Edmunds puts the TMV price at $19,232 and Carsdirect has it for $19,253, so both seem very close to the deal you're being offered.
I just bought the same vehicle (Mazda3 s Touring 5-door) except I got the 5-speed manual and no additional options. I was able to get mine for $556 under invoice and that was the driveout price including the dealer's $399 prep fee.
The price I got lead me to believe that there MUST be some manufacturer to dealer incentive on the car at the moment. This same dealer had s 5-door (base, non-Touring) in the newspaper for $15,998 manual and $16,998 automatic. To sell at those prices, they have to be making some money somewhere on them.
I would keep soliciting price quotes from dealers. That's how I ran across mine. I went to the Mazda website, searched inventory and requested a quote on every single vehicle I could find that met my specs. I couldn't find any here in Atlanta, so I expanded my search up to about 200 miles. It paid off quite well. I'd suggest you do the same.
Just out of curiousity, what color(s) are you wanting? My first pick was Winning Blue but that proved impossible to find. I got the Titanium Gray and I'm very happy with it.
1% over invoice sounds fair -
$200 advertising fee - Mazda charges this to the dealer ON THE INVOICE - so it must be correct
$239 conveyance fee (or as I would call it a rip off added on for no reason fee)
Add it all up and I get $639 over invoice!
1% of invoice is about $200 + $200 + $239
$639 over invoice is not a good deal - not on a Mazda3 in its 3rd model year - with so many other choices out there.
I agree that judging from your deal, there must be some factory to dealer incentive.
I'm looking for velocity red. Second choice is winning blue . It looks good in gray, but we have a gray car now so I'm tired of that color. The new copper red is nice too. Looks like the old 60's candy apple red.I saw a picture of it on the internet.
There don't seem to be many in velocity red cars with my options. The sun roof package is less common than I would have imagined. Most 3's seem to be without it.
I'll keep shopping.
Maybe I'll just offer $500 less. If they take off $500 I could be happy.
Thanks to all for your input. You've already saved me money and I haven't even spent any yet.
Normally I would consider that to be too high, but there are two things that make it difficult for me to push harder. 1. he let us keep a 5MT car over the weekend which helped our decision greatly, and 2. I have the Mazda live coupon which will make the price effectively $50 over invoice.
What do you guys think?
Letting a customer take a car over the weekend really is a good thing - for both customer and dealership.
Gives the customer a chance to test the car and make a better decision -
Gives the dealership an edge on pricing + increases the chances that if you buy the car you tested - it will be from the dealership that let you take a 2 day test drive.
It would be hard to tell the sales guy - I found the same car for $65 less across town - and since this car now has 150 miles on it (all from your test drive) I will go over and buy my "NEW" car from them. There is a word for someone that does this - but if I use it my post will be deleted!
But - is the test drive worth $150? $250? $450? $750? At what point is a cold hard cash discount worth more than the good will the dealership gave you by letting you keep the car over the weekend? That is something that you must determine for yourself.
If you really want to get their attention - tell them you loved the 2 day test drive so much - that you want to go see if - Chevy will let you take a Cobalt - or Ford will let you take a Focus - or who ever will let you take whatever for a 2 day test drive. Or they could sell you this car right NOW for $300 over invoice (before rebate).
I would be nice and at least give them a chance to sell you the car at a lower price - before you go test drive other cars.
I agree I should be able to do better. The other thing is though, the car we had over the weekend is NOT what we want, and they are doing a dealer trade with another dealer that's 80 miles from here. This they claim adds $200, (as far as I know it's more like $100, but oh well) on top of the Fitzmall quote ($300 over invoice with their $99 fee) that I showed him, which equates to ~$500 over.
I am going back there tonight to sign the paperwork. Should I push harder? Plus I have not mentioned anything about the coupon yet, partly because I just got it from someone. Should I? Also, should I expect to put non-refundable deposit due to the dealer trade?
Thanks guys for the help.
I do recall a few times where the sales person gave me a price and then added - this price INCLUDES ALL manufacturer discounts / rebates. Kind of a catch all statement - to cover themselves. I did not let the dealership pull this - I just said - give me the price and show me the manufacturer discount / rebate as a reduction so I know what I am getting. Problem solved.
I really do not like to pay a dealership extra money because they do not have the car I want (including color + options) the way I look at it - finding the car and getting it to their lot is 100% the dealerships responsibility. Is it MY problem that they don't have the correct inventory?
I would be nice about it -
It always comes down to - is the extra time you spend getting a lower price worth it. Spend 25 hours trying to grind another $100 off the price - most would say - not worth it. Spend an extra hour and get a $300 savings - most would say its time well spent.
>Did they give you a copy of your sales contract that is SIGNED by a person (sales manager) - in other words not just the dealership's name typed in the space where they should sign?
Look at your contract - some have a statement in them that say - "the deal is not complete for 14 days after the date of the agreement or something like that - gives the dealership extra time to "change the terms of the sale" the main thing they will change is the interest rate.
It is Tuesday - you bought the car on Saturday - that is 2 business days (Monday and Tuesday)to get the loan done - more than enough time.
