Thanks for the info. I talked to a friend and he said the same thing. He leases a Altima with zero down every three years and does virtually no repairs. The dealer adds make leasing seem so simple so I guess I will have to do a little more homework before I visit a dealer.

I recently leased a 2012 Hyundai Sonata GLS, and I think I got a good deal.

Terms of lease: 36 months, 15000 miles per year, 199/mo

Down payment plus TTL was roughly over $4120, but I traded in my 2002 VW Passat (damage to the front, 119k miles, typical wear all over) for $2500 and used the $1500 rebate towards the $4120, and ended up putting absolutely nothing down. The only money due at signing was $199 for the first month's payment.

MSRP was around $19700 and residual value was around $12500

    Was this a good deal?

Greetings mrbizness1. Since you are new to leasing, you definitely should check out the following informative articles on the subject that are available here at Edmunds.com: 10 Steps to Leasing a New Car and Calculate Your Own Lease Payment.

Leasing really isn't that difficult if you break it down into a few simple steps. In short, the easiest way to get a good deal on a leased vehicle is to shop around for the lowest possible selling price and then have the dealer that you decide to go with calculate your vehicle's monthly payment using its buy rate lease money factor.

    Hi Car_man,

When you see the numbers, would you please be able to post the February money factor and residual value for an 2012 Sonata SE Turbo with Navi for 36 Months and 15,000 miles per year?

    Thanks!

    2012 Sonata Limited

    36 months/12k per year

    $319 + 1499 due at signing = $350 per month

Sticker: 28900 ish (this dealer adds some bs convenience package to all cars for 1500 -- door trims, pinstripes, etc)
    Residual Value: 14847
    Money Factor: .00190

This was a dealer's first offer. I did not push hard yet as I'm not ready to make a deal and am leaning towards a different car. Just wanted to post up here to benefit others. I have a feeling, since the 'boss' was circling the desk at which I was sitting with the salesman that they were ready to drop the price if I pushed.

Carman - what is the true residual and money factor on this vehicle? And are there any incentives out?

    Thanks!
  • maxlevmaxlev Member Posts: 86
On the above --- capitalized cost was: 23798 so the residual comes out to .6238

Dont give up! I leased my first car, after buying 2-3 over the last 10 years or so. It is not that difficult, if you like to negotiate. I dont know if I got the bests deal in the history of leases but I think it was fair to good.
2012 Hyundai Sonata residual was 11,455, purchase price around 22,400 or so. Money factor was .00159. Take money factor mutliply it times 2,400 and u can your rate over the lease period. I got a rebate of 1500 as well. Payment of $158 a month over 4 years.
  • crankeeecrankeee Member Posts: 298
$258 a month? Best deal out there was $199 with $2500 down that equals ~$268 month w/o the down payment & that was for a manual trans.. If you got $158 you need to watch out for the recovery police. HA!

    Hi Car Man:
Do you know the money factor and residual value for a 2012 Sonata Limited?
  • rscogsrscogs Member Posts: 4
Id like some info on the 12 SE Turbo. What is a good deal? I'm in no rush and I do not plan on buying the car after the lease. The first offer I got was 339 per month with nothing down. Taxes included in the payment. I would have to pay 400 ( 1st month and DMV ). This is the basic SE. No Nav/Back up cam and no sunroof. Can I get one with nav for this price? or can I get them lower on this car? Thanks
  • CarMan@EdmundsCarMan@Edmunds Member Posts: 38,514
Yes I do pontiacrick. Hyundai Finance's current buy rate lease money factor and residual value for a 36-month lease of a 2012 Sonata Limited with 12,000 miles per year are .00190 and 55%, respectively for consumers who qualify for its top credit tier.

When negotiating your deal on this car, make sure to take the $1,500 cash incentive that Hyundai is currently providing on it into account.

Hi rscogs. If you provide me with the MSRP and dealer invoice price of the exact car that you are interested in I would be happy to use Hyundai's actual lease program to work up a payment on it for you. You can find this data over in the New Vehicle Pricing section of this site.

