    http://www-odi.nhtsa.dot.gov/cars/problems/recalls/results.cfm

    "Make : HONDA Model : ODYSSEY Year : 2003
    NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID Number : 04V176000 Recall Date : APR 13, 2004
    Component: POWER TRAIN:AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION
Potential Number Of Units Affected : 600000
    Summary:
ON SOME MINI VANS AND SPORT UTILITY VEHICLES, CERTAIN OPERATING CONDITIONS CAN RESULT IN HEAT BUILD-UP BETWEEN THE COUNTERSHAFT AND SECONDARY SHAFT SECOND GEARS IN THE AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION, EVENTUALLY LEADING TO GEAR TOOTH CHIPPING OR GEAR BREAKAGE.
    Consequence:
GEAR FAILURE COULD RESULT IN TRANSMISSION LOCKUP, WHICH COULD RESULT IN A CRASH.
    Remedy:
ON VEHICLES WITH 15,000 MILES OR LESS, THE DEALER WILL UPDATE THE TRANSMISSION WITH A SIMPLE REVISION TO THE OIL COOLER RETURN LINE TO INCREASE LUBRICATION TO THE SECOND GEAR. ON VEHICLES WITH MORE THAN 15,000 MILES, THE DEALER WILL INSPECT THE TRANSMISSION TO IDENTIFY GEARS THAT HAVE ALREADY EXPERIENCED DISCOLORATION DUE TO OVERHEATING. IF DISCOLORATION EXISTS, THE TRANSMISSION WILL BE REPLACED IF DISCOLORATION IS NOT PRESENT, THE DEALER WILL PERFORM THE REVISION TO THE OIL COOLER RETURN LINE. OWNER NOTIFICATION BEGAN ON MAY 12, 2004. OWNERS SHOULD CONTACT HONDA AT 1-800-999-1009 OR ACURA AT 1-800-382-2238."

And just a few days ago, Honda announced another recall. This one is for 2000-2004 Acura CL and TL cars.

well replaced the windshield due to two rock chips, the first was patched and one week later another friggin rock chip right next to it (just above the passenger wiper blade)

well its up there as one of the difficult ones to change because the put a TON of glue on the bottom and the guy had problems getting the glue cut off so the windshield would come out. the trim was pretty straight forward but it took longer then normal and its pretty big ... install was easy .. just the removal was a pain... got the PPG glass replacement which has besides the dots over the center area, a tint band all across the top (a bonus) - easier on the eyes from the sun

does anyone know what the part number of the new amp is? did they release a new amp. I got the new head unit (radio) swapped about 4 months ago but was listening to books on tape and the static/crackle is back !!!

there was talk of an improved amp being released ... anyone get their amp replaced (this is on the optional higher end stereo DVD system)

Is anyone out there having an issue with their Pacifica stalling during a slow turn? We have had our Pac for only two months and it tends to stall during only right hand turns. It was recalled for some sort of stall issue, but it has not been resolved afetr numerous trips to the dealer. They "cannot fix what they cannto reproduce". I asked that they keep the car and give me a rental per the Pacifica buying agreement, but thye refuse. The car stalled recently during a 20mph right hand turn off a bridge; trying to steer a car stalled is not possible, I ended up almost kissing the median. Can somebosy help me the dealership has been awful. Thanks for the help.

Bobbie, I called the Service Line at Chrysler headquarters before the software recall came out and Chrysler was going to equip my car with a device that kept track of my driving maneuvers, so they could see what I was doing before the stalls occurred. They called the dealer to arrange the install. The dealer changed an EGR valve instead and I've been stall free since (March). My stalling problem wasn't a software problem like some of the others. I think if you're unhappy with your dealer, you should go straight to the top and call Chrysler headquarters. It got the Service Manager's attention. I was given a four-wheel Jeep Liberty to drive, since I was at a Jeep dealer.

I just got my Pac out of the body shop, and there is apparently one piece of equipment in the engine compartment that is missing.

