I have the sirius radio, and to my knowledge the monthly fee includes all nfl, nhl, etc. I have not actually tried it out, but there should be no additional charges...

anyone have any luch with any sprint products and the PTI, either cradle or bluetooth?
  • eelpouteelpout Member Posts: 32
anyone using a Sony Ericsson phone with the LR Bluetooth PTI? I can get it to pair up and all that, but the first time I try to use the phone to make a call (using the dial pad or voice control), the RRS ALWAYS goes through a sequence of dropping and then re-pairing up with the phone at the start of the call. so that the live call isn't picked up for about 15 seconds (i.e. audio coming through the car's speakers). it's weird. after the first call though everything works fine and any subsequent calls I make work as they should.

Anyone else seeing the same behavior? I uploaded the latest firmware into my K700i, but that made no difference. I think the problem is on the LR end.

I use TMobile and have a samsung. I want the capabilities of the factory PTI system, but according to Land Rover I have to have a Nokia phone and not with TMobile...does anybody know any different? I need to keep TMobile. I know I can get the Razr but I want the phone book, call log access, charging and external antenna features.

My dealer said the cost would be $500 for a cradle. Can you tell me your dealers name so that I can order from them. $120 is acceptable but $500 is crazy!
  • grommetgrommet Member Posts: 445
Cradles are available for select Nokia, Siemens & Sony-Ericsson phones. (See PDF.) No Samsung phones. It's always possible LR/Nokia will make more cradles, but don't hold your breath. Price of the cradles are not even close to $500; ask your parts department.
  • british_roverbritish_rover Member Posts: 8,502
That is nuts call parts directly and see what they say. I can't tell you the dealers name over the forum or they will remove the post. I can email you if you make your email public in your profile.

First off, thanks to everyone who replied to my previous post.

Now, on to the next one: I'm traveling for work & wont be back for a few days, but my girlfriend just called and apparently our HSE w/about 300 miles on it is giving multiple suspension faults. She says the vehicle is lowering and raising unevenly when stopped.

We have calls into the dealer, but any advice on what to tell her in the meantime? She says it seems drivable, but then again, she thinks a car with a completely flat tire is still "drivable" :)

I noticed a few others experiencing this in the rangerovers .net forum...

Has anyone heard if the dealer can install Sirius to a RRS if it did not come with the factory install. I have heard they can, yet, when I call the dealer they plead ignorance. Anyone know what I can do other than going out and buying the seperate tuner?
  • steverstever Guest Posts: 52,454
Actually posting dealer names and locations is fine - it's naming salespeople that gets to be a problem because people start shilling for individual salespeople.

My LR dealer is a bit unclear on the phones that are compatible. I currently have a Motorola v710 which works fine by Bluetooth in my RangeRover, but of course the features are limited. I am willing to switch phones and even plans to get the other features but am having trouble matching the list of compatible phones with those available to me here. Can you help?
    (1) Is there really a cradle for the Motorola v710 and if so which one?
    (2) I have available here the Nokia 6620 and 3120 and the Siemens S66. Will any of these work with cradles?

    Thanks for your time!
  • dentatedentate Member Posts: 4
One more note to add to my above message. According to the manual my Bluetooth connection should not allow call waiting through the PTI. Today I got a call while on the phone. A "Call waiting" dialog box appeared on the screen but the buttons for accepting or declining the call did nothing. I was then "frozen" with this dialog box on screen, no way to clear it. Interestingly, while it was displayed, I was able to use all of the v710's voice activation features through the Rangie's audio system; in other words, the full range of headset features were enabled while the system was frozen in this "call waiting" state. After shutting off the vehicle, everything was cleared. I tried several ways to get the functionality back but was not able to do it. This obviously means that a number of Bluetooth features are disabled. A software upgrade ought to fix this. Still would like to find out what the full list of phones and cradles is. The phone dealers say to ask the Land Rover salesmen, who just don't know.
  • LandRoverOwnerLandRoverOwner Member Posts: 24
Your salesman should know. There is a list from Land rover of currently approved phones, with software versions, carriers, which features work, etc... The Motorola V710 is not on the list. The list does say all over that call waiting must be disabled. If you are using a RRSport, and you have Verizon, there is only one approved cradle phone. I don't have the list on hand, or I'd tell you which one. It is a Nokia, though. Your 6220 will probably work, but I don't think it is on the list. I think the 6210 is.
  • dentatedentate Member Posts: 4
Thanks...that makes sense. Disabling call waiting would have avoided this problem, but it was still interesting to see that while I was in that state other features of the Bluetooth headset function were suddenly enabled. Clearly, better Bluetooth compatibility (allowing more of the phone features to work) is a matter of software. Guess since Nokia makes the cradles they have no great incentive to upgrade the software.

