Replaced Struts with a mobile mechanic. Don't think I trust him

So this guy of craigslist replaced my struts.

He asked for my keys and I gave them to him. Then I saw him with the hood up.

Why would he need to keep the hood up while replacing shocks and struts?

A week later my engine sounds awful and the light is on. I hope it is just spark plugs. Would he tamper with my engine to get more business? Lol it seems weird.

Yes the hood would have to be open to replace the struts.

You should get a scan to see what that light is all about.