Under the hood, on the left front side, just to the right of the horn is a place for (something). It connects to a vacuum hose and a 2-wire electrical connection.

I looked at a 2005 Touring, and saw the washer fluid pump in that location, but it doesn't *exactly* match the layout of my '04.

Can someone take a quick peek under their hood and tell me what the heck goes in that spot? It's something auxillary (like probably the washer fluid pump or something), but it annoys me to not be able to find out, and the local Chrysler parts guy wasn't able to figure it out "for sure", either.

    Thanks!

Tfuder: I don't know what it is, but it is in my 2004. My guess is that it has something to do with California emmisions regulations. If you are not in CA, you probably don't have it.
  • tfudertfuder Member Posts: 36
Working with the local Dodge/Chrysler place, we think we've narrowed it down to the fuel fume purge valve. Will know for sure early next week, as we ordered the part, and will see if it fits.

Thanks, b25nut, and this would be, technically, part of the emissions, but since the connectors *were* plugged into something, I think I'm supposed to have it.

I have an '04 Pacifica and so far, so good. I do, however, have one annoyance to report and ask for help. Shortly after I bought the vehicle I noticed that it did not sit level. As a matter of fact, the ground clearance on the passenger wheel well is 3/4 of an inch lower than that on the driver's side. Furthermore, at higher speeds (about 70 mph)I hear wind noise coming from the driver's side wheel well. My guess is that the two are related and I'm concerned about the long term effects of the car sitting unevenly.

I had to stop by the dealership on an unrelated matter and the service manager thought it nothing more than "weird". He even went out and measured another car on the lot and found it was almost about 1/2 inch from one side to the other.

The car still drives beautifully, but this certainly can't be right. Anyone else had this problem or have any thoughts toward a solution?
  • aviateaviate Member Posts: 31
Ours is a little low on the driver's side. I spoke with Gary at our local dealer and did the same thing. What we found was that each car was a little off level either on the left or right. Our conclusion was that at rest, the leveling system on the rear must "deflate" at an uneven rate when the car is off. I have not noticed any other strange things relating to this. Just one of those things I guess.

Anyone know of any updates to fix the CD crackle over the tweaters when playing CD with higher output ? I had the radio unit changed out and it fixed most of the static when playing music CDS. but now I listen to Books on CD and its horrendous !!! anyone still have this problem or solve it other then replaceing the radio unit? There was talk of a new amp with filtering on the input to solve the over driving of the signal causing the static/crackle sound issue.

We have a '04 Pac (12k + and it still sweet) and ours is perfect (so far) except for minor things that the dealership has taken care of every single time. Anyway, my husband is kind of a techie so he bought this carchip device that you can plug into the car which logs trips details, engine sensor parameters, things that might be useful for the dealership to look at the next time you bring in your Pac for a problem they "could not" reproduce. You may want to check http://www.davisnet.com/drive/products/carchip_products.asp. It's only an option. My husband sometimes checks the logs to see how I usually drive the car.

I have owned the car for 21 days now and it has drained the battery and required a jump start on 3 different occasions. Each time the car has set for a day or more without being started or driven. The first two times I jump started it and continued on, taking it to the dealership for check out afterwards. After check out the dealer found nothing wrong. This time I refused to jump start it and let the dealer tow it in. They still can find nothing wrong.

I have read a couple of posts both here and elsewhere that indicate that others have had this problem. However, I don't see any information regarding the resolution of the issue. Has anyone with this problem had it properly diagnosed and repaired? If so, what was the cause?

We are in the market for a new vehicle and have come across the Pacifica. When we went to install our booster seat in the rear prior to a test drive, I noticed that the seat belt does not "ratchet" back when you pull the belt all the way out. Our son's booster seat (Britax Super Elite) requires the belt to be pulled out completely and then it ratchets back and tightens the seat in. My other concern is in a "normal" booster seat, I like to pull the seat belt out all the way as described above and let it release back. This way I know he can't lean forward and then not have the belt positioned correctly on his body when he leans back against the seat. I have seen him do this before where the belt is loose over his arm and not across his shoulder and chest. Lastly, on a car seat w/out latch, how do you tighten a car seat down if the belt does not ratchet back. I remember many times sitting w/all our weight on the car seat and pulling the belt to get the seat to tighten down. I don't want to spend money on new car seats. I have already spent over 1K for top of the line seats. My son's safety is number one concern. Any info would greatly be appreciated.

