I got my M45 Sport in twilight blue with graphite and rosewood interior. I prefer dark colors (other than black) and blue was the best option for me. I love the blue, which complements the rims very nicely. I also like the dark interior, especially after the tan interior in my last vehicle.

The "mystique" or "cachet" that is being referred to may be more in like with how consumers perceive rebadging as a form of compromising exclusivity. For example often times you'll hear people refer to a Lexus ES as a dressed up Camry, an Acura TL as an Accord, an Infinti QX is a Nissan Armada. Now a dressed 3 series is...um...errrr...an Optioned 3-series??? A dressed C-Class is.......... If you notice Lexus is gradually separating themselves from their Toyota counterparts, Infiniti with the G sedan and M are doing likewise.

Don't know what it is for a purchase but for leasing use these:

For 36 months, 15K miles, money rate of 0.00173, 60% residual
For 39 months, 15K miles, money rate of 0.00175, 59% residual
For 42 months, 15K miles, money rate of 0.00175, 57% residual

For 12K miles the money rate remains the same but the residuals increase by a percent. These are the base rates from Infiniti Financial Services. Tustin Infiniti initially added 0.00035 to these rates - was able to negotiate the increase away.

From www.infiniti.com these are the current inventories for the 12 dealers within 50 miles of Disneyland.

    M35 - 45 cars
    M35 Sport - 119 cars
    M35 AWD - 37 cars

    M45 - 78 cars
    M45 Sport - 127 cars

Some dealers sold quite a few. Will be interesting to see what the April sales numbers will be. I'm guessing that they will beat March's.

I have the M35x in Twilight Blue, w/ wheat interior, journey, tech, and splash guards ... got it for $1,500 under sticker b/c I was at the dealer at 7:00pm on 3/31 and they wanted the sale to count for March's books. The Twilight Blue color is nice, and the interior/exterior color combination is great ... not alot of Twilight Blue M's on the streets here in Cleveland. Then again, not alot of M's period from what I've seen. I've only driven mine 4 times so far as I am waiting on a few rain days to surface the salt from the roads and wash it away!!!

Thanks for the info- color combo sounds nice- I'm going to do the same thing the end of May- I'll go into the dealer before they close and hope for a better deal. Good luck with the car- I can't wait to get mine. Did you buy or lease?

Well said lawdawg! I also looked at the Mercedes and couldn't get convinced as much as I did toward the Infiniti, also did a ton of research including this foru, and ordered the M35x in late March and hope to take delivery by end of June, but hopefully sooner.

    Enjoy your car!
  • markcincinnatimarkcincinnati Member Posts: 5,343
If you ordered in late March, this means the order actually went to Infiniti in Japan during the first Biz Week of April -- lead times "to promise" (according to two dealers) 100 days, with a caution that it might be 110 days. I was told July. I put my order in March 31.

Let's see: Days - April -30, May - 31, June -30, July -19th "could be your lucky day." If it comes in sooner more the better!

I find it hard to believe that all dealers are getting 8 cars a month. Some dealers in the tristate of OH/IN/KY only list 3 or 4 cars, others about 16 or more.

This Mercedes and BMW cachet talk is interesting. I have friends all over the country who have either/or and they complain repeatedly about major and minor malfunctions that drive them crazy. A golfing buddy has a Lexus LS ... ~ 6 years old ... recently got an SL500 and is tearing his hair out because the trunk occasionally doesn't open, the fuel guage occasionally doesn't register, door locks occasionally don't lock (or unlock) ... extraordinary "annoyances" that have him ready to dump the SL. Another golfing buddy had to get a new engine in his E320 at 15K miles. And a friend in NJ had his SL55 AMG bought back by MB after a window fell out, the trunk filled with water whenever it rained, even the beverage holder jammed. Similar stories from owners of bimmers, but not as many. I've yet to hear of a "lemon" Lexus, Infiniti, or Acura (but I'm sure they're out there).

The sales manager at the Infiniti store here was with Lexus for 12 years during which time he said Lexus had to buy back two cars. Last year he worked for MB ... and they had to buy back seven cars!

I bought my Infiniti because I like everything about it ... the way it looks, the way it drives/handles, etc. I drove the new GS and everything about it was first class ... but it wasn't fun to drive. I'm a driver, not a rider. I had a '94 Q45 ~ bought IT because it was immensely more fun to drive than the LS. De ja vu all over again.

Agree, however, with an earlier post that Infiniti has been unable to compete with the Lexus LS and until it does deliver a true competitor for the LS it will remain a second tier luxury brand to some. And until BMW dresses up its cars and gives them some "polish" (the interior of the 5-series is ghastly and with anything less than the V8 it's a slug) in MY opinion it's a third tier luxury brand. The 7-series is, however, a worthy competitor for the LS. Bart

m_pilot: I agree ... it's counterintuitive. And given the fact that it came from a car salesman, well ... consider the source!

