Thanks for the help with the frozen gas line / battery problem. I WISH I could change my own oil, but I have no safe place to do it as I live in an apt complex.
I will pick up the synthetic oil and see if they will put it in my car at the dealership (still under warranty).
Cheers.
As easy as the oil is to change on this truck, I wouldn't see why you couldn't do it at an apartment complex. The only time you need to get under it, is to remove the oil pan bolt, and reinstall it. You probably wouldn't even have to lift it, in order to get to it, but I'm not sure. The filter is in the front top of the engine compartment, much praise to Toyota for that!
I usually go to Wal-Mart, and buy the 5 quart bottles of Mobil 1, drain the oil in a plastic pan with a pouring spout, reinstall the drain bolt (not sure if the Toyota's use the aluminum washers, but those are supposed to be replaced every time you change your oil, if they do), move the pan over to the oil filter area, remove the oil filter, install the new one, then put the new oil in. Then, you are probably left with an empty 5 quart bottle to pour your old oil in for recycling. It may be more than your willing to do, but much easier than it used to be.
As for taking your syn. oil to the dealership, if you do, make sure they give you the empty bottle back (not like it matters, they could have just poured it into another car, but at least you know someone isn't taking it home), and that they should credit you a small amount, since you aren't using their oil.
Later.
Hopefully, in 7-14 days, I should be getting my very own Taco!
Don't feel your all alone. I order my 11/15/04 and still no word on it. All my dealer tells me is to hang in thier and I ve talked to other dealers around and one seems to have it so they are probably not available like this in my region. there are other truck on the lots but not like this. Has anybody purchased this truck:
Tacoma 7593 D-Cab 4X4 V6 6spd Manual Color: 04Q2 Desert Sand Mica Interior Color: The packages that I need are the OG TRD Off-road Pkg #2, VF VSC+Traction Control, EJ Audio System.
If I could find it I would be willing to fly out and pick it up in a different region. I am in Houston. I really want to stick with these packages and color. my dealer say he can get it put can't give me a time frame.
Thanks
I don't think it'll matter who you go to (unless one is on a lot), they'll all have same wait. I had them at least get me a build date. Usually 2-3 weeks to dealer after that...Good luck, it'll be worth the wait.
Have you been able to build your exact truck at Toyota's webpage? The specific combination of options that you want may be impossible to find because Toyota doesn't build that combo. Might be different with the special orders though. I quickly tried to do your package and didn't even get as far as picking the color. It didn't give me the option to choose Desert Sand. Maybe it's because of my region? I'm in Maryland and they do make you type in your zip code before you can build.
If you are flexible - try looking at these two web pages, they are two local dealerships here in the Maryland area:
www.darcars.com
www.koons.com
I looked at these everyday when looking for my '05 DC V6 manual. I bought mine a few weeks ago. There seems to be a decent supply of the double cab trucks. I was pretty specific in what I wanted - I really wanted silver DC V6 manual with off-road pkg #2. And I found it exactly within weeks of looking at these pages everyday. Hope this helps
I would call some other dealers out there, and confirm they can order that truck like you want. The salesperson I went through originally, had no clue that some options couldn't be ordered with a certain truck (i.e., the EJ Audio System with the TRD Sport DC 4x4 SB).
Do you have a brochure (printed)? It was my understanding that you couldn't get VSC with a manual transmission. I could be wrong, but I thought I remember that being the case.
It's strange that if you order something, you would think it would be rejected, if you can't get the truck ordered that way. Not the case with me, they just kept saying that they didn't know when it would be available.
Finally, I found a dealer that was very knowledgeable about what you could order, and what you couldn't. You might be waiting forever if you don't pursue it.
Super White Double Cab, 4x4 V6 automatic, off-road package with towing, running boards,VE VSC w/DAC, CD player with 6-CD changer, side-curtain airbags.
I didn't have to put anything down on it. But I think it's the side-curtain airbags that might be slowing things down.
I was willing to go elsewhere, but I don't think it mattered.
I also figure that if I'm paying this much, I want to get exactly what I want! I'm just getting so antsy waiting that I can hardly stand it--I've been without a truck since September when I was hit head-on in my 3-month old 2004 Tacoma and it was totaled!!
I also live in Colorado Springs (Pine Creek) and bought a 05 Access Cab V6 with manual tranny from John Elway Toyota in November. I have about 4200 miles on mine. No leaks or any other problems except for the glovebox everyone else has. Got a chip in the windshield a couple of weeks ago. I'm putting in regular unleaded and getting about 20-21 mpg (combined hwy/city driving). I got $1000 off sticker and dealt with John Elway because they were more accomodating and had a better inventory than dealers in Colorado Springs. I would stay away from other truck caps than the Snug Cap made for the 05 Tacoma. I'm a little leery of putting too much stress on the composite bed (did you see the pictures of the cracked bed on this site?). I really want to put a hard tonneau but and still waiting for a company to make one. I haven't seen any other 05 Tacos on the road here in Colorado Springs yet. Would be nice if we could get a group together.

