As for your question, yes it supports.
This is from the Sonata 2006 Manual:
    B010B01A-AAT

    What About Gasohol?
Gasohol (a mixture of 90% unleaded gasoline
and 10% ethanol or grain alcohol) may be used
in your Hyundai. However, if your engine develops
driveability problems, the use of 100%
unleaded gasoline is recommended. Fuels with
unspecified quantities of alcohol, or alcohols
other than ethanol, should not be used.

The "catch" is not really with the car and its features, but it is that Hyundai has not yet established a long-term reputation for quality and reliability as have makes like Honda and Toyota. Thus resale values for the Sonata are not as strong as for cars like the Accord and Camry. That is a major reason why the initial price of the Sonata is so low compared to the Camcord.

Yes this topic has been talked about ad naseum and we need to continue to mention it fron time to time because of all the new people on the forum.

I actually intend to call HMFC and tell them what their dealers are up to. I will let you know how it goes.

Keep it to yourself, but I have had mine just a little over
95, no vibrations, smooth as silk. Damn speed limits. :)

i have a v6 sonata and a few weeks ago i noticed on one occasion a whirling sound, similar almost to a turbo cutting in upon hard acceleration (well acceleration when it changed back a gear, not full throttle accel). the whirling stopped upon a return to normal acceleration. i looked under the bonnet a couplle of days later and noticed that it has an electric fan rather than a belt driven one, and i believe that they run on a on demand function, cutting in and out as the engine requires cooling, hence maybe being the cause of this noise. Does anyone know of this situation that i talk of?

    Thanks
    Daniel

The same problem occurs when using shiftronic -2, 3, 4 and 5 'th and neutral gear -it is rpm independent. Can this torque converter be replaced? - Would rather prefer an exchange car...
  • targettuningtargettuning Member Posts: 1,371
By RPM independent I presume that you can "pop" it into neutral within the problem speed range and it still bumps? If so this would, for me anyhow, rule out the torque converter because coasting at speed in neutral with the engine at idle speed...correct me if I'm wrong...is the same as the car at rest for the transmission/converter. Back to considering rotating parts i.e. wheels, brake rotors, wheel bearings, axle shafts and associated constant velocity joints. In fact, has the dealer considered a bent or otherwise damaged front axle shaft?
  • cxccxc Member Posts: 122
Jumping/bumping can happen for any cars if the tire pressure is too high. Some car manuals of which I previously owned state that if the tire pressure is too high, one may experience poor ride and handling. When I got my Sonata, its tire pressure was in the range from 34 to 36 psi. However, Hyundai requires a tire pressure of 30 psi for Sonata, not 35 psi as people may speculate. After adjusting the tire pressure to 30 psi, my Sonata works fine. I hope this will help.
  • hdsithdsit Member Posts: 58
I also have tried neutral in problem range - same result.
Talked to another technician, who said that it i not is the converter based on mentioned fact. I have had left front-axle, bearing and hub replaced - Maybe i should have it shifted all around? Have tried to rotate the front when car is lifted up under the suspension - without wheels/tyre mounted. There was some shaking in the car in the problem range.
  • hdsithdsit Member Posts: 58
i have in all my trials tried various pressure from 30-38 psi - the only difference with high pressure, is that it gives a harder ride...
  • targettuningtargettuning Member Posts: 1,371
By this I assume that the car was on a lift, in gear, with the front tires/wheels removed and the car run up to the problem range per someone in the car monitoring the speedometer? If so, this clinches it that some rotating driveline part is probably the culprit...maybe the other...or right side axle shaft if the left has already been replaced. There are fairly limited possibilities within the rotating driveline parts if you can confidently discount the transmission/torque converter only the drive axles/ CV joints (wheel end)/dual offset joints (transmission end). wheel bearings, brake rotors, transmission output shaft bearings..unless some one can come up with more. I have heard via the Santa Fe owners site that one owner with a particularly hard to find bump in the steering wheel was finally found to be a slightly bent front drive axle caused (speculated to have been caused) by a too tight tie down chain while being transported from Korea on the boat. I know that these are built in the U.S. but the point is an out of true or bent axle shaft can cause these symptoms

Yes, I got my Sonata 2 nights ago (actually, at the end of the day, January 31... The dealer seemed very eager to sell me the car and gave me a really great deal...), but I had to take the loan in order to get the $2,000 rebate (on a 4 cyl. car, which is supposed to be only $1,000 rebate...).

