Your fix on silencing the seat belt chime worked like a charm.
You next challenge, should you accept it, is to get the passenger airbag on/off light to go out after the car is in gear.
OK, I love a challenge....How about duct tape? Sticky note? 3x5 photo of your favorite someone? Mount an iPod in front of it? Chalkboard paint? (I've really got ot stop watching all those DYI shows!)

PS: glad everyone is getter the de-chime thing to work...don't forget to ALWAYS buckle up, though!

My parents have a Park Avenue, and it UNLOCKS itself when you take it out of gear...NOT a safe idea in the metro areas of the country, especially. Since my mom drives around by herself a lot, I just grabbed their manual and found the de-programming instructions for that "feature". I think you can also override the 'LOCK" feature in a GM car in similar fashion.
-Karen-
If I remember reading correctly from the manual (OK, I admit it, I did read some of it), the temp settings are controlled by the solar sensor in the front passenger side dash...near the windshield, in combination with an air temp sensor near the driver's knees. I find that in bright sunlight (which is most of the time out here) the car freezes me out at even 82 sometimes, but if the sun disappears behind a cloud or after the sun sets, all of a sudden I get a blast of warmer air at the same temp. I may experiment with covering the solar sensor just to see what happens.

My BMW unlocks the door with a pull of the handle also, but will take a second pull to open the door for safety reasons. I kind of like this two step approach instead of hitting the unlock switch if I forget. I also had the dealer program the remote key at delivery to disengage the automatic locking feature. When is Subaru going to get away from the separate key fob and just build this into the key like others have done?
Just my 2-cent's worth :-)

I installed mine. Yes screws are used to attach but they do not touch the hood. The clips however are secured to the underside of the hood with plastic blocks and screws. They give you clear 3M bandaids for a lack of a better word to protect your hood where you place the clips.
Hope that helps.
Don
As for puddle lights, the general consensus seems to be "no", this is a factory-installed item.
Who cares? You got a great vehicle! Enjoy!
-Karen-
And congrats, Don! I thought the puddle lights were port-installed, not factory-installed, which would mean it may be feasible to have done somewhere down the road (probably not at the dealer) once the brave start to tinker with their new cars. *shrug*
Actually, I like the Mary Kay theory better :-)

Love the Tribeca 17- 18 MPG around town, will do 1st oil change @1k or so and convert to Mobil 1 and change every 5k-6 thereafter.

I have also ordered from Belknap Subaru in New Hampshire, which would be even closer to you. Their website is at: http://www.subaruxtras.com/ or call at 1-800-358-4029 . They also have great prices and service in my experience.
Also, here's a place in CT that has them for $79:

You can probably install the splash guards yourself -- it's normally an easy job and they come with instructions. You can turn the front wheels to get easy access to the fronts, and either use a stubby screwdriver or remove the rear wheels for those if space is tight (may not be required however). I have put flaps on all our cars and would definitley not pay dealer rates for such a trivial job. Plus it's kind of fun.
Good luck,
Craig
Also, if I remember correctly, the invoice price on the splash guards was around $75. You should be able to find prices close to this at some of the online discount parts places others have mentioned.
They really aren't that big once they are on the vehicle, but it makes a world of difference as soon as you hit that first muddy pothole :-)
-Karen-
Also, what's the install time on each of these items?

