Hi Otterway - before the MustangI've owned loads of convertibles, the worst being an MG TF - I have the same petrol filling problem with that, only it occurred with every petrol pump I went to - they supposedly "fixed" it under warrantly (they lied), but they reckoned it was a problem with the pipe being too narrow near to the inlet.
I've spoken to my local Ford dealer re the problems I've been having and, even without the warranty, I'm not confident at all that they could look at the petrol or radio problems I'm having. I've spoken to a guy a at local garage I use for my other old wrecks about servicing etc and he made enquiries of Ford US and they've told him that all he needs to do is purchase the software which comes with full diagnostics and tech specs etc. It'll cost him $40 + shipping.I might actually give him a try. at least I know he's good.
For info, I don't know where you are, but there's a couple of US air force bases near Mildenhall in suffolk. Needless to say there are a few good garages up there and quite a few places to get accessories and parts.Let me know how you get on with the Warranty.
Yes, I had the very same problem couple months ago with my Mustang. Went on vacation for a week, leaving the car in the garage. Upon returning and attempting to start it, it wouldn't start. When I checked the charge, it was below 12 volts. Charged it up and haven't had the same problem since. However, new ones have taken its place weeks later.
Having sat overnight in the garage, I tried starting it the next morning, but couldn't. Checked the voltage as I did previously and found that it had a full charge. I had the car towed to the dealership, but they could not diagnose the problem. After a few days in the shop it just fixed itself out of the blue. The car started fine. Thinking that possibly there was a short caused by a water leak into the engine compartment past the hood, they sprayed it with a hose over an extended period of time, but could not reproduce the electrical failure. This particular problem has not occurred again, but of coarse it was replaced with yet another electrical problem that is threatening my safety on the road.
Now the car dies while driving it on the road. My message center gives me a indication that the engine is in "Fail safe Motor Mode. I pull off the road, come to complete stop, turn off the ignition and try to start it up. It fires up right away and no diagnostic messages. This has happened five times in the last four weeks. Again I take it to the dealer, this time under its own power, and they find no problem codes stored in the cars computer. They then have a tech drive it five days with a mobile diagnostic computer hooked up to the car, but of coarse the engine never dies on him.
I know this long winded chronology doesn't provide you with a solution to your similar electrical problems. However, I'm hoping that there is someone out there with the same problems we've experienced and whose dealer or mechanic has come up with a solution. Please anyone, help us!
Thanks for the info. My dealer just got the parts in from the strut manufacturer and put them on the struts. It appears to have cured the problem of popping.
Had brake squeak from the day I bought my 05 V6. The dealer found that my bad disks or rotor appeared glazed. He tried roughening with the surface with some means of abrasion, but that only minimized the squeak somewhat. New brake pads were then put in and gone is the squeak. Have your dealer check for the same glazed condition.
I purchased my 2005 V-6 in January and enjoyed it for about two months. Since then, nothing but unresolved problems.
Fuel gauge has ready empty for three months. I've been to two different dealer's service departments, and no one can figure out how to fix the problem. The best they can offer is to use "Chevron Fuel System Cleaner". I tried but no difference.
Check engine light has been on steady for two months. Again, service manager's don't know what's wrong or how to fix.
After leaving car in garage for 1-week while on vacation, battery was complety discharged (no power at all). Dealer's service manager told me that this is normal for all today's cars - I was foolish for expecting the battery to hold a charge longer than a week.
Also, strange "clunking" sound from rear end when shifting into reverse. I haven't even bother to have service look at this yet.
Should have kept my old car. It had 120,000 miles on it and had less problems than this new vehicle.
Yes, I've also had this problem once (so far). Left my new car in garage for 1 week and battery was totally drained (not enough power for dash lights to come on). Dealer checked out car and said they could find nothing wrong. Told me not to expect car to start after leaving it sit for 1 week. Is that the new standard for Ford vehicles? My parents have an old Taurus that sits for months, and it always starts fine.
azspin, Have you made contact with the zone office yet? I can't believe that a dealer told you to use fuel additive to fix a stuck tank gauge!. Same with the battery, the dealer is lying to you. Even if they can't fix it , someone can. Perhaps if you post what area of the country you live in, someone on this board can send you towards a dealer with a better service department. If you go the zone office route, keep us posted what happens. Important!!! Keep records of ALL transactions, communications, etc. including time, date, and EXACTLY who you spoke to. Lastly if your state has a "Lemon Law" print it off your State's web site and carry it to the dealer, right into the GM's office and ask him if he know's what it is, and watch the repairs fly! Don't blame the car. As has been previously stated, any new (from the ground up) design will have a few bugs, and I think that overall the new 'Stang has fewer than most, more than others. Most of the early production problems I've heard of have been addressed, and TSB's cover most of what got through. That's why new cars have warentees. Don't let a shoddy dealer bully you out of your warrantee or a great car.
