same boat see my past posts-- dont know where you live (i'm in MA) maybe its the gas or like others have posted you might have to wait until the 3-5k mile marks.. City driving is the worst. I doubt the dealer will have any other suggestions not posted here
  • zekeman1zekeman1 Member Posts: 422
Reading all the posts with the lousy mileage, "waiting until you get to the 3-5K+ point to get better mileage", regular vs premium gas, etc, etc, etc. I can't figure out what I'm doing wrong (?) or right, but since I've owned my 07 G35x, I've gotten consistently decent mileage...lowest was about 17 mpg and consistent 22 mpg, always using regular gas during 60/40 hiway/city driving. Am I a "spirited" driver, as scottm123 describes himself? Don't think so...but if I do need to punch it, I do. The way I look at it, I can afford a $40K car with a 300+ hp engine in the days of almost $3/gal gas (and it's going to get worse!) If I worried about the mileage all the time, I would go get a Civic Hybrid and avoid ulcers.

It's not the fact of gas being so high and not being able to afford a 40k car... It bothers me that it says 19 MPG city on the specs and when I read other drivers saying they ger 19-22 it annoys me since I'm getting a lot less... If there is something wrong with my car I would like to know about it.
  • scottm123scottm123 Member Posts: 1,501
    Okay... you have me there.
It says 19 and that's exactly what you should be seeing.

Thankfully, I don't have to endure city driving.

Although I can afford the car, my heavy foot would put me in the poor house if I was seeing 13 mpg.

Ok, alot of people are saying ut u cant afford the car dont buy it. Now i can afford it and i did. But the problem is that i get about 10-12mpg... No im not racing down the street with the car... Ive been driving slower then old ppl. I got about 850 miles on it and it only improved 2 mpg.. I just filled the tank with premium for $60, and navi is showing 207 mile till empty... I know i do 70% city but it dont mean freaking 10 mpg. The car says 17 city 23 highway, but a 7 mpg is a BIG gap. I dont even have a ac on. I love this car, but the gas is really changing my mind. Should i get it checked by dealer?? Any suggestions?? ( besides slow start and slow stop, which ive been doing with this car)
had this car for 2 weeks now, ~850 miles on it, 4 fill ups, all premium, 10mpg-12mpg city, 15ish highway, no ac.
I know its also on how u drive, I drive real fast and reckless with my old car, but I really changed my driving for this one. Anyone can suggest anything to me?
  • gooddeal2gooddeal2 Member Posts: 750
What's ur average MPH on your dashboard? It seems ur MPG is way low. However, if you only drive 3 miles but it takes you ~30 minutes to get there, that might be the problem.
  • sweendogysweendogy Member Posts: 1,310
that my problem i'm taking the train to work now not worth 30plus mins to go 4 miles when i can take the train and its the same.
  • jattboyzes2000jattboyzes2000 Member Posts: 3
i usually drive 15-20 miles in 30-40 mins. i can understand if im just standing in traffic all the time but this is more of city with lights and stop signs. mixed that with highway thats 80% traffic free at the time i'm on it.
  • gooddeal2gooddeal2 Member Posts: 750
That's a about an average driving condition. You might need to ask the dealer if they can find the problem.

I drive about 16 miles each way (about 6 miles city and 10 miles suburb) to work in about 30-40 minutes as well. I get low 18MPG w/ hard driving and a little over 19 w/ easy driving (on the right lane and leave 2 or 3 cars space in front of me so that I don't need to use break/acceleration too often).
  • gooddeal2gooddeal2 Member Posts: 750
I got about 22.7 MPG according to the computer. :shades:
  • kandbert1kandbert1 Member Posts: 9
Well with 7700 miles on the car I get between 15-16.9mpg. I recently switched to a new job that changes my driving more to the highway. The miles to empty flucutate so much. At refills I reset the trip odometer to see how many miles to tank I get. During the course of driving the trip odometer add to the miles to empty range from 280miles to 330miles. My driving is 60/40 highway to city. I love the car, but I am slighty disappointed with the mpg. Over the past 3k miles the mpg has gone gone up and down. A high being 18.9 and a low of 14.

    Here's my suggestion:

Take you car on at least a tank's worth road trip over the weekend. Get on the Interstate & open 'er up (70-80mph) the entire way. if you can, go faster. Trust me, that is exactly what is engine wants to do. It'll make it happy and run more efficiently, even while stuck in city traffic.

Be wary of the police, of course. If it isn't legal to drive as fast as I'm recommending around your parts, maybe invest in a nice, top-o'-the-line radar/LASER detector (~$300). I tend to drive rapidly (not aggressively, mind you [I HATE tail-gaters]), but I'm still able to get 19+ mpg in the city and 26-27 mpg highway miles.

I'm guessing, without doing the math, that this makes fiscal sense on its own. If you have somewhere to go that's 350-375 miles away, well then all the better.

