I just noticed the fold a cover, it looks nice and is fairly priced. Please let us know how you like it, I think I am going to buy one also. My only question is how easy is it to completely remove? The fold cover works with the utili-trac? How much did you pay, I saw $499?

my truck is white and I do not see a difference yet. Look into 3M's Clear Bra to protect the paint from chips. It looks really great and I am thinking about adding it to protect my truck when I go to the snow.

The model for the 2005 Frontier is just now starting to be produced and I was given a 2 to 3 week delivery date as there are not any in stock yet. The cost I was quoted was
$699 plus $50 for installation. I don't know if the difference in price is because of the model or the local dealer doing a little gouging.

From the looks of the small model they had in the showroom at the local dealer it
did not look difficult to remove. I did not get the weight of the unit so I am not sure if one person can do it by himself.

The web site, www.foldacover.com states that some of the utilitrac has to be removed to
install it on the Titan. The local dealer called Foldacover and he was told that it would fit on the 2005 Frontier leaving the utili-trac in position. Redesign of the unit may account
    for the difference in price.

When mine comes in and is installed I'll post the results here on the forum.

    Thank you for your interest.

I had the Expel clear film on my Miata, but it is difficult to get a good installation
on irregular surfaces. If the radii are too sharp the film tends to release after a per-
iod of time. There are also some that complained of the film yellowing over time.

I had mine on my BRG Miata for almost 4 years and I never noticed the yellowing although that would probably be more apparent on the white than on the dark green on my Miata.

Thank you for you information and if I can find a local installer that will guarantee me
a good job I would definitely be interested in doing this.

    Hi,

I have a factory order in for a LE CC 4x2. Anxiously awaiting, in the meantime, can anyone relay what functions are on the multi-function trip computer?

Also, do the rear windows go all the way down on a cre cab?

    thanks for any info.!
  • ricceesriccees Member Posts: 24
Let's see ... A and B trip odometers, Average MPH (speed), Average MPG (gas mileage), Elapsed time, DTE (distance to empty), ... anything I missed?

Yes, the rear passenger windows will open all the way down.

I called Foldacover yesterday and they assured me the Foldacover will fit without any
interference problems with the utili-trac system. They were not sure of the weight of the unit for the Frontier, but it would be between 49 and 53 pounds. From the pictures
on their web site the unit should release just by opening the latches at both ends and folding it up.

that sounds perfect for my needs. Are you ordering directly from the company? Thanks for the info.

Might look at Advance Cover as an alternative to Foldacover. It can be opened and closed without a key or locked when needed. Also pokes down into the box a bit shorter. Otherwise it's pretty much the same thing, just a little difference in how the side rails work.

Where'd you see $499 for foldacover? Best I've found on Advance Cover is at carmicdirect.com, $515 + $39 shipping. It's not listed on the site because it's new, but they can get 'em.

    Jeff,

I am going through a local dealer, Malibu's in Moore, OK. I don't think that Foldacover
will sell direct to the public. When I called them they gave me a list of the dealers in my area.

WWW.peragon.com shows a folding bed cover at $499. They have a nice web site and seem to be very honest with their answers to FAQ's. They show the cover unit to weigh 35# while the Foldacover unit I ordered weighs from 39# to 53# depending on
what truck you own. The Foldacover unit has 4 folds and the Peragon unit appears to have 6 folds.

I'll have to go to the Advance cover site to see what it looks like.

Has anyone heard when the chrome door handles and chrome outside mirrors will be
available for the '05 Frontier? I painted my mirrors and front bumper on my '05LE KC
to match the white on my truck, but I was advised not to paint the door handles by the paint shop.

The dealer I purchased the truck from had these items painted for me and also said
they would let me have the chrome door handles at their cost when they became a-
    vailable.

I was given a 2003 Frontier KC as a loaner while they were painting the pieces on
my truck. The black door handles had already started to discolor. The same is true
of the 2000 Frontier I just sold. I kept the 2000 under a carport and used a plastic
protectant on the handles, but they faded anyway.

I rechecked a google search and can't find the $499, sorry. I think it was the peragon (should have made it a favorite on my internet explorer, but can't find it). Now they don't list 05 Fronty, but I haven't called. I would love to hear about any differences with any folding covers (advance, peragon, foldacover vs generic). It looks like under $600 for a hard cover, less than 60lbs, that folds or lifts. I think this is reasonable.

I think you're about right on the under $600 including shipping. Foldacovers are available via the internet, even tho foldacover.com doesn't mention any online dealers.