I just recently purchased my Pacifica and had the same concerns that you do. We have our youngest son in a Britax Roundabout and the older one in a Starriser Comfy Booster Seat. Even though the Roundabout has fasteners built into the car seat, I wasn't satisfied with the fit. We purchased something called Mighty Tite Seat Belt Tightener at Babies 'R Us and it is working wonderfully. You attach it to the seat belt on the side opposite of the belt latch. My older son is 5 1/2 and knows that he must sit back and up straight in his booster seat or the car stops. I can tell you that I feel very confident regarding my children's safety in this vehicle. Good luck in your search.

Has anyone else experienced an odor problem with their seatbelts. I just purchased a 2005 AWD Pacifica and the seatbelts smell awful. The dealer has mentioned a recall. I was just wondering if anyone else had experienced this?
  • ciodudeciodude Member Posts: 6
I just completed a round trip, southern NJ to upstate NY in my 2004 AWD and was easily getting 21-22 MPG (using 87 gas) and that was with the A/C on.

Around town looks like 17-18 MPG.
  • ciodudeciodude Member Posts: 6
I just bought a demo 2004 (about 5,700 miles on it) and am loving it so far! Gas mileage is higher then I expected and so far none of the other issues other people have expressed here.

But.. I just noticed rust in some aspect of the inner wheels. I have it headed in for service to remove a bumber mark and the service guy said all were like that. Anyone else have this issue?
  • krisgilkrisgil Member Posts: 7
    Ciodude-

We too have rust in the inner wheels. I noticed it prior to purchase. (ours was an executive car)
We were told that they are all like that. It doesn't really look good though.
I haven't addressed the issue yet I've been taking care of the other problems! Our memory seats do not operate properly even after changing out the memory unit, and we have a thumping noise when we stop or turn. In order to fix that, they have to replace a part which requires taking out the transmission!

This is probably the only problem mine has not yet experienced but I noticed on another web site a contributor said to contact the dealer and tell them to view TSB# 23-026-04. The smell is from the foam insulation and all belts, foam and other soft pieces need to be removed and replaced. Sounds like a lot of work! Good luck...
  • pompiliuspompilius Member Posts: 54
the rust is on the brake rotors, right?

Have you ever looked at many other cars' wheels? A lot of cars of various makes have this.
  • bjbird2bjbird2 Member Posts: 647
Is the rust only on the chrome wheels? Doe's anyone with the base model have rust on their wheels?
  • onlytomonlytom Member Posts: 1
I am currently leasing a 2004 Pacifica AWD and am getting 12-14 mpg...no better even on the highway. Dealer found no problems. Also the bumper was "hit" and split....no paint came off and there wasn't a scratch but the thing split so it wasn't much of a collision....traded in my Jeep GC and have regretted it since. Has anyone had problems like these?? Biggest disappointment is the gas mileage.....my Jeep was a V8 and did better.
  • monark49monark49 Member Posts: 58
How did you know you were getting 12-14 mpg? Try zeroing the computer and driving a couple of hours only at highway speed. Then see what it reads. Mine is always above 23.
  • user777user777 Member Posts: 3,341
instantaneous estimates by computer maybe misleading. i'd suggest you fill it and note the mileage. drive it for a significant number of miles (maybe to 1/4 tank or so). fill it again, and divide miles travelled between fillups by gallons pumped.

this is a more traditional way to estimate MPG. do this a few times to determine the accuracy of the computer estimate. that estimate accuracy will probably change depending on the type of driving city vs. highway.

Hi all...hope someone can help me here.

The headlamp on the passenger side of my Pac went out a couple of weeks ago. I purchased a replacement lamp, and am trying to fix it.

