My lease is up..and just recently rec'd a call

from Rick Case (Plantation, I believe;) that's

where i got my last TL (2002 s-type.) While i did

not engage in negotiations, the salesman's offer

    was as follows:
    (no navi)

    42 months

    15k mi/yr

    $1100 out of pocket

    $477/month (tax included)

i am not the "maven" others on this board are, but I hope that helps. My experiences have not

found Delray Acura to be competitive. I am cur-

rently "committed" to a deal for an "05" w/a

    broker...long story.

    GOOD LUCK!!!

Hey va_buyer1, I'm looking in NoVa also...did $31,500 include the destination fee and the mentioned accessories? I'm getting 998.55 Va Tax...trying to find out what tags/license will be...any other hidden fees? Sounds like a good price, great job!
  • va_buyer1va_buyer1 Member Posts: 2
$31,500 includes dest, add $95 processing, another $127 for the accessories (I received 50% off list), and the 1,000 for VA taxes. This was roughly $2K less than Pohanka's best price (although for a car yet to arrive on their lot), so I took it without much debate. I think I was a bit more than $32,800 out the door (rounding the figures)....good luck!

Hello everyone!! I am currently ready to purchase a new car, My eyes have been fixated on the new TL since I saw the 2004 version, I am on my way to saving a down payment of 13,000 to get the TL with Navi and sorts of little options. What price should I expect living in NYC? Will it end up being $34,000? more? some advice please!
  • robtflrobtfl Member Posts: 36
Thanks for the reply. The lease you were quoted seems a bit high for 42 mos. and out of pocket money and no Navi. I would think you can do at least that for 36 mos. I hear Palm Beach Acura is decent and they give you extras for no added cost like tires. Check them out. Thanks for your comments.

I would email all the local internet managers and work them over for the best deal. Then go in a buy when you are satisfied.

Just bought a TL Without navi and all season mats for $31,208. Does this seem like a pretty good deal?

THANKS VERY MUCH for your feedback...I suppose

    they "see me coming.."

Just bought a 2004 TL (not titled) with 176 miles. Paid 30500(including destination) and 1500 on the 7yr 100k extended warranty...Yikes..I think I paid too much. but like the car
  • wisngamecockwisngamecock Member Posts: 52
You paid close to invoice...you like the car...don't worry about it! Enjoy your new TL! Also keep in mind pricing is regional.
  • keyserkeyser Member Posts: 31
Did this model have navigation? If you think you did bad, why'd you make the deal?
  • aaarghaaargh Member Posts: 230
$30,500 for an '04 is a pretty good price. It's near to the lowest I've seen for an '04. I'm assuming it's a non-navi. If it is a navi, that's a fantastic deal.

As for the warranty, that's high. I've seen it (on this forum) for closer to $1,100.

In the end, if you paid too much, it's only a few hundred dollars. You have a great car so don't worry, be happy.
  • guitarmanguitarman Member Posts: 7
Thanks for the input. I wasnt sure how to price a "new" 2004. I had a good feel for a "used" 2004TL. It didnt have navigation. I love the car although I am a little worried having read some discussion lists on the problems with the leather seats and the rattling over 50 mph. This car is not showing any signs and I have been an acura owner since 1986 so I trust these cars.
  • guitarmanguitarman Member Posts: 7
I didnt necessarily think it was a bad deal. Just wasnt sure how close the decision was to buying a new 2005TL. There basically arent many "New"2004's left. It doesnt have navigation.
  • mikeg2mikeg2 Member Posts: 13
This site has been terrific for tech info and prices. After my 2nd test ride I'd like to buy the above car in silver. Is $1000 over cost reasonable for the Maryland dealers?Has anyone had good luck with acura using paid buying services? Is this a hard combo to find and is it worth paying more for the above car?
  • clcfsu96clcfsu96 Member Posts: 1
Does anyone know about S. Florida dealers, pricing, and markups? I am shopping for the 2005 TL and would like any info you might have.

    Thanks.

