XC60 3.2/T6

Good afternoon everybody,

Am just starting on this forum. We are considering purchasing a used XC60 in the near term. I find the price to work really well for us for a 2010/2011 model.

Now, a friend of mine told me he heard stories about the 3.2 engine being not very reliable but neither him or I could find any articles to back this up. Before making the big jump (first Volvo, yaye!), I wanted to run it by you guys and see what you thought of it... The T6 would be an alternative but I really don't "need" it. I looked up the forum but didn't find exactly that question.

Also, is there any major known issues coming up around 70/80k miles? I see most used vehicles with that mileage (South Florida).

Thanks all!!

Remy

Nobody has experience with the 3.2 vs T6? Any piece of advice?

I'd rate it as a risky purchase. That's a generalization of course but the 3.2 has had known oil consumption issues and the early versions seem to have lots of issues (first year 2008 I believe). As they get newer, they seem to get better. I don't think I'd consider buying it without a pre-purchase inspection, a review of the car's history if available, a CARFAX and most definitely a cylinder leakdown test.

That's great. That really helps Mr_shiftright. I was definitely planning on doing pre-purchase inspection at a local garage. I would hope if I buy from Volvo they'd do it in their own inspection but those shouldn't be a given... CARFAX for sure. I'm looking at 2010 or 2011 right now. Appreciate the feedback!
