We are thinking about buying a executive program SRX 2004 with 7000 miles. Now that you have had your SRX for 8 months, how do you like it and have you had any problems? What kind of mileage do you get city and highway? Notice any drivetrain or suspension noise?
Re-writing my last request for info ( #516 ), I mistakenly put FWD instead of RWD. Does anyone have some input on their mpg for city driving for the 6 cyl RWD, SRX. Also any input on how the RWD does in the snow......thanks
I sell Caddy's. I wish I could tell you about MPG on RWD SRX's, but we've never sold one. Where do you live? If you are above the mason-dixon line, pay the extra money for AWD. You will get it back threefold when you sell/trade it. I would imagine it's not going to do great in the snow. As a dealer in Illinois, we wouldn't think of bringing in a RWD SRX.
I'm in the northeast..Phila., Pa......Will take your advice for the awd..I can't find anywhere on this site or on cadilacs site the recommendation for either premium gas or regular..You may be the man who knows..thanks
We've had our Black SRX AWD V6 since March of this year and love it! Real world driving (soccer, baseball, dance, preschool, drycleaning pickup etc.) shows about 16MPG. Longer trips for us net about 23MPG @ about 80MPH. We regularly use 87 octane and don't notice any significant difference (91 octane is recommended, but the manual says you can use 87 octane with no problems, just slightly reduced performance).
Great road car. Poor gas mileage. Averaged only 18.6 on 2300 mile trip w/2100 highway miles. Lots of blind spots when backing up or parking. Slight hum in drivetrain. Tailgate holds rainwater or washwater. When you open gate water drains onto back area wetting inner edge. Whoever designed clothes hanging hooks must have used baby clothes, our hanging clothes stayed rumpled. Lots of tire noise unless on smooth highway. Lcm
I've had my 04 SRX since Dec 03. Since then, we've encountered a lot of problems (i.e. radio buttons not working, the transmission hose leaking, etc.) - but the last two times it's been with the engine light. The first time, the dealership said it was a transmission sensor that went bad. It's been less than 2 weeks and AGAIN, the engine light is back on. According to OnStar, it's an engine problem, but they can't say for sure what it is. Did we get a lemon? Should we trade it? Is anyone else having these problems? 12K miles are on the car -would it be worth it to ditch it now while it's still under warranty? Thanks in advance for the feedback.
Unfortunately I have had my SRX since 2/16/04. It has had 4 oil leaks, the engine light came on twice with only part of cylinders running. The check stability system notice came on once. Currently in the shop (total of 56 days in less than one year) for bad vibration in front end on exceleration and the front struts make loud scrunching noise going over speed bumps, etc. I definately have a lemon. Hate this vehicle now. Have notified GM of the problems and the Better Business Bureau. I only have 8600 miles on the car.
Has anyone figured out how to dissable the autock system on a 2005 SRX so that the doors do not lock when the car is in gear? My dealer says it can't be done.. There has to be a way. Also, the glare from the nav.systems lights at night is unacceptable. HOw do you resolve without turning the system off? Is sthere a way to make the clock/thermometer easier to read?
Does the SRX have bluetooth capability (standard or optional). My wife is considering an SRX as a possibility to replace her TT and her next phone will be bluetooth since the phone that came with her Audi is a very old Moto V60 (with special Audi programming).
Just purchased an 04 SRX with Ultraview, 3rd row, Bose, Lumbar, AWD, and DVD navigation. It has the wood trim around the center "stack". How can I tell if this is the Luxury Performance Package? I bought used from a non-Cadillac dealer.
One of the perks of buying at a Cadillac dealer is getting the Certified Pre-owned warranty included. The extended warranties can cost $2500-$3500 and don't cover as much.
"The SRX name is consistent with the Cadillac product naming strategy. The first letter denotes the series. The second and the third letters stand for “reconfigurable” and “crossover.”
We are three or four days into our SRX "experience". My wife really liked the car. I preferred the MDX or XC90. That being said, I am more impressed with the SRX than I had anticipated. It drives beautifully. It has very comfortable seating. The back seat is far superior to the MDX or XC90. We have navigation and it is a little complicated to master. The memory settings for more than just seat and mirror position are a plus. The power pedals are nice as my wife is petite. The sunroof is impressive. Not a bad package. I was very disappointed with the engine on the XC90. The Acura has a great engine, but this one is pretty good. I'll keep you posted.
I go to George Washington University in Washington DC and we are doing group projects on the Cadillac SRX. We were having a hard time finding anyone who actually owned a SRX in our area. What we are trying to find out is why people decided to buy an SRX instead of any of the other luxury SUVs on the market (like those by Lexus, Acura, or Mercedes)? Also if anyone has any ideas why the Escalade is so much more popular than the SRX? If any of you SRX owners could respond to this, we would really appreciate it!!!
1. American built and 2. Read good reviews about it. Car handles and performs very well. However there are some problems. 1. Seats are very hard and uncomfotable.2. Navigation, radio, time and outside temperature are all combined in one and very user unfriendly. Lighting of the package is not satisfactory. 3. No compass. 4. Back window cannot be opened. 5. Car cannot be driven without the doors locked. In my opinion, this is very unsafe.6. Would like to have an outside combination so doors can be opened without the keys-similar to Ford products. If these problems are not resolved with the 2006 model, I will likely trade for a 2006 Ford product. If above problems are resolved for 2006, I will trade for a 2006 SRX because of excellent performance and handling.
I'll counter the previous message. The seats are very comfortable. The size is preferable to larger vehicles. The ride is tremendous. The features abound.
GM does not offer Bluetooth for the SRX. However, Motorola does offer a Bluetooth kit for the SRX. Your SRX dealer's service department should be aware of it. I was given a one page print out on its features from our local dealer.
Seems to me that a more interesting research project would be "why would you never consider an SRX (or any Cadillac)". Then again it would be a very short project----Can't compare to a Lexus in reliability, does not hold resale value compared to a Lexus, much worse mileage than a Lexus, etc., etc. After all these years of trying to compete with the Japanese products GM still hasn't figured out how to do it. That is certainly reflected in GM's decreasing market share.
The SRX has a better looking exterior than the RX.... just my opinion... if only GM could make a reliable vehicle for the long term. I have a friend who has a '99 RX300 that has 120,000 miles and it has been trouble free vehicle until recently; it needed a new transmission and was replaced. Otherwise, the RX has been very reliable and trustworthy. My friend plans to keep it for 3 or 4 more years. Would a GM product be that reliable for 120,000 miles? With only a transmission problem?, maybe, we'll see.
My friend is looking and has put a deposit on a 2006 Lexus RX400h (Hybrid) and will keep the other RX as an extra vehicle.