I think you might be wrong about this. IMO, Lexus did so well early on primarily because of the absolutely glowing reviews given the LS400. I read those reviews, as many others did, and became a believer. Infiniti never got universally blown away reviews from the mainstream press until now. The reviewers from papers all over the country are absolutely astounded by this car. Much like the reviewers for the first LS400 and early BMW 5 series. This kind of press is creating a great new image for infiniti, and I believe they’re moving to Tier 1 in perceptions.

Take a look at these reviews:

Car And Driver: M45 Rocks, Game Over
USA Today: Making BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi and Cadillac irrelevant (PDF)
USA Today: The M is what the BMW 5 should have been.
Washington Post: Bess, You Is My Woman Now.
LA Times: Losing one's license in a blood-bubbling fit of speed narcosis
Detroit News: A standout in just about every way

If I have one complaint about my new M35 it's that the road noise seems much more pronounced than that of the the BMW X5 i just turned in. I recall a thread here in which someone mentioned over-inflation of tires as an issue. My on-board computer has my psi at 45-47 at any given time. I believe the recommended psi is 33-35 for my stock 18s. Why would the psi be so off when I drove the car off the lot?

Sorry to revisit the topic, but I would appreciate any advice/input on the subject, particularly from those who have personally dealt with the same scenario. Thanks in advance.

BTW, still the best I've ever felt in a new car. I'm flat out loving it.

    Karen,

I got mine for $50k all in. I'm getting a Twilight Blue M35 with the Premium Package. The invoice for the M35 with the Premium Package is just over $46k, but with a 7% sales tax for DeKalb county (I live in Stone Mountain), the taxes were a little over $3200. So in the end, I came up around $1000 over invoice. Far less than MSRP, which is a little over $51k for the M35 with Premium Pkg., and that's before the taxes are added on.

I came in with a pre-approved draft and the dealer gave me above Kelly Blue Book to make the deal happen. The whole transaction literally took about 20 minutes. I initially test drove the car at Infiniti at Gwinnett like you and went back to them. The salesperson I dealt with was very helpful; his name was Joe. Is this who you're dealing with?

BTW, I just received a voice mail earlier that the car will be here the first of July if not sooner. Can't wait!!

I tend to use voice recognition most frequently to get to different radio bands. Since there are so many XM stations, there is no way to program everything into presets. I just push the voice recognition buttion of the steering wheel and say "Tune Channel X Sat" and voila! It is easy to then turn the radio knob and scroll through the stations.

I also have one station programmed in preset band A, number 6 and at least one station into each of the other preset bands (B and C). This way I can get to them very easily from the hard buttons.

I find myself using voice recognition quite a bit for radio tuning however.

Your thorough decision-making process is the reason why you'll probably always get the most for your money. That was a perfect example you gave; you loved the BMW, but weren't blindly loyal to the brand a recognized a car that would offer you just as much, if not more, for less money.

I'm INSANELY jealous of you right now because you can at least drive yours....I've gotta wait!!!

It appears that most everyone posting here that has pulled the trigger on the M is ordering one--are they really that scarce or is it just a matter of getting precisely what you want???
  • bw45sportbw45sport Member Posts: 151
I can't answer as to why the cars ship with the tires over inflated but it certainly appears that they do so almost universally. I think most people measuring their tires at delivery would find 40psi to be the norm. Your tires are running at higher rates due to the build up of heat although 5 to 7 psi seems high.

I've learned to check tires at delivery closely after the delivery fiasco of my CLK430 5 years ago. Not only were the tires over inflated, but they were actually mounted at the wrong positions on the car. They were staggered size, unidirectional tires and my friends the Germans had actually mounted them so the outside of the tires said "inside". The salesman laughed it off and said they must have built my car during Oktoberfest. Amusing story but it made me wonder about the ContiSport blowouts I had on my previous car.

Anyway, lower the pressure to 32psi cold and you will find that the car rides much smoother and in my experience with less road/tire noise.
  • lawdawgmilawdawgmi Member Posts: 62
Thanks for the kind words. My wife may big to differ with you on my decision making capabilities in general, but not on this car.....I was fortunate to get mine as quickly as I did. The salesman told me they were going fast and for once I didn't dismiss it as puffery, because the dealership was jumping each time I visited. He asked me to give him a "backup" interior but i stuck to the bourbon, which drew me to the car the first time i ever saw it. I was able to get my car within 30 days of order here in Michigan; I understand those were the good old days.

