When I saw the first picture, I had to ask myself how you captured my truck without my knowledge. Then I noticed it wasn't my neighborhood. Thanks for the pictorial overview, it was and can be fun for the future forum.

Ordered my SLT 4x2 QC 4.7 5spd LSD 3.92 235's pat blue 03/25
5spd test drove as a beaut, tight, decent throw, nice clutch - Chrysler's automatics scare the heck out of me. Dealer tells me building 5/1 (monday!!) 3wks transit
Previous vehicle 4X2 Mazda MPV - good vehicle, reliable, underpowered, I haul a 19'travel trailer. - it's winter Nov - Apr here, never owned a 4X4 in my life - lesson - drive smart, stay out of snow deeper than your hips, don't scratch the new paint booney hopping.
This forum is awesome - you guys deserve a lot of credit for keeping the discussions on track, no slagging, mostly intelligent(kidding), keep up the technical stuff - I would have never known that there is a big sticker on the rear axle with the ratio labeled on it. I read every response in the Dakota forums before I purchased, kept the dealer honest, answered a lot of my questions - mind you, the dealers responses have checked well against what I've learnt in the forum.
Now the question - any one have a source for boat racks? capacity for 125lb, 12' alum cartop.
Ozark and others I hope this helped a little..
Allen-
Bookitty- Yup, one friendly pup...too friendly.
typical Lab.
Andy- Please do! I would love to see everyone's
Dakotas, dogs, ???......
Malamutes are nice too...both Canadian type
dogs......
Big Al- The grill guard is from Manik...thanks, I
couldn't remember the name. Unsure about
the bed cover though..sorry.
4Daughters- Which one looks like your truck?
I'm still torn on color to choose.
Raptor01- Remind you of ????
Mailman- Come on up.....lots of room up here.
Snowcountry- You are correct. Southern interior
of British Columbia....you nearby??
ozark- Well, tons of Trout, good Steelhead, some
Salmon, and in 20 minutes I can be in
a boat, on a lake, with a line in the
water....not bad.
Visitors are always welcome...but it is
hot here too...July-August - 90F not
uncommon.....Semi-Arid dessert region.
Thanks again for all the input. The reason for the photo taking, is simply because I am a bit
"ANAL" (so my wife says) about anything I do.
I still can't decide...4.7 or 5.9...Patriot Blue
or Bronze or Green...etc... Photos help me with
my decision, and I hope may help other analistic
(is that a word?) people.
Love to see someone else's photos....

I was wondering what kind of reach there was to
the stick shift...can be pretty awkward to get
into 5th etc...I am no giant....5' 9", medium
frame....any comments....also, what changes to
the console are there? Cupholders still there?
Thanks!
R.
Also, (just being picky,) I noticed that my fold down center console on the front seat (obviously) is slightly mis-aligned with the center cushion it rests on when down. It folds up with no problem.
Crazycanuck: As for what truck looked like mine in your pictures. It was the Forest Green, (the clean) one. I would have chosen Bronze but the Sport did not come in that color. The white/cream lettering looks good on the green but I would not have wanted it with the florescent green lettering that some Dakotas came with.
The center console is the same and cupholders are intact. As for reach... neither my wife nor 17-year-old daughter has any troubles driving it.
It shifts very nicely ... especially if you are accustomed to FRONT-WHEEL-DRIVE standards which have all kinds of 'slop' in the shift linkage as it snakes its way up to the transaxle. The Dakota shifter goes DIRECTLY into the xmission with no 'slop'. (because there is no linkage)
The hydraulic clutch 'action' is very smooth and predictable. The 4.7L OHC engine is a good match for it.
This xmission has been in many MANY dodge trucks over the years and is proven to be a reliable, 'bullet proof' device. (As opposed to the multispeed automatic for the 4.7L which is still experiencing some 'teething pains'
because it has only been available for 2 years.)
Sounds like I will go with the manual then. Just curious, do you have the buckets or the 40-20-40
bench in yours?
Phantom whining -
I forgot that when I test drove one of the three
dakota rentals, I did experience a low groan or whine from the front of the vehicle. It sounded like a transmission whine when I was coasting downhill....it only lasted at a certain speed...
say from 70km/h to 60...unsure of cause.
It was an auto trans but can't remember if it was a 5.9 or 4.7. I think 5.9 but at least one 5.9 I drove made no such noise.
hope it helps.
