I have a 1993 Chevy 3500 4x4 with a 454, i put it in 4 wheel drive high drove it a lil bit and took it out. Now it wont go into gear when i try to drive it in 2 wheel drive. Its like its stuck in neutral and if i try to put into park it makes a grinding noise. I believe it just wont disengage out of 4 wheel drive, any ideas or thoughts. thank you.

Not sure what your problem might be, but your system is vacuum controlled and prone to failure. It could be the vacuum actuator/vacuum leaks--that's the first place to look. There's also a vacuum valve on the transfer case.

This VIDEO shows a system that I think is similar to yours.

The transfer case must be stuck in neutral. It's probable that the grinding that you hear going back into park is the transmission output shaft spinning and so the park pawl ratchets against it until it slows enough to allow the pawl to engage. One of the biggest problems right now is that you probably don't have park and the truck could roll on you if the parking brake isn't set and able to hold.
