Where did you read about the 3-series hardtop convertible? Could it really be only one model year away, considering that the current converts ('06) are still based on the E46 3? Have you heard/seen anything on upcoming Audi A4/S4 converts in this regard?

I saw the C70 at the Miami auto show and was favorably impressed with its looks, but as an S4 driver (not the convertible -- I've never liked the way a soft-top looks when up) wouldn't mind a little more under the hood.

I believe I've read of the HT Convertible 3 on both Autospies.com and in Autoweek. Saw heavy camo'd pix. Don't know if this is a definite, though.

Autoweek reports that there will be a HT Convertible Miata soon, too.

Ah, but isn't the new s60 to be based on the s40 as well?

Will it? Where did you read this? I would think that would make it a VERY tough sell, unless the platform is extended and heavily modified. As far as I'm concerned, they have to make the next S60 bigger than the current because the S40 has nearly matched its interior space as it is. The backseat of the current S60 is a joke.

Didn't Pontiac announce the G6 Hardtop a while back?
Are they for sale yet???? Or did the bean counters kill the car just before they hit dealer lots?
  • navigator89navigator89 Member Posts: 1,080
Not sure if they're on sale yet, however the price is listed on the Pontiac website.

I dont think the Pontiac is going to be such a hit, especially when the cool Mustang and luxurious Solara are in the same price range.
  • laurasdadalaurasdada Member Posts: 5,217
Yes. And from what I understand the release date has been pushed back due to quality issues with the folding hard top. Imagine that, quality issues with a GM? :P

I know GM quality is getting better. I'm just holding such a grudge for about 30 years of crappy GM products...

How much should I expect to pay on a lease for a 2006 Volvo C70, with no money down in Miami FL with great credit?
  • autoboy16autoboy16 Member Posts: 992
A lot!!! I'm from miami and there is no volvo dealer within 35 miles and thats deel volvo! All are north. I hope one opens on us-1 where the moving bmw place is. Btw don't expect low payments, i hope you're not expecting a low apr on a new model right out of the gate...

Have you considered buying out of state? If your area has no Volvo dealers or none that are willing to deal perhaps going to Huntsville, Birmingham, Atlanta, Nashville, or Memphis may help.

Has anyone seen a road test review on the C70? Can't seem to find any reviews from experts who have actually driven the car. thanks. :shades:

I think we are probably a month or so away from the buff mag previews. Auto PR people typically try to work the testing process so the articles hit the news stands just before the dealers are able to start taking orders.

I am looking forward to reading some tests as well. I have been lucky enough to drive an S40 and Mazda3 a couple of times. The one thing that concerns me is how much heavier the C70 is than its platform sibling (in the case of the S40) and cousin (the Mazda3).

The driving dynamics of the S40 and Mazda3 are pretty good. I wonder how the weight will impact the C70. Of course the C70 will be awd.

Spoke to someone on the customer service line for the Volvo Overseas Delivery program today and called the local dlr after learning they are taking deposits for delivery sometime in Aug or Sep. $2,000 deposit is refundable, but it gets me on the build list now. The dlr reports the program will still include the tickets for the flight over and back for 2. They think they will have a demo car sometime in Mar they cannot sell, but will allow people to determine if they want the car. Since final pricing is unavailable the OSD price will be determined maybe in Feb. If it is more than the current info on the net I can cancel. Specs indicate the car is FWD.
  • logic1logic1 Member Posts: 2,433
Specs indicate the car is FWD.

Double checked and you are very correct.

The C70 will weigh in at 3803 pounds with FWD. I imagine the engine will be more than capable of motivating this car. But it will definitely ride and handle different from its S40 platform mate.

After completing some paperwork for my C70 OSD order I was given a copy of a Nov. 2005 bulletin sent to Volvo dlrs addressing C70 OSD orders. It states dlrs could accept pre-orders beginning 11/21 for Model Year 2007 cars. Orders will be filled on a first come first served basis from the limited allocation on this model. First deliveries will be in Aug 2006. This leads me to believe C70's will carry '07 model year designations. Anyone have any other info on the model year designation?
  • logic1logic1 Member Posts: 2,433
February '06 has a first impression piece on the new C70. I cannot recall if they gave the model year.

The article is only one page and short on details. Apparently some one from R&T did drive it, as they say the C70 feels more solid, if a little less sprightly than the S40.

They really like the appearance. They also say it is miles ahead of the past model.

Looking forward to a full test.