It seems as if the New Mustang should not be boughten until all the kinks are gone out.
The reason I want to know, is because my friend has an 04 mustang. I like it's performance and handling, and they're the only car by ford that has receieved the best rating (5 problems / 100 vehicles) on consumerreports
Besides of the fact that I love sports cars, I want to know whether buying a ford mustang will leave me with a bad new car experience, seeing that most have had nothing but repetitive problems with the new mustang?
Yeah, sounds like you got a problem. Maybe there is some kind of power draw on your system that is killing the battery. Maybe the radio. I've had the V6 for about 3 months now and have left it sitting for two weeks and starts up just fine. Not that I don't love driving it but work takes me out of town at times. The other idea is drain your battery totally dead and charge it with a slow charger that in a sense teaches the battery how to hold the charge. Charging quickly by the alternator does not always do this. Good luck.
Wondering if any of you have put large rims on your 05? I wanted to put the largest I could, well and not have it look wacky, and I was told 20" with 245/35/20 tires. A 35 mm tread wall is tiny..... just asking to be rubbed against some curbs. If any of you have had low profile I am sure you know curbs are not your friend. I wanted a larger profile honestly but was advised of the possibility of it rubbing the wheel well. Anyway, I will say that the turning radius to my knowledge was not reduced at all with my 20'S. I think the Mustang has great radius, at least to the smaller GM I had before. If any of you have please let me know the size and how you like them.
I have a sport appearance package on my 2005 convertible. I was washing it and removed the spinners. Behind the spinners on the rear tires, the wheel was pretty rusted. I called my salesman and he said that was totally normal. I noticed that the front two wheels had plastic cups behind the spinners so you couldnt see if there was rust there. The vehicle is only 3 months old. Can anyone tell me if this is in fact "totally normal"?
I'm always amused by folks who read a thread about "Problems and Solutions" and make the assumption that because people are posting, that "most" people have the same problems.
It's like having a thread devoted to the pros and cons of a Black Mustang and then have someone assume that most Mustangs are black......
It seems that the only problem, the major one, is the gas tank filling. Anyone, who has boughten a mustang in the recent month, know whether this has been fixed yet?
My Mustang is absolutely fantastic. The body was delivered in flawless condition - just like any Japanese car would be. I have had no problem since I purchased the car 4 months ago. The ride, transmission, and engine are smooth. The exhaust sounds so sweet. All controls work fine. The car is a real head turner. You may be just looking at a small sampling. From what I have read Ford built 190,000 of them.
My Mustang which I received in June has none of these problems. I heard Ford had solved almost all the TSBs with cars coming off the line after April. I did have a problem filling fuel at one Mobil station, but that was the only time in 2 months and it fueled fine after I tilted the nozzle a little.
To make a long story short, I have GT conv. It was flatbeded to the dealer twice plus it happened at the dealer once, the first time it sat in the my garage 3 days tried to start it, battery dead, but at the dealer, started right up. The second time sat in the garage a few days battery dead, back to the dealer. This time they did the water thing on the windshield with the "water doctor" found water on the inside of car at the passenger footwell where the computer is, sealed the leak and put in new computer.Had factory engr. to check it out, he put it on a 24hr. test no amperage draw. could not find anything wrong. Went to pick it up, guess what, battery dead. Factory engr. back out, more testing. He didn't find anything wrong.I had some of the same conversation with the service mgr.about the battery lasting only a week I told him Ford should put in better batteries. He also told me that maybe I left something on He evidently foregot Mustang's have battery savers that are supposed to shut things off after a max. of 30 min.and they had put in a new computer that had that programed in. The factory engr. said he could not find anything wrong so give it back to the customer. The dealer's tech checked the battery one more time and said it was a bad battery after checking it twice before. Replaced the battery I have had the car back for two and half weeks, so for so good. The real test will be at the end of the month, the car will be setting in the garage for three and half weeks while we are on vacation!
i realize this is a little off base but the other mustang board seems to not be travled any more. so i go to where the pony lovers meet. iv had to mustangs 88 lx convertable ( t-boned 2 yrs ago) and a 86 gt 5.0 ( went caput 3 yrs ago) so if u would please spare a little time and read my rant and maybe give some advice or otherwise, i would greatly appriciate it.
i just got a 86 mustang gt 5.0 hatchback for free. u can only guess the body as it was "free" it doesnt have the original motor iether, i havnt had much luck figuring out what motor it is or from what yr or make the engine came from. i have pinpointed it down to a 351 HO , or windsor, maybe even a cleavland.to boot it hasnt ran in a yr but when it did it ran tops. 5 spd.
real question is, should i invest time on making a fast mustang or invest time on making a fast buck selling parts. body's got rust, lol not to sure on the frame (the car is 3 county's away and i have to tow it to my place for further exam ) interior, well u get the idea...
any input would be great, hell maybe even a deal!!
