I have a Silverado on order. It's the first truck that I'm going to own. I have always had work trucks, but never owned one personally!

When it was time for me to start looking for a new vehicle, I decided to buy a truck this time.

I want a vehicle that is on a frame! Not many cars are rear wheel drive anymore.

Just my two cents!

I'm buying a truck vs a car. I like the fit and feel of a truck, over a car. When in traffic it's nice to be able to see a few cars ahead of you. Ever follow a mini van in a car. It really burns my "hiney" following somebody slow, only to find miles of open road ahead of them. I also run to Home Depot for projects and hobbies. My main reason for purchasing a truck is as follows. I work out in CA. for a striping company. Thats STRIPE-ING, not stripping, you'd be surprised how many people confuse that. When on nights, I see it all. From OTP {on the phone}, drunks,to flat out idiot drivers. Always wear a seat belt! You would be amazed what goes on when you are all asleep. Anyway, one night comes to mind. We were striping a road when we noticed emergency crews working on the freeway down the street from us. Turns out four guys, in a four door mid size car, sped onto the freeway in the wrong direction. They were of course all drunk. They then moved over to the "slow lane", which was in fact the fast lane in the opposite direction. They drove about a 1/4 mile before running head on, full speed, into a full sized Chevy truck. All were killed in the accident accept one, take a wild guess. The guy in the chevy truck was able to walk away. He was just coming home from work in his late model pickup. Would he have survived in the old time basic truck of yesteryear?, I don't know. I like to think he walked away because of all the safety features in todays trucks. Am I happy with all the "yuppie" advances in todays trucks? You bet, pass me the espresso Bif

I've been inspired! I've had it wrong all this time now. When my new truck comes in, instead of washing and waxing it, I'll beat the hell out of it! Yea, I'll also run it into a concrete building. Throw bricks on the hood, pour salt water on all the scrapes and dings. Just beat the crap out of it! Oh, and to top it off, I'll put the confederate flag on my bent antenna. What about a name? AH! of course.........."THE GENERAL LEE" Thats what I think now.

one of them doo-dads that every yuppie has is a computer
• volfyvolfy Member Posts: 274
Respect I have plenty for someone who had worked hard and fed the family with his two hands and a rough old pickup truck and are now enjoying the twilight years on the Internet with a computer.

Next time you see one of us yuppies on the road, though, remember that many of us feed our family with our two hands playing on computers, stressed out at the end of the day just as much as you were. We just enjoy relaxing and working with our girlie trucks on weekends. Ironic, ain't it. ;-)

Good luck with this one now!

A number of posts ago, (post #19), I related some opinions about yuppies & their trucks. I tried not to be too offensive, just a bit informative. Well, let me say to all the yuppies who bought their trucks just because its cool to have them:

This will offend you!!! You have been warned!!

I live in Central Arkansas, and we received our first "decent" snow in 12 years last Thursday. (12-20") It absolutely amazed me, the number of people who thought, "...I have four-wheel drive and I can drive like I normally do!" "It's just a little snow, I should be able to stop & go in traffic like I normally do!"

Granted, I'm not the foremost expert in winter driving, but I've never missed a day of work because of snow. (I live 40 miles from the office, too!) But I couldn't believe the multitude of people in 4wd trucks and suvs who decided that "look, there's a BIG gap in front of that old Scout. I'll pass this "loser" & get in front of him" One yuppie b*@$ard cut me off, spun out, and wound up stuck on the curb. IN A 4WD DODGE!!! When he cut me off, I had 2 options. Try to slow down & steer around him, or HIT HIM! I can tell you now, I should have hit him. He had one lane partially blocked, & didn't have the sense that God gave a rock to engage 4wd, & go on!

Well, it gets better!! This IDIOT has the audacity to come and ask me to help him get off the curb. After I've already slid sideways in the middle of the road to keep from hitting him. I have an 8,000 lb. Warn winch on the front of my old Scout, so Mr. Idiot walks over to my window, and asks, "Hey, can you use your winch thing & pull me out?" As politely as I could, I said, "No sir, I'm sorry." Mr. Idiot then gets mad BECAUSE I WON'T HELP HIM!! He started cussing me for "being a rude [non-permissible content removed]!" I then told him, "If you'd had your head somewhere besides up your A**, you wouldn't be stuck, now would you?!?" Now, I was brought up to help others. I'd have bent over backwards to help anybody else. (I did help some other people that day) But, this guy thought that he had more important things to do, and places to go, so SCREW THE REST OF YOU GUYS!