The owner's manual gives the instruction to remove the screws holding the light assembly in place, and to slide the headlight assembly out. Darned if we can get the thing out.

The screws come out okay, which loosens the assembly, but it refuses to slide forward so we can access the bulbs.

Has anyone attempted/completed this maintenance item yet? Can you tell me if there's a trick to getting it out? I hate to have to pay the dealer to do something I should be able to do on my own.

    Thanks!!
  • cluelesspacluelesspa Member Posts: 648
hey connie, you have to pull the light out. its in there tight just work it out little by little by pushing on the rear of the light. it has tabs that hold it in place. I dont think you want to wiggle it back and forth... might break the tabs. but push it straight out. The fog lights are so much easier to replace :)

which bulb went out the high or the low beam? also make sure you do NOT touch the new bulb or it will burn out quickly. use a clean tissue to hold the base and try not to touch the bulb even with the tissue if possible
  • ms_mayorms_mayor Member Posts: 113
Thanks for the reply. I called my 5-star yesterday morning to speak to a service guy and find out if there were any 'tricks' to getting it out. Service guy they patched me to was no help at all.

Anyway, it was scheduled for a service this morning so I spoke to the service writer who told me to just bring the bulb in that I'd bought and they'd install it for $10 or $15 bucks. I hadn't yet seen your reply, clueless, or I'd probably have given it another shot.

If I had, though, I'd have been disappointed yet again. It seems that the headlamp replacement bulb that I bought was the wrong one (strange, since I bought the type that the owner's manual told me to)...service guy said I'd gotten the high beam lamp and not the regular headlight. He showed me the correct bulb. Since it was already there, I went OK'd the part to get it fixed. I was pleasantly surprised when the service writer told me they wouldn't charge me for the bulb, and would keep the fee for fixing it at the $15 he'd told me before (the bulb was $25).

Anyway...to get back to your explanation. Is it really ok to just push it a little from behind? It seems difficult to even get your hand behind there. As for the tabs, I did see a couple of metal tabs or clips on the outer edge of the assembly (looked like they held the clear plastic covering)...are there other tabs further inside that I'm to be concerned with?

Thanks so much for your help. The thought of having to get lamps replaced by the mechanic is just ridiculous to me, so I want to make sure I get this one down.

Mileage - have 17,000+ miles on my Pacifica; consistently getting 20 - 21 mpg. Not a slow driver; I push it on the interstate. I'm probably 75% highway. 12-14 sounds mighty low to me and I'd suspect that your dealer hasn't found the answer unless you are 100% city driving with a congested commute being the vast majority of your mileage.

This is a common problem I guess.......
Ours goes dim sometimes and other times
     goes completely out......... This among
all the other problems that people are having..
This Pacifica was in the Dealers SHOP for 16
straight days because they couldn`t figure
out why the battery went dead and wouldn`t
start the car........... Finnally they changed
the dashboard cluster guages.... Car is going
into the SHOP tomorrow 8-23-04 for LED prob.
noise-passenger side front, sounds like a
     broken shock-absorber or something, right-
brake light is out, car pulls to left going
down the highway-will change lanes in less
than 1/4 mile.......... It`s done this since
the first trip we took... Guess what, the DEALER
says they can`t make it do this... Also the
sagging rubber over the doors, the noise shift-
ing gears, and the locks don`t lock and unlock
the way they should. This trip to the DEALER
will make it 5 times for a total of `23` DAYS
and COUNTING, which in the state of Iowa is
     within the LEMON - LAWS.........
We buoght this car last October... We have
16,600 miles on it... This is My 7th or 8th NEW Car..
I`m 62 years young, and have never had so MANY problems
with a car as this PACIFICA.................

are you related to a certain Jeffew who once had an incredible lemon Dodge Intrepid who had every single problem that was ever reported by Intrepid owners and failed to start and lived on the dealer's lot?

If you qualify under the Lemon Law why do you still have this car?

