Does the MDX qualify for rule 179?
  • robsorobso Member Posts: 6
We just leased our Tech + Ent over the weekend. Open Road Acura offered us the car at invoice. Here are the details:

    3 years at 15000 miles/year
Zero down, only inception fees at signing
    $685/mo including NJ sales tax.

I believe they have one left in stock. Black/ gray interior if anyone is interested.
  • jaserjaser Member Posts: 5
what was the actual purchase price? What money factor and residual did they use?
  • robsorobso Member Posts: 6
Since my wife has the paperwork I have to go by memory. The purchase price was dealer invoice, $42398. The money factor was .00214 and the residual was 53%.

Anyone know what promotions/etc Acura is planning for MDX starting in a few days?

Do they usually run promotions for 30 days or for longer than that?

I'm still trying to get current info on what money factor and residual are for a 3 year 36K lease on a base MDX.
  • jmpage2jmpage2 Member Posts: 268
Can anyone share money factor and residual for MDX models that go into effect March 4th?

Specifically looking for 3 year 36K lease numbers from Honda Financing for base MDX and MDX Tech.

    Thanks!

    ;)

Hello, Carman (again). Please provide the 24 and 36 month MF and Residuals for the Acura MDX, 15k miles per year. As always, appreciate your assistance.
  • bbirdwell38bbirdwell38 Member Posts: 4
I was in the Acura dealership in Atlanta this evening. Looks like the MF for a MDX with Tech package is .00197. The quoted residual was 54%.
  • jmpage2jmpage2 Member Posts: 268
Looks like a very slight drop in MF and residuals the same. I believe residual on the MDX base is 56% or that's where it had been.

Acura is still advertising the $499 lease payment on base MDX with $3000 and no security deposit. Not sure what other fees are in there, but when I run the numbers for a $3,000 down payment and .00197 MF I get a lower payment than $499 a month on a base MDX with the $1800 cap cost reduction that is supposed to be part of the program. I get a payment of more like $450.

Would be nice to get the skinny on the breakdown of the current lease program including all numbers.

I am thankful for all of the information provided on this forum. I am in the market for MDX with Tech package. I am located in Atlanta, GA and I have negotiated with 4 local dealerships, plus the one in Athens. Here is the best deal I have been able to come up with at this time:

    MSRP - $44,410
    Sales Price - $40,400
Other Fees - $715 (Honda Assignment fee, TTL, etc...)
    Total Cap Cost - $41,115
    MF - 0.00197
    Residual - 54%

Only first month's payment due at signing. Total payment is $603 plus state tax.

    Thoughts?
  • jmpage2jmpage2 Member Posts: 268
That looks like a good deal. Sale price if it includes destination is right at Invoice which is not shabby at all.

I am truly envious of you guys in milder climates who have dealers wanting to haggle on the MDX. Locally in my area the deals are not so good as the vehicle is still selling well in the current economy.

Just received a lease quote for an MDX w/ Tech:
    - The lease is for 36mths and 12k miles per yr
    - Payment is $555/mth with $3,589 up front
    - Up front payment of $3,589 is made up of 1st mthly pmt ($555), bank fee ($595), DMV fees ($191), taxes ($1,814), Cap cost reduction ($433).
    - The selling price was $40,703 (incl destination)
    - Residual was 56%
    - Money factor was 0.00197

Your opinions/comments would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Actually if you use the lease payment calculator on Acura's site right now it appears that the money factor is lower than indicated in your post.

That info looks like it might be a bit out of date.

What are the March 24 and 36 month residuals and money factors for an MDX/Tech?

    For reference from Texas:

Invoice on 08 MDX with Tech and Rear Entertainment quoted this month at:
    41,682 invoice
    715 Destination
    300 ADAG
    Total = 42,667

Money factor on a lease with lower rates thx to uncle sam (most likely Chase bank) is .00185 4.44%
    39 months

Still getting killed on adding dealer options before closing in Dallas area.

Hi maries15. The dealer invoice price for a base 2008 Acura MDX is $37,229. Your MDX's selling price of $36,785 is more than $400 below invoice, which is an excellent deal. The problem is that when I calculate a lease payment on this truck using the prices that you mentioned in your post, I come up with a zero down, pre-tax monthly payment of around $488. Obviously sales tax will add some to this, but not a whole $60 per month. I wonder why? Even so, this truck's monthly payment is not bad, it's just not what it should be given the low selling price that you mentioned.

