Truck stalling out in reverse

So I bought this 1997 dodge Dakota slt for my son. It only has 50,000 original miles. The truck drives smooth and fast. It's a v6 magnum engine automatic. I get it home and it dies on me. Was a battery problem for sure so I bought a new one and it came right on. The only problem I'm having now is getting it started. I have to crank it twice to turn on and it stalls out when I'm going in reverse. Other than that, the truck drives good. No check engine lights. Anybody have this kind of problem?

I'd start with a good tune up, and examination of all vacuum lines. With such low mileage, things could have deteriorated by now.