Guess What the Service Manager is `Supposed`
to call tomorrow 8-24-04 to Set up a Meeting
     with the District Rep.
When this metting happens, the Rep. will get
     an EAR-FULL about the LEMOM-LAWS.........
Now let My ask You......... Doesn`t your state
     have LEMOM-LAWS.???

I`ll be back with Info. as this progresses...

Before you go to the District Rep meeting with both barrels loaded, keep one thing in mind., Manufacturer reps not only know the Lemon Laws better than you do (it's their job to know), they also know how to get around them.

Best advice is not to yell and scream, but to put it in their hands: "What can you do to keep me a satisfied customer?" If not this Pacifica, DC wants you in one that makes you happy, so that you buy their products again later.

I bought the Jabra Freespeak kit today because the girl I talked to at Nextel said it would work with the uconnect. Well unless I'm missing a step (quite possible) it isn't working.
The store where I bought it did say the next generation of Nextel phones will probably have Bluetooth, but until then I really wanted this to work.
Any idea of adapters out there that do work?
    I have an i730

  • kozikowskikozikowski Member Posts: 19
The i730 does not support Bluetooth (for what it's worth, none of the Nextel phones do). I am not sure how the Jabra Freespeak kit works, but unless the PHONE supports Bluetooth you probably are not going to get it to work with the UConnect. If you are committed to Nextel, then you probably have a wait of at least six months before they have a phone with this capability.

Just wanted to let you know that the 2005 FWD Version no longer includes (and the dealer will not install) automatic headlights. I have the T package which includes everything but the kitchen sink, but I will have to remember to turnoff the headlights or I will come back to a dead battery.

This seems like a trivial item to add to an already decked out car. My last cars, Volvo 740, Nissan Maxima, Jeep Cherokee, Chevy minivan, ALL HAVE HAD THIS FEATURE. I cannot believe they would cheapen out on this.

I've already left the lights on once for 4 hours in the garage. The garage door opener light was on, the kids were being loud, so I didn't hear the little ding ding trying to tell me my lights were on. Only several hours later when I went to get something out of the car did I see them on.

The dealership said they are only available on the 2005 AWD package if you purchase xenon head lamps. Otherwise you are SOL. They will not install them on. They are currently checking to see if they know of a service who can add for a price.

So, I'm now left with; paying someone from an outside company to install some, or buying myself a new set of jumper cables and looking for a good samariton who won't "mug me" if leave them on by accident some dark evening in what will mostlikely be in a dark parking lot.

    WAKE UP CHRYSLER!!!!!!!!!!!

WHAT A STUPID, STUPID, STUPID SAFETY ITEM TO LEAVE OFF!!!!!!!!!!
  • monark49monark49 Member Posts: 58
Your last sentence is exactly right! It is a Stupid safety item. They are on our 2004 and were on our last 300m and I have never used them once on either car. I guess i'm just accustomed to turning off the switch or maybe I just would'nt trust it anyway.
  • pompiliuspompilius Member Posts: 54
at least they should have designed the auto-off. I am peeved that my 2002 Acura TL-S doesn't have auto lights, but at least they turn themselves off when the car is not running.

I can't understand the logic behind Chrysler's packaging for 2005 Pacifica - some options are only available if one chooses AWD, like auto-dimming rearview mirror, memory for seats/pedals/mirrors... Where I live, in South Florida, most dealers stock up on FWD Pacificas, so I could not get these options that I really like.
  • cluelesspacluelesspa Member Posts: 648
unless you can reply back on the Java device (or the phone) with the connect code of 0000, you wont get the Java Freespeak to bond with the UConnect and work.

When you Pair the phone, UCONNECT ask for confirmation code to pair the phone. the phone must prompt you for the code that you reply back.

We just purchased a Pacifica and have noticed poor FM reception. I searched the forum and found several people that are having the same problem with FM reception as we are. Has anyone resolved it?
  • magiaonemagiaone Member Posts: 1
    Hello All,

I see that there are plenty of happy and unhappy people that have Pacificas.