The salesman told me I could pay it off in 90 days. But when it came to signing the contract (at 11 pm...) the finance guy told me it's 6 months... It was worth it anyway, so I didn't mind.

Later, at home, with a magnifying glass, I read the contract again, and it says I can repay the loan ANYTIME, without penalty....

    Oh well....
  • samiam_68samiam_68 Member Posts: 775
Have a friend drive along side you in his / her own car at the problem speed. Have him / her look at each of your tires and see if they spot vibration from a particular tire.
  • stockmanjoestockmanjoe Member Posts: 353
I don't understand your post. Did you take the loan from HMFC? If you did you can pay it off right away the finance guy is wrong talk to HMFC if you have to.

Also the rebate to finanace with HMFC used to be 1,000 and the rebate for the 4 cyl used to be 500 (the 6cyl was 1,000) have rebates gone up?

If you were screwed go back and make one heck of a scene in the middle of the sales floor. Don't take any garbage - no surrender!
  • mamamia2mamamia2 Member Posts: 707
Yes, the loan is with HMFC. As I mentioned, the contract says I can repay anytime, so I don't have any problem....

As much as I remember, the January rebate program (which may be extended to February, I don't know, nor do I care...) is supposed to be $1,000 rebate for the 4 cyl. and $2,000 for V6 -- if you take a loan.

Since I got a $2,000 rebate on a 4 cyl., and since I KNOW I can repay the loan at any time, there is no sense of going back to the dealership....

...The only "problem" I have is -- I will have to deal with my conscience, knowing that the poor, hard-working people at the dealership are gonna be deprived of their commission, if I repay the loan immediately...

    See, I'm a saint. ;)
  • zen2zen2 Member Posts: 226
That's the reason I paid mine off early. Because
the people at the dealership had no conscience. :)
I got the same crap, about having to wait 90 days.
  • bhmr59bhmr59 Member Posts: 1,602
I'm pretty sure the rebates in January were: 4 cyl $500 and 6 Cyl $1,000. Either version offered the $1,000 HMFC rebate.

What you probably got was a rebate totaling $1500 plus a delaler discount of $500 off MSRP.

I saw your post, and I had a few questions.

Which remote starter did you choose? I'm thinking about getting the Commando FM-870-TK.

How much did you end up paying to get it installed, and how long did it take? I couldn't even get my local dealership to hard wire a radar detector for me, and he said he didn't even recommend it because it might void the warranty in the future.

Finally, what do they do with the factory alarm? Do they just leave it in and turn it off? What happens to the immobilizer?

    Thanks,
    Chris

I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations or general comments about Hyundai dealers in the St. Louis area? I can only find one, Ackerman Hyundai, and I don't know anything about them.

Also, did anyone get a cargo net or mud guards when they bought their car? I was never even offered any of these, but I saw them on the Hyundai accessories page. And did anyone get their auto door lock feature turned on?

    Thanks,
    Chris
  • cumptrnrdcumptrnrd Member Posts: 53
Sorry, I forgot everything I wanted to post.

Did anyone get a spoiler? I also noticed that on the Hyundai accessories page, and I wouldn't have mind being offered one when I bought the car.

Also, my passenger airbag sensor seems to be working okay (it is activated when a heavier passenger is sitting next to me and deactivated when there is a lighter or no passenger), but my passenger seatbelt warning light won't stop flashing after a passenger leaves the car. It's okay if the car has been sitting for a while with no passenger (it is off), but after a passenger sits down (turns on), fastens their seatbelt (turns off), and leaves (turns back on and STAYS ON), it does not turn off until the next time I turn the car off and wait a while. Anyone having this problem?

If you go to the Hyundai USA website and look at the dealer locator, it shows 5 dealers in the general area. I'm not familiar with any of them.

Purchased my 06 Sonata last night of January. That said, I only noticed the next day a subtle line that goes across the dash from the top of the radio to the passenger ac vent. I have tried to wipe-off and use cleaner to no avail. I am thinking the dashboard may have had a plastic/protective covering that has left some sort of residue. Anyone have similar marking or ideas?

And did anyone get their auto door lock feature turned on?