I just saw the C70 Convertible at a manhattan, NY Dealership. James Bond Watch out! This car is built like a tank. Steel pillars in the windshield frame...side air curtains that come up to protect you when the top is down (usually they fall from the roof line down) Safety, safety safety. There are 2 devices over the head rests in the back seat of the car that are steel (spikes) I was told that pop up to protect the people in the back seat from getting there head crushed & to stop the car from roleing over many times. They actually will punch through the back window behind your head.It has many bins around the car that will all lock when you lock the door(except 2 in the back)if the top is down you wont have to worry about gettting your things stolen. Seat seems to go back and fourth much faster than other volvo.s (I have xc70) Steering wheel feels nice. Door is solid you can feel the seight when you open and close it. The top open and closes with easy. It looks like a James Bond movies all the things that snap and pop into place. There is even room in the trunk for 2-3 bags with the top down! Volvo has designed the convertable top to raise a bit so you can fit things underneeth the hardtop that fits neatly in the trunk.I was told it comes with a 210 HP engine Front wheel drive only. The car was Red but had to much orange in the color. Ordered the light metalic blue one. Was told that only 3-4 cars would be delivered to the dealerships April-May. I Didn't get to test drive it.The only thing the car had that I didnt like were 18 Wheels that were extra with a very low low profile. like 3 inches. Also it came with BLue tooth a mike was built next to the sunvisor for hands free cell phone use. It turns the radio down and answers your call. The seats in the back are comfortable and depending how far the seats in the front put back, you do have leg room.

Congrats! Keep us posted when your car arrives. I think the C70 convertible is sharp. If I remember correctly, the car used in the brochure is light blue. Very nice color.
  • empty1empty1 Member Posts: 109
Thanks for your report rewolf...I ordered mine back in December.. curious my dealership said models would be in March or April one month earlier than you indicated. The dealership I went to was a large Volvo dealership(s) so I wonder if they are leaning towards the larger dealerships first... by the way did the car have Sirius (I ordered mine that way),,, regards
  • habuhabu Member Posts: 52
Thanks for the info. Did you notice what the model year designation was on the car you saw? On your order is the car an '06 or an '07?
Looks as if this is going to a somewhat rare bird. I have a SportCross and enjoy not seeing any others on the road here in the Pacific NW. The C70 may have the same unique status.

check out this site... click on the picture of the car for a video. Don't know why it's still called the C30.

I wish I had read the forum before I saw the car. The dealer was not given any advance notice on the car. (they called him 9 am and told them they were on there way over. The car was only there until 3 pm. Then they left to Albany. I didn't notice the registration on the car. It was registered in Georgia. I will call the owners of the dealership to find out what year it will be. I still cant believe that each dealer will be given 3-4 cars thats it. I think that will push up the price over list.....making the car a rare breed. Could not tell if this car have Sirus radio. I refuse to pay for radio when i can put in a custom made CD and play hours of music that I like for Free! Have a good weekend all!

Fyi - Road and Track has recently documented their thoughts on the C70 from their initial road test.mostly postitive

Just received an acknowledgement from the OSD program folks. Looks like we will be picking up an '07 C70. Deliveries will begin in August 2006. Prices and dates not yet available. More info to be mailed later this quarter. Nice to know we have a slot in the production line.

The new C70s are on display at the Washington Auto Show right now. They have two, one white, one silver, one with top up, the other with top down. Wow - that top is like watching origami fold up.

I thought the interiors looked gorgeous. They weren't letting people sit in the convertibles, but I did sit in the various sedans and the seats are so comfortable. The demonstrator said that the seats in the S40 were the most comparable, but the C70's seats are a bit wider.

She said they would be at the dealers around April. Habu, why can't you get an OSD before August? Seems strange, clearly they're going to be available in the U.S. before that so why not in Sweden? Or are you deliberately waiting until the next model year?

My dream car would be the Celestial Blue with the white leather interior. Or maybe red.

Funny how if you don't want white, black, or shades of grey, the only real colors they have are red and blue. Oh, there is one "gold" that looks sort of beige. Mostly very neutral-looking line-up.
  • habuhabu Member Posts: 52
    biancar,

I saw the beige/gold convert here at the Seattle auto show. It was on a turntable about 3 feet off the floor. Ropes around the display kept everyone at least 20 feet away. The top was down and stayed down. Couldn't see much of the interior except it was a light beige. I agree that color choice isn't great which is why I'm going with black on black.
I don't have any idea why the delivery dates are so far off. Aug. fits my schedule so I haven't asked. From my first contact by phone with Volvo USA the dates have been the same. I read somewhere that 20,000 C70's will be produced for '07 with 10,000 coming to the USA. The same article indicated Volvo already had 1,200 orders from the USA. I think the OSD program will not get many C70's but why they will be so late in the year is a mystery.
  • biancarbiancar Member Posts: 965
Habu, turns out that the cars in the OSD program in late August and beyond will be 07 models. The ones on sale in the U.S. starting in April will be 06's. Apparently there will be a few different colors for the 07's, plus wider availability of manuals, if you want that.

