2005 Sienna Navigation DVD Won't Stay in Drive

My Sienna navigation system began acting up, giving me a message that it couldn't read the disk. it was an intermittent error and I ignored it at first. After it increased in frequency, I ejected the disk to see if it needed to be cleaned. This was after 12 years of use and it had never been removed.

The disk seemed fine, but now I can't get it back into the navigation dvd slot. Our Sienna has the system where the navigation DVD is behind the LCD screen on the dashboard. Press the open button and the display slides out of the way and the music CD drive is on the top and the Navigation DVD drive is right below it.

When trying to insert the disk, resistance if immediate and no amount of reasonable effort will cause the drive to accept the disk and pull it into the unit to start reading it.

Anybody have any suggestions on how I can get the disk in? One bad side effect of not having the disk in place, is the backup camera no longer can show on the display. So I'd really like to get this working again.

Thanks!

I really can't think of anything you can do with the system in place except to reboot the DVD player by disconnecting the van's battery for a few minutes. This will require that you re-set your clock, radio pre-sets and maybe the "auto" function on your power windows.

If that doesn't help you may have to pull it (there are videos on YouTube to show you how) and then take it in for a bench test, or take advantage of the dealer's exchange program and get a re-man unit from them.
