Should I buy a used car from a rental car company with a lien on it?

I am looking at a used Mazda CX-5, but it is from Hertz and it has a lien on it. Does this matter? Is this normal with used rental cars? All of the other rental cars for the Mazda CX-5 all have liens on them from all of the big rental car companies. Why is this and is it a problem?

You should either get a clear title after you've bought the car from Hertz (some states' titles will allow for the lien holder to sign off), or you should ask for a letter from Hertz stating that the lien has been released. If you are paying cash, deal directly with the lien holder; if you're taking out a loan, give the details of the lien to your lender and let them do the payoff of the lien.

No one can sell a car with a lien on it. Hertz will pay off the lien and then sell the car with a clear tittle.
