Have a 6cyl diesel . Starts fine in the morning. But if it sits in the hot sun for 3 or 4 hours it will crank but only start on the 2nd try. Any ideas?

Lots of possibilities, but one that comes to mind is that the pressure in the fuel rail is bleeding down, requiring the fuel pump to pump all the way from the gas tank once again. So you might test this with a fuel pressure gauge to verify a possible issue with your fuel pressure regulator.

Would be good to scan the car for error codes.
