Hello - my son has a 1999 Ford Ranger 4x4 - it has a loud squeaking type noise coming from the engine. When we spray WD40 on the belt it disappears for a day or so, but comes back. The belt has been replaced recently. Any suggestions would be helpful!

I had a similar problem with my 2000 xlt. I replaced the idler pulley. NOT just the pulley itself but went to Ford and got the pulley WITH the bolt, retention washer, etc. There is some helpful videos on YouTube that let you hear the noise it makes when the idler pulley needs changed and of coarse the process of fixing it.

Could be an idler pulley, definitely, or another pulley in the system. Squeaking can also be caused by misalignment of the pulleys, so that needs to be checked as well.