We had it activated, it was going to be a 1/2hr. labor charge (about $40) but due to an excessive waiting time, the svc. manager waived the fee. From all I've been reading this is a good item to include before you sign the deal, just have them "throw it in". We had our locks set at the lowest activation speed (I think it's 12MPH) We're happy w/ the setting :)

Last night of January purchased Sonata. Having read forum was knowledgeable re ATL. To this end, informed dealership that to make sale must program ADL for no charge which they agreed to have serviced for no fee. TRG.
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
Does this line look molded-in? I am thinking it could be the break line for the SRS, which is invisible in all the Sonatas I've sat in but maybe not on your car.
  • drsonatadrsonata Member Posts: 3
In fact it does appear to be a line possibly for passenger airbag. I drove 4 Sonatas prior to finding best handling and noticed aforementioned but thought it would be taken care of during dealer prep. In short, the dash line is not a cut nor a differentiated color, but mearly a similar-color "crease".

There is lots of ways they make money off of you when you buy a car. The only person you need worry about is numero uno!

I think they still get some kind of commission even if you pay the loan off right away at least that is what a Honda salesman was telling me when I was chatting with him as my wife's car was being repaired (Yes Honda lovers Hondas breakdown!) He obviously doesn't know for sure but suspected they got someting for it.
  • johnap2johnap2 Member Posts: 105
    Chris,

I will check on the brand and get back to you. The ONLY reason I got it installed at the dealership is because Hyundai is going to warranty it. I wanted to make sure if I had any problems with the car they could not point the finger at the remote start and yell VOID! VOID! The service manager told me only a select few brands have been given the nod by Hyundai.

I paid 600.00 with tax to get this dang thing installed. My last remote start cost me 150.00! Big difference! This one is more expensive because of the integrated alarm system, but I hate em so much it was a big hurdle for me to even get it. I just dropped it off early in the AM and they gave me a loaner car. Since I had to work in the afternoon I did not return till the following morning, but they called me at around 4pm that day to let me know it was done.

The factory "alarm" is overridden by this new one, which also has an immobilizer. Nothing really different.

They were having trouble with "stand-alone" remote starters on the '06 Sonata otherwise I would have never gotten the alarm part of the deal.

We bought a new Sonata GLS V6. Love the car, scared of the car. One week after
taking delivery, the car wouldn't start.
We were told it was an alarm problem. Long, long story short, they replaced the alarm and said all was taken care of. We left the service department and stopped for gas right next door. It wouldn't start again.
When it acts up like that, we can start in neutral.
The car also hesitates between 1st and 2nd, slow to shift. We also feel a vibration in the gas pedal at times. Feels like a joke hand buzzer, but on your foot.
So, three problems they haven't fixed yet.
We are at 2,000 miles, and were told that these problems would "work their way out" after about 1200 miles. But we are averaging about 27mpg mixed driving. Anyone else with these problems? :):(
  • denp44denp44 Member Posts: 46
I have the mud guards and cargo net in my LX. I asked for them in my contract last June. I did not get them until a couple of months later when they became available.
I also had the dealer turn on the auto lock feature after reading about it on Edmunds .com. They did not charge me for doing it.
  • hdsithdsit Member Posts: 58
You are correct about the way we monitored the problem.
It seems that we feel the bumping more on the passenger side (more noticeable on the road), than in the drivers side. So i think i will suggest that we try to change all rotating parts in right front side including brake rotors i both sides, the same way as we did in left side. (mine has been transported by boat)
  • stockmanjoestockmanjoe Member Posts: 353
No you shouldn't be having problems like that. I certainly don't. I have one of the 4 cyls that was built in Asan Korea.

Honest to God, I'd tell them I want a new car same exact car same exact price etc. They can take your old one and sell it on the lemon lot and they will only be out a few bucks.

Create one heck of a scene and talk to the owner about it not his lackys. Hopefully that will work if not there are state agencies you can go thru you should have gotten all that info when you bought the car. Good Luck. Let us know how it goes.
  • mamamia2mamamia2 Member Posts: 707
    Let's calm down, please......

I wouldn't jump to such a harsh conclusion and call your car a "lemon"....

The dealer would HAVE to fix the one real problem you have, of course.

But the 2 other ones, are NOT really problems, just probably the way your car has been designed and built. Mine (GLS 4 cyl., bought just 4 days ago) is also hesitant a bit between 1st and 2nd gear..... And mine too has some slight vibrations on the gas pedal....