    Hope this helps.

vonhoser i will be driving 500 plus miles over the thanksgiving holiday and we will see what the g pulls in the mpg --my V1 along for the ride..thanks for the post

with a 1,070 miles on the car, the navi is telling me 12.2 mpg. On a full premium tank I got 222 miles. Thats acutally 11 mpg with change. Even if i was doing 100% city, whould it be like this? I know nyc is very horrible in tranffic but i tend to stay away from rush hours. Anyone, any suggestions? I'm plankng to do one more fill up and see how it goes if it doesnt get better by half tank, i thinking of seeing the dealer. Is it to early? Will they chrage me even with the full bumper to bumper warenty they got???

As for driving on highway straight, i did goto a 80 mile pure highway trip, i reset the meters in the car and it told me 20 mpg on pure highway at about 70mph. This should be at 25 right??? Please any suggestions are great.
    thank you

I know at 6400 miles on my G35x, I'm getting on average 20 mpg. For longer trips like a round trip from Twin Cities, MN to Madison,WI I was able to get 25 mpg. If I use the cruise control, I can get a 5 to 10% boost to fuel efficiency. If I am gunning the engine and chasing Porsches or putting TLs in their place and such then the I can only get 18 mpg. Accelerate less and you'll be braking less and therefore you'll coast more then fuel economy will improve.
  • rmcneicermcneice Member Posts: 20
I've got a little less than 3000 miles on my 2007 G35x now. I was getting about 17mpg in the beginning, with a good mix of highway and Long Island local stop and go. The MPG went down considerably since then since I am pretty much just driving locally - about 13-15MPG on average. If I fill up and immediately go on the highway I see the computer register 20-22MPG, so mixed driving would certainly put this into the range I expected.

I also have changed my way of driving, being less aggressive than I did with my old I30. I have to say I am disappointed, expecting 17-19MPG as the marketing literature says. The local Infinity dealer service department says that it should pop up after 12,000 miles. I average about 3000-4000 miles/year, so that's 3 or more years away for me - not pretty. I sure do hope the improvement at the 3500 mile mark is true, per previous posts.

One thing I did notice, if I look at the computer generated MPG and my own gallons/miles calculation the computer is low by about .5MPG pretty consistently. I wish it were better though, since I miss driving more aggressively with a car that is surely meant to be driven that way.

    Enjoy,
    Bob

Agressive is an understatement for how I drive my G and I have NEVER been able to get it below 18.something.

I guess I'm one of the lucky ones who's average speed during the complete commute stays fairly high, with little city driving.
I knew what I was getting myself into... told myself to look elsewhere, but the test drive just had me hooked.
Luckily, it's been a bit better than expected.

I do have that magical right foot though... ;)

I have a 2007 G35 that I have about 13k miles on, I recently moved the car from STL to CA and all of a sudden my average of 21mpg for the previous 12k miles and all of a sudden i started getting only 12-13mpg.

Here is the kicker, turns out officially Infiniti is not reporting any known issues or problems with this but unofficially it turns out the dual throttle body fuel intake could be causing issues when the car is not warmed up. There is apparently maybe going to be an update to the firmware of the computer but I have no clue.

One thing I can tell you is that a 7-8mpg difference is a huge cost in one year $1400 roughly for driving 15k miles a year. Infiniti better get their crap together and fix this issue quickly or I can honestly say there won't be another (this is my second) G35 in the future.

-- Incredibly nice car but upset customer.

in a thanksgiving run from mass to boston --about 300 highway miles i got 20.5 mpgs. Not bad for me.. I could of been better but I hammer the car leaving all those toll booths to beat slower merging traffic.

I'm seeing a slight decrease in economy, with the colder weather coming in, but me and my lucky right foot are still happy.
Even under the harshest of driving, I've never been able to get under 17.9.
27.7 is my highest yet, being all highway with the ICC set to 75.

Here's my drive to work the other day.
    50/50 Backroad/Highway... I'm happy.

I am thinking of buying this car but have been concerned over the mileage issue. Some of you are geting 12-13/gal?? That is terrible. How can they show the 17-26 range and then perform that badly. I am also considering the Lexus IS250 (better mileage) and the Lexus ES.
  • hkyhky Member Posts: 71
I am considering the G too.

The new EPA is getting closer but city driving will always be descrepency because they are not real world test (they use math to estimates it). Last night I went to test out the G, the computer registered 11.6, this is probably the extreme case since the test car always run around the blocks of 3 miles with stop and go traffic, hardly long enough to go above 50 without running a lights or hit something.

So, the shorter the trips and the more traffic you run into, the bigger the difference will be with the EPA. Of course I found the gas pedal quite sensitive, this together with a powerful engine surely use more gas.