Let me know and I'll crunch some numbers for you.

    Hi Carman!

What is the buy rate lease money factor for a Hyundai Sonata SE, 12k/year, 36 month? I don't need the navi, so just the info on the basic SE model! Thanks so much!!!
  • CarMan@EdmundsCarMan@Edmunds Member Posts: 38,514
Hi sleepysoo. Excellent choice of vehicles. One of my neighbors just got a new Sonata and everyone on the block loves it. The Korean manufacturers have come a long way. One could argue that many of their offerings are as good as the Japanese manufacturers now.

Hyundai Finance's March buy rate lease money factor and residual value for a 36-month lease of a 2012 Sonata SE with 12,000 miles per year are .00140 and 56%, respectively for consumers who qualify for its top credit tier.

    Hi Car Man!

    Thanks for the response!

This may be a dumb question, but for the $1500 cash incentive, can I use this to negotiate under the invoice price? So...is it even possible and worth my time to try to get them to invoice and then subtract $1500 from it? or split it down the middle? What is the $1500 cash incentive usually used for?

    Thanks!

    Car_man,

What are the numbers for leasing GLS manual, 18k miles a year for 36 months?

    Thanks!
  • landofandlandofand Member Posts: 19
where can i find out information about the 1500 lease bonus. there is nothing online about it. also, can i still use the owner loyalty on top of the lease bonus?
and just like mentioned before, can i negotiate lower value, near invoice and then top that off with the lease bonus and owner loyalty?

    i'm thinking about a 36mo 15k/mi/yr lease. what should i be expecting?

Hi Car_Man, you are an amazing trove of knowledge.

I'm interested in leasing a 2012 Sonata Limited.

Would you happen to know the MF and RV for 36 & 48 months for 12,000 miles?

Also, does Hyundai still offer the $1,500 incentive and what do I have to do in order to get it?

    Thank you so much!

Just to b clear, I'm interested in the APRIL MF,RV & incentives. I don't know if they are out yet.

Looking at SE 2.0 with navigation, lease for 36 months no money down. Was quoted 375 a month buy out would be 16,600. ( buy out is the same without the navigation) Does this sound decent or am I paying to much within the lease for the nav package? I should mention quote was 325 a month without nav.
Thanks for your advice, I am in Bloomington MN, close to mpls.

    Hi Car_Man,

Just finishing up my 2009 Accord lease this month.

I am looking to lease either a 2012 or 2013 Sonata GLS A/T. With the current promotion, what kind of monthly payment should I shoot for if I want to put $0 down? I would qualify in the top tier credit category.

I'd like to be somewhere around $250/month. Do you think that's possible?

    Thanks in advance!

Hi, all. Last yr i signed a lease agreement on a 2011 GLS auto with 0 down, paying ~250/mo including all fees. My buyout price is $12,000 in march 2014. The car's been fine but I was just wondering - would the hyundai dealer consider an early return if i buy one of their cars? I'm thinking a used or new genesis... How does something like this usually work? My guess based on the price of 2009 sonatas now is that this car in 2014 can have a resale value of 12,000 - 14,000 given that the current generation sonata is so much more popular.

Just finalized a new lease for a 2012 A/T GLS Sonata with the popular package.

    36 month lease
    12k miles/year

MSRP on the car is $22,775.

$0 due at signing and $235/month after that. I felt like I got an awesome deal. Anyone else have any insight?

Btw... I used Carwoo.com. Pretty sweet!

Car Man please tell what the numbers are for April...
For consumers who qualify for its top credit tier 36-month lease of a 2012 Sonata SE with 12,000 miles per year

    Thanks!
  • CarMan@EdmundsCarMan@Edmunds Member Posts: 38,514
You're welcome sleepysoo. Yes, the cash incentive would enable you to negotiate a selling price that's below dealer invoice. If I was in the market for a Sonata right now, I personally would shoot for a selling price of around $500 over invoice and then have the dealer subtract the incentive.