But, hey, I have to tell you, for various reasons, we purchased 3 cars in the past few months, a Honda Accord V6, a Civic and this Sonata.... I can tell you that the Accord's gas pedal DOES ALSO vibrate a bit (several posters were discussing it on the Accord board), the Civic is vibrating (the whole car is vibrating), and the Power Steering is affecting its RPM in idle speed (the issue was just discussed on the Civic board)...

Different cars drive differently. You can't expect your new car to have the same behavior as your old car.

Have your car fixed and enjoy it. Or ask your dealer to drive a similar car from his lot, and check it to compare to yours.

    Mamamia2:

Yeah that's easy for you to say you aren't stuck with this lemon.
  • mamamia2mamamia2 Member Posts: 707
    ...Neither are you, stockmanjoe....

It's easy for you to tell others to go fight with their dealer... And you also need to be more knowledgeable about the Lemon Law, and what makes a car be defined as a Lemon...
  • stockmanjoestockmanjoe Member Posts: 353
I no I am not stuck with it that why I am telling him to take it back. Your telling him not to cause you could care less - nice guy.

Oh and you are some type of expert on each states Lemon Law I suppose.

Isn't that down about 9,000 from December's sales? That is interesting, considering the incentives in January were as good as in December. Maybe fewer people buy cars in January.

Well, that is true, I may only have one problem. But I don't think so. I have gone and driven other '06 Sonata GLS V6s. And they do not drive like ours. My wife and I drove a couple other cars the day we picked out ours. They did not drive this way. When we test drove the one we own, we noticed the difference and we were told that it would be taken care of before we picked it up, during the prep. Now at the time I didn't think it was that much of a problem, both were slight. We waited a few days and went to pick up the car, and the problems were still there, again just slight. We were assured that they would "work out" after breaking in the car. And now both are worse and we have, along with those, an engine vibration, and shaking. We drove the car to New Mexico when it hit the 1,000 mile mark. We drove it 900 miles in two days. In the higher altitude, it shifted better, and no engine vibration or shaking. Now was it that we were about 4,000 higher than were we live and drive the car, or is it the gasoline?
We only use 91 ocatane premium, and always from CostCo.Is it the Ethanol or Methanol
that is added to our gas, up to 15%? I also decided to check how it does with the manual shifting. Same hesitation between 1st and 2nd. I have owned many new cars, everything from large Buicks, to Accords,
Jetta's, to full size van conversions, and Jeeps. Many of these cars I drive for 10 or more years, with 150,000 or more miles each. I usually have four to five cars at a time. I know that all cars have their problems when bought new. I was just looking for someone that has had similar problems, so that I could go the dealer with that info. Or if this is how the car is going to be and I'm just going to have to live with it. Well, my wife will anyway, it's her car.
  • averigejoeaverigejoe Member Posts: 559
So the lesson is to never agree to buy a car unless you've given it a long test drive and have found it satisfactory in every way.
Never rely on a dealer's (especially a salesman's) word that any problems you notice will be taken care of under warranty later, or even before you drive it off the lot.
And, the more I read Hyundai and KIA boards, you'd better not plan on relying on the warranty at all.
  • backybacky Member Posts: 18,949
And, the more I read Hyundai and KIA boards, you'd better not plan on relying on the warranty at all.

That is rather extreme I think. I've had very good experience in getting my local Hyundai dealers to meet--and even exceed--their obligations under the warranty on my two Hyundais. What has been your experience in that regard?
  • mamamia2mamamia2 Member Posts: 707
We only use 91 ocatane premium, and always from CostCo.Is it the Ethanol or Methanol that is added to our gas, up to 15%?

------------ Well, THAT could be it....... But we won't know, unless you wait for your gas tank to be empty, and fill it up with one of the major name brands, like BP, Shell, Exxon, etc. And, even better, give yourself some time, and fill it up with the same new gas 2 more times, so that the system is "clean" of the CostCo gas. You may notice a difference!

Again, the "hesitation" between 1st and 2nd gear is probably the way this transmission was designed (I've noticed it a bit too). If you care to read the new Accord board, you'll bump into many complaint about how the Accord shifts (or how the gas pedal vibrates...)... New car technology has it's own quirks, and sometimes problems.

Don't lose trust in your car. If your dealer doesn't seem interested in fixing stuff, check with another dealer... Dealers are getting paid by the car manufacturers for their under-warranty work.

...And there is always the option of contacting the regional Hyundai office.