IS and ES are different driving experiences with the G though.
  • scottm123scottm123 Member Posts: 1,501
My test drive car also showed approx 12 mpg.
I was more than a little worried, but for whatever reason, the G impressed me from the beginning an I took the chance.
I actually expected worse than what I'm getting now so I'm not upset.

I will say though, over the past 1.5 weeks, my MPG has dropped.
Winter fuel blends and the colder climate are the culprits.

Can't wait till summer is back! ;)

    Hi:
I am considering either a 2008 BMW 328xi or a 2008 G35x. I don't like the fact the BMWs come with RFT. I like the G35x but am concerned regarding the MPG.
Can you let me know what you are averaging in city driving with the G35x.
  • sweendogysweendogy Member Posts: 1,310
Read the post homie-and what the Heck is RFT?
  • sweendogysweendogy Member Posts: 1,310
u bast-rd--- nice work on that--9k miles and good mpgs-- your magic right foot is something else--some honda civics cant get those returns.. scott which car did you get again--if its the sport does it have the 6speed/?
  • lfx28lfx28 Member Posts: 3
    RFTs are run flat tires.
  • sweendogysweendogy Member Posts: 1,310
filled up this morning after getting frisky last night-- car really loves to pull from 60 and finally figured out the transmission after 4k miles
  • scottm123scottm123 Member Posts: 1,501
Fully loaded G35x... Blue Slate on Graphite with Rosewood trim
Couldn't do the S model... my commute through unplowed NE roads wouldn't allow for it.

The X is still a blast to drive though!
  • g35floodedg35flooded Member Posts: 44
I finally took my 07 G35X and a long distance drive which was about 200 miles each way and I got about 22 miles per gallon. Granted it's still lower than advertised but it's better then the 13.4 miles I was getting in city driving (nyc).

Right now I'm at 17 MPG since the highway drive so lets see how long this lasts. Im also am going by the MPG that the display is telling me, i haven't really paid close attention to my gas MPG.. Not sure if the car's MPG count is off or not?
  • scottm123scottm123 Member Posts: 1,501
    It's close enough
You can safely go by that

With winter fuel blends and colder weather... prepare for a slight drop
  • adamr001adamr001 Member Posts: 95
Okay, a Monday -> Friday commuting MPG test.

Filled up Monday ~7AM, checked the milage averages Friday, ~9PM.

    MPG 19.9
    AVGSpd: 22.6 mph

Mine's a 2007 Sport 6MT with pretty much everything and 1800 miles on the odo.
  • sweendogysweendogy Member Posts: 1,310
Same color -- but without the wood.. wish i would of gotten the wood thats prob why i'm topping out at 20 mpgs and your at 28 :D -- are people driving with the slip control (stability control) button on or off. i work with a guy who has a 2005..he told me that you save on brake wear if you leave it off.. and i also love throwing the car hard into the turns and having the rear get a little lose..
  • sweendogysweendogy Member Posts: 1,310
2 fillups during the holiday season (600 plus driving) as i traveled down to nyc/nj area -- here are the stats 20.4 and 22.1 mostly highway.. car is fantastic on the highway -- i love coming out of a toll both via e-z pass and going zero to 80 at around 8 seconds.. anyway car now has 5000 miles on it and i have to say besides the fact that its an auto and the low mpgs this is one fantastic car-(if i could get 25mpgs there would be no problem) - sport and lux it has both and does both really well. If you looking for a car to drive 10 miles a day this is not the car- it wants to go and go fast..
  • golfnut802golfnut802 Member Posts: 10
I see a lot of posts regarding MPG when you first get the car, and how it is supposed to increase after the "break-in" period (which I always question).

How about someone who is had the car past the "break-in" period letting us know what type of mileage they are getting. Has is really improved???

So far, the MPG is te only thing scaring me away from the car.

    Thanks
  • adamr001adamr001 Member Posts: 95
I'm at the first service internval (3750 miles) and I bet if I go out and take a pic of my mpg, it's > 20mpg. That includes commuting and weekend / travel. Best mpg I've seen was 26.7 round trip (Austin Houston) over Christmas where I kept it between 65-75 due to the excessive number of state troopers on the road. Last trip (New Years) I averaged 24.x (I forget the change) (Austin Dallas) and was routinely faster because I had a good rabbit to follow.

My first tank of gas (commuting only) after the TSB for the Intelligent Cruise Control (which gives you an ECU reflash) was just shy of 20mpg for a full week's worth of commuting (see previous page).