Hi zheka. Hyundai Finance's April buy rate lease money factor and residual value for a 36-month lease of a 2012 Sonata GLS with a manual transmission and 15,000 miles per year are .00109 and 56%, respectively for consumers who qualify for its top credit tier.

I believe that 15,000 miles per year is the highest mileage allowance that Hyundai Finance publishes residual values for. If you need to drive more than that, you will have to purchase additional miles on a per-mile basis. It is less expensive to do so at lease signing than it is to wait until lease-end and have to pay an excess mileage penalty.

Thanks buggyrider. Hyundai Finance's current buy rate lease money factor and residual value for a 36-month lease of a 2012 Sonata Limited with 12,000 miles per year are .00166 and 55%, respectively for consumers who qualify for its top credit tier.

The numbers for an otherwise identical 48-month lease are .00164 and 49%.

Yes, there is a $1,500 cash incentive on leases of this car right now. Make sure to take it into account when negotiating your deal. With it, you should be able to negotiate a capitalized cost of under invoice.

I am trying to negotiate a deal on 2012 Sonata 2.0 T Limited with Nav in White with black interior( i know its about 200 USD higher than any other exterior color) - its a car that's extremely hard to find...and the dealer has come up with this

$ 2000 down (including first payment etc) for $347 a month including PA taxes. for 15000 miles and 36 months.

Do you think its a good deal?

I must add the MF was 0.00186 and residual is 54%. the deal includes a 1500 USD rebate

    thanks a ton

Need MSRP and sales price to calculate deal goodness
Also, why is the money factor higher than carman's data (.00164)
PA sales tax rate = xx%
    acq fee = 595?
Remember monday is the last day of the month. No need to jump the gun!
FWIW, never ever put down more than 500 out-the-door money on a lease.
  • drjashandrjashan Member Posts: 9
thanks a ton for the reply.
MSRP is quoted at 31905 ( this includes some extras on the car)
    Sales price is 26072
MF is 0.00186.I checked the 2.0 T Limited has this MF for some reason.I do have excellent credit.do you think i can negotiate further for o.oo164?
PA tax is around 6+3 ( 9) percent
Acq fee quoted at 703 and I was also told there is tax amount due for approx 1100 USD. I was told we are taxed twice on leases in PA.( i did not know that- I would like a comment on that please)- both these payments are taken care of by the 2000.
Residual is 54%( terrible but I knew this before hand that 2.0T LTD have bad residuals)
This vehicle is being brought from another dealership since no one had this exact one close to me.

    Please advise
  • drjashandrjashan Member Posts: 9
May I add that with no money out of pocket,no dealer so far came close to even 423 bucks including tax on this car.

So it's the end of the month and I got my girlfriend, what I think is a good deal on a brand new Sonata. Can anyone tell me how good or bad the deal really is? I assume this made the dealers quota or else he wouldn't have spent 4-5 hours trying to locate the exact trim and color combination we were looking for.

2013 Sonata Limited 2.4L with Premium Package (Panoramic sunroof and Navigation)

MSRP: $29,500 plus factory options (Don't remember the exact amount)
    Cap cost: $28,755
    Cap Reductions: $5498.67
Net cap cost (including fees): $23276.33
    Residual value: $16,251.30

    OTD cost: $6,400 paid as
    Rebates: $2,400
    Down payment: $4,000

    Monthly Payment (including taxes): $279.02

    Any thoughts?
  • pegasus17pegasus17 Member Posts: 536
    REF: 1068
I hope you didn't put $4000 down on a lease - that is a horrible mistake (IMO)
BTW, how did you get 2400 in rebates on the 2013 model?
  • ablawandeablawande Member Posts: 3
Well, she had a decent credit score, but very minimal credit history. The only way they were giving her a good interest rate was if the down payment was higher. Plus, IMO if you can afford to pay a higher down payment, it just saves you that much in interest paid and helps lower payments too (a big point for her). As for the rebates, it's off the hyundai website now (new month) but I know they had $1500 in rebates until yesterday on the 2012 sonata atleast. Don't remember if it was the case with the 2013s or not. That plus $500 valued owner (me) plus $400 college grad comes to $2400.