Had my '05 V-6 convertible for 1,200 miles. Taking the top off the other day and when I released the latch, snap and the part that attaches to the windshield snapped off. I can not put my top back on. Dealer doesn't know what to do yet. This is a real potential safety issue. The metal appears to be a cast iron or white steel that is very brittle and will not hold up with stress and will weaken over time. My fear is that the load from driving at 80 mph down the highway, could break the part and the top goes flying off down the highway. Anyone got a similar problem? I would expect a recall on that... Must have been a rookie engineer for that design.
1. My top had to be completely replaced before I even took delivery of the car. (Cloth came unglued from the glass on the outside.) 2. Takes 15 minutes to put gas in the car. 3. Door handle does not snap back into place like it should. (Just a loose spring). I have not had any mechanical or electrical problems. Overall I love the car, knew it would have a few problems being early in the production cycle, -- it is much more reliable than my wife's 2004 Mercedes C240 Wagon has been (and a lot faster).
My GT convertible was delivered July 5. From reading this forum, it sounds like most of the electrical and gas problems (which would affect both coupes and convertibles, obviously) were fixed by the later production dates. Now it sounds like the bulk of complaints are moving to the convertible feature.
On mine, it seems like the the roof latch has to "pull" the top down on closing because the mechanism doesn't fully lower the top to the windshield. I have worried about the strength of that latch.
Also, the driver window will often lower itself automatically after it's been raised. When this happens a couple of times in the same session, I'll open and close the driver door, and then it stays up. Not a huge problem, but it definitely diminishes the cool factor. When something is supposed to stay up, you certainly don't want it going down by itself.
Duplicative perhaps, repetitive, I think not. After reading this whole thread, it seems that there are several duplicate problems, and as I have ordered an 06 GT, I hope most if not all of the problems will have been fixed. Windveil blue, autotrans, bright 17 inch wheels, spoiler delete, interior upgrade, black cloth, and an offer I could not refuse: $26015 plus TTL, sounds like a 1500 dollar discount to me. So much for MSRP if you shop around. I looked at 5 or 6 other cars, and after much thought, I came to the conclusion that the GT Stang is worth having, even if it has a few bugs, hopefully, dead bugs, and now the price is right.. In case you may think this is a bogus price, I have a sales contract signed by the OWNER of the dealership at the above stated price.
Can the Decklid Spoiler be removed easily after taking delivery of the V6 Premium Convertible Mustang??? Can a dealer do this easily?? Thanks- Getting ready to buy a Mustang V6 Premium Convertible for my wife!!
Hello all, Just a word of warning. My '05 GTs AC just suddenly stopped working the other day. I checked fuses etc but all were OK. Took it into the dealer and they found the problem. One of the high pressure AC pipes had been rubbing against the oil dipstick pipe. I guess the heat and constant rubbing had been enough to cut its way through the AC pipe to the point where all of the gas leaked out. Go check yours now! You should see two pipes (sliver in color) that pass next to the oil dipstick sheath. Pull them away from it or youll probably get the same problem.
My GT premium with IUP, side airbags and active anti-theft has had zero problems.
Just got back from vacation. I was gone for 10 days. Had to take a drive in the 'Stang. It fired right up.
As most everyone else said, I think the early ones had some minor issues with refueling and skipping CD players, but there were running "fixes" on the production line and TSBs issued for those who had those problems.
I had the problem with my fuel gage reading empty when it was really 3/4 full or completely full. Ford had to replace my fuel sending unit/sensor twice to fix the problem. The service manager said it had something to do with some exposed wires touching or something of the sort. Having the gage read empty caused my check engine light to come on and stay on. After the 2nd replacement, I haven't had any more problems.
I bought a 2005 V6 in March and to this point I have not had any problems except for a knocking sound that seems to be coming from the driver's side of the dash board. The weird thing is that it only starts to make noise when I reach 70 MPH or higher. I took it in to my Ford dealer and of course they could not hear the noise. I was wondering if anyone else has been having this problem, and if so any recommendations??