I pretty much considered all of these 18 months ago when I bought a 2003 Sonoma. Wound up with an advance cover for a few reasons and have been pretty happy. Advance and folda both basically sit on top of the truck box. Folda has an L-shaped side rail that mounts above the bed side and then the cover sits on and between these side rails. Advance uses a plastic molding and a rubber seal that the cover sits on. They're both the same material, a sandwich of black painted aluminum crinkle stuff with foam filling and painted metal frames held together with rubber covered piano hinges. If you look at pictures of both, you'll see that they both have lock hardware that sticks down underneath. Advance has levers and key lock cylinders so if you don't lock it you can just open with the lever. Both close automatically with "slam latch".

I've liked my advance pretty well, much better than my previous truck's Access Cover rollup, but would mention about a few things which might well apply to folda too. It's plenty secure for me, on the Sonoma it also locks the tailgate. Pretty good waterproofing but after a good downpour there's usually some water in the corner. I wouldn't drive around in monsoon season with a load of fine furniture without some plastic wrap. Mine was installed over bed caps and a York LoadLoc bedliner. I have had a bit of trouble with the plastic molding shifting on top of the bed caps. If I do this again I may follow their installation tip for SportTracks, which is to get some flat head screws of just the right length and use them to screw the molding to the bed caps in 3 or 4 places. Same for the 1/4 round rubber piece at the back corners.

I think 60 lbs is way more than the cover weighs when you remove it. Mine feels just a bit heavier than the tailgate. Remember, tho, that it's a bit unwieldy with the latch hardware sticking out on both sides. If you're going to remove it and haul it around in the cab, I'd wrap it in a heavy blanket at least.

Have never seen a Peragon in person. From the photos, it looks like it sits on rails that clamp alongside of the box top so it's flush with the box. Looks nice that way but will most likely be a bit less waterproof and allow less cargo height. All the same, if they make one for Frontier that'll fit above the Utilitrack, I'd look pretty hard at it because it does seem a bit more durable and possibly easier to remove.

Another choice could have been the Undercover or STK ProCover, both molded plastic liftup hard tonneaus that would be around 50lb. Too bad they don't make 'em for Frontier.
  • jmsd1jmsd1 Member Posts: 20
I emailed Peragon and they said that they have NO plans to make a cover for the new Frontier. I was hoping to combine the Peragon cover with the TracRac system, so I would have a cover and a rack. Pace Edwards says that they are working on the Jackrabbit cover with their rack system and should have one for the Frontier shortly. This truck is so new that all the aftermarket guys are in the design stage. Hopefully with enough emails they will produce some good stuff. I'm trying to be patient to see what comes out this summer.

    TJ,

Good post, I will be sure to tell my installer of the Foldacover I have on order to be
sure that it does not move around. The installer has not told me how they will secure the Foldacover, but I hope there are no issues with the unit once it is installed.

I'll post results when it has come in and been installed.

I have a 05 SE CC. There is a rattle noise in the engine at 2200 rpms. I took it to the dealer and informed them about the TSB on this. They checked and said my truck doesn't apply to this TSB. To make a long story short, I have been to the dealer a few times and contacted Nissan Customer Service about this. Both NCS and my dealer's service mgr. say the rattle is a characteristic of this engine. I don't think so. Any replies on how your engine sounds would be great. Thanks!
  • millarmillar Member Posts: 17
    Vuch-

I have the same rattle at 2200 rpm, particularly when the engine is cold. I have not yet been in for my first service, but I plan on having them look at it at that time. The invoice date on my 05 LE CC was mid January, so it's not clear to me if the build date was before the cut off when the problem was supposedly fixed. I did mention it to the dealer before I took delivery, and was told by the dealer that everything was fine. It's clear that it is not fine, but it's actually a fairly minor annoyance at this stage.

this bothers me since I don't I really want to buy 05 now with all the little probs. now,I really counting on the 06 too get all the bugs out now,I just don't want to be a Test driver after i buy it and be one of the guys telling everyone that this is bad that has a noise this sound not right, etc etc.
thoe Nissan has been good to me but this truck has some bugs to work out,its better then the Toy I must say,now they have more prob's then us.

I have an 05 Frontier CC LE automatic. After about 600 miles I notice a rattle either under the dash or the firewall. Noise comes from behind the steering column. The noise is louder when the engine is cold, and when I shift to drive or reverse. The vehicle was produced in April 05. Other than this problem, the truck is great.

    Any help would be appreciated.

The dealer is giving you the “run around” I took my truck for the same knocking they checked the TSB and ordered the part and installed it, but the truck still knocks.
  • centralcalcentralcal Member Posts: 215
just under the dash on the left is a metal bracket that was rattling when I first got mine. You just have to adjust it a little. Also, the ac line coming in was causing some noise, my dealer fixed at first oil change.

