After waiting 4 months for my truck, I found out that the dealership didn't order it correctly. They left out some options and screwed up on others. So the Salesman and I, located a truck 225 miles away that was what I wanted. After telling me for 2 weeks that it will be in, he finally told me that he couldn't work out a deal with them. So I had enough and got my deposit back. I located the dealership that had the truck(225 miles away) and worked out a price of 330 over invoice with a $149 dealership fee. This is only $30 more than I previously had worked out. ($250 0ver w/ $199 dealer fee). I'm glad to finally say that I'll have this long-waited truck in 3 days. Many dealers wouldn't bother messing with my deal (few hundred over invoice) but when you say that you can take it off their lot in a couple days they are more willing to drop closer to what you wanted... besides having the Invoice Printout let me know exactly how much they pay to what I am willing to pay.
Also Ryanbab... That's two questions not one... but that's a whole nother topic... ~Teaboy~
Has anyone else had a 2000 silverado that every once in a while the security light comes on and the only way to get it to go off is to shut the pu off and re start it. It also has a habit of not starting once in a while. I have found out that if I let it sit for a while and then retry it will start and run. Never has quit once it starts and runs. Took to dlr and he put a computer on it,showed 2 codes but not what was wrong. Any ideas or same troubles?
Good job getting it on your own. That first dealer sucks and doesn't deserve your business. Make sure the new truck doesn't have the shakes before you commit to it.
Well I've figured out the mystery of the sometimes door click. Mine clicks when the temperature drops below 60 or so, and not when it's warmer. I hope some grease solves the problem.
I have 1300 miles on my 2500 w/locker and just noticed a streak of wet starting at the drive shaft seal and running along the bottom of the diff all the way to the back. Is this normal seepage? It's not dripping, just wet.
i can't stand either, but if i HAVE to waste my time scrolling over either, i prefer the mirror arguments. at least they're related to the silverado. kyle
So when will the 1/2 ton trucks see the plastic parts? I've heard the plastic beds are coming on 2001, and other plastic body panels are coming soon after.
I was thrilled to hear that i was getting my truck at 330 over invoice..but found out today that the prices of the trucks went up in mid November...so its gonna be 500 more than it was at the other dealership that messed up.
I dont want to accept the truck they ordered because of all the screwed up options...but if i dont and take another one...I am forced to pay the updated price..since its past the Nov price raise.
Anyone else have a problem with the integrated seatbelts? My '99 Silverado LT Ext. 4x4 just jammed its right front passenger belt so badly that even a Barbie doll wouldn't fit in that seat. The only thing to take apart is that plastic cover where the belt feeds in...there seems to be nothing else to adjust. The belt won't retract or extend...its just stuck. Anyone else have this issue???
Seems like you keep getting screwed. I can't get my truck either but I don't seem to have the bad luck you do. My 2000 LT 3/4 4X4 LB XC has been ordered since Sept 15. I called the GM 800 number AGAIN today and found out that my truck will not be built until January at the earliest. They said all of Dec allotments for that kind of truck are filled. Also said there is a SMALL problem with them getting parts from venders for trailer package and locking diff. Man, I sure wanted that truck by Christmas.8<(
WOW, I had no idea my "personal preference" comment about leather seats in a truck would spark such emotions. Used to be a truck was a truck. Today, it may very well be the family sedan. You like leather, by all means, get leather! I love the feel, comfort, smell - I have it on my family car.
The only reason I didn't order the LT was the standard leather seats. I use my truck on a ranch and I can't see wasting $1700 on something that will be ruined in the 1st couple of months (sweat, grease, paint, ground in dirt, etc...). If I can't enjoy it, I'm not paying for it.
Grease, dirt paint etc don't do cloth seats much good either. I have found the leather to be easy to keep clean. Just wipe them off and use leather care junk on them 2 times per year. The power leather seats (with heat) is one of the reasons I bought the LT package. By the time I added the options up on the LS VS the LT I think I came out ahead. With the LT I also got the memory seat and power on drivers and passenger seats.
awhile back someone had mentioned a website that, once you got your order number and/or build date (i can't remember which) you could track the status of your truck. can anyone help me out on this one. hopefully, i'll have an order number before too long...hopefully...hopefully...hopefully... (if i keep saying it, does that mean it will happen quicker?) oh well, thanks to anyone who can help kyle
Well...They are here...But I don't think I'll have the time until next week to slap them on.
They got a ton of brackets...and the boards are built like a Brick Shi.......
A few bolt to the cab mounts...a couple on the frame...and a hole or two have to be drilled into the Rocker panels.....Yikes!....I don't like that idea...oh well.....
The putco web site shows one style...but the ones that came are much different.