Someone on this thread posted that they had ordered a cradle for their v710 and that the dealer said it worked. I suspect that there are probably phones that work, but just have not been tested. If what this person says is correct, it is possible that someone has tried it out and found it OK. I hope we hear more about that before I go out and spend more money on a phone..
  • british_roverbritish_rover Member Posts: 8,502
The only phones that are on the list are the ones that have been tested extensively so I am sure there are more that will work. As more phones are tested and are found to cause no problems with the car then they will be added to the list. They are just being very careful because of Land Rover's past problems with electronics.

Is there just one cradle for the RRS, or are there different cradles depending on the phone you are using?
  • grommetgrommet Member Posts: 445
That's pretty much been asked and answered here. Use search.

Has anyone heard of a way to change destinations using the navigation system while driving? I realize the voice recognition will let you change to preprogrammed destination but it is annoying as hell to not be able to punch in a new address on the fly. Did Land Rover not realize that some of us actually travel with passengers who can type will we drive? Otherwise the car is great...

I purchased my Range Rover Sport 8/2/05 and it was been in for service 3 times...you see the sunroof leaks, and Land Rover considers it to be normal...I don't know about you but I should not have to wear a raincoat in my car when it rains or when I put it in a car wash.

Cheeck your car...put it in a car wash to see if it is leaking...please let me know ASAP.

I own a BMW X-5 and am about to trade it in for the RRS. It's really nice to be able to plug in my ipod into the glove box of my X-5, and have it integrated in the sound system. I asked the dealer and they said just plug it into the aux channel in the back seat, but he would check for the actual ipod adapter kit. I think that he forgot. Anybody aware if there is an option for the ipod. Of course it won't stop me from buying, but it would be nice. Any info would be appreciated.
  • 2006rrs2006rrs Member Posts: 9
I use my iPod vial the aux input. It isn't as integrated as the X5... but the RRS is a a lot nicer than the X5, so I guess it is a nice trade off. Would be nice if Land Rover and Apple could provide a true integration between the iPod and RRS.

unfortunately, all navi systems are like that, it is a federal regulation for safety.

I live in south florida, it is hurricane season, and i have washed my RRS many times without a problem, you should check into the lemon law...

Check my posts within the last two or three pages of the LR3 forum. There is a pic posted of an fm modulator i bought from monster (i know, i know, these things can be noisy) but this one works fantastic. There is the occasional interference from mobile phone traffic (that pulsing bzz bzz bzz that indicates a call is being made or received) but i think the sound quality overall is much better than the auxillary input. Plus the modulation connection doubles as a charger for your iPod. Just plug into the cigarette lighter (12v output) and move the slider switch to one of 5 fm freq. settings on the cable..tune your radio to that corresponding number..that's it..couldn't be simpler..they run about 50$ or so these days. The full ipod integration that bmw sells might work with your radio but don't take that as gospel..i'm not sure. But that one allows you to access your iPod from your steering wheel controls (although i've heard it's not completely intuitive so it might be better just to have the thing sitting in the cupholder and scroll the normal way with the scrollwheel...ehh..these things will get better eventually). I just know that some of the systems LR uses are similar or same to PAG, (denso nav. Harmon Kardon industries etc). Try it..it's worth the 50$..retail goes for around 80$ but shop around.. :)

    9197 MONSTER® IPOD FM TRANSMITTER + CHARGER

This is the newer version which connects to your iPod via the docking connector and NOT the headphone output. (i'm not sure if there were problems with the previous generation)

note* it's in a BMW but works just fine in my LR

I have used navigation systems in rental cars that you can change on the fly...

