Car Buying Advice - Honda care vs Honda Vehicle Protection Plans (Platinum, Gold etc)

What is the difference between Honda Care and the extended protection plan that has 5 coverage levels?
Which one makes the most sense?

Honda Care is a pre-paid maintenance plan, while the others are extended warranties.
Paying your maintenance and repair costs out of pocket are likely to be the cheapest, in the long run.

What about the extended warranties, what are your thoughts especially with 2018 Odyssey Elite?

Honda service costs are pretty reasonable. You'd just have to add up expected costs and compare that to the price. I wouldn't ask the person selling the plan for expected costs.

Most extended warranties are very expensive for what they cover. It's a Honda.

Honda Care is also the name of the extended warranty sold by Honda. There are several tiers with various lengths, mileage limits, and deductibles. There are some Honda dealers that sell Honda Care warranties online for much less than most dealers. There is a thread here on Edmunds discussing this. There are varying opinions on the value of these warranties. I believe they are a good buy if you get them at the right price - the one I bought for our new Civic was just under $1K. One or two issues with the complicated electronics on cars today can pay for the warranty. Others prefer to self insure and hope the car is bulletproof. Only you can determine what is right for you.
