Amount paid should be in the B9 Prices Paid Forum.

What people should do is on the left hand column "Browse by Vehicle" Use that and select Subaru , then select B9 .. you will get ALL the B9 forums. the "Pricing Forum" and the "Problems Forum" and the newly made "Leasing Forum" listed :)

There was a lot more in that post than just the price and buying experience. But we do appreciate it when new owners report that info for other tire kickers. Here's the links:

The puddle lights do stay on when you get out and at least until you lock it I think which is usually enough extra light for me even in garage with the light off.

But i know what you mean with headlights staying on though i personally don't need or like that as you end up standing there to make sure they go off but its just one more little example of a little detail some ppl want others don't and its impossible to find a car with every little thing working exactly the way you in particular want it to.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I think that's what Lincoln called it, that was the most annoying feature I have ever seen. You never knew when the lights would actually turn off.

If you want some light, try the parking lights. They're on the top of the steering column on my Forester. This gives the driver total control, not some freak programmer that puts a 30 second delay so you end up waiting by your car to make sure it eventually turns off.

But if you know they go off after 30 seconds, why stand there? Our Odyssey does the same thing - after 5+ years, the lights have yet to fail to go out after 20 seconds.

My new B9 is on order after my '93 Grand Cherokee was stolen and totaled. (Caught the guy and I testified at the Grand Jury today. They're throwing the book at him. Good riddance.)

I was quite happy exploring rutted/gravel back roads and occasional forays off the beaten path with my Jeep. No heavy stuff but have gotten into some muddy ruts. Anybody know what I can do with the B9? The ground clearance of 8.4" seems OK but I am a little concerned with the low angles of approach (18) and departure (21.1).
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I guess it's a matter of trust. Lincolns aren't known for their reliability. :P

But seriously, it was just too long, give me a few seconds to get going, and shut off already.

When I lock the doors on my Forester, the lights fade out gradually. It gives me enough time to start heading in whatever direction I need to go.

most of the newer cars with the head light feature now have an adjustable delay. I remember back 10 years ago the Caddys had a rotating knob for the duration the light stayed on. so you can adjust from NONE to say 30 second delay. the key is the "option" to set it to what you want. if you dont like it set it to OFF. if you do want it set it to ON.

You'll be fine with the B9. I do some light offroading in my Outback. The only thing worse about the B9 would be some extra weight and size, but I doubt that will really hurt it.

For hard core offroading, nothing is like a Jeep, but I bet you rarely pushed that vehicle to its limits.

You're right by "debadging" I meant all the lettering on the rear lid. I really feel that it cleans up the rear immensely. I didn't take off the Subura oval symbol, because I think that it would leave an ugly void, as the surrounding sheet metal bulges there.
I do think that if you just left the "B 9", it would be pretty cool too-I like how it plays against the "X-5".
  • megreyhairmegreyhair Member Posts: 154
Does anyone know where it is? I looked underneth the driver seat and found the unit and trace the cable. It went underneath the carpet (man, there are like 3 inches of space between carpet and the body) and up towards the front.
  • riverhawkriverhawk Member Posts: 9
You're right, I never pushed the Jeep. That's why I decided on the B9.

Imitation is one of the best forms of flattery- except when it is done better... The Murano has a very distinctive form- the B9 simply does it better. The Germans dominated the luxury sport segment at one time- the Japanese (Lexus and Infiniti) perfected it.

The complex lines of the B9's body is more a study of art that needs to be seen in a color such as the Pear White and can be appreciated moreover when washing the car by hand. The Murano's body stampings are flat, boring, and simply outdated in a side by side comparison. Nissan's at one point where very "passionate" vehicles- they had a soul and sitting behind the wheel would reiterate that feeling. Ever since Goshn has taken control Nissan has had a resurgence of financial stability albeit by making vehicles that appeal to a broad range of consumers, sharing parts from a corporate parts bin (navigation system, engine, stereo, switchgear, etc).