    Are those regulated differently?

Does anyone have an insight on whether this feature is ever going to be available as an option on RRS HSEs in North America. I could have sworn Land Rover USA's web site claimed "delayed availability on HSE", now the Quick Facts say Dynamic Response is "Standard on Supercharged model, not available on HSE":
    http://www.landroverusa.com/us/en/Vehicles/RangeRover_Sport/Overview.htm

I e-mailed Land Rover but got no reply. My 3 closest dealers all are (or act) clueless and keep trying to talk me into buying a Supercharged model instead. I really don't care about the extra power + oversized wheels of a SC (and don't want to spend the money for it), but the few road test reviews I read all seem to agree that Dynamic Response would be a very desirable handling option on this truck.

Is it so hard for one of these dealers to get on the phone / fax with LR UK and find out? I told them I'd be willing to wait, even a few months, if I knew for sure this option could be ordered, yet they only seem interested in selling me what they have on the lot today. This is an option already available on RRS HSEs sold in Europe, which p**ses me off even more considering I used to live over there and, back then, I could not afford a Land Rover... ;)

My wife's BMW has the absolute worst nav interface I have ever seen, but at least it can be programmed while the car is moving (which can be REAL dangerous to do for the driver, considering the awfully complicated input screens). My current aftermarket system, a Magellan 750nav which is pretty much the same as those found on Hertz rentals - great interface BTW - can also be programmed while moving (a "nag message" appears when you try to do that, but you can get rid of it simply by pressing Enter). If there is a federal regulation that prohibits programming a navigation system while a car is moving, it must be a new one and not very thorough, as many systems sold today are aftermarket, portable units (Garmin, Magellan, TomTom, etc.) that can be programmed anytime. And I bet a skilled technician would probably figure out a way to defeat this safety "feature" in most OEM systems.

If there is a federal regulation that prohibits programming a navigation system while a car is moving,

I think it's a factor of the comfort level of the legal departments of the various manufacturers, especially in the States.

Correct. And it's not just the vehicle manufacturers... it's also the Navigation system OEMs. :) Americans are the leaders at doing silly things and blaming others. :P

Like trying to program a NAV system in a moving vehicle and running me down, and then blaming LR or Garmin or TomTom when I try to collect, LOL.

Hmhh we just ordered cars and I don't remember if Dynamic Response was listed as something avaliable on the HSE RRS. I will be out of the office until Thursday but when I get back I will check for you. The last time I went looking for cars in the LRNA inventory I think I saw some HSE with DYN, which I belive is the option code for Dynamic Response, so like I said I will check for you thursday.

I was told by one of the service managers that I'm not the only one with this problem...please put your car in a car wash and let me know if it leaks.
Make sure you look around the sunroof, if it leaks you will be able to see small drops of water coming into the roof.
  • LandRoverOwnerLandRoverOwner Member Posts: 24
I still haven't seen a bulletin announcing that we can order the dynamic response option yet. It is supposed to be delayed availability for the HSE, but no one really knows how delayed that is. Win the LR3 & Bluetooth, they kept saying delayed, delayed, and it ended up being the next model year before it was available. I wouldn't bet that you'll be able to order one with dynamic response anytime soon. At the very least, it's another month until the next order call for RR Sport as far as I know.
  • umbertobumbertob Member Posts: 39
Thanks. After visiting a 4th dealership in my area and getting a response very similar to yours regarding the unknown "future" of Dynamic Response on HSE, at least for the short and medium term, I decided to pull the trigger on an HSE they had in the Showroom, fully loaded with every option (except Dynamic Response of course, and 20" wheels), Chawton white and black interior. This one also has a set of nifty running boards (which my "short" wife really appreciated), Land Rover 19" chrome wheels and black door moldings that I think look really sharp on the white paint. I am sure I overpaid on these dealer accessories, but the combination was irresistible to my eyes... :) And at least the dealer offered me good money on my high-mileage Volvo as a trade-in. I am very happy so far.

