BMW Z4 Radio/CD Issues

My 2004 BMW Z4's radio/CD will not turn on or off with the main button. Likewise the preset station buttons will not work. Face plate lists "Navigation System" which the car has but is never used. The radio is on and stations can be changed with the controls on the steering wheel, but I don't know what station I've selected. Is this an issue others have had, and can it be repaired. I know what the result will be taking it to my dealer.

Your dealer will only send it out to an audio specialist so you might as well by-pass the middle man. If you have a good independent BMW shop in your area, ask them where they send their audio repairs. The best solution for you might be to just buy and install an aftermarket unit. You might lose your steering wheel controls but you'll have a much better sounding unit for a lot less money than trying to repair a 12 year old OEM unit.