Does anybody know someone that has the Nissan hard tonneau cover for the 05 Frontier that you can get from the Nissan dealer? I'm looking at buying that cover, but I would like to get some opinions from some owners. I just got my 05 Frontier CC LE this week. Love it!
Courtesy auto parts is the only site that I've seen to offer the hard tonneau cover. It sounds like it might take some work to get that cover delivered. It's a little pricey also, but if it is of good quality and fit I'll pay for it. I don't want junk.
I think that type of cover would blend in well with the roof rack.
Would also be willing to drive to a dealer that was close to Northwest Ohio and check one out.

check message 988 and then forward. just talked about some different options. What is can find is about 5 major options. 1. Soft top, multiple varieties. 2. Fiberglass cover. 3. Truck cap (I think snug top has one) 4. Folding covers (I would put Nissan's in this category, it is the most $ of the ones I have seen) 5. retractable covers

All have pluses and minuses. I am going with a folding cover. Prabably fold-a-cover. I like the retractable ones, but does use up a some space in the front of the bed (and the bed is fairly small anyway in the CC). These appear to be pretty easy to put on, take off. Not too heavy. Not water tight, but will keep most of the elements off you things. I have seen some pictures of a couple of soft tops installed and they look nice. The dealer had some hard covers which I really like. I personally don't like the painted fiberglass ones, too monochromatic for me. Good luck
  • bricker1bricker1 Member Posts: 11
I agree with you on the fiberglass covers and I will check out 988.
    Thanks for your reply.

Can you please tell me what dealer this is?
  • 2005lekc2005lekc Member Posts: 145
    Bricker,

You can view the Foldacover bed cover at www.Foldacover.com. They are a little pricey, but that is the one I decided on. I chose it because it is fairly water resist-
ant, you can lock it thus securing your utili-trac system, and it is light enough that
I can remove it whenever I haul something to large to fit otherwise.

I was going to get an American Roll Top as it is a little more water resistant, but it
would not work with the utili-trac system in place. It was also $200 dollars higher
    in cost.

My Foldacover should be in next week or the first part of the week after. The '05
version is just now being released and is a little back logged right now.

I'll post my feelings on it once I get it installed.

On the driver's side door jam is a sticker with info on it. That sticker has the build date of your Fronty on it.

I have a Frontier 05 LE 4X2, and log 2K miles on it when all of a sudden my check engine soon light comes on. I went to my dealer to have it check and was told that my cateletic converter has gone bad. Anyone having this kind of issue with thier 05 Nissan Frontier 4x2?. Your help is much appreciated. :confuse:
  • jason0820jason0820 Member Posts: 21
Have a base '05 Frontier XE 4x2 with the 4 cylinder engine, and have noticed that the automatic transmission occasionally doesn't want to upshift when going up inclines/hills from 3rd gear, with the engine revving up past 4,000 RPMs in the 2 or 3 times this has happened.... made me somewhat concerned.
Don't know if this is normal for this trans, as I know that it is designed to automatically downshift when going down hills.
Any input or info. on this??

After much searching, I took a chance and purchased (off Ebay) a new TORZA Top tonneau cover for my 2005 King Cab SE, for $350 US. It is a soft 3 section folding cover, completely self-contained with aluminum struts built in, and it folds to the front, or removes in 20 seconds when I need to haul my motorcycle. It weighs about 25 pounds, and is easy and quick to remove or install, with 4 hand adjustable clamps. It appears well built. My only concern is that the heavy duty vinyl covering may not flex/fold that easily when winter and our minus 30 degree temps arrive. Other than that, it looks good and suits my needs (and pocket-book ) better than any others I found.
  • waggwagg Member Posts: 5
I've put 3,000 miles on my 2005 V6 King Cab 4x4 to date, and have these observations:

Great engine, tight body, good looks, and basically a sporty little truck. I even like the dash a lot, which some testers have ran down as plasticky. Have they looked at the Canyon or Colorado (heh, heh) ?

I do have a few concerns though, those being :

    1. Steering......fairly heavy, but very sensitive, and it will wander unsettlingly at highway speeds. The dealer has checked alignment, made an adjustment, but to no avail. I'm wondering if this may be a fault of the factory "General Grabber AW" tires ? I've also experimented with tire pressures from 35 to 40 pounds, with no improvement. I'd really appreciate any suggestions that might help.

    2. Paint.......my truck is silver, and I am anal about protecting it, but the clearcoat seems to scuff/scratch from the slightest touch (i.e. having a soft rubber garden hose run along the box edge when washing down the bed).
Also, I never drive on anything but paved roads, and the paint in front of the lower rear fenders is already chipping badly. Nissan made a grave error by not installing a large enough clear protective cover in that area.