Call them tomorrow and tell them you want this sale completed NOW - Find out why it is taking so long - if they can't stand behind the deal - including the financing - then you will just return the car.
That should get their attention -
If they give you any problem - like if they say something like - give us a few more days - we can't find anyone to take the loan - then
Go get financing from a bank or Credit Union - then tell the dealership that they need to get the deal done - or you will use the bank to finance your car.
First, Does anyone have any first-hand experience with getting the dealer-installed Sirius in their MZ3? Do they simply need to add a tuner, or do they also have to add an antenna or anything else?...The brochure says it requires the satellite radio receiver accessory kit. I know most satellite-ready cars just need the tuner, and the antenna is already built in, so just checking.
Also, how is the leather in the GT? Does it feel pretty nice, or is it crappy?
Finally, a more stupid question....does the 3 have the neat little retractable key like the 6 does?...i took a test drive and didn't even notice the key since the salesman had it in already!
My final decision is between the 3s GT w/moonroof&bose, or the 6s sport with the same package. They're within $500 of eachother after the "S plan" discount and the zoom zoom coupon, so it's purely a preferential decision at this point and I can't decide!!!
MSRP: $18,575
edmunds.com invoice: $17,341
TMV: $17,926
our price: $17,800 ($459 over) - $500 zoom zoom live coupon = $17,300 ($41 under)
Overall we feel that we could probably do better by a couple hundreds, but in light of the fact that our sales guy has been very helpful and honest, (which was a first) we decided this was good enough. In the end, we are happy to pay invoice and still get an exact car we wanted.
While I can't find any incentives or specials on the Mazda3 listed on the internet, there is obviously some sort of incentive to dealer for them to sell me the car at over $500 under invoice. I didn't even have to haggle that much for the deal. They had '06 s 5-doors listed in the newspaper for $15,998 manual and $16,998 automatic (and multiples at that price, not just one stock number).
Anyway, my point is that there are some good deals available right now on the 3. I'd STRONGLY suggest you search inventory at Mazda dealers as far away as you're willing to go to find the specific car you want. When you do, email the dealer for a quote on every one you find. You might get lucky. FYI- I drove over 200 miles one way to get the car and deal I wanted. If you get a quote better than the one you've already gotten, take it to your dealer and see if he'll match or beat it.
Good luck. Don't be too rushed to make a decision, although I know the coupon expires on 12/31. By the way, the 5-speed manual is DEFINITELY the way to go!
The key- no, it's not a retractable key. Does the 6 really have one of those? My friend has an '05 6 s and I didn't think his had that, but I could be wrong. Anyway, the 3 has a regular key and separate remote. One of the biggest complaints I've heard is from sedan owners because the remote doesn't have a function to open the trunk. In the 5-door, that isn't really an issue since unlocking the doors unlocks the hatch as well.
Leather- I test drove one with leather and it wasn't bad at all. I'm just not much of a leather person and found the red/black checked cloth upholstery more to my liking.
Good luck with your choice. I'd have a tough time making a call on that one! Is it an '05 6 s you are considering as well as the 3 s GT?
My biggest hang up on getting either at this point is still the reliability issue. I know any car can end up being a dud, but I would just hate to go with Mazda if there's a higher likelihood of dealing with problems than if I went with a good old reliable Accord, which I know from experience to be a reliable car....I have one, my girlfriend has one, her parents have one, and my family had one!.....and so far so good (knock on wood!) Can someone that's had an MZ3 or MZ6 for a few years comment or shed light on what your experiences have been with reliability??
And, is it easier to just have the dealer install the Sirius for me? It seems like a pain the in butt, especially since I'd be tearing apart a brand new car to do it myself. What does the dealer charge for parts+installation?
The antenna is not installed. It's part of the sirius package. I installed mine myself - it's real easy to do even if you don't have much car stereo experience. I believe they are now being offered as port installed options which would be much cheaper than buying a kit from the dealer and having him install it (if you didn't want to do yourslelf). Ask around and see if any cars are coming in with it already installed
I'm going to be buying SOMETHING in January/February--not 100% sure what yet, but probably an auto Mazda3 S 5-door, if I can fit my bike into the back of it.
Have any of y'all with a 3 hatchback put a road or hybrid bike into the back, with the seats down? I'm aware that I'll need to take the front wheel off, but I was wondering if it would fit in there.
I was a little nervous about buying a different kind of car, but test drives of the Mazda3 really won over. At least as far as knowing I enjoyed driving it more than any competitors (Honda included). Consumer Reports, JD Power and various sites that allow owner reviews convinced me that the Mazda3 is also a reliable choice. While only time will tell, initial quality does give me a good sense of security in my decision.
Good luck.
The way it looks, I'll be financing ~$19,500 OTD on a car with an MSRP of $22,515.
I'm also probably going to have the dealer install the sirius because I don't feel like dealing with the hassle of tearing apart a brand-new dash and breaking or scratching it up. I'm just not sure where they generally position the tuner and the antenna.
Finally, what's the best finance rate I can expect from Mazda on a 60-month loan?...I'm assuming we'd qualify for the best rate.