Has anyone on this site had experience with the old C70? Looks like the turning radius of the new and the old are about the same, slightly upwards of 41 ft. This is the largest radius in the category (compared to BMW, Audi, and for a lot less money, Toyota Solara). Anyone think this will complicate parking or fast avoidance moves in driving?

I'm so used to my Maxima, I want something in a four-person convertible that's roughly comparable in handling and am a little disappointed with those specs for the Volvo.
  • 10scoachrick10scoachrick Member Posts: 74
biancar, I'm hoping the 41.7' turning circle is a misprint! The orig C70 is closer to 39' and that is too large for such a vehicle. It doesn't really impact steering response during quick moves but really seems out of place on a model that takes other mechanical cues from the S40. The handling of our '04 C70 LPT is soft but responsive--actually better when pushed. The stiffer '06/'07 should handle even better(except in a parking lot!).

Any word on prices of OSD models? We considered
OSD on the XC90 for this summer/fall but went for the RX330 instead. We were given local XC90 prices VERY close to OSD but since the US allotment of C70 will be so limited, I would think there is a $ incentive to take a European vacation in order to get the new C70. Great...just what we need to do--spend another $40K+ on a vehicle!!!
  • biancarbiancar Member Posts: 965
Poking around the Volvo site, they say OSD prices are 8% - 10% less than U.S. So if you price out at say, $42,000, the OSD price should be around $38,000, maybe a bit less.

I'm thinking of that OSD option too! But I want to test drive one first, including trying to park it, if they'll let me. Other thing about the OSD is that they won't be available until the end of August, and will be '07 models.

Dumb question ... bought my first volvo (2004 S60 2.5T) back in October of 2004 ... good price $26,800 ... financed $22,731.50 ... told the local dealer i was interested in the new C70 ... so they ordered one in my name with my specs with their money... supposed to have first dibs on when it comes in April/May ... and this is the dumb question... should i expect to pay msrp more or less ... i would think that getting the car on the road quickly to entice other buyers would be worth something... am i destined to spend $45,000 for this car/ thx for tolerating ... sorry if this is wrong place for post
  • biancarbiancar Member Posts: 965
Wow, lucky you. Will you be keeping both cars then?

What options did you get on the C70?

I didn't know dealers would order a car like that for you, without a firm order in place. If it were me, and the car was exactly what I wanted, correct options and correct color - I'd probably offer maybe 5% less, but be prepared to pay full MSRP. But not more - if they started asking for additional dealer markup and what-not, I'd be very tempted to go over to SAAB. That's just me.
  • mmullinsmmullins Member Posts: 2
not keeping both cars ... need to keep the Honda mini-van for the 4 and 2 year-old girls ... C70 selection is below:
    MSRP $38,710
    Flint Gray Metallic $475
    Haverdal Flextech Off-Black N/C
    17" x 7" Sadira Alloy Wheels with 235/45/VR17 Tires N/C
    Dynaudio Package $1,550
    Climate Package $675
    5-Speed "Geartronic" Microprocessor-Controlled Automatic $1,250
    Destination Fee $695
    Total $43,355

thanks for the advice, no harm in asking ...
  • biancarbiancar Member Posts: 965
    Sounds nice!

Maybe you better start negotiating with the dealer before it arrives, just to be on the safe side.

I'll be curious to hear how you like the Dynaudio package. I'm not much of an audiophile, they all sound pretty much the same to me (assuming a decently high quality system), so I'm not sure if I'll be ordering that or not.

Saw the convertible at San Francisco Auto show-Has much better visiblility with the top up than Saab, BMW or Audi -Great looking top up or down-Has all sorts of air bags for safety-However the Volvo doesn't have a spare- They provide a can of air with some glue in it for flats- Sits in a container between the rear seat. Run flat tires are not an option. Mini- spare is an option but that leaves virtually no trunk space- They also said it may have a sensor that stops the top operation except on level surfaces - Thats a problem in San Francisco- Except for that and the spare tire problem I'd order one today
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,769
They also said it may have a sensor that stops the top operation except on level surfaces

I don't know who said that, but I can't believe it would be true. A truly level surface is very tough to come by, even if you don't live in San Fran.