I've had my 2004 SRX for 11 months and over the past 4 months, the ultraview roof has developed an extremely annoying squeak above the front passenger seat. Even with the sunshade closed, I'm forced to have my radio turned up in order not to hear the noise. Happens on bumps as well as normal pavement at all speeds. Has anyone had this happen and if so, was it something your dealership was able to fix (and how)? Additionally, there is metal clanky/squeak that I started hearing that comes from directly behind the drivers seat that I've been unable to trace to any piece of metal hitting another (like a seatbelt lock hitting another, etc). Thoughts?
I have to laugh at the great standard of Japanese reliability - a whole 120k miles! We've driven two mid-nineties Bonnevilles to 225,000 miles without major engine or transmission work, never mind replacement, and our current '93 Plymouth Grand Voyager has over 281,000 miles on the original engine, original tranny, and to the best of my knowledge, original timing belt. No rebuilds on any of them (although I can't say as much for the A/C compressors...). I've never thought Asian cars held up long term, and a transmission replacement at only 120,000 miles does nothing to change my opinion. My wife wanted an XC90 (European, not Asian) so we got one, and the engine was replaced at 26,000 miles after it threw a main bearing. I have to say good things about Volvo though - we are currently working with them on a replacement deal. Although a replacement vehicle at 11 months, 31,000 miles is pretty sad. All work done by the dealer, too. We both wish we'd ponied up a few more bucks for the Caddy.
What is your build date? Search the internet on this issue on the SRX. I found a the details of a repair ticket which read:
Took of the head lining and the glass......unglued the S moldings on all corners....worked on glass module....opened something with tick line....reinstalled all parts....reinstalled molding with 2-way tape, install rubber and glass of roof.
Another read:
I got my SRX back yesterday and they fixed the noise. The tech stated that there was not fix for it in the system but they took off the headliner and drove it around until they could find out where is was coming from. Here is what they did "Removed headliner and found sunrood module tweaked. Loosen and retorque screws in sunroof assembly".