Do you still have that zoom zoom coupon? I've been speaking with my dealer and the way I see it they're trying to charge me $655 over invoice. "It's the best they can do". I'm not the best negotiator so this would definitely help. Gone?
Thank you...!
Tien
If you can't find a coupon anywhere else, try ebay....you can buy a zoom-zoom tshirt and "get the coupon free". It might run you 25-50 dollars, but it's worth it to get the discount. Just ask the seller to priority ship it.
As for those wondering about reliability, I have had both Honda Accords and Mazda Proteges before and the edge in reliability for me goes to Mazda. The overall reliability ratings for Mazda are pulled down by the 6 (esp. former 626). The GLC, Protege and 3 have been outstanding. My only complaint about the 3 now is a rattle from the glove box.
For your reference, I bought my 3 s Touring 5-door about two weeks ago and paid $16,500 OTD for a car with a sticker of $18,175 and invoice of $17,283. So, I got the car for $783 UNDER invoice.
I can't find any published incentives for the 3, but there obviously has to be some for the dealer to sell one that much below invoice. I'm sure it has something to do with their Mazda On The Move sales event.
Have you tried emailing other dealers to get a quote? I contacted as many dealers as I could find and bought from the one who gave the best deal.
Good luck!
Edmunds just posted a comparison test of the '06 Civic EX and '06 Mazda3 GT. Guess who won!!!
Take a look-

I said bag it and put a down payment on a factory order at my local Mazda dealer. They were the lowest anyway. $19,995. I test drove it and liked it but I'm no Lemans'(sp?) driver so I just said I need a new car and I don't want a Civic or Corolla. The only thing I'm stressing about is after reading knee room and front console issues I'm like yeah you're right! I like the car and don't really spread eagle while driving but like to stretch. What do you guys think since you guys seem to be car enthusiasts. Thanks for the replies and offers for a rebate!
I may be in the minority, but I've always liked cars with a full console between the seats that meets the dash console. My old '92 Accord was like that and it just looks better to me. The new Civic does have a lot of legroom, but the Sedan had less rearward seat travel than my Mazda3. Basically, to fit comfortably into a Civic, I'd have been forced to get the Coupe not Sedan. That didn't work for me. I'm very pleased with my decision.
So far, I'm loving this car. Too bad it's my fiance's and she gets it the majority of the time. When I do have a chance to drive it, though, it's great. There are definitely plenty of v6's out there that would be more exciting, but for a 4-cylinder, it's got some pick-up. I test drove a TSX a little while before buying this, and I didn't notice any difference whatsoever.
I'm still amazed by the features on this car! The automatic wipers work great, the adjustable headlights look sharp, and all of the electronic gadgets make this car a steal! I'm hoping to make an appointment to get the Sirius installed sometime in the next week or two. Does anyone know if this is ever offered at a discount?? I have a friend with an Audi A4 that got the dealer-installed XM for half-price. Does Sirius/Mazda ever have specials like this?
In summary, there's really no disappointments with this car so far!...Anyone buying or planning to buy one won't be disappointed.
In addition, Mazda does not offer roof rails or mud flaps for the tires. Any suggestions on what may work best.
Thanks!!

ZOOM ZOOM!!!
Through my company, I can buy the car through the Partner Recognition Program (S-Plan). I spoke with the dealership to see what offer I would receive under the plan. I was told the plan would get me the car AT DEALER INVOICE PRICE!
Could someone tell me if that's a good deal or should I try to work them down. I've been reading past messages stating people are getting their Mazda's below dealer invoice.
Need some insight...
Like I said, I'd try to get it for invoice. I'm not sure what (if any) direct to dealer incentives are in effect right now. I bought my s 5-door in mid-December and got it for $564 UNDER invoice.
Just curious, have you located a vehicle that meets your specs? I'm just wondering if you've been able to find an ABS equipped i model.
Here's what I suggest you do to get the best price- go to the MazdaUSA.com website and search for every car within 150 miles (max search distance) that meets your specs. Email the dealer for a quote on every one of them. That's how I ended up with such a good deal on mine. I emailed about 20 dealers and it paid off quite well. I had to drive almost 200 miles to pick it up, but well worth it.
Good luck!
Thx.
Good luck.
one of the dealers is asking for $21,000 + TTL for this, does it seem like a decent deal ?
thx!
I just bought a new '06 Mazda3 grand touring hatchback (stick) with the Bose/moonroof and moonroof deflector.
I did the multiple dealer email thing and the best price I received was:
Price: $20,149
MSRP: $21,110
Invoice: $19,683
TMV: $20,562
I was trying to work it lower, but quickly found out that each of the three dealers in question were giving quotes on the same 3 cars. Apparently the GT hatch with manual is pretty rare in my area. Each dealer planned on getting me to commit and then get the car from the dealer who had it.
Anyway, only one dealer would come down below $20,600, so I bought it from that dealer. No hassles, no high pressure. The email negotiation scheme is great.
Soory for the long post.
I'm not sure if this combination is popular so they don't keep them in stock, or rare because there is not much demand for it.
I am happy with the car. Sorry you can't find on in your area...
