My car was working great until It needed head gaskets. I go that repaired and now my car won't kick down after the third shift. It also reached 3rpm at 55-60mph. Can someone help with this situation. I will take it back to the mechanic, but i want to understand more about it so I won't be blindsided.

Sounds like you've lost the overdrive gear---might be as simple as a fuse or loose wire, especially since you've just had so much work done.

Pardon me for asking, but are you sure you didn't accidentally hit the "O/D" off button? If you did, you should see an icon on the dash indicating that.
