I find that the two General Motors SW1s, 83 + 77, were still working together in August 1973!

A 60 Ford and the rear of a 56 Ford four door, probably a Fairlane.

Hey a '60 Ford 4-poster behind the Studebaker Lark wagon. Why is almost every car apparently white?

My eye was drawn to the '58 Ambassador. I don't know exactly why, it's just so square and funky. Of course, it may had something to do with the fact that it was about the size of an early Studebaker Lark and had 250 hp.

I've been to St George Utah too... It was our first stop out of Vegas on a holiday in September 2002, just because it was convenient for the Zion Canyon Nat Park. Nice little place but we didn't know about the problems with nukes that had happened in the past.

I remember a hill at the back of town with a large G (or maybe SG) on it I think which was to show it was St George and other towns had similar letters - guy in the diner where we had breakfast said they all had those letters to help guide early commercial pilots in the twenties

Ford must have had a deal in 1960 with the national association of press photographers or someone to get all these cars in every shot...

Studebaker Lark wagon ahead of todays example, and two 52 Chevrolets behind it (one beyond the rail crossing)

is the light green car partially into the spot a big Jag or a Daimler? Doesn't quite look like a Rolls.

Also a VW bug hiding behind one of those bugs.

Is that a Rolls next to the 49/50 Ford convertible?
  • andys120andys120 Member Posts: 23,672
The smaller red tour busses are White Motor Coaches. They still use some at Yellowstone.
The only import readily visible is the gray Jag (Mk7?) sedan next to a blue Shoebox Ford ragtop.

Across the way behind a knot of people is a small white sedan but I can't make out what it is.
Newest cars I see are '53-54 vintage.

    Well, there's a '46, '47, or '48 black Pontiac in there.
I would need to see the grille.
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,234
Is that pinkish car next to the blue & white Chevrolet an early post war Nash of some sort?

    I don't see a rear "suicide door".
I think it is the same as the whitish car, 2 cars away, a 1948 Oldsmobile 76.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,513
Yep, the exotic next to the shoebox Ford convertible is a Jaguar Mark VII.
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,234
    Hadn't thought of Olds 76

Cannot see the top of the rear tire so I would say no.
On the left a 1958 Dodge Kingsway.

I'll go with its being a '65 Buick Wildcat.

Silver blue Mustang with white convertible top.

Light blue and white 59 Edsel sedan at background right. Nice Rambler 2 door HT in front of the white Falcon.

Me too, it's too long in rear for a Riviera.

Rats! Fin took the '59 Edsel I was going to make a snarky comment about. I'll take the white '60 Olds flat top seen over the rear of the Riviera because one of my high-school chums rebuilt one in auto shop and drove it. Pretty cushy.

Not hard to figure out what that is but I was struck by the sheer size of it, even with no other
    vehicles to compare it with.

nice gen 1 Corvair coupe bottom left. And about midway up that row, a Falcon.

I am sure there is also a '60 Ford in there someplace but have not found it yet.

There is a 59 Ford and I think a 61. So the 60 is corralled.

Here's one from 1956, the year of my birth, in what was then dirty old Halifax, my home town. Courtesy Halifax Municipal archives. Should expand somewhat.

Front row facing you, 1953 Chevy.
Also in there, a '47, '48, or '49 Studebaker. Need to see the grille.
And next to the '53 Chevy, a 1953 Mercury Meteor.
  • tmarttmart Member Posts: 2,403
    49/51 Ford.

I am an AMC enthusiast, but that Rambler is a one I wasn't aware of; a station wagon with plood. You learn something new every day.

I think I see the roofline of a Morris Oxford behind the shoebox Ford coupe.
  • magnettemagnette Member Posts: 4,234
    edited October 2020
That is a Morris Oxford MO

The convertible to the right with bonnet and boot open is an Austin A40 Somerset

I assumed the grey car next to the Studebaker is a Chevrolet of some age, but it looks a bit like a Vauxhall Wyvern or Velox L series - the immediate post war range.
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,513
Yep, I don't think the car next to the Stude is American.

This is the 1949 Vauxhall Velox I had in mind - particularly the rear lights low down
  • fintailfintail Member Posts: 58,513
Rear windscreen also matches. I am pretty sure, unlike period Austins, these were not sold in the US.

I was surprised to see it too - although I appreciate Canada took more British cars then - including at least two Morris Oxfords as that was something we saw a couple of weeks back there too!

@ab348 - it makes you think this is from our Halifax in Yorkshire - we seem to have more cars there than US ones ! On the other hand it can't be Yorkshire without cobbles, flat caps and whippets in those days...

    It has AWD too!

We used to call that the ATM car.

1953 Pontiac Chieftain - is this the first Catalina model?
  • Lostwrench3Lostwrench3 Member Posts: 826
It's a 1953 Pontiac. As to the model name, I think that was a confusing year when Pontiac named it a Chieftan Catalina.