the Bridgestonme Turanza LS is a great tire, they get rave reviews at Tirerack and are higher rated than the comparable Michelin touring tires. They are pricey though.
June.
I see where the screws screw the bug guard on to the plastic clips and how the screws don't touch the hood. What I did not see is how the clips are secured to the hood beside being slid over the edge of the hood. I will have to look under the hood to find the plastic blocks and screws. I did see the 3M clear protective tape under each of the rubber bumpers and the clips.
I wonder how secure it is when I run the B9 thru a touchless car wash (actually touchless is a misnomer) just brushless.
Will also get a sonar system, a local radio place is going to do them, will be about $350-400 depending on how much labor. the dealer wanted 700 for the system they have someone put in. These guys do all the sonar installs for the local Caddy (and BMW/MB/ Porsche/Infinti/Lexus) dealer but this will be the first Tribeca they have done. will have to ask them if the bumper guards may interfere with the sensors they will be putting near the corners.
You also could try removing fuses, but the radio has at least two power leads (main and memory) and it's not clear to me which, if not both, would trigger the reset. And normally the fuse for the memory circuit is not clearly identified (may even be tied to an underhood fuse). So the battery trick is often the easiest thing to do. The downside is that it will reset a bunch of other stuff too (clocks, etc).
Craig
I'm sure it would void the warranty. It has a bumper to bumper bring it to the dealer and hope it is not a stick on label.
Not too much substance, though. It's like he read the press materials, drove it around the block, then wrote that blog entry.
Fuji’s planes bombed Pearl Harbor
Hmm, wasn't the Zero actually made by Mitsubishi?
Subaru claims there are 17 thousand of them
No way, that was the sales goal for calendar year 2005.
I was thinking about writing a rebuttal, perhaps entitled Kojak gets a Crew Cut, but I'll stick to writing about things I actually know a little about. :P

I also found a site online where i could order an Alfa Romeo badge and Alfa Romeo lettering from Italy that I though of putting in the empty area I took the Subaru lettering off from.
only other mod i'm doing probably is getting the chrome center caps for my wheel rims as i already have front windows tinted to match the back which looks uniform and nice and all the accessories I wanted. Nothing left to do but enjoy it.
I'm still happy with beca and I've been saying lately if it was a hybrid with a faster tourquier engine with more hp like the Lexus RX 400h or Toyota Highlander Hybrid both of which have more tourque and hp then the Tribeca are genearlly faster believe it or not and might both use the same hybrid engine.
The Lexus RX 400h is too expensive for me and my mom traded her old RX 300 (not the newer 330) and my dad traded his old HIghlander for the new hybrid version so I didn't want the same car as him plus I don't particular like the plain boring styling of the Highlander.
Again if the Tribeca had an engine anything near the mpg and power that those in the afore mentioned produce it would be the ultimate car to me.
Of course now with gas prices hitting over $3.50 and well on their way to $4/gallon after we thought they wouldn't hit or break $3 I feel like I should have given up a little style for the better gas mileage of the Highlander.
Oh well i still love my Beca and could just trade with one of them I guess if i have to go on a long gas guzzling road trip or something.
And I should report after all my complaining about the mpg results i was getting. With the combination of reaching over 2k miles and probably most of all softer driving I have now got as high as 25mpg as some had reported that I did not believe as well as just above and below 20mpg so it has gotten better but the small gas tank kind of sucks as you cringe at the prices when you have to refill and even if it works out to be the same amount of money the less you have to deal with it the better not to mention the pain of having to stop for gas more often with the smaller tank.
And with the recent spike in gas over night it would have been nice to be able to wait till they dropped back down again as they are supposed to in the next few days as i got gass right before the major increase adn though they went down like a cent yesterday I have to get it today which is still way higher (like 50 cents or more per/gallon) then when i got it middle of the week last week which was already higher then beginining of week while my mom on the other hand in teh RX 400h only has to get gas like once a month if that and by the time she needs it again prices will be down from end of last weeks early this weeks Katrina/Labor day record highs.
Hybrids cost a whole bunch more, you'd save money in the long run buying the regular gas versions. You don't buy them to save money.
order an Alfa Romeo badge and Alfa Romeo lettering
If you did that people would universally call it the best looking SUV ever. LOL

