Ford Mustang (2005 & newer) Problems and Solutions

I've spoken to my local Ford dealer re the problems I've been having and, even without the warranty, I'm not confident at all that they could look at the petrol or radio problems I'm having. I've spoken to a guy a at local garage I use for my other old wrecks about servicing etc and he made enquiries of Ford US and they've told him that all he needs to do is purchase the software which comes with full diagnostics and tech specs etc. It'll cost him $40 + shipping.I might actually give him a try. at least I know he's good.
For info, I don't know where you are, but there's a couple of US air force bases near Mildenhall in suffolk. Needless to say there are a few good garages up there and quite a few places to get accessories and parts.Let me know how you get on with the Warranty.
Having sat overnight in the garage, I tried starting it the next morning, but couldn't. Checked the voltage as I did previously and found that it had a full charge. I had the car towed to the dealership, but they could not diagnose the problem. After a few days in the shop it just fixed itself out of the blue. The car started fine. Thinking that possibly there was a short caused by a water leak into the engine compartment past the hood, they sprayed it with a hose over an extended period of time, but could not reproduce the electrical failure. This particular problem has not occurred again, but of coarse it was replaced with yet another electrical problem that is threatening my safety on the road.
Now the car dies while driving it on the road. My message center gives me a indication that the engine is in "Fail safe Motor Mode. I pull off the road, come to complete stop, turn off the ignition and try to start it up. It fires up right away and no diagnostic messages. This has happened five times in the last four weeks. Again I take it to the dealer, this time under its own power, and they find no problem codes stored in the cars computer. They then have a tech drive it five days with a mobile diagnostic computer hooked up to the car, but of coarse the engine never dies on him.
I know this long winded chronology doesn't provide you with a solution to your similar electrical problems. However, I'm hoping that there is someone out there with the same problems we've experienced and whose dealer or mechanic has come up with a solution. Please anyone, help us!
Fuel gauge has ready empty for three months. I've been to two different dealer's service departments, and no one can figure out how to fix the problem. The best they can offer is to use "Chevron Fuel System Cleaner". I tried but no difference.
Check engine light has been on steady for two months. Again, service manager's don't know what's wrong or how to fix.
After leaving car in garage for 1-week while on vacation, battery was complety discharged (no power at all). Dealer's service manager told me that this is normal for all today's cars - I was foolish for expecting the battery to hold a charge longer than a week.
Also, strange "clunking" sound from rear end when shifting into reverse. I haven't even bother to have service look at this yet.
Should have kept my old car. It had 120,000 miles on it and had less problems than this new vehicle.
Have you made contact with the zone office yet? I can't believe that a dealer told you to use fuel additive to fix a stuck tank gauge!. Same with the battery, the dealer is lying to you. Even if they can't fix it , someone can.
Perhaps if you post what area of the country you live in, someone on this board can send you towards a dealer with a better service department.
If you go the zone office route, keep us posted what happens. Important!!! Keep records of ALL transactions, communications, etc. including time, date, and EXACTLY who you spoke to.
Lastly if your state has a "Lemon Law" print it off your State's web site and carry it to the dealer, right into the GM's office and ask him if he know's what it is, and watch the repairs fly!
Don't blame the car. As has been previously stated, any new (from the ground up) design will have a few bugs, and I think that overall the new 'Stang has fewer than most, more than others. Most of the early production problems I've heard of have been addressed, and TSB's cover most of what got through. That's why new cars have warentees. Don't let a shoddy dealer bully you out of your warrantee or a great car.
The reason I want to know, is because my friend has an 04 mustang. I like it's performance and handling, and they're the only car by ford that has receieved the best rating (5 problems / 100 vehicles) on consumerreports
Besides of the fact that I love sports cars, I want to know whether buying a ford mustang will leave me with a bad new car experience, seeing that most have had nothing but repetitive problems with the new mustang?
Note the name of this topic:
" most have had nothing but repetitive problems with the new mustang"
I don't believe this statement is true.
Daniel
Thanks,
Daniel
Uh, the "35" in a 245/35-20 tire does NOT mean the sidewall is 35 mm.
The "35" is the ASPECT RATIO and mearly means the height of the sidewall is 35% the width of the tire.
For a 245mm tire width, this would mean the sidewall is approximately 245 x 35% = 85mm (about 3-3/8" high).