    3. Heater........only the owners in northern cold winter climates may notice this, but there is an ice-cold draft that comes up and out from under the steering column onto your legs when driving on the highway in winter. My wife does not like this at all. It appears Nissan has a seal in the firewall with a design that funnels outside cold air up the steering column. Hopefully Nissan will have a cure for this before next winter.

I know several people have posted what their real world gas mileage ratings are. I'd be very interested in seeing that continue. It seems I've been shopping for months now and still haven't pulled the trigger. Gas mileage being a big concern for me.

So if you have updates, please post them. Also, please include your trucks configuration: 4x2/4x4, KC/CC, etc.

    Thanks much!

My fan (I think its my fan...intermittent) is also making a noise...it sounds like a pencil touching a plastic fan but my dealership says that that is probably going to be a standard noise....do you have the part number for the fan that they replaced so that I can point them in the right direction?
  • bobjazbobjaz Member Posts: 3
Have a noise in my dash also.....sounds like a pencil touching a plastic fan at a very low rpm.....only hear it in the morning when engine is cold and only when I am in reverse or drive (diminishes when I put it in neutral).....I wonder if it could be something with the transmission??? Dealer has documented it but Nissan hasn't issued anything so their hands are tied....go figure....If a tree falls in the forest does it make a sound if Nissan wasn't there to hear it?????

05 Frontier CC SE 4x4 V6 Man Trans.

Just updated my numbers this morning.

In 4434 miles of mixed driving, I have averaged 18.38 MPG.

Best Tank Milage was 20.23 MPG (All low speed highway, 65 MPH max)

Worst Tank Milage was 16.55 MPG (All in town driving)

Most tanks, mixed driving, are running between 18 and 19.

I have a 2005 Frontier king cab nismo 4x4 auto. 2900 miles on it. I drive easy with a combination of city and freeway. mostly city however. probably 70/30. The following are my real miles per gallon for my last 6 fillups. 13.56,14.19,14.51,14.1,12.92,13.33 - I have been to the dealer for an oil change and checked the computer, oxygen sensor etc. Everything is within specs. I love the truck, but my gas mileage stinks. Going broke in San Diego at 2.69 per gallon premium.
  • jmsd1jmsd1 Member Posts: 20
how did the foldacover turn out. did they have to remove any of the util-track ?
  • ricceesriccees Member Posts: 24
Your gas mileage will probably get better as you put more miles on it. Wonder what mileage you'll get on just freeway driving.
BTW, you don't have to use premium; just regular gas works just fine.
  • severesevere Member Posts: 10
Ouch! I was hoping the Frontier would beat the sticker estimates by 1 or 2 mpg but you're on the other side of the EPA. For those numbers you could be in a Titan. I hope your numbers are not normal for a Nismo since that is the exact truck I'm shopping. The other numbers looked pretty respectable.

Keep'em coming folks. I'd like to see how they compare.
  • mtbxcmtbxc Member Posts: 3
I was in same boat as you, wondering what real-word gas mileage would be. After much research, I finally pulled trigger by placing a factory order for a LE CC 4x2. Then I ultimately pulled out of the deal before the vehicle was even due to be made and went with a new CR-V EX (totally different vehicle, admittedly). From my findings, I believe the Frontier was just as good or better MPG than Ridgeline, Taco, Dakota and maybe a whisker behind Colorado. Plus the regular gas, to me, was a big factor over a Taco.

Gas mileage was number one factor that I backed away from the deal. But, there were other factors in my case.

By the way, for anyone considering purchase in northern DE, southeastern PA, northeastern MD, I can highly recommend a dealer to you who was more than fair to me in the whole process and was selling at Edmunds invoice price.

I still kind of wish I had that Frontier ;-)

The utili-trac system does not have to be altered at all to use the Foldacover. I like the
fit of it and the look of it. The only complaint I have is that it is a little hard to fold it up
completely from the ground. The back section is easy enough, but to fold the three on top of the front section is a little difficult for me.

That may well be because I am only 5' 7 1/2" tall, weight 130 pounds, and I am 67
years old. I think in my younger years I could have handled it, but I have lost too
much weigh in the past year and I am not as strong as I once was.

Growing old is heck, but it is better than being dead, you just have to adjust to it.

What do you think is a good price on a 05 LE with leather and rockford? The MSRP is $27800 and the invoice is $25800.
  • vuchvuch Member Posts: 17
I got it on and man do I like it. :) It rolls up nicely, looks great when closed, and is almost completely waterproof. (Water can still get in from the bottom of the lift-gate but some aftermarket gasket-like material would fix that) I would recommend this tonneau.
  • ricceesriccees Member Posts: 24
Second that, Vuch! I'm very pleased with mine. No complaints so far; had it now for almost three months.