Regarding Bluetooth, my Verizon/Motorola V710 works very well and pairs immediately when I get in the car and start the ignition (my phone s/w version is 8700_1.40.0R, don't know if this makes a difference.) The phonebook / caller ID / battery meter features do not work (don't think they do with any Bluetooth phone), but everything else does. My dealer said there is no cradle for this model phone, he even showed me a list of cradles and all I remember seeing was a bunch of Nokias.

I just purchased mine about 3 weeks ago. I just ran mine through the car wash and Yes, the sun roof leaks - I could not believe it! It looks as if the roof needs to be adjusted so that when it closes it's fully closed - it looks as if it's not flush with the roof when it's closed. Poor QA by RR! I have not make an appointment yet to get this fixed. Let me know how you make out.
Have you had any other problems? Only thing (besides the roof) that is a problem is the center dash squeeks - ugh. The dealer is going to love me when I bring it back for repairs :-)
  • cfiallocfiallo Member Posts: 4
I would not know if I have any other problems...because my car has been at the service dept. most of the month (I have driven the car 9 day out of the month). Land Rover has no idea what's wrong with the sunroof - I'm not sure if it can be repaired. They have tried everything, even replaceing the glass, but nothing is working. The sad part about it, is that they do not want to take the car back, so I'm getting ready to file the lemon law and get an attorney. Land Rover's customer service SUCKS...no one from the company has even contacted me about my problem. Good luck to you... keep me posted on what happens with your car.

Interesting post. Mine doesnt leak during the washing part. I get a few drops that sprinkle in when I get the blast of air to dry. But thats about it. Dont get me wrong, I still plan on talking to the dealership but it sounds like you might be in far worse shape than me.

Press the hard button on the bottom right side of the touchscreen to reach the main menu, then touch "Settings". Touch "System Settings", then "Language" and then the UK flag to change the language of all navigation instructions to a British female voice. Touch the "back" arrow twice to go back to the Settings menu. Touch "Voice Settings", then "Voice Options" if you also wish to change the prompts of the Voice Recognition system to a British female voice (or something else). I have set up the Nav voice to US female 'cuz it's easier for me to grasp, but I really like the voice recognition to ask questions, repeat my commands and say "Sorry?" with that sexy UK accent... ;)

Anyone know where I can get a locking Gas Cap for my RRS? Strange that the gas door doesn't lock on these cars.... it did on my 2002 Disco!
  • umbertobumbertob Member Posts: 39
Same here. With the exception of US English - where you are given a choice of male or female voices - all other languages are female only (same for my native Italian, which I tried). That's actually kind of funny when you think about it, perhaps Land Rover figured that it was only a matter of time before a US driver would sue for sexual discrimination, while in Europe there is obviously no such chance.

Potential lawsuits must definitely be behind their decision not to allow navigation system programming while in motion or - in US-spec vehicles equipped with RSE such as mine - DVD playback on the front monitor, whether the car is in motion (which I agree with) or not (which I don't). I bet everywhere else in the wrld both options are probably enabled.