I leased an 03 TL TYPE S from rick case in plantation in june 2002. i got 36 months and 45000 miles. for $500 out of pocket my monthly is $389.00, they will NOT come close on the 05. Also had some service issues, RICK CASE SUCKS!!!!

Also have same impression with RICK CASE HONDA on my wifes ODYSSEY. Unless the price is super stay away from RICK CASE...I want the 05 with NAV but so far all the dealers are very high, for that kind of money i can get a GS 300 LEXUS!!!!

My first "luxury" car buying experience. In Arizona, I paid 3% over invoice (internet pricing) for 05 TL Auto with Navi 2.9% financing on Dec. 30 - I didn't get the car until Jan 4. I left the dealer before finishing paperwork on Dec. 30, hoping to pick up the car and finish paperwork on Dec. 31. Car wasn't ready - I didn't want to drive 45 min. but salespeep offered to throw in burl wood knob - so he could get his year end volume bonus. I agreed. On Jan. 3, I was supposed to pick up car with lo jack installed, wasn't ready, picked up on Jan. 4, salesperson said it was ready to go. Went up, picked up car only to find out lo jack had not been installed. I've had to arrange lo jack installation on my own. I guess in Scottsdale, if you get a good deal on price, good customer service is not included. Very disappointing sales staff.

This should make you feel better: In June 2001, I

leased from Rick Case a 2002 TL Type-S, out of

pocket was $1200, monthly pmt has been $465 (tax

in); 52,500 mileage allowance (15k/yr) - -NO NAVI

I have enjoyed the car (white diamond pearl/beige

    interior w/wood kit)

    Current Lease is up.....

I am looking at Tls now...I have been speaking

w/Palm Beach Acura..have you contacted them yet?

When I have numbers, I will post..robtfl from the board

has recom Palm Beach Acura - that he had heard favorable

    things...I just walked away from a "just-about-to-sign"

    deal w/a broker, yesterday.

Glad you had a good experience! Look for my blue/gray! I liked the dealership also and they seem to be the only one in SoCal that was willing to deal.
  • rob_lopezrob_lopez Member Posts: 4
I just recently got quoted $31,250 plut title fees for a 2005 TL. I am in TN and was wondering if this price is good, great, fair, etc.

Also, did anyone look at BMW,Audi,Saab,Volvo prior to buying their TL? What sold you on the TL?
  • mikeg2mikeg2 Member Posts: 13
Has anybody had luck using a buying service with a TL purchase or can you do as well with bargaining with the dealers directly? In my area there are probably 8 dealers within 50 miles so shopping in person would take forever.
  • wisngamecockwisngamecock Member Posts: 52
Mikeg, with so many dealers in your area you are in a perfect position to try using the internet to get quotes. Either via the Edmunds site, you can request an internet quote, or go direct to their web sites. If you need web addresses just go to Acura.com and do a dealer search in your zip code. You should hear back from most. With any luck you'll get a couple who are willing to deal. I went through this process last month and it worked great for me. You'll still end up negotiating on the phone or in person to get to an agreed upon price. But, entering the process via the web appears to cut through some of the usual crap you encounter with sales sales process. Good luck!
  • plastixplastix Member Posts: 10
I'd agree with that statement. Even though there are 8 local dealers, mikeg, all your "shopping" can be done via phone or email over about 2 days. No need to drive around at all until you finally go pick up your new car. Just check out the Acura website to see who's the internet or fleet manager for each dealership. Online, you may even be able to check out what's in-stock (in terms of colors, options, etc). Then just email or phone away. If they don't respond within 24 hours, they're not going to at all. If there's a particular dealer you'd like to deal with (because of a good test-drive experience, convenient location, or if they have a particular color or option package in stock), contact them last as you'll already have quotes from other places. Ask them to beat (or meet) that lowest quote. I tried the AAA buying service that shops local dealers for members, and the prices they obtained were FAR OVER what I got, myself.
  • mikeg2mikeg2 Member Posts: 13
Thanks for the advice.I'll try a few calls. My biggest concern is that dealers would give me come ons over the phone to get me in, similar to the low cost newspaper ads.I just want to avoid the extended bargaining when I arrive."Oh I can't give you that car in silver because they are hard to find."
  • kkftzkkftz Member Posts: 15
Wanted to share my experience.... I was given advise by this board, and did most of my negotiating over the internet. I contacted about 10 dealers in the Chicago/Milwaukee area, an was able to land a '05 Manual TL w/Navi just over invoice (winter mats, wheel locks & truck mat thrown in). I had spoilers put on (front, side & rear)...net, calculated that I paid $250 - $400 over invoice in total (had to estimate the EXACT invoice cost of spoilers).

