Undoubtedly those aftermarket grilles are meant to emphasize the Bentleyesque look of the 300.

I've been seeing a few Scion tCs recently and it's a handsome little thing from some angles but actually fairly conservative for a small coupe. It reminds me more of a Civic than a Celica. It has quite a following judging by the Scion tC topic but I wonder if those guys'd be quite so excited about it if there were more small coupes to chose from.

tC is priced like a Civic, though. $18k well equipped.

I liked the photos I've seen of the new little Volvo but having seen a few on the street I'm a little underwhelmed. I think I just haven't seen one in the right color (smoke grey? imola red? ink blue?).

ive seen some myself and personally i say it looks better in magazines than in reality
it somehow looks too tall and too narrow from some angles, making it look rather weird to me.

spotted: a red bentley continental gt, nice car :)
  • ghuletghulet Member Posts: 2,564
...on the street, it was charcoal gray, I think. I liked the clean design, just thought it looked really small for a $25-30k car. I think I'd rather just have a Mazda 3 if it came down to the choice between that and coughing up another $10k for the Volvo!

Realistically, an S40 vs 3 comparison, take a base S40 at an MSRP of $23,260, vs the 3s with the ABS/Airbag package at $17,935. So it is only about a $5,300 difference at sticker.

The Volvo also did better in crash testing.

Saw a trio of 300s at the beach this weekend.

Saw a couple of Mazda3 5 doors, too.

Parked in Rehoboth Beach, DE, I saw 2 Malibu sedans and one Maxx. I'd never seen more than one in a day until then.

I saw about 4 billion rental 300s in Vegas.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Same here, I was there in April IIRC, we actually started counting them, hit the 20s before I left. And I was only there 2 nights!

    They must rent them there?

was where they first tested 300's on the public, in rental fleets?
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Must be. Put it this way - since then, if I add up all the 300s I've seen, anywhere at any time, it would not add up to half the amount I saw while in Vegas for those 2 days.

  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,414
I saw lots full of them. There must have been 100 of them at my hotel.

I also saw tons of Sonatas (or Optimas, I confuse them) there, they must use those for Vegas fleets too.

I didn't see any with a vinyl roof unfortunately. But I did see a Concorde with a vinyl roof, and boy was it pukey
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
    Lots of cheesy cars.

Did you see that place that rents exotics, though? They had a nice pair of Ferraris, something like $500 for a half day, $700 for a full day.

I guess they get big winners coming out ready to spend...

I saw a couple of exotic rental places. I know modern Ferraris at one were going for a grand a day. I could get a 911 Convert for 300 a day, for 3 days. No thanks, as the traffic was atrocious.

The cheesiest I saw was a Lumina with the vinyl top look.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,414
Here's something odd I just remembered from Vegas...the new style London taxis. I saw two of them in Vegas. I saw one listed in the DuPont Registry I picked up for the flight home, and they wanted $58K for it!

Cool Vanilla is the color to get, it's the least common and IMHO the best looking, saw one today.

has a 300 Touring edition in cool vanilla. He wanted to get one of those aftermarket mesh grilles for it, but evidently there's a waiting list for those things! He still wanted to do something, so he ordered an adhesive rear wing for it, and a wood accent kit. From what I've seen in pictures, the wing doesn't look bad, but I'm not holding my breath on that wood kit!

On Labor Day, I was heading down 1, towards the Delaware Shore points, and heading the opposite direction, both in retina searing yellow, a Lamborghini Murthielago(sp?)being chased by a drop top Maranello(sp?). Probably some car mag doing a test drive, or something.

ive spotted 2 Gt40s so far, both in red w/ white stripes (maybe its the same car), is there actually any other color for it???
  • andyman73andyman73 Member Posts: 322
2 GTs...........I don't want to hear it!!! Lucky Cow!

