Bought a 2011 Acadia used & noticed the a/c compressor cycles even with a/c off (no snowflake) is this normal? Seems hard on the compressor/gas mi.

You may be low on refrigerant, which is the usual (but not the only) cause. As for the a/c switch being off, check the owner's manual...on many GM cars, the AC will work if you have the defrost on. I'm told on some cars the AC might even cycle when the recirc button is on, but I haven't verified that.

no it's not a low refrigerant issue....it's the compressor cycling when it's NOT called for. No defrost, no recirc.
it cycled all winter with heat on.