That said, some games were being played... most did not give me there best price via the internet.... they would give a very good price, but asked me to call them. When I called them they got much more aggressive w/pricing (reluctant to put in print). In addition, you have to be a bit careful, as some dealers will play games.... One gave me a great price, and stated that he had exactly what I wanted in inventory, and asked me to stop by the next day. Later that day I talked to another dealer who stated that he was looking in his computer, and that he was one of only TWO dealers in the area who had the specific model, make & color that I was looking for... he gave me the advise to call the first dealer back, and ask for a VIN number. When I called back and did so, the saleman paused and then stated that my car was no longer in stock and that it must have sold (since the time I spoke w/him two hours earlier). Obviously, I stopped negotiating w/this dealership.

All in all, the internet was unbelievably helpful, and there were a handful of dealers who were very helpful, and more importantly ethical... while I did need to make a few phone calls and negotiate with the internet managers, in the end I struck a great deal, and it was fairly pain free. When I walked into the dealership to close the sale, it took literally minutes to close the sale.

    Hope this helps.
  • wisngamecockwisngamecock Member Posts: 52
Just curious, kkftz, which dealer did you buy from. I was in a similar postion a few weeks ago and landed with Acura of Libertyville. Paid close to invoice for an 05 manual w/o navi
  • mikeg2mikeg2 Member Posts: 13
These prices sound very encouraging for a 6sp.I was told they were only 2% of TL sales so they are harder to come by than an auto.and thus command more $$$.
  • kkftzkkftz Member Posts: 15
I actually bought at Acura of Brookfield (in WI).... Acura of Libertyville gave me the best quote over the Internet, and when I discussed live with them (over the phone) it was even better. They were very great to work with... they actually were the ones to reco getting the Vin# (in my past post). I took the quote to Acura of Broookfield, and they stated that they couldn't match it. I walked out... later that day got a call from them stating that they would not only match my IL quote, but that they would beat it by $200.

I get the feeling that they were sick of losing WI business to IL (it's becoming all too common). That fact that I was buying in late December didn't hurt either. The folks from Brookfield were SUPER nice, and the guy I worked with was terrific. In fact, BOTH dealers were WONDERFUL to work with, but being from WI, I was very happy to keep the business at home. I would reco both dealers, as they were both good to work with. As I mentioned in my previous e-mail, there were some "shady" dealers in IL that were less than honest, but Libertyville was very fair (not to mention, they gave me a great price). It worked out great for me... would reco both dealers... I can guarantee that the WI dealer would not have come down so much had I not had the IL quote and the fact that I was willing to walk also played a part of it. Best advise to all is to get as many legitimate quotes as possible... while it takes time, it's worth it in the end.

Those are some great prices people are getting! I wonder why Edmund's TMV shows only $200-400 off MSRP for these?

