But i know what you mean with headlights staying on though i personally don't need or like that as you end up standing there to make sure they go off but its just one more little example of a little detail some ppl want others don't and its impossible to find a car with every little thing working exactly the way you in particular want it to.
If you want some light, try the parking lights. They're on the top of the steering column on my Forester. This gives the driver total control, not some freak programmer that puts a 30 second delay so you end up waiting by your car to make sure it eventually turns off.

I was quite happy exploring rutted/gravel back roads and occasional forays off the beaten path with my Jeep. No heavy stuff but have gotten into some muddy ruts. Anybody know what I can do with the B9? The ground clearance of 8.4" seems OK but I am a little concerned with the low angles of approach (18) and departure (21.1).
But seriously, it was just too long, give me a few seconds to get going, and shut off already.
When I lock the doors on my Forester, the lights fade out gradually. It gives me enough time to start heading in whatever direction I need to go.

For hard core offroading, nothing is like a Jeep, but I bet you rarely pushed that vehicle to its limits.

I do think that if you just left the "B 9", it would be pretty cool too-I like how it plays against the "X-5".
The complex lines of the B9's body is more a study of art that needs to be seen in a color such as the Pear White and can be appreciated moreover when washing the car by hand. The Murano's body stampings are flat, boring, and simply outdated in a side by side comparison. Nissan's at one point where very "passionate" vehicles- they had a soul and sitting behind the wheel would reiterate that feeling. Ever since Goshn has taken control Nissan has had a resurgence of financial stability albeit by making vehicles that appeal to a broad range of consumers, sharing parts from a corporate parts bin (navigation system, engine, stereo, switchgear, etc).
Subaru on the other hand has appealed to a demographic that is loyal and by introducing the B9 shares that vision with more that like the "idea's" of Subaru's but still need the versatility an SUV can offer.
just trying to keep from reading topics that are already covered in other forums in this forum. A friendly reminder to use the "browse by vehicle" feature on the left column. I am guessing many dont even know its there.

So will it turn itself off in long tunnels?
It's just a bit odd. Haven't driven under a tunnel but when I do I'll report back.
Basically these are things that an integrated system can nail down a bit better. It can forecast where you are because it knows which direction you were traveling in and at what speed.

If the car is relatively new, you should be able to remove it by simply sliding dental floss or fishing line behind the lettering. I took the lettering off the day after I got the car, so I didn't need to heat the letters up. But if required, gently heating the lettering with a hair dryer should soften up the double-sided tape underneath. Then you can use the floss/line to assist in getting the letters off. Afterwards you usually can rub off the residual tape with your fingers. If necessary, I've had good success with Goo Gone to pull off any residual goo. Did this on both my Beca and Jag and had no scratches. Good luck and let us know how it turns out!
I ordered my rear bumber guard and front bumper undergaurd I'll be sure to share the installation with you- most probably glued in place for both front and back. I am more excited about the front guard, it makes the B9 look more rugged.
I am thinking of installing Sylvania Silverstar bulbs- the current ones are bright enough, but to me they look more yellowish than white, my other cars have had HID (Xenon) lights, and I like the natural white light they emmit- anyone try those bulbs yet on their cars?
My floor mats were back ordered when I picked up my car- anyone else have to wait,if so how long before you got your mats?
Regards, AKA1
1. the position of the rear ones according to the Subaru instructions will cover the little cover on the passenger side rear bumper for the tow tie down point! So you have to bring it around the side more than the instructions say.
2. the back ones stick real well as the bumper seems more solid but the front ones seem to be peeling a little as the front bumper is more flexible, so be very careful as you push it down to make it adhere.
3. I like them so much I may get another set to put in the middle of the bumpers!
4. used masking tape to make sure everything was "levelled" correctly
The rear bumper guard (on top of the bumper) goes on with double-stick tape, but the front under-guard attaches with pop-fasteners (basically same as what anchors the bottom of the front chin spoiler now).
I see a lot of Subarus with the side bumper guards; with my luck, someone would just hit me above/below those areas! We were worried about the lack of door trim on my wife's TSX, and wouldn't you know it, all the dings we're getting are much higher, at door-handle level.

I was also looking at putting the Sylvania Silverstar bulbs in our Tribeca, only problem is they only make the H7 (low beam) and H3 (fog light) in the Silverstar bulbs. The H9 (high beam) they do not. Howevever, PIAA does make a PIAA H9 Xtreme White 65W=110W for $114.95 each.
Don't know why they are so expensive; not street legal??; if regular wiring can handle them; or if the lens assembly can too without blackening or discoloring.
Only place I've found them - http://www.autothing.com/Products/PIAABulbs/products-bulbs-PIAA-intro.htm.
Found a Korean (NOKYA) brand at http://www.autothing.com/Products/PIAABulbs/products-bulbs-PIAA-intro.htm.
There is a Canadian company at http://www.hitechimportlighting.com/piaa.htm that has them for $116.25 per pair. But again will these do damage to any part of the lens assembly or wiring????
Also http://www.hoen-usa.com/plus.htm are their H9's safe????????
Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?
The Silverstar are street legal, but again only available in the H7 and H3 - with no H9.
Thanks in advance everyone........................
Very striking vehicle -- kinda weird to see the Subaru logo on something so big!
Off-topic, I also saw my first regular-old non-turbo 05 Legacy wagon today (black as well). What a beautiful, elegant design!

