Our new 2016 Chevrolet Volt can travel 53 miles on a charge according to its rating. I just drove it 70 miles on electricity on my first attempt.

    Ok, who lives at the top of a hill? They should be able to get to 80!

    Dan - Your slow-and-go freeway traffic is ideal for EV range, so the 70 miles you achieved may be unfairly high. The higher loads of constant 55 mph driving would probably reduce your range to be nearer the EPA estimate. As you know, EV city mileage is always higher because they don't waste energy idling, unless there is a large load from the climate control system.

    If Magrath drove gently in the city, he'd probably beat your number.

    I'd like to see a contest for worst possible range. This would give us a bookend view of what's possible. Maybe take 'er up in the mountains on a cold day.