I saw another post of someone getting a 5 seat ltd with NAV. So it looks like this is available sooner then expected. Kind of sucks for many of us that had to get the 7 seater just for NAV like myself but there are other benefits like the rear air vent etc. and I didn't mind much considering I figured better to have it then not as when its down its no different other then then supposed extra weight. plus mine came with the rear cargo net instead of rear seat cargo net as that would then be in front of the third row seat when up and i got stuck with the small cargo tray which i never bothered switching with the larger as the dealer wouldnt' take it back.
My only other question is to this new availability of the 5seater ltd with leather i'm assuming and NAV previously unavailable is... is DVD an option and better yet though I like having it and it is a cool conversation piece especially with the ability to play on the front nav screen when in park which is great for tailgating my main question would be will they offer the rear audio inputs wihtout the dvd because that i actuallly use every day and though i wouldnt' have it any other way it prob isn't worth the 1800 dvd option i rarely use for those inputs but currently that is the only way to get them and i'm assuming that will stay the same if the dvd is even an option on teh 5 seat ltd with nav which i also dont see why not.
so while i would therefore still keep the dvd option especially for the audio inputs I guess i dont really need the thirdrow/7 seater if there is no remaing reason to have it. the rear vent though worth it wont be enough and while pleasing ppl that want the 5 seater and the NAV this will piss off ppl who bought early and had to get the 7 pass to get NAV and that is not smart to alienate or betray ppl who bought early as they wouldn't be able to sell any more at all if it were for the early adapters.
Other carr manufac. make you take all the options with their premium model. Ie. the Lexus 400h being the hybrid and top end of that model automatically comes wiht everthing including nav with no option to remove it.
Same should have been done with the Tribeca though options are great this should have been available from teh start and not later to cater to the whiners and alienate the early adaptors.
I don't think this creates buyer's remorse, if so noone would ever buy a 2nd computer, much less a new one every 3 years or so.

To me the only real review will be Consumer Reports.
I tried to complete the same survey a few weeks ago, and emailed them as well. Somehow I left it unfinished and returned to finish it (as per their email request), only to find the I now own an '05 OB XT....interesting! I never did get a response back, so they just lost out on my input, FWIW.

Well, I've officially betrayed Becky (the Tribeca's NAV system), and went ahead and got a Garmin portable, I'm calling her Ginger. The voice is not as sweet as Becky's, though, so I still miss her.
The integrated one does have a bigger screen, plus it lowers the radio volume when it gives commands, portable ones can't. But it does work just as well otherwise, plus I've used it in 2 different vehicles already.

I guess the bottom line is: after time, will you have regretted buying it, or will you recommend this type over a factory unit that is nicely integrated into the vehicle (and it's various systems, like the radio). We know the factory unit will be more expensive, and probably better designed. The question is: Is it worth the price difference?
Question: I'm assuming it plugs into a dash power outlet, correct? If so is that a problem? Is it using a power outlet that your cell phone or radar detector might be using, therefore not leaving you a place to plug those items in? If your car has only one or two power outlets, that could be a problem.
Bob
FYI, here are my reasoning for buying it (pre-purchase):

As you can see I have a lot to say (when is that *not* the case, LOL) so instead of repeating everything here, I'd suggest anyone interested follow those links and subscribe to that discussion.
In summary, so far I'm happy, under $500 is a lot cheaper than buying 3 new cars with NAV. Is it as good? Of course not, but it's still very useful.

There are so many more things to me that define the value quality proposition of a car: fit and finish, serviceability, ride, operations of controls and switches, quality of plastics used- all that the B9 passed with flying colors.
The real problem that lies within this car is the dependability of first model year vehicles- most of the components in this vehicle are manufactured in Japan, including Engine (most all components), Transmission, HVAC, Navigation (Kenwood), Rear Seat Entertainment (Kenwood), Information Display unit including Speedometer and Tachometer- so component wise, I don't foresee parts failing on their own, I see issues with the assembly of the subsystem. The auto workers in Lafayette Indiana are probably just getting used to putting these vehicles together, so as the months pass, I see less and less trouble.
When I bought my B9 ( 7psgr LTD Nav and DVD Beige Interior) I purchased the extended warranty total 8 Years 80,000miles from SofA I would recommend it ($650) to first year owners.
Out of curiosity I paid 35200 +tax for my B9, options include (above mentioned 7psgr limited, pearl white, beige leather, Navigation, DVD) puddle lights, auto dimming rear view mirror, cargo tray and net... What have you paid? I think this may help those with negotiating a price on theirs...
Most Subarus are made in Lafeyette, Indiana (Outback, Legacy, Baja, and B9 Tribeca). Hoosiers should be proud.