how does about $12 sound to ya?

who's your buddy?
V-mod is a very reputable outfit. Just don't tell them you'll be putting them on a Subaru. :shades:
I am super depressed about it and appreciate how gret the B9 Tribeca was/is and will never take it for granted now that I am driving a bulky, boxy , ugly Ford Explorer. I hate it. The interior is the extreme opposite negative of the Tribecas superior comforting interior. I miss Nav, i miss my audio inputs for mp3 player and portabl sat radio. Driving anywhere especially to work sucks.
Supposed to only take about 2 weeks to fix but I am worried there might be delay in getting some parts because it is still so new. If anyone has any positive news in regards to or experience with body work repairs on a Tribeca let me know. I know there was one other person on this forum who got in an accident with their tribeca first and am interested to know how their repairs went. I will let everyone know how it turns out :confuse:
I will never again participate in making petty complaints about the B9 or ways in which it could have been more perfect. It is the greatest vehicle ever and I can't wait to get it back. I'm just going to pretend I haven't gotten it yet and it comes in in 2 weeks.
Anyway, i wanted to comment on the headlight thing because I also wanted to switch out the headlights to a brighter whiter xenon like bulb. so its H7 headlights, H3 fog lights and H9 brights. Thanks to the guy with the initial headlight post there as though i mentioned it way back I never found in the manual and noone mentioned the bulb size and thanks for the link for the H9's morey000.
I know when my friend got his 350Z almost totalled in accident he turned a negative into a positive by getting a carbon fibre hood, ground molding kit and other additions improvements ,customizations to it when it was repaired. I dont think there is much like that neccessary or possible for the Tribeca but I'll look forward to getting chrome center caps and some new headlight bulb upgrades and hope that she will be as good as new and better then ever.

Side impact and rollover tests are still pending.
Man they crashed the green one. I like it and wanted it...... but my wife said no........ stuck with a champagne....... Still want green...
2 weeks is quick, it took about 8 weeks to get my Miata fixed. It's a '93, and they had trouble finding some of the parts, which went out of production a long time ago. Had to hunt around junk yards, err, "recycling centers", to find something. Hang in there.

I'm real curious to see the IIHS tests, which are tougher.

I did a search online and found a good article from a BMW Car Club
------------------------------
I like the premium bulbs from Sylvania or GE which put out more real light then these blue tinted bulbs claiming higher wattage from Japan ect. They said the premium bulbs only put out 16% more light. They seemed to like the Toshiba HIR 9011 high-beam bulb in a E36 U.S. housing
Heres the interesting info from this article:
-------
There are bulbs available from other sources that claim that they produce not only bluer light but also more light. In testing, the claim of “more light” is frequently found to be inaccurate, because to achieve the bluer appearance of the light, a blue filter coating is put on the bulb. The blue filter absorbs visible light with the result that the actual light output is less than another lamp of the same wattage. Moving the spectral output of the lamp toward the blue end of the spectrum also moves it toward the end where the human eye has problems processing it; this, too, lessens the effectiveness of the bulb.
These bulbs are frequently advertised as “xenon” bulbs. This is only partly accurate. HID bulbs do use xenon gas in their envelope. Standard halogen bulbs also may use some percentage of xenon gas to improve thermal efficiency, but the amount is relatively low—in the single-digit percentages. Too much xenon in a tungstenhalogen bulb will lessen the lifetime of the bulb. The claim of “xenon bulb” is intended to imply that the bulbs are HID bulbs— which they are not. Claims of 50%, 100% xenon are simply bogus—and a hint to avoid the vendor who makes such claims.

I think he tried to be clever and funny but ended up just being offensive and unfair.
Here's the thing, if you are going to be brutal at least make sure you are correct. If not then you are very wrong, and end up looking like a fool. A big fool.
He was canned because his review was inaccurate and unfair, period.

From that article:
key to this successful attack was the Japanese aircraft, particularly the MITSUBISHI A6M Type 0 fighter, commonly known as the Zero

Just last week, my family ordered a 7-pass. "basic" Tribeca and it should be arriving sometime next month; so, needless to say, we are very excited. My kindergarten son even wanted to draw a "Tribeca" for his art project last week (though the teacher had no clue what he was talking about!). And I find myself just longingly staring at any glitzy photos of the beautiful B9 (big thanks to your photos KMartin because we ordered an Atlantic Blue model as well!). I am questioning my mental health to be so obsessed—yes, afraid so—with a car but you all make me feel, well, normal!
BTW, we are not newbie Subaru owners because we still have our 1997 Outback that has performed so admirably for the last nine years!
Happy Trails!!
