Scion XB as a used car (mostly transmission issue)

I'm considering a Scion Xb as a used car. I need a roughly 3 year life , would be low mileage usage (maybe 8k miles/year), and just need a local driving "carries a fair bit of stuff" kind of car. Minimizing total cost would probably drive me to the 2006-09 timeframe.

In just reading various reviews the transmission of this car seems to pop up often as a possible issue - both poor shifting when it works and transmission reliability (my preference is an automatic, but could live with the manual). I can't tell if this is worse in the year 2008 or if all the Xb's of that era have a less than good transmission.

Any input would be appreciated - thanks.

I don't have any input on this car, but it's one more good reason to pick a manual transmission.
