Welcome back, Sr. Sephia nee Soul. Retire? How does one do that?
Hi, laurasdada. I hit the age where I could collect Social Security and the Mrs. gets half of what I get, so I did it. It helps that we refinanced our house a year ago. When we did that we put $41,000 down on the refinance and that results in a mortgage payment in the $500.00 range. Really helps.
Mrs. iluvmysephia1 still has to put up with my needs for another tinker car. I want an old Super Beetle for $5,000. I don't think that one is going to go very far, though. The 2021 Kia Soul LX 6-speed in Sparkling Silver with black trim is a fine little car. I'm good wid it.
So yeah, I am leaving the medical business behind. I may go back to work in some capacity later, not in the medical field. Right now I don't have to work, so I get to play my Gameboy and listen to old Def Leppard videos and enjoy not having to punch a clock anymore. Whoo-hoo!
Congrats and enjoy! I'm thinking of it, but purchasing a new townhome in a high-rent district, along with the free falling financial markets has me questioning my ability to do so. Shoulda bought a bunch of toys last year. Sure, I'd still be losing oodles of $, but at least I'd have the toys! Darn conservative-ish nature.

Well, if you're going for the maximum number of posts in a 24-hour period, you may well be in the running, and this isn't with the angst of trying to decide what to buy.
That said, you have a long way to go to get alongside you-know-who, who responds to everyone separately.

Eh. At least its not a NICE vehicle. I intentionally got a beater to make a beach buggy. And I always feel responsible to help him for some reason. I’ve helped him acquire his last several vehicles. I figure selling him mine and then acquiring another of my own would be less time consuming.

Not like me. Mine keeps asking me for money because he has found himself in a situation where he can no longer afford his precious toy. I finally told him that once he sells it, we can talk. AFAIK, he still has it, but I sure don't hear from him much now.

My brother has killed yet another vehicle. I may sell him the Escape. Stay tuned.
I can’t wait to hear the details on this. Back when we were young my younger brother was rough on cars. He abused and destroyed a bunch of them. I once lent him my Plymouth and he returned it with cigarette burns and the dome light kicked out. Heaven only knows what was going on.

Any of you ever been to Littleton, New Hampshire? There's a Sleep Tech (RPSGT) job there that pays very well. I've researched it before on the net and it looks like a quaint little mountain hamlet. I researched it down to finding out what kind of car dealers are in the area. And such! Of course!
It gets cold. Very cold. And lots of snow. Maybe an hour south of Canada. Beautiful mountains there but surrounded by a whole lot of wilderness. Good for skiing.
You're right - that doesn't sound like retirement. I retired early so the thought of returning to work for a couple years pops in to my head now and then. Houses there are another $100,000 than they are here in New Mexico and Arizona, too. That thought is vanishing as fast as the Atlanta Hawks took to get eliminated in this year's NBA playoffs.
OF, my co-worker who moved to Myrtle Beach in March had his interview at Enterprise yesterday as he's still an employee. They are a smaller outfit up there and only work 5 days a week. Unlike us, they have to put in a request to work the following week, 3 days, and not stuck in a schedule like we are here down south. I like the idea of working different days week to week depending on one's schedule outside of work. We weren't given that choice as our boss asked us what days we wanted to work & he did his best giving us them. Our lead is no longer working on Wednesdays so have no clue what group I'll be with next week. Not sure how your outfit works, but we're open 7 days a week with the weekend crew being very small. I let my boss know I'd like to pick up one of those weekend days, Sundays, but not sure if it's going to fly. Did work last weekend and wasn't too bad. 4 days a week would be great so we shall see how that pans out as they'd probably have to make me full time which I think they are reluctant to do. Still, for a retiree who wants to get out of the house a few days a week and make some extra income, it really is the perfect gig. Luckily our boss is pretty flexible and we can usually take as much time off as we need.

Sandman6472 - your post is interesting to me as I love to drive like you. In 2012 I took a Greyhound to Salt Lake City from where we were living at the time, Couer D' Alene, Idaho. CR England trains you up in what I believe was gonna be 3 weeks to get your CDL license and then they put you in one of their trucks and let you go. Entry pay was $41,000/yr. IIRC. I rode down there and met some of the guys. They were painting a pretty good picture of the CR England program. It took me about 20 minutes to walk up to one of the CR England reps and I said "Hey, I signed up for this but I no longer want to take this training."
"Umm...OK."
"Do I owe you guys anything?"
"No."
"I'll bet I have to pay my way back to Idaho."
"Yes, we won't pay your way back home."
And that was it. I just knew I wasn't going to like it - at all. CR England runs refrigerated cargo and I'm sure their program was professional and all, I just bagged it and I was certain it was the right thing ta do. And guess what? That decision was correct. And it stood the test of time. I wouldn't do it now, of course, because I'm retired. But if I needed to work now I would not choose this profession. Looks a lot like hell on earth to have to drive large semi's for a living.
But I do love to drive and his post gets random thoughts going in my mind about driving for money. Part time, yes please.
Replaced the endlinks front and back and replaced a leaky TPMS valve on the Escape this morn. Looks like bro is going to take it. Of course, I have yet to talk to him about payment. I don't want to accept layaway on this. I've had a tough enough time getting money from him in the past.

Oh, and after getting ghosted by 3 brokers, I decided to give this online self-service thing a try (eezyimport.com). Works kind of like a tax program where you answer questions and it populates the forms. I've already been filed as an importer and gotten some other documents submitted and approved. Got to message back and forth with a broker, too. Only $55 in fees at this point. Looks like import tax will be $37.50.

Yes sir! Down to only 1 Honda for the first time in over a decade. We picked up the Highlander on 2/24/2022 and have close to 4,000 miles. I really like the way it drives compared to the Pilot. It doesn't have the completely numb electric power steering like the Pilot. The V6 is smooth and powerful. I read yesterday Toyota is dropping the 3.5 V6 in favor of a 2.4L Turbo 4. It is handsome and comfortable. It is definitely smaller than the Pilot as far as interior passenger space and cargo space go. My kids never particularly loved sitting in the 3rd row of the Pilot, but now with the Highlander even short trips in town seem to be an issue. I think it has a much smaller gas tank compared to the Pilot. When I fill up, the DTE says 275.

Thanks! The prelude does look tiny. I am happy with the colors of the cars. The Highlander is quite common, but the red makes it look sharp. The Wrangler's Hydro Blue is definitely a looker too. Most Jeeps I see are either Black or White.