Well I have some info that may prove helpfull for some:

The Audio System: Poor quality from both the permium and reg system is covered by a TSB that either replaces the head unit and/ or the amp too. It is more noticable on copied CDs.

Fuel Gauge Erratic: There is a reflash for the Fuel sender unit avaiable on a TSB.

TPM: TSB to Reflash the module

Clunk on an incline: A design issue, there is a spec that DCX has for disengagment on an incline, the Pac isnt there.

Leads left/ right: A TSB is there to adjust camber.

I have had 2 pacificas in the past 13 months, I put 30K on one AWD in 10 months and I 7K on a FWD since July. The car is great, yes it has issues like all cars, thats no excuse, just a fact.My kids love the DVD and it is very comftable. Both cars are loaded with no issues.

The best advice I can give any of you is when you go to the dealer with an issue, ask if there is a TSB out for that issue, more than likely there is, ie the audio crackle, TPM issues and so on. They have to fix it if there is a TSB out there. TSB' s are there because there are known issues and these cut down on root cause time at the dealer.

Just an FYI, ms_mayor: The clip that is hard to push the headlight module out from is on the *bottom* of the module, attached to the frame insert (I had to have a new one for one of my headlights, and it just pops in).

I'm glad you were able to get just the lamp replaced - I haven't had to do that yet, and have been worried I'd have to replace the whole module!

I am looking at a Pacifica (to buy) and read all the problems here and offer this advice.
We have had 3 Chrysler products in the last 10 years.
One Minivan lemon-lawed free replacement after
    3 transmissions in 34,000 miles.
    second (1996) w/197,000 miles.
    third (2003) ok.

You should not buy one of these behemoth cars from Chrysler (minivan, pacifica, durango, etc.) unless you
    1) get the extended 100,000 7 year b-b warranty.
(make it condition of sale and dont pay more than
700-900 for it. Just build it into price because it is a must have.)
    2) have a third car (if married), 2nd if single
for all the TSBs and repairs you will need.

But if you have buy the 100,000 warranty and have another get-around car, the vehicles have proved great value to us, considering the prices you can get them at at end of month or end of year, sometimes 10,000 or more off sticker. that makes up for a lot.

if you get the warranty, live near the dealer (one with a good repair record or best of all, the regional assigned repair shop) and just get used to running the car in and out for warranty fixes, you will get great practicality, performance, and value (price).

if you're used to an acura or honda or toyota
and must have reliability every day, think twice.
  • rsharprsharp Member Posts: 103
So basically you are saying that if you want a car that runs everyday and is reliable don't buy a Chrysler. That is not much of a ringing endorsement. If you have to pay the cost and taxes etc. of having a back-up car to drive while the Chrysler is in the shop then why not just get ONE reliable car?
  • pompiliuspompilius Member Posts: 54
    >>>>if you're used to an acura or honda or toyota
and must have reliability every day, think twice.<<<

Yeah, my 2002 Acura TL-S is on its 4th transmission at 45K miles (the first one blew at 6,100 miles when entering a busy highway). When the tranny #3 had to be replaced, by car was in the shop for 3 weeks.
  • tfudertfuder Member Posts: 36
I would have to disagree. My last four cars have all been Dodge/Chryslers:
       - 1988 Chrysler Lebaron Convertible
       - 1994 Dodge Ram 1500 Pickup
       - 1997 Dodge Intrepid Sedan
       - 2004 Chrysler Pacifica SUV

And have had very few problems, on average. I have 150K+ miles on the truck, 160K+ miles on the convertible, and 120K+ miles on the Intrepid. I have experienced no more problems on them than my prior vehicles:
       - 1994 Ford Ranger
       - 1991 Chevy Cavalier
       - 1986 Buick Regal
       - 1984 Chevy Chevette
       - 1966 Chevy C10 Pickup

Of all of the cars & trucks I've owned, the Dodge pickup and Intrepid have been the most reliable (and have the most mileage, too).

I almost bought a Honda Pilot instead of the Pacifica, but got a better deal on the Pac (plus the safety rating).