I've had vibration noises on my GT dash from the get go. I took it in once and did a drive with the service manager and he played deaf. I was able to stop the noise by place a small rubber shim in a couple spots between the dash and where the instrument panel starts. You got to just try pressing down or up in some different spots when it does the noise to isolate it and then hopefully you are able to fix it with something like I did. Good luck!
Has anyone noticed an excessive amount of heat coming from the floor board by the transmission hump between the front seats? I reached down to grab my purse and actually burnt my fingers on the metal rail the passenger seat sits on. Not to mention all my lipstick was melted! "That's hot"
Also, my shaker 1000 speaker in the trunk has a rattle that sounds like strawberry packages rubbing together. Of course, turning the volume all the way up while listening to 50 cent cures this problem! :-)
My car's problem started like this but now it doesn't overtake 80km/h.It can make 7000rpm normally. Its like if at 80km/h the automatic transmission stops working.I have already change all filters but i still have this problem.what can be the problem thanks
Yeah....I'm not really following either. I don't think there's a 100 different posters that are in this thread. OF those, some had issues that really weren't issues. Some had legitimate issues.
What I was saying, based the problems people have had already, it seems that that there aren't that much. Its just with gas filling problems and some electrical with the cd player.
So as a comparison to the reliability of the 03 and 04 mustangs, would you say the redesigned 05s would be just as reliable as the past models. They seem so far to me that they are. I was just wondering you all are in agreement.
green....of the first one's produced (say, through mid March this year), some had the slow fuel fill issue. That was taken care of on the production line and those that had the issue, the TSB took care of that.
There were some skipping Shakers among that first batch, too. Again, production changes took care of the later ones with a TSB taking car of the rest.
Some have had some sort of "popping" sound when making a hard, low-speed turn. Those were handled by a TSB, also.
Outside of that, I've seen a couple of people say their 'verts top needs to be stretched out to fit correctly, but I think that's a common issue with all convertibles until the new top stretches out a bit.
There have been some who, for whatever reason, haven't liked the sound (don't understand that) of the GT engine. And others who don't like the ride. But, I don't know if those are issues, or what I suspect, they didn't know they were buying a rip roaring pavement terror. They most likely bought the looks, but wanted something more sedate.
Jagsowner, Hope I didn't respond too late, but there is a "spoiler delete" option available when ordering a new 'Stang. Rather than patching up holes on a brand new car, avoid the holes entirely!. Good luck, your wife will be pleased (and so will you) :shades:
p-lover, Had you noticed before the breakage that it was difficult to latch the top? THere have been a couple posts to that effect, and to be honest, mine is a little difficult as well, although I haven't snapped a latch yet. As GraphicGuy said, I would think that a brand new 'vert top would be a little tight as the fabric will definitely stretch over time. I can't speak from experience as this is my first convertible. Of course you have me a tiny bit worried. Keep us informed what the dealer's resolution is. Meantime you can stop the forearm curls!
I checked under the hood and saw the two silver A/C pipes. They are wrapped in some insulation-type wrap. On my GT, they are at least 1 1/2 inches away from the dipstick. Seems pretty safe on this one.
I have the Shaker 500 in my 05 Mustang. I would like to get Sirius satelite radio. Has anyone installed satelite? I would prefer not to have a seperate radio box or docking station ruin the appearance of my interior. Would I be better off buying a new stereo with Surius built in? Any input would be appreciated. I would think an aftermarket replacement radio would not fill the space that the current radio takes up.
Has anyone installed a GPS system in their '05? I understand Pioneer's AVIC d1 is pretty good and fills the double din spot with a factory like appearance. Also, has anyone had an iPod adapter added to their shaker?
Check out Precision Interface Electronics' website for an iPOD adapter for the Shaker. The Pioneer AVIC-D1 does fit well. I've also read on other Mustang Forums that the AVIC-N2 will also work. I suggest going to Crutchfield's site and using their "What fits my car?" link in the upper right of the page. I found 7 GPS Nav units which fit my GT with a Shaker 500.
Hi I just received my mustang back a few weeks ago from getting a new shaker 500 put in and the white lettering on the volume buttons etc.. is not lighting up green at night is it supposed to? Because i'm pretty sure on my other one the white lettering lit up green at night when I turned on all my lights and stuff to drive at night . someone please let me know i'd appreciate it thanks.

Uh, the "35" in a 245/35-20 tire does NOT mean the sidewall is 35 mm.
The "35" is the ASPECT RATIO and mearly means the height of the sidewall is 35% the width of the tire.
For a 245mm tire width, this would mean the sidewall is approximately 245 x 35% = 85mm (about 3-3/8" high).
