I bought this CPO in January of 2015 and paid around $40k. I am now considering another vehicle, and best bid on a trade in is $24k. Do these depreciate this fast or did I overpay upfront?

You paid retail, plus paid for a warranty. Now, you are selling wholesale. So, it's mostly that, plus depreciation. Don't have historic pricing, so not sure how good your deal was.