Hi caseydog1. A four year lease of an MDX really doesn't make much sense right now because Acura's special lease program on it is only available for a maximum of 36 months. If you lease for longer than that, you will have to pay a higher interest rate.

Hi s4lvr1. The money factor that you were told by that dealer is way off. Honda Finance's current buy rate lease money factor for the 2008 Acura MDX is .00197 for consumers who qualify for Honda Finance's "Super Preferred" credit tier and pay a security deposit at lease signing.

Hi intermd. You never mentioned the selling price or MSRP of the MDX that you are interested in leasing. These are important numbers for you as a consumer to know for two reasons. First, the selling prices of leased vehicles can be negotiated, just as if you were paying cash for them. Without knowing what this vehicle's selling price is in relation to its MSRP you don't know how much of a discount you are getting on it. The second reason is that one needs the selling price and MSRP, including the destination charge, of a vehicle to calculate its lease payment. If I was in the market for an Acura MDX right now, I personally would shoot for a selling price of $500 over dealer invoice, which is $40,903 for an '08 MDX with just Tech and $42,898 for an '08 MDX with Tech and Entertainment.

Hi noviceleaser. Don't worry about the accident that your MDX was in. It sounds like you had it repaired properly. I highly doubt that Honda Finance will try to hit you up with any excess wear and tear charges as a result of it. In fact, this is one of the best things about leasing. Most vehicles that have been in an accident have at least a little diminished value that would cause you to take a hit when you eventually wanted to sell, but as a lessee you can just walk away from your truck at lease-end and force Honda Finance to eat any diminished value.

Hi proshopper. the dealer invoice price for a base 2008 Acura MDX is currently $37,229. The selling price that you were quoted, $37,995, is $766 over invoice. That isn't bad. Given the fact that the market for new vehicles is sooooo bad in Florida right now, I personally would not be surprised if you were able to shave another couple hundred dollars off of your truck's selling price, but again this is a decent deal. You may want to stop by the "Acura MDX Prices Paid and Buying Experience" discussion to see how much other community members have paid for similar trucks lately.

When you arrive at a selling price that you are comfortable with, make sure that the dealer that you are working with calculates your monthly payment using Honda Finance's buy rate lease money factor of .00197 (for consumers who qualify for its top credit tier and pay a security deposit at lease signing).

Hello jaser. You never mentioned how long you want to lease your MDX for or what mileage allowance you need, so for now I will assume that you are interested in a 36 month lease with 15,000 miles per year. Let me know if you want something different. Honda Finance's March buy rate lease money factor and residual value for a 36 month lease of a 2008 Acura MDX Sport with the Tech and Entertainment packages and 15,000 miles per year are .00197 and 50%, respectively.

Hey jmpage2. Here's the info that you're looking for. Honda Finance's current buy rate lease money factor and residual value for a 36 month lease of a base 2008 Acura MDX with 12,000 miles per year are .00197 and 58%, respectively for consumers who qualify for its "Super Preferred" credit tier and pay a security deposit at lease signing. Hi bbirdwell38. The money factor and residual value that you were quoted look great. they are right in line with Honda Finance's current lease program for the MDX. The selling price that you were quoted looks great, too. It is right around dealer invoice. If you like the truck, I personally don't see any reason not to pull the trigger on this deal.

    Hi All,

Just got a lease quote from Stevens Creek Acura, CA.
    Vehicle Price: $46,610.00
    Preferred Customer Discount: -$4,863.00
    Selling Price: $41,747.00
    Sales Tax (estimate): + $3,448.67
    Tag/Registration Fees (estimate): + $313.00
    Tire/Battery/MVWEA: + $8.75
    Other: + $28.00
    Documentation Fee: + $55.00
    Flat Add/County Fee: + $22.00
    Balance Due (estimate): $45,622.42

They have given me 3 lease options at 36 months and 10K miles:

    Out of pocket
    $3,000 $589
    $4,000 $558
    $5,000 $528

    Are these numbers OK?
  • jmpage2jmpage2 Member Posts: 268
It would only be to your advantage to buy out and terminate your lease if you could get a better interest rate on conventional financing than your lease money factor.

This is almost never the case, especially as it would be a used car loan which would probably be at a higher interest rate than new car financing would run.
  • topgun7topgun7 Member Posts: 412
    "Balance Due (estimate): $45,622.42"

they are mixing and matching the quote for you.. In California, tax for lease is pay on a monthly basis and based on the lease payment and not the sales price. And they didn't quote you the acquistion/disposition fee of somewhere between 500 to 700 dollars for lease. So the quote you have is good for buying but not leasing. You should be able to figure out the lease payment based on Car_man number for residual and money factor using this lease calculater. And make sure you add the acquisition cost + all the fee if you are not paying them separately upfront...

Anyone have any advice for negotiating MDX prices for the Rocky Mountain area dealers?

The best offer I've gotten so far for a base model MDX is $500 over invoice but the dealer wants another $399 documentation fee (added dealer profit) so the actual deal would be $900 over invoice, which at over 2% over doesn't seem like such a good deal.

I've shopped all Denver area dealers and haven't had much success, and am trying to avoid going further away but am willing to travel a bit further if needed to get the car for less.

    Thanks.

Car_man, Thanks for sharing all of your knowledge on leasing. I have questions pertaining to other fees -- documentation, acquisition and registration. Are these negotiable and should they be wrapped in the lease calculation? Any other fees to expect? I am wondering if I am "done" negotiating if I get the purchase price, money factor and the correct residual for the car that I want (2008 base MDX, 36mo / 35K). Thanks!

I have a 2005 mdx lease expiring and have received a quote to lease a new 2008 MDX base model at $499 per month for 36 months with up front payment of $2700 which includes the first month lease payment. The mileage allowance is 10,000 miles per year. How do I determine if this is a reasoanable quote>?

I'm trying to determine if I'm getting a good deal on an '08 MDX (base with technology package) lease from my local Acura dealer in West Michigan before making a decision... Here it is - MSRP: $44,410, Sale Price: $41,990, Term: 36 months, Miles/year: 17K, Monthly Payment: $703.19, Amount Due at Signing: $916, Cap Cost: $42, 585.

I drive an '05 MDX and likely will stay with an MDX if I can get a decent deal. Current lease on the "05 is $610/month for 3 years/17K miles...

    Any help would be appreciated,,,

Hi, I live in Northern VA area and I have received the following proposal from Radley Acura Dealer in Falls Church, for an MDX 2008, Technology model.

    12000 miles per year
    $550.00 per month
    $3500 down.

Please let me know if this is a good deal, or should I drive a harder bargain?

I'm in the final phase of lease negotiations on a new MDX base model and am wondering if anyone has the new lease rates for April.

    Thanks

    Hi VBC,

Thank you for the helpful info.

My wife and I have/lease an '05 MDX Touring with NAVI and are looking to get back into the 2008 MDX w/Tech. I have done a lot of research and am trying to get back to $525/mo. I want to lease for 36 months and want 10,000 miles per year. We are returning the '05 with approx 19,000 (26,000) miles less than what we were supposed to have (45,000). So there is an advantage there for the dealer for sure.. not to mention the vehicle is in great shape.

You say that you got $499 / Month with NJ sales tax you should be paying approx $534. If so could you tell me the dealer ship in NJ? I'm currently working with Bridgewater, Ocean, East Brunswick, Springfield and Princeton.

    Thanks again,
    jgacura

The message you responded to was from four months ago, and the buying situation has certainly changed since then... residual has gone down, but money factor has gone down too.

Residual will probably drop another 1% across the board on the MDX for April but hopefully there will be a corresponding drop in the finance cost. I know that when comparing March to February the price on the lease actually went down by about $10 per month on the same lease I was looking at just because of the reduction in money factor.

As far as getting extra value on the turn in of your '05 MDX.... good luck with that. Dealers typically won't give you a penny over residual and you are often lucky to get that. If you feel the car is worth more than the residual then consider buying it out at the end of the lease and selling it to a 3rd party for higher than the residual value. That's often the only way to come out ahead if you have a cherry car at the end of a lease.

The only way you will get $500/month on an MDX Tech is to pay the lease down. Even at invoice price on a 10K per mile lease the payment will be over $500 per month before sales tax.

I just leased a 2008 MDX with everything but roof rack and tow kit. It also included the pro-package and the back up sensors. It had just arrived at the dealer and has the tech and entertainment package. I paid one month down, $769, that was it. My lease is for three years with 15,000 per year, and includes tax. How did I do? (Vehicle was brand new still in cellophane wrapping).