I have a 6mt though, so especially compared to the 5at YMMV.
  • jebelljebell Member Posts: 54
So the gas mileage sucks....driving this car is worth it. It is a choice you have to make. This awesome car with lousy mileage or an ok car with good gas mileage.
BTW, a set of clubs fit nicely in the trunk.
  • eel2eel2 Member Posts: 4
I just bought a 2008 G35 Sedan, automatic last week. I have been doing city and highway mix and I am averaging 19.5 MPG and haven't gotten through a full tank yet. This includes "test-drive" mileage before I got it so I started at 11 MPG when I took possession and now it's up to 19.5. While I'm driving, on the highway, it is always over 20MPG. It's about what I expected. It's not going to be a hybrid.
  • almattialmatti Member Posts: 164
I can report some of my experiences with MPG on my 2007 G35X. I do notice a drop in MPG with the "winter Premiums blends". Getting around 12 mpg in strict local City driving with a cols engine [a cold engine Drinks gasoline]. Unfortunately, my new job only allows me to drive to local train station, 3-4 miles each way. Like someone else mentioned on this Post, This car is meant to be driven..... it wants to GO. I don't think it was created for Commuting. Also, the amount of Ethanol in the gas (NY area it is reported at the pumps at 10%, mechanics have told me it is higher @ 15%.). Ethanol will lower the MPGs 10-20%. It will also help to bring about the dreaded Check Engine light as it affects the Oxygen Sensors. Not long ago, NJ didn't add ethanol to the gas, and many people in all sorts of cars, would say they had better MPGs. During the summer on a couple of long trips in hilly terrain, Intertstates @75-80 MPH, I was getting 23-24 MPG. That was pretty good for a performance car. I do notice no with the severe cold weather, abrupt shifting in regular Auto modes, into 3rd gear mostly. After it warms up, the shifting smooths out. I guess this issue is for another Post... I have a Black Beauty with grey leather interior. There are a few shortcomings that i noticed after driving for 8 months and putting nearly 8K on the odometer, But Overall, The Car is Awesome.

I have an '07 G35 6MT with about 5800 miles on it. Living near Chicago, my daily commute is 28 miles of highway (1 mile of surface roads to get to and from the highway each way), sometimes with traffic jams. In addition to that, I drive a further 5-10 miles surface roads with lots of lights in the evening most days.

I got the car in the middle of September. My 1st tank was 22.5 MPG running the A/C, the 2nd tank up to about 3500 miles were all similar between 23.2 and 23.7 MPG, also running the A/C. After 3500 miles (from mid November onwards) and no A/C my mileage is generally 24.2 - 24.6 from fill up to fill up (usually with between 17 and 18.5 gallons pumped). With my usual driving habits, my highest MPG has been 25.6, although I was only able to keep this up for about half the tank.

On the highway, I tend to drive mostly 70 MPH + or - 5 MPH depending on traffic.

My G35X (AWD) is at 6000 miles. I put in Speedway Premium gas. I am getting about 16-17 MPG. My drive is mainly suburban (Chicago area). Not highway, but not totally city. I don't race it. Pretty much just drive it. Wish I was getting at least the minimum MPG that Infiniti states. Odd thing is that it seems the MPG actually got worse in winter than it was in summer with the A/C on.
  • adamr001adamr001 Member Posts: 95
That's not really odd at all. Winter fuel mix notorously reduces fuel efficiency. 17mpg is stated city milage, btw.
  • ruffie47ruffie47 Member Posts: 1
I just recently purchased a 2004 G35x with 40k miles. I have noticed I am getting terrible MPG. I just filled up 2 days ago, have put 40 miles on my car and the fuel gauge is already below the 3/4 tank line. With a 20 gallon tank, I'm showing I'm getting roughly 8 MPG. I'm not driving the car hard at all. It has been bitterly cold outside, so that may have something to do with it, but still, this is ridiculous. Any thoughts?
  • scottm123scottm123 Member Posts: 1,501
    That's bad.
I'd consider asking the dealer where you purchased the car from.

Winter blends and cold weather do contribute to lower MPG, but 8?... that's just silly.
  • jebelljebell Member Posts: 54
Some states switch to 85 fuel (15% ethanoll) in the winter months which lowers gas milage. That may contribute to your lousy milage but I agree with scottm123.
  • g35floodedg35flooded Member Posts: 44
Do you guys use premium only? I noticed it advises you to use prem. only inside the tank. I have only used regular so far since gas isup to 3.45 a gallon where I'm at right now
  • kb124kb124 Member Posts: 60
I have only put Premium in since purchasing last June. If anybody has good success stories to report using Regular, I am also interested.
  • sweendogysweendogy Member Posts: 1,310
in a cold mass winter and over the past 2 weeks 150plus miles 70% city i averaged 15mpg in my last fill up-- if you don't know my story i drive 5 miles into downtown boston 3-4 times a week..with the rare highway trip on the weekend.. over longer distances down to nyc and nj i have seen the car get 23mpg's on extended highway driving. Like most I have had my best luck on the highway with the cruise engaged i also drive without the esc or the dsc button in the off position (because someone with an 05 g35x told me it helps out on break wear).