Now, I have made the assumption that this guy was a yuppie. Depending on what your definition of a yuppie is, I'm probably considered a yuppie.

But I can assure you that no true, bona-fide, self-respecting yuppie would be caught dead driving a 1973 International Scout II, thats in the kind of shape that mines in. I think yuppies are somewhat smarter that this loser, also!

I am sorry for the rambling post! But I know there are some people out there who have the same opinions on this as I do. Whether that's good or bad isn't the point.

Calm down..chill out...at least your not down here in SOBE dodging bullets from some driver who cut you off, cars (not car) piling through red lights while you wait with a green, people making U-Turns in the middle of the highway and pulling out right smack dab in front of you, cars running you over while your are walking on the sidewalk.........yes sirrreee, sliding in the snow seems kind of fun compared to what goes on down here........

Love the post, nice to see some light-heartedness.
I live in South Western NY where it snows about eight months out of the year. You would think people here would know better, but your story sounds like it could have happened here.
I have 4WD Dodge Ram,which has been through 2 1/2 feet of snow without spinning a wheel,so your story really had me laughing.I was passed once by a guy in a Camaro on a snowy highway. He made it around me and then proceeded to slide smack dab into a gully beside the road.He didn't appreciate my laughing but I just couldn't help it.

You're absolutely right!! However, what do you do? Do you just let people have their way in this "ME GENERATION"? Now, I'm not implying that anything could be done about getting run over while on the sidewalk. People pulling RIGHT OUT in front of me? It happens. U-turns? It happens. Running red lights? It happens. Dodging bullets? Well, I can't say that I've had to do that.

That's why I drive my old Scout from time to time. People tend to NOT cut me off, or pull out in front of me when they see it. Couldn't be the hand-fabricated, indestructible winch bumper/grille guard on the front!

Pounded your chest lately, have ya? :-)

Say what you will, volfy. I was brought up to respect my elders, say "Please" & "Thank You" and so on. I was also taught not to let people take advantage of you.

If people can't show common courtesy, or respect, when its called for, I have no use for these people. Simple as that!

Boy, I said all that in six words? Amazing.

Seriously. You did what you thought was right, with an attitude that you deemed appropriate, and with assumptions that you drew no doubt from your experiences. Am I arguing with any of that? No. You do whatever you want.

My only observation is that you seem to think it is always them yuppies that cut you off, cuss at you and so on. You also apparently think that your own driving records and habits are impeccable, and that everybody is afraid of you when you are in command of your big bad Scout.

Just be sure you let me know when you're in town, so I can make sure this yuppie and his little girlie truck can get the heck out of your way.

I drive a hot pink Frontier extend cab with a padded bra, mini side skirts and rear apron. I have a huge 'Maybeline' sticker right across the windshield. It sports a nice set of enhanced European-spec headlights, and I also swapped in a tight rear-end. I don't have any manly tool sticking out the front-end, but I do have a hole underneath I don't know what it's for. I think I have a leak somewhere inside though, since the carpet is always dripping wet.

extra tight rear with the upfront bra and a mini-skirt with a beautiful set of illuminators extended Whitsunday (aka "Pinkster") truck.....

I'll let you take her out for a spin, but only if you promise not to pop her hood and bring her home by 9 o'clock.

And don't let me hear you rolled her over on the side of the road and ended up getting her laid on a flatbed. She is not even broken in yet.

I think all the compacts and half-tons are pretty prone to getting yuppified. The ones who know less about fixing vehicles or diagnosing problems tend to go with the Toyotas because of their reliability record (whether it's a real record or a perceived record is still being debated. I'm sure it's a little of both). I went with the GMC Sierra because it had the best engine at the time ('98) in my opinion, and was the best looking.