I have the standard mirrors and tow a 23' trailer with good vision on both sides. The longer mirrors do help when backing up though as you can see around the corners. I have the leather seats because the cloth ones I had before got thrashed to easily and I just plain like em. As Bill mentioned, with the leather you just wipe them off. 500 more bucks to get what you really want? That is a bargain.Better yet, wait a couple of months and then you will have saved the 500$ in gas money you would have had to spend. Of course by then you may have to wait till 2001......
markbuck - that's a use for camper mirrors I bet even GM didn't think of! All those hours of design and testing so you can have a cargo rack. (I'll keep it in mind though)
kpellerin - don't choose the camper mirrors if your trailer is narrow. I'm sure the stock mirrors would work for that. The camper mirrors are manual and the passenger side is flat, no wide angle, which means you must stick on your own wide angle mirror unless you like crushing Miatas. They are nice mirrors however if you have a big trailer.
teaboy - more bad luck. Pay the money and enjoy the truck. It's not worth $500 to sweat it any more.
werking - that web site is a fantasy like the Bat Cave. People have asked if it exists, not given the address.
Tim - Yay! Long live camper mirrors! Maybe I'll start a Camper Mirror topic. Your Putco boards are nice but the old ones are a little more stylish. They may be a little busy for this truck though since it kind of has busy lines on the side. What the heck, the clock is ticking on this truck anyway. Put on the boards you have and in a few months start planning your next truck.
This link will show you a picture of my truck and the additions made so far. Currently I'm the truck at the top (99 Silverado, xcab, Indigo blue), NOTICE the badges are all removed! Sorry it took so long to answer, you don't check daily and boy you can fall behind on messages.
Someone mentioned a phone number that can be used to call GM with questions about outstanding orders. Would someone please post that number. The Silverado I ordered was supposedly built 11/2 and seems to have disappeared. The dealer says it hasn't shipped yet and they can't seem to find out the current status. So, I want to start calling to see if I can find out anything.
My question is how many oz. or how much wheel weight is too much that I should be concerned about an extremely unbalanced tire? background- I just purchased a new Firestone Wilderness AT 265/75SR16 OWL to replace one that was punctured on a new 1999 LT with 5K miles. (New vehicles don't come with a road hazard warranty for tires but that's another story.) This is the exact tire that was on the truck. The original tire had only one small wheel weight on the inside and the same on the inside. The other 3 wheels have only 1 small weight on outside or inside with one having no weights at all. With the new tire, there are three large weights (covering almost a 1/4 of the wheel) and a large one on the inside. This looks extremely bad and I almost didn't even put it on the truck. I think total oz. on the outside is 4.5 and 1.5 on the inside. This seems rather odd since the new weights are on opposite sides to from where the small ones were placed with the previous tire. Is this new tire that much out of balance and should I accept this or go back to the tire store and ask them to remount or replace the tire. I did get the road hazard warranty on this one! Thanks, Tony PS, It took 40 min to use the jack and put the spare on....comparing directions in manual vs sheet on jack accessories cover, and then actually doing everything the first time on this new truck. The whole job only took 15 min from start to finish when putting the new one back on. Hint - familiarize yourself with the instructions before that first flat tire.

Thanks bluebeast your truck is pretty cool. I think u need to add some nerf bars but its your truck. I think i like all the badges on the truck and those mudflaps sorry to say are not to my liking. I have seen some nice ones on a guys at work plain black and a little bigger and not rounded like the chevys. May i ask how much you paid for yours? The one i am gonna order is an LS with only a few less options like leather and power seats and i am contimplating on gettting the LT why not mine is gonna cost $29000 after taxes so why not pay about a grand more? Then add nerf bars, spray in bed liner, grill guard, bed rail caps, mudflaps and it comes out to alot more but hey why not go all out. Does the LT come standard with the compass in the mirrors? i thought it did with the LS but i was wrong. Thanks for the pic bluebeast hope to hear from you soon.
I am not sure, but I believe there is a balance point on tires. This appeared to be the case with my tires on my new truck. I know on motorcycles there is a balance point on the tire, not sure if cars and trucks are the same. If this is the case that could be the problem with your new tire.
Got good news today. My truck build week is Dec 6, and I ordered on Nov 8. 1500LS, 5.3,2wd, 4 door(GM changed to 3 door),locking diff 3.73, ZX3 suspension, trailer pckg, power buckets, two-tone (pewter over med gray). Hope it actually builds.
Someone else was saying something about getting engine controller calibration info. I have the web site bookmarked, but don't understand what folks are planning to do with the calibration info. Anyone care to explain? When can you get your vehicle's VIN?
The VIN for your vehicle will be on the invoice for the vehicle you ordered. The dealer faxed me my invoice yesterday; vehicle delivery to him is scheduled to be by 8 Dec. If you buy a vehicle off the lot, the VIN is on the dash. By going to the calibration site and entering your VIN, you can check if there are any bulletins for recalibrating your computer to update it for new/better (?) performance.
Petri, Thanks for the calibration answer,,,I'll check it after delivery.
Mtra, I'm as sure that it will be built next week with ZX3 as I can be until it appears at the dealership. I expressed concern about the ZX3 suspension to the dealership, and they indicated that another ZX3 ordered a month before mine had been rescheduled for the same week as mine. So, maybe the ZX3 is now for real.