Anybody with dealership experience in the Dallas area? Looking for a TL for the wife.
  • indydriverindydriver Member Posts: 620
This is why dealers are crazy to give out their best numbers over the internet. They just get shopped and lower the market. The Libertyville guys will go ballistic when they see how unfair you were to them. Not only did you shop their price once, you went back a second time! Have you no sense of fair play? You must have never worked in sales.
  • keyserkeyser Member Posts: 31
Theres nothing wrong with shopping a price. In a transparant market (where all sales are known), price reflects a supply & demand curve. Without going into an economics lesson, if a dealer is willing to sell at a certain price, its not because the other dealer is, but rather because they've determined that price to be profitable to them. No one's forcing a dealer to sell the car at the price the buyer wants. Price transparancy is in existence in most markets, why shouldn't it be so in the auto industry. If one really wants to be fair, then the dealers should list their sales prices on the cars -- no haggling, everyone gets the fair price (not just the 'informed' customers), thus the dealers price would actually reflect their supply/demand curve.

can anybody give me some advice: i live in southern CA,am buying a 6speedTL,white,non navi, unfortunately in CA they don't have it so i have 2 preorder and wait 2-3 mos.they quote me $31000(w/car dest),then i have a brother in Jax,FL he said they have d car i wanted offering me $35000 out d door but still negotiable, but doesn't include d shipping costs JAX to CA,so amthinking if they could go $35,000 out d door w/ d shipping i might think of getting it.Is it worth it 2 buy in FL where they have d exact car that i want and don't have 2 wait 2-3mos. but pay extra $1000? or just wait and preorder on my local dealer, any thoughts/suggestions are appreciated....

I figure I'd write with the end of the story.I am shopping in the DC suburbs.Since my old car is falling apart and the dealers were pricing high by phone I used Carbargains buying service.Got quotes from 8 dealers w/in 75 miles ranging from $1700 to $500 over sticker on a 05 silver 6sp w/nav.Cost of service was $160 and prices were guaranteed by dealers.I may have done better with more time but can't complain.

Only because I reviewed these posts did I get the following deal yesterday at Acura of South Bay in Torrance, CA (aka Power Acura):

    TL with nav, anthracite/ebony

    invoice + destination +

                   pro pack: 33,673 (1,300 > inv.)

    chrome wheels 700

    DMV, license, tires 327

    Total: 34,700 + taxes

I went to curryacuracare.com and got a bid for $1,160 from them for the 7/100 warrantee. I brought that into the dealer and they honored it.

South Bay was great. I heartily recommend them.

    Got quotes from 8 dealers w/in 75 miles ranging from $1700 to $500 over sticker on a 05 silver 6sp w/nav.

Over sticker? Do you mean over invoice?
  • mikeg2mikeg2 Member Posts: 13
Over invoice. This service worked out for me on a CRV in the past when it was new and they were getting over list.Dealers outside of you buying area will go out of their way to get your business and then local dealers often match these prices. The service did $500 better than my best deal on my own.
  • wisngamecockwisngamecock Member Posts: 52
I agree with Keyser. Another point: the non-local dealer in this case probably spent only 10 minutes on this deal. If dealers were losing their shirts they wouldn't be in business. Also, don't forget the Edmunds crowd tends to be price and information savvy consumers. There are plenty of other buyers out there that pad the dealer's profit margins.
  • aaarghaaargh Member Posts: 230
$500 over invoice for a navi... Not bad at all.
  • mryymryy Member Posts: 19
I finally picked up my 2005 6-speed MT with navi (Anthracite/Ebony) last Friday, after waiting over a month. The price is $32,900 + $100 doc fee, excl. TTL, (referred to my previous post #2553), with free wheel locks.

Columbia Acura at Cincinnati Ohio is very professional and honest. That was the quote they gave me on my initial inquiry. The price was so good then (beat other dealers by at least $1k), that I did not have too much negotiating power over them. Therefore wheel lock is the only freebie.

The car had only 2 miles on its odometer. A superb car to drive! I am extremely excited.

Give Columbia Acura a try if you are nearby or willing to travel.

