Yup, early Prelude. Quite rare now but common in these parts at one time.

Good eye Tex, the rig on the left edge of the deck is the gizmo with lights to signal incoming aircraft if they are in correct position to land on deck. The low slung yellow vehicles are tractors for towing planes on deck. As for cars on the bottom just to right of a Pinto hatch
is a 1st gen Honda Prelude ('80-'83?). Most of the cars visible are post Vietnam era (after 1975)

Late 70s corolla hatch In front of a red screaming chicken firebird. And cute how tiny a rabbit looks in between a caprice 2 door and the early 70s satellite.

Definitely an LN7, I think the EXP gained the bubble rear window later in life. Car behind the U-Haul looks like a Pinto to me, Amusing to me that the U-Haul is being towed by a Datsun B210 - I bet that was fun.

There's one oldie in the pic, too.

Is it the '65 Plymouth (Belvedere?)?
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,623
Stickguy found it, 57 Chevy sedan just to the right of a GMC stepside pickup wearing a small canopy, upper right.

Orange Austin America bottom right just to right of the Firebird
Candidate for the oldest car would be the 57(?) red & white Chevrolet towards the top right
However that old green Ford pick up - next to the grey Gremlin - looks ancient but I have no idea how you date those.
Is that light blue car behind the u-haul trailer a Mercury Bobtail? - which I think was a Pinto restive - it looks Pinto but not quite right, as ab says

Close on the Ford pickup, that's a 58-60.

Not sure about Pinto vs Bobcat rear ends. The fronts were heavily differentiated though. That reminds me when I was a young teen, a retired dentist down the street had a pristine Bobcat woody wagon, a car that would probably get crazy bids now, there was something charming about it in a way. But one day in the early 90s a negligent driver turned left in front of him IIRC, and that was it.

a pair of 58 Chevy 2 doors. The white one is partially blocking a white foreign car that I can't quite tell what it is. Maybe a Dauphine?

It is a '52, '53 or '54 Nash. If I could only see the grille and back of the hood.

The color of the 61 Chevy Biscayne behind the 58 Chevy is the same color of my grandmother's 62 Olds Dynamic 88 sedan which she traded for her specially ordered 68 Cutlass S coupe. The color on the 62, even clean looked dull and blah.

Yup, the grey roadster is an Austin-Healey Sprite Mk.1, a minimal automobile with no frills and not much power that is huge fun to drive or even ride in. It was known as the "Bug-eye" on this side of the pond, the Brits called it a "Frog-eye."

The more conventionally styled Mk.2 was known as the "Spridget" since it was a near twin to the MG Midget but the Mk.1 had no equivalent in the MG stable.

    Joisey plate?

The stuck on composite stone cladding on bay window of the old building with the ladies looking out is very similar to the cladding all over my grandma's mid century rambler, it's even on an inside wall.

Too much stuff on top of the nose to be a Ford.
Looks like one of those mid 50s Dodges with the two tone, two level hoods.

MG T series bottom right heading onto bridge. A couple newer ramblers coming off the downslope, and a Porsche 356 mid span.

heading away, 4th car up in front of a Pontiac behind a white Ford, what is that little car? Resembles the shape of a Beetle but isn't.

It's a Renault 4CV. Forerunner (in the USA) of the Dauphine.

Searchlight NV is a pretty minimal town, a perfect place for a junk...er... recyling yard.

The oldest car is the mid-50s Ford, by quite a few years.

I looked up Searchlight Nevada and apparently its's the birthplace of Airman Nellis, who they named the base after.
Probably not enough to mean it would be on many tourist itineraries though.

The fender looks like the 427 emblem and the body/trim is late 1963 Ford Galaxie with the fastback roof. Don't think the slapper bars were stock but I had Lakewoods on my Torino. (Minus the 427 R code) :disappointed:
