Is there a way to view dealerships inventory of new vehicles. I have attempted to view them in Infiniti home page ( build and locate) however it does not display 2006 M.
You'd have to find the URL of the dealership's website and then check there. Some dealers have their inventory on line and some don't.
Let me remind you and everyone, though, that posting links to dealerships is not allowed, just in case anyone was thinking of sharing a URL with you. See the Rules of the Road (link at the top of the page) for the full details.
Bose products come from the heavens themselves, and thus are so divine that any attempts to measure them "conventionally" causes the microphones to explode.
Lexusguy,
Bose products are good, but you are dead on target with your cynicism. What's funnier yet, is their Wave Radio. I have one. Love it. But, there are absolutely no tone controls on it - no base, no treble, no nothing. Bose pre-sets the tone to the "correct setting" and if you don't like the way they set it, then you just ain't listening right.
Y'all, I think [rain sensing wipers] is one of the most over hyped features I've seen
FWIW, I agree. I had a 2003 Lexus with that feature. You could adjust the sensitivity. I never could get it right, no matter how I adjusted it. I was glad to get back to good old reliable intermittant wipers in my next car.
I guess it depends on the implementation. I had a 2000 Mercedes S430 with rain sensing wipers. There was no sensitivity adjustment, but they worked great. I miss this feature on my M45.
As a general rule no; the dealers won't/can't do it and the cost is too prohibitive at an aftermarket shop. I know others have asked this querstion regarding the Acura MDX and the Infiniti FXs.
I feel your pain!!!!!!! I just had my right front wheel chipped and scratched the same way a few days ago after having the only car a week. I'm sick about it. I've been investigating how to repair the wheel and it seems to be a very expensive repair. I know it's going to happen again no matter how careful one is trying to park. If one parks too far from the curb then there's the chance some idiot will bump the car and scratch the paint trying to park behind you. I'm going to try some aluminum wheel touch up paint for now and see how that works.
I traded in my G35 for the M35X and never had the wheel scratch problem on that car. Infiniti needs to come up with a better wheel design. The low profile tires look good but they also contribute to the problem I think. As a side note, I began looking at other cars for wheel chips just out of curiosity and it does seem to be a problem other cars with low profile tires like the BMW 7 series.
Still loving my 35x Premium. The color is the best I've had for looking good when a little dusty. (diamond graphite). Everyone who drives it, loves it. My big beef is the MPG is coming in around 16.5 for combined driving. What do I want to see in a future model besides better fuel economy? 6 speed trans, more seat controls for the passenger, a little more sound insulation, a cubby hole or two, power head rests, and power seat belt risers. I like it so much more than the '04 LS430 the preceeded it. The gadgets work so well and the car is still so much fun to drive.
I maimed my bumper to be legal. I'm in Illinois and we do sometimes get stopped and fined. My Illinois dealer did clear it with me, first. I'd like to know why my state likes front plates.
I beg to differ on the Bose system. I have been in the high end audio video business for 20 years and I have a good idea what good sound is. I love my M (with the premium package which includes the best system for the M) but the Bose system is typical Bose garbage lots of paper wizer cone speakers no real ampification and lots of gimmicks (i.e. CENTERPOINT and AUDIO PILOT - Gimme a break) It sounds ok - and I mean just ok with DVD-Audio but CD and Radio sound awful - poor base (not tight) music is all over the place no sound stage a big dissapointment imho. I took the car with the premium package becuase I was able to get the car at about 1500.00 over invoice. I leave the stereo low and listen to the exhaust note instead! Bose my friends is one of the best marketing companies on the planet!!
I agree and find the front plates galling. I used to live in IL and the fore and aft plates made me crazy. So many cars look cheapened with the front plate ... fortunately I had all of my Corvettes AFTER I left there. Quite a few states want both plates ... claiming it makes it easier for law enforcement to ID a car. I would probably heave my cookies if I had to drill holes in my M. Or my wife's GX. I'd like to know just how many times a FRONT plate has made a difference for law enforcement ... my guess is the number's insignificant.
I guess it depends on the implementation. I had a 2000 Mercedes S430 with rain sensing wipers. There was no sensitivity adjustment, but they worked great. I miss this feature on my M45.
You're right, it probably does depend on the implementation. I, however, didn't find Mercedes' implementation to be that great. I had it on my 2000 CLK430 Coupe and have it on my 2003 SL500 and neither of them work as intended. They almost always ran after the windshield was clear of moisture. It wouldn't be quite so annoying on the SL500 if it didn't sound as if the wiper blade was peeling off the top layer of glass.... this is after numerous dealer adjustments and blade replacements.
I've found you still have to turn it on and off so it basically defeats the purpose of having a device to sense moisture. Infiniti, save the money on the sensors. Intermittent wipers with speed sensitivity are just fine.
> ...but CD and Radio sound awful - poor base (not tight)...
One thing I noticed compared to a stereo (non-sorround) Bose on my ~6-yr old MB is that the M's equalization cannot seem to be customized per source, i.e. once you set the bass/treble to a certain level, the same level applies to DVD/CD/Satellite/FM/AM.
I continue to be very disappointed with the Sirius sound. Loaded four MP3 CDs into the changer and the sound is significantly better (more dynamic, with much wider bandwidth) than satellite's, regardless of whether the MP3 encoding rate is 128, 160, 192 or 256 kbps, CBR or VBR.
As a last-ditch effort, I will have Sirius send an initialization signal again to the receiver, as the number of music channels I can tune to fluctuates (!) from half a dozen to more than 20 depending on the phase of the moon. However, I will need the receiver ID code for that and when tuned to channel #0, the ID is being only partially displayed. Any idea on how I can read the entire code from the screen?
Apparently, Infiniti does not have all-season (i.e. mud and snow, made of rubber) floor mats for the M35x (I emphasize x here because the size of the center console may be different at the floor level between AWD and non-AWD models). Does anybody know of a good alternative source for such floor mats?
This should do the job. I prefer to use the mats, vacuum and spot when necessary. I have a small spotting machine. When they are shot I purchase new mats. Just my 2 cents.
I just purchased an M45 3 days ago, black on black, which was a chore to find in Southern California. So far I am really enjoying this car, more than the Lexus and Mercedes' that I have owned.
One thing that annoys me is that every time you turn the car off, then restart the car, the air conditioner does not come back on to the setting you had it, nor the termperature. You have to turn it back on, and reset it from 75 degrees to something you had on before.
I have searched the manual for days and cannot find out how to over-ride this annoying setting.
I have had a few bose systems over the years. The 2000 ML Bose had the woofer in the seat, and had great punch. This model did not have elevated tweeters, but the system was nice.
My 2001 E430 had much less "BASE", but the interesting thing was there was an opening near the side view mirror that looked like it would house a tweeter but it was port for the speaker lower in the door. While the bass was not great in that car, the imaging was excellent.
My 2003 Audi Allroad has a double woofer housing all the way in the rear and it being a wagon cannot do what a trunk cavity can with woofers installed in them. 4 tweeters, 4 I guess midrange all located in the doors do the job and the sound is nice. Good imaging, tweeter is a bit too close to the ears and sounds a bit UN-natural. Many people like that crisp sound, but I prefer a fuller sound. To each their own. My tone controls rarely turn up the treble.
Most factory radios are about imaging and spatital dispersion than what a custom system can do with better in the face components and greater power. Those systems are nice, and even better loud, but they they fail the one test which is having a good sound and able to have a conversation with passangers.
Low level quality is very important to me. I like to crank it, but how a system integrates with the ride experience as a whole is important.
This is where bose does a good job.
I love my Bose desk computer speakers cuz int he office I don't want a supwoofer!
I love my Bose (2 pair) of 251 outdoor speakers (yeah e-bay!)
The above products provide great CAUSUAL listening sound for me. I admire the wave radios for that purpose also.
No way in hell would I ever purchase a home system from them. This is where I draw the line because this is not were its causual at all! Their systems are nice as a consumer product to the causual purchaser of home theatre and bought into big the Bose Cache! They are easy systems to live with.
Conclusion: I want better sound in my cars but prefer the integrated less problematic and covered under warranty systems found in todays cars. I challange bose to do better! Its a compromise anyway you look at them.
Bottom line, everybody has different tastes in music, and how they like it to sound. There are no right and wrong when it comes to sound. If your happy, don't let anyone tell you otherwise!
One thing that annoys me is that every time you turn the car off, then restart the car, the air conditioner does not come back on to the setting you had it, nor the termperature.
I've not had that problem; stays where I left it. My only issue with the A/C is that voice commands don't change the fan speed --- only the temp. Another minor issue with the A/C is that it's a bit slow to chill the car here in the desert. Infiniti gave me a G35 when mine was in for an oil change last week and it cooled down MUCH faster than the M. I suspect the systems are the same, so it's likely due to duct positioning. The sales manager blamed it on the M being a bigger car, but I'm talking about immediate cooling of the driver directly out of the ducts on a 110 degree day. :shades:
Same thing happenned to me with all of 400 miles my M35X. Passenger side rear wheel. I don't even remember coming close to a curb. I ordered a new wheel from the dealer, $775!!! The parts guy said this is happenning alot because of the spokes stick out slightly. He said the new car department has a contractor that will come in and take the scratched wheel and grind it down and repaint it. Takes a day off the car and it costs $200. I ordered the new wheel anyway which takes about 2 days and will fix the damaged wheel. If this continues to happen I'll order new wheels from the Tire Rack when the tires need replacing. I'm glad I don't have the chrome wheels which must be close to $1,000.
I'd like to know why my state likes front plates. ... Quite a few states want both plates ... claiming it makes it easier for law enforcement to ID a car. ... I'd like to know just how many times a FRONT plate has made a difference for law enforcement ... my guess is the number's insignificant.
You ain't gonna like the real reason - at least in Texas. Cameras at red lights and toll booths. Without Front Plates red light cameras and toll booth cameras will not work. Also law officers can read plates in parking lots regardless of parking direction; front or rear facing.
Are you certain that is the reason in Texas? I live in Texas and purchased an M45 Sport back in March. All my cars have EZ tags, I only mount the front plate on my cars, 2002 Q45 and 2003 G35 Coupe.
When I got the new M, I got an EZ tag for it when I had the temp plates. I only recently called to give them the permanent plate numbers, at which point they indicated I had two outstanding toll fees where my EZ tag didnt read and they took a pic of the car and without the tag didnt know whose EZ tag to charge the two outstanding toll fees.
They indicated there are times when the EZ tag doesnt read properly and they use the pic of the car and license plate to match up the misread and charge it back to the right EZ tag. There were no outstanding tickets with my other two cars which only have rear plates, so the EZ tag pic must be from the back of the car only.
I dont think the cameras at stop lights have been implemented in Houston yet so perhaps that will raise an issue with my cars since I cant see marring the car with a front license plate. (I keep the plate in the trunk in case I ever am stopped, but I have been doing this for years and never been asked about it.)
I just buy new OEM mats every spring. They cost less than $100 online. The snow and mud mats look awful, never fit that well and were just as hard to clean. The clear covers remind me of plastic slip covers. Furget about it.
> I have searched the manual for days and cannot find out how to over-ride this annoying setting.
Could it be as simple as pressing the Auto button and adjusting the temperature while the engine is running--have you tried that? With Auto on, when the engine is switched off the settings should be retained till the next start. Otherwise, the system may assume you want a manual override mode and so it defaults to 75F upon restart.
When I use the voice command, the temp remains the same, but then fan considerably slows down until the command is recognized and processed, at which point the original settings (temp & fan speed) return to what they were. Also, make sure you use the seat A/C. May help...
Wow! Same thing with me, two scrapes on the edges of my M35X, not really noticeable to anyone but me but it drives me nuts, only had the car 2 months. I guess I'll see if my dealer can smooth 'em down as I really don't want to cough up 7 bills for a new wheel. How did the aluminum paint work out?
You guys have me scared! My skinny 19" wheels are a setup for a scrape; fortunately I almost never have to parallel park. Unfortunately, however, I'm always vertically or diagonally parking and that brings my front aero kit into harm's way. Just can't win for losing! But love this car. 3 1/2 months and nothing on my "to be adjusted/fixed" list. Had the same good fortune with my Q45.
Is anyone else noticing small nicks on the front nose of the car?I waxed my car inch by inch about a week ago and it was 100%. Now I see 2-3 small nicks ion the bumper area left and right of the plate. They are not bad, but I do not like them and don't want this to continue. anyone else have this issue?
After I park and get back into the car. My driver mirror is not adjusted.( 1 out of 5 times) I reset the position, reset the #1 set button yet it moved out of my setting every one and a while. Am I missing something?
Is anyone else noticing small nicks on the front nose of the car? They are not bad, but I do not like them and don't want this to continue. anyone else have this issue?
I've picked up a few nicks as well and they are not limited to the front nose. Unfortunately, while finishes seem to have become more resilient in some ways and certainly more rust resistant, the newer finishes seem to nick and chip more.
A friend commented on the nicks that I had picked up on my G35 Coupe and thought that it was a sign that Infiniti had done a poor job. I showed him my '03 MB SL500 and pointed out that it was every bit as bad. The SL500 is black and you can see every little white nick that shows up. The nicks and chips are even present on the roof of the car.
In contrast, I have an 87 MB sedan that has some paint imperfections and a little rust that has begun to peek out at a few spots but not a single chip on it to be found.
Other than a nose mask or a product such as 3M's transparent applique, which is not always as transparent as you'd like, I'd recommend keeping a paint stick handy. I find myself using it every month.
Thanks everyone for the input. It did turn out that it was a fuse they forgot to install when I bought the car. It is the same fuse that runs the analog clock, which I was wondering how to set!
Techno cars.
Anyone else notice the center console puts off a lot of heat?
My wife and I each have memory seat positions, hers being at the minimum distance to the steering wheel, mine the maximum. I also have programmed the setting so that the seat slides back when the car is turned off.
However, after the wife drives, it does not go back all the way. This makes it very difficult to get in. Also, I try pushing the memory seat button (for my position) but it does not work until the car is running. I have to get into the car and put my foot on the brake to get the car running, which is very difficult.
My current solution is to just move the seat back manually (i.e., pushing the seat adjustment button) so I can get into start the car, and then pressing my memory seat button for the final adjustments. Is there a better way?
yes, I have the same experience. I only have 250 miles on the car. have not had a chance to talk to a service dept yet. may be when I get back from a trip. It will be hard to have the problem show up when you want it to.
1)I assume that you have already programmed your keys to adjust the seat, etc. If not, instructions are in the manual.
2)Once the keys are programed, the car should recognize you and adjust automatically. One catch: You may have to lock the door using either the key or the button on the door handle and then unlock it for the car to activate the memory feature.
Yes, I think you are right. You will probably need to lock the car and then unlock it with the correctly programmed fob.
Without the lock/unlock cycle, the seats default to the last setting (which is why davido3 probably had to push the memory button with the car running to revert to the correct setting). I believe that the "unlock" signal also signals the seat/fob recognition.
Thanks to all.Our dealer called to have the clock replaced that did not work. My wife told them about the fuse. Now we have a clock and A/C that works just fine. Four guys at the dealer had their E-GO's crushed by a grandmother.
Go to the website and hit "Build and Locate". It's right there, really, you can't miss it...
I used it a couple days ago, and it would only give me one dealer, based on my zip code. You have to exit the web site and then come back in to change the zip code.
As with many prior Edmund's comparos, this one make very little sense:
1. How can the M35x come second to the 530x on engine performance? It was faster to 60 and faster in the quarter mile!
2. How can it come second on transmission when they describe the automatic on the M35x as "perfect". Oh wait, maybe they mean that a standard tranny is better -- but this comparo should compare like cars: only the Bimmer comes with a stick, the rest are all autos, and so autos should be compared.
3. What the hell does "visibility" measure? And how could the M possibly come last (and by a longshot)?!? I can see perfectly well out of my M35x, and the reverse camera is superb!
4. They continue to quibble with the interior quality of the M35x. What planet are they from? After complaining about how stark the BMW cabin is (which it is, dreadfully so), they rank the M35 last! It may be only my opinion, but I find the interior design and quality to be superior in the M than in the 5 and equal to the A6.
5. If the M is so "ponderous" as they say, why was it only 0.2mph behind the 530x through the slalom, which they perceive as being magically responsive on the road? Why did it brake to a stop in 11 fewer feet?
6. Perhaps they should proof-read their data. A number of tables call the M35x the G35x. Also, how can the M35 have the shortest time to the quarter mile, but have the slowest speed at the quarter mile?
It's almost as if they outcome was decided in advance and the "data" skewed to match up with that expectation. The problem is that people read this and believe it to be true.
All is back to normal on my car. The clock works, the air comes back at the preset temp when the car restarts, AND the mirror remote keys accepted the programming.
The car is truly magnificent. I drove the LA freeways home this evening, and the Map view was incredible. The stars above the horizon are just the right touch. So much better than the GS430 cheap view I had, and the non-view from my 3 past Mercedes. The console glow is perfect, the ride taught, the engine crisp. The GS430 was a sluggish beast, this Infiniti blows it apart.
Infiniti has done a great job on this car, inside and out.
Hope you are all enjoying your M's as much as I am............
I replied to you in the other discussion where you posted this, but for the benefit of folks reading this discussion I'll again point out that these thoughts can be directly addressed to Karl Brauer, Editor-in-Chief, over in the Karl's Daily Log Book discussion. I hope you or someone will follow up with Karl and then let us know how it goes.

I wonder why?

Has anyone actually put a drill bit against their front bumper and intentionally maimed their car in an effort to be legal?
How bad are the consequences in CA if you don't do this?
(I could no sooner put two drill holes in this car than wait 10,000 miles to change the oil)

2)Once the keys are programed, the car should recognize you and adjust automatically. One catch: You may have to lock the door using either the key or the button on the door handle and then unlock it for the car to activate the memory feature.
Without the lock/unlock cycle, the seats default to the last setting (which is why davido3 probably had to push the memory button with the car running to revert to the correct setting). I believe that the "unlock" signal also signals the seat/fob recognition.

Shameful
The car is truly magnificent. I drove the LA freeways home this evening, and the Map view was incredible. The stars above the horizon are just the right touch. So much better than the GS430 cheap view I had, and the non-view from my 3 past Mercedes. The console glow is perfect, the ride taught, the engine crisp. The GS430 was a sluggish beast, this Infiniti blows it apart.
Infiniti has done a great job on this car, inside and out.
Hope you are all enjoying your M's as much as I am............