I just spent the past few days at the Delaware shore with some close family friends. They are hosting a 16yr old German exchange student. Anyways, several weeks ago, before he came to U.S. of A., he went on a weekend trip with 2 of his buddies. One of which is 18, legal driving age in Europe. 18 yr old's father had more money than brains and let the 3 teens take his last year made V-8 M5. Now, here's the point of this whole story. They were doing about 120 on Autobahn and they hear this ferocious wailing, coming up fast, on their 6. They moved over and an Enzo went screaming by at least 30 to 40 mph faster than their foot draggin' 120mph. I guess when you live in the land of the Autobahn, you are much more likely to see true exotics.

BMW 645Ci convertible.. brand new with temporary tags..

Subaru WRX Sti.. 300 HP.. in that blue color.. Does Subaru really think that 75% of WRX buyers want blue?

Baja's sales target was low, just 2000 a month, but sales are even slower, 600-1200.

Basically it cost them nothing to build, so it wasn't really a big loss.

Rally blue is popular, even with the non-STi models. They also have silver and black. But blue is most popular by far.

Had 15 of the WRXs lined up at the front of their lot.. all blue.. That right there would have made me want a different color.

    Holy cow!

I'd pick an STi in blue but without the gold rims.

I believe the one I saw this morning had black rims.. but, it had a lot of dirt in the wheel wells, and that is what I noticed the most... might have been gold and just dirty... Those 15 were not Sti, BTW.. just garden variety WRXs.

Saw a smart driving around in downtown Toronto. I new it was small, but seeing it on the street with other vehicles... wow, it really _is_ small.
  • kyfdxkyfdx Moderator Posts: 265,514
Maybe they "choose" it, because that is mostly what the dealers have.... Kind of like the Model T... any color you want, as long as its black...

AFAIK there are plenty of other colors for the Ford GT. I saw Blue w white stripes @ a car show which was reminiscent of the glory days. I imagine you can get the other classic combo of white w blue stripes, in fact I'm sure the LeMans stripes are optional.

Original GT40s came in a staggering variety of color schemes.

love...LOVE the orginal GT40 and the new GT (cough 40).

Just paint one of the new ones up in the GULF paint scheme of light blue and orange, sign it over to me for free and they'd have to surgically remove the smile from my face.
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,669
I've seen several shots of the Ford GT in the Gulf colors, unfortunately the "sign it over for free" part will be kinda tough.

I saw one yesterday, also. I see a ton around here. There is a Toyota/Scion dealer a couple of miles away, but they are all over the place now.

I believe it outsold the xB last month, and it wasn't even for sale the entire time.

Give it time, it's priced right so I think it'll sell. Go price an RSX in comparison.

They started selling them only in CA, but now it's spreading nation-wide.

I saw yet another white tC yesterday. They'll make it up your way. Maybe there just isn't a Scion dealer close to you (most are within a Toyota store).

  • alfoxalfox Member Posts: 708
in CA and MA about the same time, and spread down both coasts. Now Scion is indeed spreading nationwide.

Still, the tC only just reached us, and I have yet to see one.
  • ghuletghulet Member Posts: 2,564
I think Scions had been sold for over six months on the coasts before I ever saw one in Chicago, now they're popping up, at least in my neighborhood, all over the place. Within three blocks of me, there are two of each model parked on the street.

Maybe if you write to the Ford Company and bet them if the Lions (NFL team they OWN) win the Super Bowl they should give you 1. LoL

I still like my Idea that Ford should put 100 vehicle (for their 100 anniversary) on Ford Field (Home of the Lions), have a raffle with 100 prizes. The 100 people who win would be flow to Detroit and have to stand in the 2 end zones. Then a whistle is blow and every one runs to their car of choice... but the first person to touch the car gets THAT car (but only 1 car per person) and right on the 50 Yd line have 1 GT(40). That would deffinatly top Oprah's show and I would love to see the scrapping to get to the GT(40). Oh yeah if your pushed into a car (or bump into one) that car is your car.

    Odie

    P.S. - and yes I AM A LIONS FAN

Looks like the A6 as well. Handsome but a total copycat.

  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,669
Could be worse, at least they copied the beautiful interior of the A6 which gives the 500 a more attractive interior than the considerably more expensive STS or CTS (or any GM car for the matter).