I live in Pacific Beach (San Diego) and wanted to buy the 2005 TL 5sp. AT w/o Nav. The only dealer down here is Cush (in Escondido and Kearny Mesa). I went to Cush and they have this scam they call a protection package which is just three accessories (trunk tray, wheel locks and splash guards) they add this to all the TL's for $569 which is a joke. SO I go in there to test drive and they will not go lower that $2000 over invoice. I looked on the internet and found the best price is from the internet manager at Glendale Acura (just moved from Pasedena at the start of the year). They don't add the stupid protection package and he went $1000 over invoice. NO BS, the service here was phenomenal. I was in and out in 2hrs (only that long because we traded in a honda accord, which by the way they offered me a legit price which was 700 over what Cush offered). Go on a Sunday when traffic is light and you will save yourself at least $1400 bucks over CUSH. As for as the accessories the Glendale guy gave me a link where I can buy the " CUSH protection package" for less than 200 bucks. Bottom line, if you want to save big money and have excellent service, DO NOT BUY AT CUSH - go to LA or Orange County and save some loot.

I am quite new to this process and could certainly benefit from those accomplished automobile purchasers and negotiators. After many a test drive, I have arrived at my decision to purchase 2005 Acura TL automatic without navigation. (I tested the Infiniti G35, BMW 325i, Lexus E330, Volvo S60, Nissan Maxima)

I reside in South Carolina and want to learn how much the dealer actually purchased the vehicle I am interested. Dealers seem quite upfront with showing what they call “invoice price” is this a true/accurate figure representing what the dealer paid? How do I learn what it cost the dealer? Does anyone know the true dealer invoice price on 2005 Acura TL automatic without navigation?

Once I learn the cost, how do I proceed with negotiating the lowest purchase price while avoiding the pitfalls of erroneous fees? I do not have a trade in. I am familiar that discussing financing is discouraged while trying to establish the sale price of the vehicle.

I have the ability to shop online in North and South Carolina, Georgia and Northern Florida; however, how do I approach a dealer and suggest a price? What are dealers typically willing to accept for a new car, do I offer exactly what they paid, $500 over their purchase price, etc?

If I am not getting what I feel is reasonable, do I start suggesting building value to their price by adding floor mats, trunk tray, shifter knob, etc at no additional charge?

It is approaching the end of January, is it best to offer on the last day of the month or is a few days before equally effective?

Are there any current financing deals to be had at Acura? I understand in December there were some competitive rates 2.9%? Do dealerships want my cash or would they prefer me to finance with them to further generate additional profits? Do I have the ability to negotiate and/or leverage lower interest rates with Acura? If so how is this done?

I could sure use a mentor on this, my first new automobile, purchase.

    Would honestly appreciate the help!

This quote was from Performance in Chapel Hill, NC. I spoke with a guy named Mark. Of course by the time we finalized the negotiations, some one had come in an bought the car.

They are ordering me another one like this but I am paying an extra fee for shipping. They picked up some of the cost but I picked up the majority. That stinks but I checked 3 dealerships in the Raleigh, NC area and as of yesterday, there wasn't one auto with nav on any of their lots (except the one I tried to buy).

    The breakdown is

    $33,728.50 car

    $1,011.86 tax

    $398.00 doc fee

    $62.00 tag

$35,200.36 grand total out of the door

I could wait until 2/15 and get one from another dealer in Cary, NC (Leith) and save $235 but at this point, I'm eager to have the car after 3 months of research.

I was shocked to see $400 documentation fees.A few places in Va. were asking $300.It takes a high school kid an hour to push a pile of these things thru the DMV up here. This has the looks of the added advertising fees seen in some states.Does the dealer let you do it yourself? The dealers in Md. as around $100.Good luck withg a great sounding car.

"TL W/HPT package has everything that TL-S had, plus 6-speed transmission, better tires and upgraded brakes." This quote comes from another site.

I haven't seen aything on this site about the 6 speed HPT. A local dealer has one that's selling for $200 over the MSRP of the 5 speed auto w/NAV.The MSRP is $35,670.

Is this a 6 speed automatic? Does it have upgraded brakes? Any comments on the transmission? I know the 2000-2003 TLs and tranmission problems. I'm not sure if I should take a chance on this transmission. I've never heard of this transmission on this car. Thanks for any help