Subaru on the other hand has appealed to a demographic that is loyal and by introducing the B9 shares that vision with more that like the "idea's" of Subaru's but still need the versatility an SUV can offer.

just trying to keep from reading topics that are already covered in other forums in this forum. A friendly reminder to use the "browse by vehicle" feature on the left column. I am guessing many dont even know its there.

I did notice one annoying thing about the portable one - when it loses a satellite signal (indoors) it keeps asking if you want to turn off the antennae. But then it doesn't come back on automatically. I think it should.

So will it turn itself off in long tunnels?
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
But it does ask if you are indoors. You have to answer No, then answer a 2nd question, then confirm the date for some odd reason.

It's just a bit odd. Haven't driven under a tunnel but when I do I'll report back.

Basically these are things that an integrated system can nail down a bit better. It can forecast where you are because it knows which direction you were traveling in and at what speed.

actually it has a gyroscope to monitor speed when it loses GPS signal. There are high end Portable GPS with that feature. not sure what it takes to install them. someone mentioned before in this thread about it.

Yeah, but not in the $404 price range. :)

How did you accomplish the debadging, heat it up and peel it off? I've also heard that you should use dental floss. That won't scratch?

    Thanks,
    Don
  • aixaix Member Posts: 30
    Hi Don,
If the car is relatively new, you should be able to remove it by simply sliding dental floss or fishing line behind the lettering. I took the lettering off the day after I got the car, so I didn't need to heat the letters up. But if required, gently heating the lettering with a hair dryer should soften up the double-sided tape underneath. Then you can use the floss/line to assist in getting the letters off. Afterwards you usually can rub off the residual tape with your fingers. If necessary, I've had good success with Goo Gone to pull off any residual goo. Did this on both my Beca and Jag and had no scratches. Good luck and let us know how it turns out! :D

I've got 5000 miles on my B9 Tribeca today, and I do declare the engine is just fine, thank you very much. I've found plenty of power when needed on the streets, and have found enough torque over steep logging roads this summer, while loaded, to put any doubt to rest. More power? More torque? yeah, always. I'm sure even Shuttle Astronuats want more power, and look what they're drivin'! I avoided a potential mess earlier this week with someone's fishtailing boat-in-tow by simply punching it and hangin' on to the road. I love Subarus. It there when you need it.

Good morning- Just found out that when the wipers are on, and when you put the car in reverse, the rear wiper automatically swipes once to clean the rear window for a clearer view out... The puddle lights are very well worth their value- they are bright, and does a decent job of illuminating the ground where you step.

I ordered my rear bumber guard and front bumper undergaurd I'll be sure to share the installation with you- most probably glued in place for both front and back. I am more excited about the front guard, it makes the B9 look more rugged.

I am thinking of installing Sylvania Silverstar bulbs- the current ones are bright enough, but to me they look more yellowish than white, my other cars have had HID (Xenon) lights, and I like the natural white light they emmit- anyone try those bulbs yet on their cars?

My floor mats were back ordered when I picked up my car- anyone else have to wait,if so how long before you got your mats?

    Regards, AKA1

I just put the bumper guards on my car, few observations
    1. the position of the rear ones according to the Subaru instructions will cover the little cover on the passenger side rear bumper for the tow tie down point! So you have to bring it around the side more than the instructions say.
    2. the back ones stick real well as the bumper seems more solid but the front ones seem to be peeling a little as the front bumper is more flexible, so be very careful as you push it down to make it adhere.
    3. I like them so much I may get another set to put in the middle of the bumpers!
    4. used masking tape to make sure everything was "levelled" correctly
  • megreyhairmegreyhair Member Posts: 154
I think the $1000 Garmin one has a speed sensor that you mount on the wheel or get its singal from car's own speed sensor. They said it need professional installation.
  • c_hunterc_hunter Member Posts: 4,487
Yeah, they started doing that wiper trick on the 05 Leg/OB wagons, pretty cool idea.

The rear bumper guard (on top of the bumper) goes on with double-stick tape, but the front under-guard attaches with pop-fasteners (basically same as what anchors the bottom of the front chin spoiler now).