You will really love this car. i drove the other contenders but you know when you've met your true love and this was it. I actually WANTED to like the 530 more, because I consider myself a BMW guy. I drove the M and the 530 within 30 minutes of one another and frankly there was no comparison.

You guys will love this: my Infiniti salesman agreed to turn in my BMW for me, and to have its cracked windshield replaced at the Infiniti dealer before doing so (on my insurance, of course). Thse guys know how to do business! On the downside, i can see my lease end tab getting pretty fat after an Infiniti salesman drops it off for me...

Hang in there--the wait makes it that much sweeter!

All new cars are delivered with overinflated tires. There's some kind of reason for this, I just can't remember it.

In any case, the dealer is supposed to deflate it to the proper psi. Obviously, your dealer forgot (the guy getting paid $7 an hour to prep the car forgot). Just set it to the proper psi in the manual and you're good to go.
  • jrock65jrock65 Member Posts: 1,371
I think in some cases they are scarce.

Also, a manager for one of the biggest Infiniti dealers said that the initial batch of M's were delivered with option/package/color combinations that weren't that popular (stupid Nissan forecasting).

I think the Journey/Tech package (whether M35, M45, or Sport) is the most popular combo. People shopping in this price range aren't shy about coughing up a few more thousand to get the latest goodies (Tech package), especially when even so equipped the car's price is still less than the competitors'.

I am going to get a new car hopefully in august and have been looking at the usual cars in the 55k price range. 530xi,e350, gs300awd,M35x,etc

I have yet to drive any of these cars but i think i have made up my mind just by reading reviews and from this reading comments on this forum. I am going for the M35x for sure. Probably go black w/ black interior and tech/journey package. Just want to test drive it and then i am all set. I asked around for some prices and bmw wanted $200 more a month for the 530xi over the M35x. that is way too much for 530 especially with that interior. Has anyone seen the M in black? which color is nicer, the black, diamond graphite or liquid platinum??? thanks alot
  • lexusguylexusguy Member Posts: 6,419
I think you'll be quite pleased with the M. Thats not to say that you shouldnt at least try some of the other cars, but IMO the M currently rules the segment in bang for the buck, and just plain bang period.
  • m35girlm35girl Member Posts: 18
I had to order because I wanted AWD and they are not delivering any to NC, plus the color I wanted was only on the lot in an M45 or didn't have the tech package. I still watch the inventory to see what's coming in, but I really wanted the AWD so I'll just have to wait.
  • kmg68kmg68 Member Posts: 108
    Henry,

WOW! I am very impressed with your deal! I am also impressed by the fact that you were only in there for about 20 minutes! Since you got your financing elsewhere, what kind of interest rate did you get? Also what color interior did you get? I can't decide-wondering if the graphite leather will be too hot in the summer. I haven't attempted to bargain much, because I didn't think I could get an M35 for $1000.00 above invoice at this time, which is why I was going to wait until Fall. If I can get an M35 w/ Journey/Tech for $1,000 above invoice, I might have to get one sooner than I initially anticipated! THANK YOU so much for the great information! Looking forward to seeing another M35 on the road in ATL-enjoy!!!

The dealer fouled up ... tires are way overinflated, hence some of the harshness and road noise. Even with properly inflated tires (mine checked out at 36) you'll still have a bit more road noise than in the GS or 5-series BMW ... but nothing like you're experiencing now.
  • my45my45 Member Posts: 26
The reason the tires are over inflated is so they don't develop a flat spot during shipment or while sitting on the dealer's lot. I used to telecommute and sometimes my car would sit for a week without being used. It would often feel like the tires were out of balance when first driving it. The flat spots come out after driving for a while, but I imagine there could be some permanency if the car sat for a really long time. During prep of the M they are supposed to bring them back down to 34 psi cold, and when they are warm you'll see them up to 37 or 38.

I already placed my order with a Denver Infiniti dealer on the web and got that deal. Sorry.

I can pick up the car in Columbus or Nashville -- obviously, I chose Columbus.

Cincinnati friends said local dealer in Cincinnati was not easy to buy from -- the Internet was quick and easy.
  • docnukemdocnukem Member Posts: 485
I just want to point this out to anyone considering the premium package. If you plan on routinely having three people in the back (okay, kids), know that the seat controls for reclining and heat are in the fold-down armrest--therefore unusable. I suppose I should have realized this or asked about it before ordering. If I had, I would have probably ordered it with journey, tech, and DVD player/screen. I don't have much need for the rear sunshade in MI.

