droher - I posted your situation in another forum. Here's a response I got from "mayberryguy", who works at the Subaru plant in Indiana, where the Tribeca is constructed:

To set the record straight I don't work for Subaru. I work for a supplier, but that's all right.

I was contacted by Auto Week to provide pro & con comments on my B9, for possible publication in the Nov 11th edition.

Has any of you be contacted as well?

Has anyone else noticed if their rear hatch was rattling/loose/and making a squeaking noise? Mine is, having it serviced Sunday. *Proud new owner of a fully loaded sea foam green Tribeca 7 passenger limited!*

We saw one other post about this recently (maybe check back within the last week or so). So it sounds like some Tribecas need an adjustment. It's an easy fix, fortunately.

Very early on, a couple of '98 Forester owners figured this out, there's a strike plate with two screws that can be adjusted.

Since you're under the 12 month/12k mile "adjustment" period, I'd ask the dealer to take care of it for you.

it's using H7 (low beam) H3 (fog lights) I wonder if the sylvania silverstar will last as long for daylight use as well. As you all know we got daytime running lights. also, u guys noticed a big difference, looks much better & brighter?

The TPMS warning light came on while I was out and about last Sunday. I pulled into the nearest service station and verified that my tire pressures were all OK, but the light stayed on. With one brief exception, it has been on all week.

I talked to my local dealer's service manager yesterday to set up an appointment. He told me he had another Tribeca in with the same problem earlier in the week and that it was caused by a 2 pound differential in pressure in one of the tires. I told him that wasn't right, that it shouldn't come on unless there is a 25% difference, but he didn't agree.

My tires are all adjusted to the door plate - 33 in front, 32 in the rear - so I believe I truly have a sensor problem. It is going in Tuesday to be checked. In the meantime, I have been looking for some spec on what turns the warning light on, but I haven't found it. I know I didn't make that 25% figure up, but I don't know where I read it. Does anyone else recall seeing something about this?

The warning system won't be much use to anyone if it's so sensitive that 2 pounds activates it.

Put a small piece of black electrical tape over the warning light. ;)
  • subienewbie2subienewbie2 Member Posts: 458
My understanding is that it has nothing to do with difference between tires. Which would be a silly idea anyway. If all your tires are under inflated equally that means you would not get a warning light.

The warning comes on when it senses the pressure in any given tire is at or below 29psi. So it is rather simple, if the tire is properly inflated - then either the transmitter or receiver is the problem. And most likely it is the transmitter.

    Mike,

If you checked your pressure with "warm" tires and they were 33 and 32, then they are probably underinflated. You need to have them set at 33/32 when cold. I doubt TPMS takes temperature into account, so this may not affect the "false" warning.

My tire pressure warning light has turned on as well, but I did have low air in one rear tire. I have a good tire gauge and it indicated the pressure at 30PSI- I went ahead and raised all tires pressures to 34. No discernible change in ride quality and tire pressure monitor has remained off. I do think they are very sensitive and now that the weather is changing cold, alot more people are going to be seeing these warning lights turn on.

There are vehicles that monitor tire pressures based on ABS Wheel Speed Sensors: the tire with less air will rotate slightly faster than tires with normal air- hence low tire pressure warning. The only problem is that (unlikely) if all tires are equally low on air- the monitor won't indicate low air.

I also had the issue. the dealer inflated the tires checked when it was cold... he said the techs were told its 3 pounds of tire psi low for it to alert
  • mikejlmikejl Member Posts: 78
I just wanted to thank everyone for the numerous replies - it's all good information. Based on what was said here, I suspect a rear tire at 29 psi was the problem. The drop in pressure was probably due to the change in ambient temperatures in the last month. I always check tire pressure on cold tires, usually after letting the car sit overnight. The morning temps now are 30+ degrees colder than late September in this area.

On the first ride after re-adjusting the pressures Saturday morning the TPMS warning light was still on. On a second trip later in the day, the light was out and it has not come back on, so I'll cancel my service appt.

I've looked in the manuel for a list of light bulb numbers but the manuel only gives the numbers of the hi/low beams + fog lights + turn signals + reverse...It does not mention the brake lights or running lights it just gives the wattage of them (no size). Does anyone have a complete list of bulb sizes like sylvania has on other vechiles (they don't have the tribeca listed as of yet)? Thanks

Includes this interesting bit at the end: "Engineers are making changes to the cabin before sales start in a year’s time. European buyers expect higher quality interior plastics than their American counterparts, Subaru says."

I'd love to see what that interior will look like!
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
I've never seen that. I always take the burned out bulb to the store and look for an identical replacement. Some times the stores have books that help, but not for every type of bulb.

The interior is nice enough, I would focus on other things (backup camera) vs. what is already one of the nicest in the biz.

Euro-snobs, look at the BMW X3 is you want an interior that needs improvement.