My order for a four door was changed to an order for a 3 door. I really don't know if GM did it or if GM did it with the agreement of the dealer. The sales person told me they put it in as a 3 door because it would not "take" as a 4 door (it would become a non order). He said that we should leave it as a 3 door until a build week was assigned, and that then we could cancel the 3door and resubmit the 4 door. I decided that the 3 door will do just fine, save $300, have a more rigid and quiet cab, less weight, and a great truck sooner. Five years from now the resale will not be a problem.
The calibration explanation wasn't quite complete. That web site just lists the history of code versions released for your vehicle type. In most cases your truck will already have the latest version installed. The only way to know is to connect to the diag port and find the actual versions running, and then compare that to the web site info to see if you have the latest. You need a programmer or the dealer to get the diag port info.
Ron,those python wheels will look great on your truck. Those are the wheels I ended up with on my truck. Beware though, they are a popular choice on the new chevy.Ryan, the 00' LT comes with the temp. on the mirror as well.It even flashes the word ICE when the temp falls below 35*. I think the standard options on the Lt are well worth the extra dough.
Its a hard decision i am kinda leaning towards LT for some odd reason i dont want leather but might as well get it go all out for the first vehicle. My salesman i talk to is gonna build me one with everything i want and then give me a price he said itll probably be $33,000 then u can minus 13% off that cause of the gm supplier deal so that helps out. Ths LS i was planning on getting was gonna cost $29000 after taxes. Thermometer: i know about the ice thingie got in our 2000 blazer and looked up and said oh my god ice what is this then it said 29 degrees wow time for the heated seats i said hey those things arent all that bad. I guess using them for the first time has changed my mind. I can live with em. Hey bluebeast what brand of tires came with your truck? Firestone or goodyear????? This is the only thing that is gonna drive me crazy when i order mine. I see trucks with both i just hope i luck out and get goodyears.
Interestingly enough, Firestone is Bridgestone and perhaps that may be a sign of improved quality. I really hate to pay $365.00? (can't remember the exact figure) dollars extra for tires that I can by on sale cheaper at my local Firestone retailer. I would say that we are getting hosed on this whole tire thing. GM is making a lot of money on these tires. They have you over a barrel though. If you order the trailer tow package you have to order some optional tire for at least $165.00? So if you want to swap out tires you are already $165.00 in the hole. Perhaps you could make up some of the money in a resale, but you still have to lay out the cash up front. Of course the tires I want are Michelin LTX M & S. 5 of which would run me about $800.00. I guess I am stuck with the Firestones for the life of my truck. It will probably take me 5 years to hit 45,000 miles, and five years is long time for me to own anything.
I ordered the trailer tow package on an LS and didn't have to order extra cost tires. I, too, felt the cost of the larger tires was too high. I hope I'm not in for a surprise when the truck is delivered.
I have heard that the LT is only 10% as well. When I was in the 4 month process of getting the truck I wanted (99 Z71 LT), the dealer told me he wouldn't have any problems getting me an LS, but the LTs were hard to get. Any dealer that had an LT wouldn't give them up. Placed an order and it got lost. I was ready to go to a different dealer (even though I was getting a really good deal, but a good deal with no truck is no deal at all), when he found a dealer that would trade a suburban LT for a silverado LT. Admittedly I was very picky on my colors, options, etc. but if I'm spending that much money I'm going to be picky!
The guy i am ordering from in march told me to go with the LS if i wanted to get the truck in july he told me it would be very hard to get an LT. I dont know exact percentages. Around here (chicagoland area) most people have the base model for some odd reason. Where i work there are about 5 trucks 3 of which are dark carmine and are LS's. 2 one black and one pewter are both LT's. FIRESTONE TIRES: I have to say i dont like them i like the good year AT/s better and another reason is because i dont know exactly why but there was a strike with firestone and my grandpa was heavy into unions and something happened and he mentioned to never buy firestone and that stuck with me. If i do get the firestone i am hoping my salesman will send the truck out and switch em i will gladly pay the difference. He has already told me he will send the truck out when it comes in to get a spray in liner put in at a very low cost to me. I am hoping he throws it in for free. Shoot i am traveling 3 hours away to go to this dealership i should get something. As of this week i am now leaning towards an LT even if i have to maybe wait a few extra months shoot that would make my mom happy. next week ill probably change my mind.
My 1500 Y2K LT was also hard to come by. It took all together 2 1/2 month by the dealer I finally bought it from but two other dealers were never able to locate/obtain one for me.
What I found odd at the time was that there were plenty of LS "fully loaded to the hilt" even with power leather seats, but no LT hardly anywhere. (Somehow, the dealers must make more money from fully loaded LS than already loaded LT...)

Have you test driven that new truck? Since it's so far away, have you been behind the wheel?
One almost identical though...
Cant wait until Tuesday...

Some people feel the need for power mirrors, and these are fully manual. But I've only had to adjust them twice in 21,000 miles.
