Selling 2005 Dodge Caravan... how much should I subtract for blown head gasket?

I had some thermostat and radiator issues and ended up with a blown head gasket. Van is in good condition otherwise, 128k miles. KBB says the value is $2700, I was thinking about selling it for $500 or so. I read blown head gaskets can cost $1000 to fix. Is this accurate? Thanks.

Well $500 is fine---in theory, one never knows how much an engine is damaged after a blown head gasket. You'd be lucky indeed to get away with only a $1000 repair.

Take whatever you can get. Basically the vehicle at this point is at salvage value.

Agree - you may want to ask your mechanic if he wants to buy it. Might maximize your number that way. Or he "may know a guy".

Since the cooling lines for your transmission fluid also run through the radiator, that vehicle may have more than just engine issues.