It's like having a thread devoted to the pros and cons of a Black Mustang and then have someone assume that most Mustangs are black......
i realize this is a little off base but the other mustang board seems to not be travled any more. so i go to where the pony lovers meet. iv had to mustangs 88 lx convertable ( t-boned 2 yrs ago) and a 86 gt 5.0 ( went caput 3 yrs ago) so if u would please spare a little time and read my rant and maybe give some advice or otherwise, i would greatly appriciate it.
i just got a 86 mustang gt 5.0 hatchback for free. u can only guess the body as it was "free"
it doesnt have the original motor iether, i havnt had much luck figuring out what motor it is or from what yr or make the engine came from. i have pinpointed it down to a 351 HO , or windsor, maybe even a cleavland.to boot it hasnt ran in a yr but when it did it ran tops. 5 spd.
real question is, should i invest time on making a fast mustang or invest time on making a fast buck selling parts. body's got rust, lol not to sure on the frame (the car is 3 county's away and i have to tow it to my place for further exam ) interior, well u get the idea...
any input would be great, hell maybe even a deal!!
(Cloth came unglued from the glass on the outside.)
2. Takes 15 minutes to put gas in the car.
3. Door handle does not snap back into place like it should. (Just a loose spring).
I have not had any mechanical or electrical problems. Overall I love the car, knew it would have a few problems being early in the production cycle, -- it is much more reliable than my wife's 2004 Mercedes C240 Wagon has been (and a lot faster).
On mine, it seems like the the roof latch has to "pull" the top down on closing because the mechanism doesn't fully lower the top to the windshield. I have worried about the strength of that latch.
Also, the driver window will often lower itself automatically after it's been raised. When this happens a couple of times in the same session, I'll open and close the driver door, and then it stays up. Not a huge problem, but it definitely diminishes the cool factor. When something is supposed to stay up, you certainly don't want it going down by itself.
Thanks-
Getting ready to buy a Mustang V6 Premium Convertible for my wife!!
Just a word of warning. My '05 GTs AC just suddenly stopped working the other day. I checked fuses etc but all were OK. Took it into the dealer and they found the problem. One of the high pressure AC pipes had been rubbing against the oil dipstick pipe. I guess the heat and constant rubbing had been enough to cut its way through the AC pipe to the point where all of the gas leaked out.
Go check yours now! You should see two pipes (sliver in color) that pass next to the oil dipstick sheath. Pull them away from it or youll probably get the same problem.
Just got back from vacation. I was gone for 10 days. Had to take a drive in the 'Stang. It fired right up.
As most everyone else said, I think the early ones had some minor issues with refueling and skipping CD players, but there were running "fixes" on the production line and TSBs issued for those who had those problems.
I was wondering if anyone else has been having this problem, and if so any recommendations??
Thanks.
Also, my shaker 1000 speaker in the trunk has a rattle that sounds like strawberry packages rubbing together. Of course, turning the volume all the way up while listening to 50 cent cures this problem! :-)
thanks
Would most of you agree?
So as a comparison to the reliability of the 03 and 04 mustangs, would you say the redesigned 05s would be just as reliable as the past models. They seem so far to me that they are. I was just wondering you all are in agreement.
There were some skipping Shakers among that first batch, too. Again, production changes took care of the later ones with a TSB taking car of the rest.
Some have had some sort of "popping" sound when making a hard, low-speed turn. Those were handled by a TSB, also.
Outside of that, I've seen a couple of people say their 'verts top needs to be stretched out to fit correctly, but I think that's a common issue with all convertibles until the new top stretches out a bit.
There have been some who, for whatever reason, haven't liked the sound (don't understand that) of the GT engine. And others who don't like the ride. But, I don't know if those are issues, or what I suspect, they didn't know they were buying a rip roaring pavement terror. They most likely bought the looks, but wanted something more sedate.
Hope I didn't respond too late, but there is a "spoiler delete" option available when ordering a new 'Stang. Rather than patching up holes on a brand new car, avoid the holes entirely!.
Good luck, your wife will be pleased (and so will you) :shades:
Had you noticed before the breakage that it was difficult to latch the top? THere have been a couple posts to that effect, and to be honest, mine is a little difficult as well, although I haven't snapped a latch yet. As GraphicGuy said, I would think that a brand new 'vert top would be a little tight as the fabric will definitely stretch over time. I can't speak from experience as this is my first convertible. Of course you have me a tiny bit worried. Keep us informed what the dealer's resolution is. Meantime you can stop the forearm curls!