I see a lot of Subarus with the side bumper guards; with my luck, someone would just hit me above/below those areas! We were worried about the lack of door trim on my wife's TSX, and wouldn't you know it, all the dings we're getting are much higher, at door-handle level.

    Afternoon,

I was also looking at putting the Sylvania Silverstar bulbs in our Tribeca, only problem is they only make the H7 (low beam) and H3 (fog light) in the Silverstar bulbs. The H9 (high beam) they do not. Howevever, PIAA does make a PIAA H9 Xtreme White 65W=110W for $114.95 each.

Don't know why they are so expensive; not street legal??; if regular wiring can handle them; or if the lens assembly can too without blackening or discoloring.

    Only place I've found them - http://www.autothing.com/Products/PIAABulbs/products-bulbs-PIAA-intro.htm.
Found a Korean (NOKYA) brand at http://www.autothing.com/Products/PIAABulbs/products-bulbs-PIAA-intro.htm.

There is a Canadian company at http://www.hitechimportlighting.com/piaa.htm that has them for $116.25 per pair. But again will these do damage to any part of the lens assembly or wiring????

Also http://www.hoen-usa.com/plus.htm are their H9's safe????????
Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?

The Silverstar are street legal, but again only available in the H7 and H3 - with no H9.

    Thanks in advance everyone........................

I saw my first real-life Tribeca (black) today -- pulling into the Trader Joe's parking lot in Hartsdale (which resembles a lot at a Subaru dealership).

Very striking vehicle -- kinda weird to see the Subaru logo on something so big!

Off-topic, I also saw my first regular-old non-turbo 05 Legacy wagon today (black as well). What a beautiful, elegant design!

I saw a gold Tribeca at Lowe's yesterday, which makes it the first one I have seen off a dealer lot. Parked my gold OB XT next to it. The Tribeca looks awesome in that color.

Anyone with some experience with a little off roading with their B9? I was wondering how it would do at the beach... It has the ground clearance, but does it have the torque to pull it through the sand?

    Regards,
  • c_hunterc_hunter Member Posts: 4,487
Actually, you want to go light on the throttle in sand, so torque could be a bad thing if not applied carefully. Many of us have driven our Subarus on the beach. If you air down your tires to about 18 psi and take it easy on the throttle, you should be just fine. Also make sure you know what you're doing; a lot of people get stuck on the beach in all kinds of vehicles when they do something stupid!

I am deeply saddened to report my beca was in a fairly bad fender bender. Though it is mostly the front corner it through the alignment off, dislodged the headlight, even bent the hood a little possibly and will definately need a new bumper even though it is just in one corner it made a hole.

I am super depressed about it and appreciate how gret the B9 Tribeca was/is and will never take it for granted now that I am driving a bulky, boxy , ugly Ford Explorer. I hate it. The interior is the extreme opposite negative of the Tribecas superior comforting interior. I miss Nav, i miss my audio inputs for mp3 player and portabl sat radio. Driving anywhere especially to work sucks.

Supposed to only take about 2 weeks to fix but I am worried there might be delay in getting some parts because it is still so new. If anyone has any positive news in regards to or experience with body work repairs on a Tribeca let me know. I know there was one other person on this forum who got in an accident with their tribeca first and am interested to know how their repairs went. I will let everyone know how it turns out :confuse:

I will never again participate in making petty complaints about the B9 or ways in which it could have been more perfect. It is the greatest vehicle ever and I can't wait to get it back. I'm just going to pretend I haven't gotten it yet and it comes in in 2 weeks.

Anyway, i wanted to comment on the headlight thing because I also wanted to switch out the headlights to a brighter whiter xenon like bulb. so its H7 headlights, H3 fog lights and H9 brights. Thanks to the guy with the initial headlight post there as though i mentioned it way back I never found in the manual and noone mentioned the bulb size and thanks for the link for the H9's morey000.