No, the Navigation motion feature lockout is world-wide. The RSES video/controls on front screen being disabled is a "North America" thing. It seems the silly engineers didn't even consider only enabling it while parked, so they just disabled it completely. :confuse:

After 4 days of mostly LA freeway driving - no offroading yet - on my new RRS HSE, these are my personal impressions about the truck:

    LIKES
    - The 4.4L engine is plenty powerful and so wonderfully smooth, even uphill I never feel it lacking, and merging on freeways is a breeze. It sounds sweet, too.
    - Fuel economy (admittedly mostly freeway driving and not a lot of traffic so far) averages 18.5mi/gal, not bad for a brand new truck with 14/19 EPA.
    - Very quiet and comfortable ride on just about any surface.
    - Steering is precise and "feels" just right at any speed. Haven't had a chance to see how the truck handles on twisty roads, but on freeways at full speed it feels like it's on rails.
    - Voice recognition system is wonderful for doing almost everything hands-free (phone, nav, radio tuning, etc.) and works much better than I expected. How could I ever live without it before?
    - Xenon headlights are very effective.
    - Navigation system is accurate and fast, and the display is quite legible. It's not even too difficult to program.
    - I love the firm, high seats (my wife thinks they are too firm, though) and still have plenty of head room and passenger space behind me (I am 6' 1").
    - Most controls are intuitive and just where they are supposed to be (exceptions below).
    - Fit and finish are superb everywhere - haven't been to a car wash to test the sunroof yet - and the premium leather really feels "premium". No squeaks or rattles anywhere.
    - The looks, of course. There is nothing as sharp looking on the road, and I don't see this SUV ever becoming a soccer mom favorite.

    DISLIKES
    - The stereo system. It's got tons of features and is plenty loud, but sounds kind of muddy no matter how much I fiddle with bass, treble and subwoofer settings. In the Showroom they demoed a DVD with DTS-encoded soundtrack to show off the RSE, and it sounded amazing. But for regular radio, CD and Sat radio I am not overly impressed, it sounds OK but my old Volvo's sounded better.
    - The gas door does not lock with the truck. With gas prices these days that's a major faux pas!
    - Unless you have a 5 ft. arm, you will have to stretch big time to reach the power window switches, why in the world did they stick them all the way over there? On top of that, only the driver window is 1-touch up/down.
    - No DVD playback on front monitor when stationary, no nav programming allowed while in motion (see earlier post).
    - The automatic headlights sensor seems overly sensitive, with the many overpasses on LA freeways my headlights turn on and off constantly. I wonder if there is a way of adjusting sensitivity down a notch.
    - Front headrests do not swivel back and forth, only go up and down. I guess it's because of the rear monitors angle in the back. They don't bother me, but I can see how it may be an issue for some people.
    - The key w/ transmitter is HUGE.
    - DVD playback and RSE controls should have been combined on the same screen.
    - Fuel tank is too small.
    - I wish more PTI cradles were offered for phones other than Nokias.

Does anyone know if the back seat dome lights are suppose to light up when the doors open? Mine don't. They work OK if I push the rocker switches to turn them on, but otherwise they never light up. The manual implies that they should. I made sure the interior light setting is set to "Automatic" as well (holding the center button on the front dome lights toggles the auto feature). I'm guessing they are suppose to, I also bet they are suppose to light up when the gate is opened too. Because that tiny light they have on the right side isn't enough.

As the Rover small A frame looks so useless and the metal bar covers the front park assist for the RRS, has anyone found any good aftermarket bars yet? Jaos is not going to make any.

Would be good to protect the front and back from knuckle heads.
  • umbertobumbertob Member Posts: 39
The two map lights above the rear seats don't light up in my car, either. I don't think they are supposed to. What does light up is the front dome light, the driver footwell light, a puddle light on each of the four doors, the right trunk light and the keyfob ring. I find the trunk light sufficient, and don't forget that you can always program the third button of the remote to turn on headlights and backup lights if you wish (once programmed, you push once for headlights, twice for headlights and backup lights, three time to turn both back off).

    > stereo system

Go into the audio menu and turn off Logic7. L7 works OK in the big RR, but you're right, it sounds muffled in the Sport. Everything sounds like it's coming out of the center speaker.