"Please be advised that the 2005 Tacoma, model number 7593, is being manufactured and is available with the factory-installed options OG, VF, and EJ". Now I email the dealer that I want the VF added, don’t think it is going to be a problem since they have no clue whatsoever when they are going to build this truck anyway. I’ve call other dealers around with no luck mainly what to sell me what they have not what I want. I am with tylermade If I am paying this much money and waiting this long I am getting exactly what I want, even if I have to go pick it up in a different city. Good thing is I still have my 98 Taco excab , bad thing is can’t fit a second car seats in it
all of the dealers in our 5 state region CLAIM to be at the mercy of one exclusive distributor - Gulf States Toyota. GST pays Toyota to be the exclusive middleman for the TX, OK, LA, AR, MS dealers. every dealer i spoke with said they can't get what i want because of this arrangement with GST. i live in Texas also. i also tried to order my 2005 Tacoma. the results were more than disappointing. dealers lie and make you wait in hopes that you won't go somewhere else. my advice...GO EVERYWHERE in search of what you want. i found mine out of state and will gladly travel to get it. dealers will tell you anything to keep you in their pocket...figuratively and literally. make them compete against one another. you won't gain or lose any friendships while shopping for a vehicle.
here is a link to the GST biz profile. phone numbers are listed as well.

I was willing to buy any new Taco with double cab and 4x4 option but am glad I got the TRD Sport Package. The ride is quiet and smooth like an expensive sedan from Europe but it's still a 4x4 truck. It's awesome! I haven't taken it to the snowy mountain roads yet, but i think the limited slip diff and 4x4 will help a lot. Will keep you posted on that when I get back.
I upgraded from a 99 Taco 4x2 extra cab and there's no comparison between the two. The 05 makes the 99 feel like the old classic 65 Volkswagon Bus.
Pros: very roomy inside the cab-front and back(i'm 5'7" and skinny, so...yeah), back seats folds up with storage spaces everywhere, TRD package with electrical 110 volts 400W outlet(I can see this being really useful trying to set up camp in the dark), TRD Package with outside temp so you'll know if there's a possibility of black ice.
Cons: no dedicated coin holder(ok, there's lots of places for coins but the spots/holders are huge and coins are rattle/clinging. Very annoying), very quiet ticking engine sound when you accelerate, no lock on gas cap, rear head rest causes lots of blind spots and last, 4x4 switch is not led up with interior dash lights(if anyone else has a 4x4 with a switch that's led up, please let me know so I can have the dealer fix it)
Lastly, all you people waiting for your orders, do what you need to do to get one ASAP. I am lucky to live in SoCal because there's like 50 dealers in my area and the first one with a 4x4, I was there.
After some recent snowy-icy road experience, I CAN say that the truck does very well in dicey conditions, though. Even the Access Cab has pretty good weight distribution. To be honest, I think you could do pretty well without 4-wheel drive in this truck. (As I did a few times, because I couldn't find the d#mn switch!)
Try opening what I thought was access to the fuses on the under side of the dash, to the left of the steering wheel. You'll be pleasantly surprised, as I was!
I also have a 3 week old and no way to get the second seat in without eating the dash. Not like we are going anywhere soon. So still have time not desperate yet.
Palamino going out of state to purchase it wouldn’t be a problem if I could just find it. They don’t get many 4X4 down here I am told so I may have to look up north for a dealer. where did you find yours.

there is also a very detailed explanation (with pics) of installing the unit in a 2005 Tacoma at www.tundrasolutions.com
i highly recommend that site. very active and informative.
make them email you the spec sheets on the vehicles that will show all installed options on the unit.
i found mine in Oregon. it took about 2 weeks of constant pursuit via email and a few phone calls until a dealer responded with everything i needed. my snag was the option GY - side curtain airbags on a doublecab/shortbed. i'm getting exactly what i want...it's just not in my region.
also tried a broker who wanted $1000 more than anyone else. not worth it. although i only tried one broker. you may have better luck and they will do all the work for you.
i'll help however i can. i am not a broker. and seek no profit. i just know what a pain in the butt it is to buy what you want from Toyota in our region.
shoot me an email with what you're looking for and i'll see if i can lead you the right direction. if Toyota lists it in the brochure it should be available somewhere.

In snow, watch out with the stock Sport 17' Dueler H/T tires! This being my 4th truck, these are the worst tires I've ever used in the snow. 2wd is worthless, even with limited slip. Gotta flip your 'unlit' 4wd switch...nice toyota. Cornering, braking, and traction in general can be scary as the wide tires dont dig, they float. I put on narrower 16' full snow tires for where I am. Now the truck is unbeleivable in snow.
Gotta agree on locking gas cap, how much would that cost toyota 5 bucks? Otherwise a great truck, enjoy yours.
P.S. thank you all for the replies. very helpful
Appreciate the help. If you could just point me in the right direction that would be great. Did you just contact different delears in different regions all over the contry? Well this is what Iam looking for.
Tacoma 7593 D-Cab 4X4 V6 6spd Manuel shortbed Color: 04Q2 Desert Sand Mica Interior Color: FH42 Taupe( I am not sure if I can get this color interior with the OG package if not no big deal will go with the FL13) The packages that I need are the OG TRD Off-road Pkg #2, VF VSC+Traction Control, EJ Audio System. One of the red colors would work also.
This waiting around just S#$#S and the dealer around hear are useless.
Thanks agian for any help

I'm also at the mercy (not) of Gulf Coast Toyota, their limited factory option menu and their insistance of some near worthless port options. Where CAN a man order what he wants???
plenty of off road packages around there
and i have personally seen a doublecab speedway blue at a local dealer here in Texas
When I spoke with two manufacturers of slide in truck campers, I was told they weren't considering making campers for the Tacoma with the composite beds. Anyone know why? Is there some problem? This is my first posting and apologize if I used the wrong page.
Thanks Mike

Check out that link, it is a pretty cool set-up, I am going to see if they are available here in Canada.