Since I use a car seat in the middle, it is even more of a problem as I would have to take it out anytime I wanted to use the seat controls when traveling with less that three in the back seat.
  • carnaughtcarnaught Member Posts: 3,583
I'm happy to report that the car is as tight and rattle-free as the proverbial drum. Everthing continues to work flawlessly and unlike posts on other forums, I still do not feel that such things as the quality of the leather, fit and finish and the 'thump" of the doors closing, are in any way lacking. The car drives beautifully and my initial impression, one of a great combination of Lexus' quality and German car fun -to- drive factor still holds. The interior exudes a modern futuristic sense of luxury.

For all of you waiting to take delivery, hang in there as your wait will be well worth it.
  • markcincinnatimarkcincinnati Member Posts: 5,343
I will accept being called crazy or insane or nuts, even -- but my wife and I ALWAYS order our cars.

Now, I guess if the EXACT car we wanted was on the lot or could be had with a dealer trade, I would move forward -- but since 1977, this has only happened twice as I recall.

It is fun to order (it is like getting a new car twice about 3 or 4 months apart). Generally, the ordered car can be (CAN being the operative word) sold to you for less money since there will be no "floor plan" costs to the dealer.

We ordered two new cars in the past 30 days and although the "wait is difficult" it is like the song "Anticipation."

The Infiniti dealer where I will be picking up my M35X says that the cars have been selling well and that they don't sit long on the lot -- he CLAIMS that the majority of the M cars he sells are ordered cars not inventory cars. He seems to have one of every flavor to demo, but a pretty lean inventory (perhaps 8 or 10 cars).

At the moment, when I ordered the car, the "rule" was to get the "Internet Price" I had to order one, that it would not be sold for the Internet Price if it was already in stock.

Maybe things are different now. I started the inquiry process in February, placed the order with the Internet on March 31. I assume it was placed at the next order window, which for Infiniti is once per month at the beginning of the month.

When we ordered a new BMW, the order went in on Monday, we made the deposit at the close of biz on a Friday.

Car companies hate this, but I think all cars should be ordered, not just taken off the lot (unless the lot has THE exact car.) Lots of folks seem to "take Black," (or whatever) even though they wanted some other color, for example. Or they will say, "it had this or that option on it, and I didn't really want it, but I took it anyway to be done with it."

My wife's favorite song is Frank Sinatra's "My Way." About the only way to get it my way is to order. Just allow about 4 months (just in case) and you'll be fine.

Hey, m35girl, what dealership are you working with and what city?
  • patpat Member Posts: 10,421
There isn't anything wrong with mentioning the name of the dealership here. Check the Rules of the Road linked at the top of the page for the specifics.

And btw, you don't need to post your email address. If you want folks to be able to see it, just make it public in your profile.

Since we are an online community, we'd really prefer that conversations that can benefit lots of people take place here rather than in email anyway. :)
  • kenm45sportkenm45sport Member Posts: 14
I bought off the lot but only because I found an M45 Sport with exactly the features, color, and trim that I was looking for. I first went to the Infiniti website and figured out what I wanted, then I started searching dealer inventories online. Infiniti has many dealerships in Southern California so there was a lot of inventory to choose from. I was extremely lucky that the exact car I was looking for was located just 10 miles away. Once I called them and confirmed it was still in stock, I went and bought it. No ordering, no waiting, and now I'm driving a great car.

Patience may be a virtue but it's one that I'm lacking. Waiting three months for my toy probably would have killed me.
  • mikestevensmikestevens Member Posts: 17
I tend to agree- I would just have a real hard time waiting several months for a new car, but I certainly understand the reasons for doing so.

BTW, a page or two of message ago, Pete gave a few links with reviews of the M, and I just wanted to point out that anyone who hasn't read the review from USAToday should---It is not just the most positive review I've read of the M, it may be the most positive review I've ever read of ANY car- I don;t know what this guy's credibility is like, but he is clearly in love with this his car (apologies to Queen :>0). Here's the link...

Its definitely unusual for a car to get so much praise ACROSS THE BOARD like the M has. Usually C&D has certain priorities, R&T has others, and Motortrend has still others, and usually their comparisons are all over the place. Not this time. Everybody loves this car. The only straggler was Automobile, and Im not really surprised there. Like Edmunds, the "sport" in sport sedan was clearly not what they were really looking for.
  • markcincinnatimarkcincinnati Member Posts: 5,343
The Infiniti dealer is a "national" dealership: they are in Denver, Nashville and Columbus. The dealer is called Infiniti4Less.

They are very helpful and they tell you what the deal is via email and/or telephone. The credit ap process is handled via Fax (no email worries about your Social Security #) and the deposit ($1,000) is a credit card read over the phone.