  • biancarbiancar Member Posts: 965
I haven't seen that, about the top not working on level surfaces, but one review said the top won't work if the car is in motion, at all. Some convertible tops will work at low speeds, but apparently the Volvo must be at a standstill. Better pray you hit a red light if it starts raining on you!
  • qbrozenqbrozen Member Posts: 33,769
yup. or you could just pull over. :)

i figure the rep who said level surfaces mispoke and really meant not working while in motion, as you suspect.

Thanks for the heads-up on how to phrase the google query. Found this excellent review here. It's the only one I've seen that went into such detail on the sound system.

My 15 year daughter (the oracle of fashion) says that the C70 is a chick car and not for men especially an old man like me (hey I'm almost 50). In fact she says that all convertibles are for women. So here is my question. Is she right? or is she attempting to take this car for her own when she is 16 and ugggg starts driving?.... opinons?? :confuse:
  • biancarbiancar Member Posts: 965
Does daughter have Daddy wrapped around her little finger, by chance?? :)

I dunno. I'm a woman, fell in love with convertibles as a child when my Uncle always had one - always red. A good male friend of mine bought his white Sebring convertible a few years back as a present to himself; his wife and daughter like it ok but it's not what they would have chosen. His wife drives a sedan.

In general I've known more men than women who've bought convertibles.

I think colors, more than car styles, can be perceived as more masculine or more feminine. I always like light blue cars. On the C70, I'm buying it but couldn't decide between red or light blue. Turns out my husband really prefers the red. So that will tilt the decision on color choice; I think red is probably a more aggressive, more "masculine" color than the light blue.

I think you can tell your daughter when she comes up with $40,000-plus to buy a car, she can buy whatever she wants! As you will, in the meantime. :shades:
  • empty1empty1 Member Posts: 109
Thanks Biancar: yes daughter is pretty persistent but no she will not get daddy's new car or any car at 16. I went with the flint grey... didn't go for the hair weave yet believing balind is beautiful... just wear a cap when the top is down. regards
  • biancarbiancar Member Posts: 965
Pu-lease tell my husband that! He's already saying his poor little semi-bald head is going to get sunburned in my car!! And I think he looks adorable in one of those British sports car hats - you know what I mean, the ones with the bill in front?

You've already ordered your car? When are they saying it will be in?

I'm thinking of doing a trip to Sweden in September - delayed gratification and all for a savings of about $4,000. But I'll miss the whole summer driving season...
  • 10scoachrick10scoachrick Member Posts: 74
Still considering a Euro trip later this year to snag the new C70. Meanwhile, I'll be happy with the two 'chick' cars in the driveway...'04 C70 and '06 RX330! Helps to be secure in one's masculinity, I suppose! BTW, I've heard our Scottie is a 'chick' dog---more like a chick magnet when I walk her! Just don't tell DW!
  • biancarbiancar Member Posts: 965
LOL - yeah, I know about those "chick magnet" cute little doggies. A cute guy walking a cute dog will be bombarded!

As my husband discovered, walking our adorable little poodle along the beach in Rio...

Maybe we'll see you in Sweden? We're talking about mid-September. Hope the weather is nice then.
  • empty1empty1 Member Posts: 109
yes ordered mine in December...Here is what I learned..
it sounds like they will have cars in April but if you want one to match your order it may be in May. They still can't place the order with Volvo yet. Also found out that there is no spare tire but a doughnut spare might fit but will take up most of the trunk space. Other than that I see the reviews have been fairly positive and its a much better car than the previous c70. By the way I am thining but not quite bald... so I might take you up on the English hat. :D
  • 10scoachrick10scoachrick Member Posts: 74
BTW, for those not familiar with the current C70 top operation, the vehicle must be in park with the parking brake applied in order to raise or lower. Our Miata top could be operated at ANY speed! LOL :)
  • biancarbiancar Member Posts: 965
Yeah, I can imagine circumstances where it would be annoying that you couldn't put the top up or down in a hurry if needed. It's probably because it's so heavy, as compared to a cloth top, that the wind dynamics might be harmful.

I rented a Sebring for a week, and that has two latches you have to fasten in front. I wouldn't like doing THAT all the time - might break a fingernail, you know?

If you decide to buy one, what color would you get?

BTW, I test-drove a Miata a couple years back. GREAT, fun car on the backroads and twisties. And then I was totally terrified taking it on the Beltway around Washington! Yikes. I felt like I was driving a toy. Decided I wasn't the roadster type after all.

Do you still have the Miata?