Per the service manager, GM tech is getting a lot of these calls. First fix was installing foam (I don't know where) - didn't work. Second was dry teflon lubricant - didn't work. Third was a silicon (I think) spray lube that seems to have done the trick. TIME WILL TELL!!!
'04 RX330 with 22,000 mi. Unaceptable Transmission (not only ours), Engine is tinny sounding and underpowered. Smells a hill, and has to downshift. Amenities are wonderful! Handles and rides great. Am thinking that now is the time to unload it for a new SRX before the new Lexus Hybrid RX400h totally devalues the not so great RX330. Am thinking that $12,000 to $15,000 plus our fully loaded Rx330 should make the trade for an almost $60,000 Sticker SRX!! Any Comments or Suggestions?? - Jetstream - Eugene, Or.
We chose the SRX over the RX. I think that the interior of the RX is great. The SRX excels in ride and handling. I think it's better than the RX. The feeling of spaciousness in the SRX is impressive. If you need a third seat, the SRX is the only choice. I would recommend the Ultraview sunroof and navigation system. I would suggest the V6 over the V8. You should be able to get the SRX at invoice - consider the new lease programs, they seem very competitive. Unfortunately, the reality of any car purchase is that the depreciation is the biggest the first year and you will get hit two years in a row.
stlgasman -- i am as well a new owner of the vehicle...v6 AWD fully stocked for the exception of the ultra view plus (i have the regular ultra view)...picked it up wed 5/11th and just came off my first weekend with it...am mindful not to push the limits this early on due to "break-in" period...AM VERY PLEASED...got it for the wife and she is very confident with this car...we have 3 kids and we also considered MDX...we went with the SRX cause of the availability of AWD in the caddy...great acceleration (v6 mind you), great handling, great luxury features, great ride...
not to be overly critical, the mrs has mentioned a small gripe...power seats don't allow for you to raise...the base raises but not the seat....thusly, the lumbar support is lowered when you raise the base of the seat...it's minor i know but should be mentioned...also, would have preferred the rear entertainment screen above as opposed to being connected to the lower console...the kids in the 3rd row seats would have an unabated view if it was overhead...as it is now, the screen is low and you're having to move your head subject to those in front of you...don't like that there's not a lock on the gas cap...don't like that the locks auto un-lock when the car is shifted to park (could be dangerous in a sketchy neighborhood)...would like to have had an audible alert on the alarm system...maybe the horn beep when activated? what's with the velvet covered ashtray anyway? WHATS WITH THE VISIBLE RUST ON THE WHEEL DISCS?
all this minor relative to a well put together car...just ranting about the little stuff -- in no way am i bashing the SRX...just keeping it real.
long and short...it may suprise you that money was a factor in choosing the srx over the bmw and/or mercedes...a fully loaded srx was MUCH cheaper than the fully loaded germans...mindful of money, i actually looked at the chrysler pacifica which was way cheaper and very comparable in terms of ride, luxury, and style...went with the srx cause the 2nd row in the pacifica only seated 2...wouldn't be functional for a family of 5 (if we had luggage to haul)
to answer your second question, the escalade has gained notoriety because a lot of the urban heroes are driving them (rappers and professional athletes) -- i firmly believe that this phenomena has a lot to do with the popularity...the escalades have been popularized in music videos and i'm sure has had a lot to do with the popularity imo.

Has anyone put aftermarket wheels and tires on their SRX that were larger than the originals? I had the dealer install 20 inch. They recalibrated the tire pressure monitors and my speedometer and odomoter read correctly. This is an '05 without navigation and Ultraview Plus, but with XM, AWD, V8, third seat, and trailer towing package, but no hitch (I wanted the bigger brakes, radiator, and transmission cooler). Gas mileage is no great shakes, but I only have 500 miles. Theway the power comes on so smoothly, the crisp handling, and short stops make it worthwhile. I have driven Corvettes(ten years), turbo cars, and a 1966 427 Chevy. It was time to grow up, now that I have a grandchild. LOL. One other point. My compass is in my mirror, not on the info panel.
My wife and I examined and sat in an SRX at a dealership. We were dismayed at the width of the door seals which combined with the extra height of the vehicle and its effect on entry and exit. Neither of us could get in or out of the minivan without rubbing our pants leg/dress against the outside lip of the frame. The results is a dirty streak on our clothes. Thank goodness we were not on a long dusty trip - or in the rain. The salesperson sheepishly admitted this was a problem with the SRX but claimed that if we also purchased custom running boards, the problem would be solved. However, he could not show us any pictures of SRXs so equipped or even tell us the extra cost for purchase and installation. Needless to say, I am not impressed. Do the running boards solve the problem. How do they look? How much extra must be added to a vehicle with a $52k MSRP tag already(SC1 package)

awd= all wheel drive.
SRX is rear wheel drive based or awd
Thanks

Please note that the base-std is RWD.
and the MPG is from 16-22 as advertised,
my estimation is about 19 for mixed driving conditions (half local, half highway).

Besides, I'm one of those drivers who try to avoid using brakes as much as I can
cheers.
Will it be avaiable on the 2006's?
Thanks.

And if so, did you do it yourself?
I can use an FM transmitter, but would rather do a cleaner sounding line-in connection...