The pickup is perhaps the issue, since the pickup is in the three above named cities.

I suspect "things" change regularly -- the invoice price may have changed, the deal may have changed (for better or worse), etc.

Once you come to an agreement you will receive a fax of your order and it shows the final agreed upon price.

You can buy it, finance it or lease it -- there does not appear to be any selling going on with this program. The deal is the deal and the terms are the terms. Everyone agrees, signs off, so to speak via email and an approximate del date is given.

My intial human contact was with a sales rep who actually was in Denver. The final pickup point is Columbus and there is an Internet sales person who is my contact since I am not flying to either Denver or Nashville to retrieve my car.

Costco has good deals, the Internet has good deals, some geographies apparently are able to hold the line pretty close to MSRP -- unless you pay MSRP, whatever you end up with will be better than some deals and there will always be someone who beat your deal.

If you really want THE BEST DEAL, search this discussion line back 4 or 5 days and find the best price you can and if you can figure out how to get the car from the dealer that gave our fellow poster the deal you want, contact that dealer and make the offer and secure it with your deposit and an email and/or fax document.

    Infiniti4Less - that's it.
  • blov8rblov8r Member Posts: 567
Well stated, but I think there's yet another reason Infiniti hasn't had a chance to lead the pack; they've never established an identity. They're on their third distinct iteration of the Q-car while the first LS looks stunningly similar to the newest version. You can smell a Benz, a bimmer, or a Jag from two or three decades ago, but nothing Infiniti has today was there in the 90's. Even folks who aren't car buffs can recognize those other brands.

The universal praise the M has thus far received will help immensely, and people are being enticed to look ... and looking leads to buying. Unfortunately, as great as this car is and as much as I like it's eye appeal it's NOT sufficiently distinctly Infiniti to turn heads ... yet. There is, however, a very real family likeness with the G-cars and maybe that's the way they're heading. We'll see.

I was driving up to Newark Airport yesterday on the NJ Turnpike and saw an M from a distance- so I sped up (in my 2002 GS300) and found the guy doing maybe 55 in the left lane (that drives me CRAZY) What a waste if that guy has a car like that and is only driving 55. By the way- the car looked awesome.
Anyway, I was wondering if there's anybody out there from Jersey who has an M, and did you have to order it or were there enough to choose from the dealer. I'm going to get mine next month-thanks

In ordering cars so often, are you allowed to negotiate the price at all? Did you arrive at a price on the M35x at order time? My salesman told me that I can negotioate my final price when the car arrives, and that was my main reason for pulling the trigger now instead of waiting (also the AWD factor).
  • patpat Member Posts: 10,421
That's not a URL. And Mark can't give you one anyway - check the Rules of the Road I mentioned earlier (link at the top of the page).

Not much else I can say here, but it's not a mission impossible to find it ...

    :)

(Does "mission impossible" date me too clearly?? )
  • docnukemdocnukem Member Posts: 485
Mission Impossible only dates you if you can recognize Peter Graves picture. Remember, two movies came out in the last ten years based on the original (now that dates me). Who else was there besides Graves, Greg Morris, and (I think), Lesley Anne Downs (Martin Landau, too, maybe)?

Oh...I guess I have to throw in some reference to the M....I'll bet that they would love to use an M45 sport in a sequel.

After 3 weeks and 1400 miles I still can't stop grinning. My wife loves it. The Diamond Graphite, black interior + wood trim and window tint make it shine. Lot of compliments, even from MB and BMW owners. The M35 with journey pkg & Nav system are a perfect replacement for my 530i.
  • lexusguylexusguy Member Posts: 6,419
Yeah that is seriously not cool. I think the state highway patrols should instead pull people over for under-utilizing their cars. If it was a LeSabre, sure, let him do 40. The M should be at 70 minimum.

Have you noticed that your XM radio display looks like it cuts off after about 8 or 9 characters in the top right portion of the display? When I turn the dial and wait for the info to load I get about 15 dashes across, so I know the field is big enough, but when the info comes in, it is always cut off.

Other than that, and the occasional voice command miscue, I love this car. 35x, twilight blue, tech/journey. I work in a building in downtown Chicago with a valet lot in the basement. The guys have upgraded me into the spot of honor right up front by their booth. There are TONS of Lexus GS, BMW 300/500 and a fair share of Mercedes in this building.

The guys have said they have started to charge folks to look at my M.

I've only seen one on the road between downtown and the far west burbs.
  • markcincinnatimarkcincinnati Member Posts: 5,343
I did NOT say that was the URL. The last time I posted the URL, my post was deleted -- try dogpile or google. I can access the web site, FWIW -- but the URL was not in my prior post.