The right side turned up cracked quite a while back, but I just saw the left side last night. The damage is much worse. Looks like I caught some rocks. I have a feeling this won't be cheap to fix.

While fueling up recently - I was chating with an X3 owner and he was admiring my B9. Even debadged, he knew what is was. He moved he from Poland and exlained that in Europe Subaru is consdered an upscale or high end brand and said that if a B9 was sold there it would be in $65,000 range.

If that is the case - I see why they are upgrading the interior. As much as I like my B9 - if it was that expensive I would buy one with the current interior

See the B9 Problems Forum - posted already about this on my B9

on the NAV system, its in the menu then user setup

then select -1 Hr. the mins are set via GPS but the hr is set by the user

I ment to say I would not by a B9 at the Euro price with the current interior.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
In Brazil Subaru is upscale, too. They cost about twice as much when you convert to dollars, and keep in mind they tend to earn much less.

Most brands other than VW, Citroen, Ford, and Chevy are upscale in Brazil. My cousin thought I was doing extremely well when he saw my Honda Accord.
  • b9erb9er Member Posts: 10
has anyone seen a front bra for our B9 yet? you guys know how much? Thnks.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
In Brazil, VW, Ford, Fiat, and Chevrolet all make mostly "Mille" vehicles, i.e. under 1000cc, or 1 liter of engine displacement.

Honda now makes the Civic and Fit in Brazil, Toyota makes a Corolla. Above that they get pricey.

Last night there was another street scene and the "same" mahogany Tribeca was seen from the rear just for a second. I think it's sort of funny for an apparent Dodge/MOPAR (My Old Pig Ain't Runnin') show to have the Tribeca be seen like that. Maybe coincidence or you think it's some sort of advertising scheme? Either way I think it is interesting to see it on a tv show.

I'm seeing more and more of them though. There is a blue one that parks in a garage in downtown Cincinnati that I see and I saw a green one this morning on the highway on my way to work or at least I'm pretty sure it was green. Hard to tell for sure. Can't wait to get mine, but it will be a while!

I've seen my first two Tribecas this week. First was just a glance when I exited the interstate and it passed by. The rear is just as distinct as the nose.
Then this morning I glanced in my mirror and saw the very distinct nose/grill. I slowed to let it pass. I think what I lke the most about it was a clean (visually) underside. Meaning I couldn't see suspension, spare tire, differental, muffler ect... just a clean line and two tail pipes.

A RX300 was also right in front of me. Tribeca looked nicer and more upclass.

Finally saw one on the road - in my small neighbor in fact. Bright white and brand new looking. It was followed by a steel grayish H2. Interesting contrast.

The Crew Chat is on for tonight - link is on the left.

I read a pretty funny comment recently, someone said the H3 was basically an economy pickup wearing a Halloween costume. :D

Underneath is a Colorado platform, engine/trans too, not exactly the most competitive compact truck.

I don't think I've seen an H3 yet; either that or I mistook it for a Cherokee. At least an H3 would be more likely to fit in my garage.

Did we get a sales report for September B9 sales yet btw?

  • robr2robr2 Member Posts: 8,805
I've actually seen quite a few H3's. The first one had NH environmental plates on it. compared to the H1 and H2 I could see it. But it was a bit ironic IMHO.
  • cluelesspacluelesspa Member Posts: 648
well I have seen up close (shopped the H3 against the B9) :)

the H3 was way underpowered... I would have got one if they had released the Turbo version they originally promised. but they are like 225 HP with tons more weight. only thing they have over the B9 is clearance! they have serious clearance and also they have the ability ford(spelling?) streams up to ? depth. Also they have optional Locking transmission for serious off roading.

    You mean October sale report?

For Oct. 2005, SOA reported 2093 Tribecas sold. Year to date is 9938. Not bad.

the H3 has 60 more HP and torque than my 91 S-15 Jimmy and they weight the same (4700lbs). My old Jimmy did just fine towing and getting into and out of the woods. The obsession for more power lives on.

Either way the Tribeca is much more refined. You actually compared the two? They seem like way different markets.
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
H3 stands out so much you'll remember every one you see. That's good or bad, depending upon your opinion of Hummer.

lol, coincidentally I did have an eye doctor's appointment this morning.

2,093 B9 sales for Oct. So what was the yearly target again? 40k wasn't it? No cigar yet.

    Steve, Host
  • ateixeiraateixeira Member Posts: 72,587
17k for this year, 35k annually after that.

They're below that, but at least they keep growing. Every month so far has been better than the last, but I think it'll level off around 25-28k per year.

shoot, if they sold 10,000 after 5 months, they should be able to meet/exceed the 17,000 target easily.

I have a B9 Tribeca, and an "EZ Pass" for the toll road. NYS DOT says that some cars have metal in the windshield, which may cause the tag not to work. Does anyone know if the Tribeca has any metal in the windshield? Thanks