I know when my friend got his 350Z almost totalled in accident he turned a negative into a positive by getting a carbon fibre hood, ground molding kit and other additions improvements ,customizations to it when it was repaired. I dont think there is much like that neccessary or possible for the Tribeca but I'll look forward to getting chrome center caps and some new headlight bulb upgrades and hope that she will be as good as new and better then ever.

NHTSA frontal crash test results for B9 Tribeca are in: another great performance by Subaru. As anticipated, 5 STARS for both driver and passenger.

So Sorry about your accident! I know how you feel as my tribeca was in the shop for three weeks after a SUV hit me... Subaru repaired at the dealer, lifetime warranty, looks great, picked it up yesterday. The insurance company put me in a caddie for the three weeks...it was so odd. Was the accident your fault...of not the insurance company has to give you a depreciation payment..just thought Id let you know
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
Sorry to hear about that, at least you are OK, that's what counts.

2 weeks is quick, it took about 8 weeks to get my Miata fixed. It's a '93, and they had trouble finding some of the parts, which went out of production a long time ago. Had to hunt around junk yards, err, "recycling centers", to find something. Hang in there.

I'm real curious to see the IIHS tests, which are tougher.

headlight bulbs are so questionable on their wattage ratings. especially those from the non-major mfg (GE / Phillips / Sylvania /PIAA). its good to do a search on xenon bulbs which are different obviously from HID lighting which use a differant lighting system with a separate ballast and costs over $100 dollars for a conversion kit.

I did a search online and found a good article from a BMW Car Club
    ------------------------------

I like the premium bulbs from Sylvania or GE which put out more real light then these blue tinted bulbs claiming higher wattage from Japan ect. They said the premium bulbs only put out 16% more light. They seemed to like the Toshiba HIR 9011 high-beam bulb in a E36 U.S. housing

Heres the interesting info from this article:
    -------
There are bulbs available from other sources that claim that they produce not only bluer light but also more light. In testing, the claim of “more light” is frequently found to be inaccurate, because to achieve the bluer appearance of the light, a blue filter coating is put on the bulb. The blue filter absorbs visible light with the result that the actual light output is less than another lamp of the same wattage. Moving the spectral output of the lamp toward the blue end of the spectrum also moves it toward the end where the human eye has problems processing it; this, too, lessens the effectiveness of the bulb.

These bulbs are frequently advertised as “xenon” bulbs. This is only partly accurate. HID bulbs do use xenon gas in their envelope. Standard halogen bulbs also may use some percentage of xenon gas to improve thermal efficiency, but the amount is relatively low—in the single-digit percentages. Too much xenon in a tungstenhalogen bulb will lessen the lifetime of the bulb. The claim of “xenon bulb” is intended to imply that the bulbs are HID bulbs— which they are not. Claims of 50%, 100% xenon are simply bogus—and a hint to avoid the vendor who makes such claims.

Way beyond what the article says, he claimed FHI built the planes that bombed Pearl Harbor, and that's just wrong. I pointed that out earlier.

I think he tried to be clever and funny but ended up just being offensive and unfair.

Here's the thing, if you are going to be brutal at least make sure you are correct. If not then you are very wrong, and end up looking like a fool. A big fool.

He was canned because his review was inaccurate and unfair, period.

Just a big hello and thanks. Hello because I have been an anonymous reader of the forum for the last few weeks, and thanks because of all the terrific information (i.e. advice, features, performance, ...) you forum members have created over the months.

Just last week, my family ordered a 7-pass. "basic" Tribeca and it should be arriving sometime next month; so, needless to say, we are very excited. My kindergarten son even wanted to draw a "Tribeca" for his art project last week (though the teacher had no clue what he was talking about!). And I find myself just longingly staring at any glitzy photos of the beautiful B9 (big thanks to your photos KMartin because we ordered an Atlantic Blue model as well!). I am questioning my mental health to be so obsessed—yes, afraid so—with a car but you all make me feel, well, normal!

BTW, we are not newbie Subaru owners because we still have our 1997 Outback that has performed so admirably for the last nine years!

    Happy Trails!!
