The Volt!

Hello all, I want to buy a Volt. I'm still having mixed feelings on giving up my truck. It's a tough decision for me. I was originally looking at a Premier, the payment will top out my budget even after a trade in and taking out a small down payment loan from my 401k that I was going to pay back with the tax credit. On the other hand I could get a LT with the comfort package not have to get a loan and pocket the tax credit next year. The payment come out to be near the same. I would like to know if anyone who got the LT regret not having extras including the safety options you would of had with the Premier. Also would like to hear from those who got the Premier later regret not saving money and getting a LT. Are the extras worth it in your opinion? This would be my first new car purchase in 20+ years. Arm me with your knowledge! I'm not a fan of going into dealership lol. Thanks!

  • I can't add much from an owner's perspective as I don't own one but there are a lot of factors you have to consider.

I'm not a financial advisor but taking out a loan/money from your 401K doesn't seem like a good idea. I would probably stay clear of that option.

All the new safety technology is great but is it necessary? I'm guessing you have survived pretty well without those features on your truck.

Technically, the only things that you can get that are different are:

Different 17-inch wheels, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, heated rear outboard seats, a wireless charging pad for cellphones and other equipment, a navigation system and an automated parking system (parallel and perpendicular).

The Driver Confidence package available for the Premier trim includes blind-spot monitoring, lane departure warning and rear cross-traffic alert. The Driver Confidence 2 package (requires basic Driver Confidence package) adds forward collision warning with automatic low-speed emergency braking, lane departure intervention and adaptive headlights. If you get the Driver Confidence 2 package, you can also spring for adaptive cruise control, which is bundled with an upgraded automatic emergency braking system.

Giving up the truck for a Volt is a hard question that I think only you can answer. Trucks provide a lot of utility and are the complete opposite of a Volt.

I would ask you, what is your main reason for getting a Volt?
