Again, people who absolutely had to "rubber neck" going in the opposite direction caused the opposite side of the interstate to be shut down. No real reason for it the traffic tie up in the other direction other than rubber neckers.
I think it happened about 10:30-ish a.m. I came through the other direction about 6:30 p.m. And, sure enough, I saw brake lights go on in front of me because people HAD TO slow down to 25 (65 MPH speed limit on that portion of the interstate) to see what was going on. I wouldn't doubt some accidents happening in the other direction because of the rubber neckers.
Could you define that term? We don't get much snow in the South. Perhaps it is a Northern term?

Rubber necking.....the act in which you drive down the road, but don't keep your eyes on your driving in order to view accidents far, far away from you, that have no bearing whatsoever on the road ahead of you. As you pass, your head snaps 90 or more degrees to the right or to the left (as if your head was attached to a "rubber neck"), usually accompanied by slowing to 40 MPH or even 50-60 MPH slower than the speed limit, while swerving, unaware of how your actions may affect those driving around you.
roadburner....I have a Kuro, but it's the "regular" one (6020). Those Elites were nice. But, Best Buy wasn't discounting them when I was looking. I bought mine at Costco for roughly 50% off MSRP at the time (can't remember the exact amount).
I know you can find some deals at their Magnolia depts if you're diligent in looking. Matter of fact, I've been eyeballing some speakers for the set up in my den. Looking at some DefTechs with one of their little subs.
What graphic guy said.
I'm surprised that Richard didn't know that term since it's not specific to snow. I thought it was pretty universal. For our other posters from the south, are you familiar with that term? I'm just curious.
I've been recommending a new TV to them for years now, but they seem determined to use the TV until it blacks out completely on its own (even though the picture quality is already bad).
The reason I recommended a Blu-ray player is because they are not much more costly than a DVD player, and when they get a new TV it will work better for them in the future.
Component video is capable of amazing 720P HD-picture quality, and probably could do 1080P if copy right protections didn't block that from happening. Still, it's way better than using the old "yellow" single video cable. Also, it's easier (and probably cheaper) to use red and white analog RCA audio cables than Toslink if you don't have surround sound (2-channel/2 speaker system).
By the way, most of the players I saw were too cheap to even have TOSLink optical, and only had coaxial digital audio out, or vice versa (what's so hard about having both Samsung?).
Agreed, both of those digital connections are pointless if you have HDMI.
On my home system I use my OPPO'S 7-channel analog audio outputs.
2 main reasons for that, one, in my own A/B testing, I felt HDMI just wasn't as clean and crisp and natural as ultra high quality analog connections, cables, and D/A converters were capable of. 2nd reason is the OPPO Special Edition has superior D/A chips to my older receiver. When analog audio is done correctly and at high quality, I'm just not convinced digital has matched it. For video, HDMI is fine. For most people, the audio will do too, and the convenience of everything in one good cable is fantastic.
My next TV will be a Plasma if my first bulb ever goes out so that I can install the 2nd one (and when that goes out it'll be new TV time).
That being said, HDMI has had a lot of issues with compatibility between items and components (such as Cox Cable boxes and TV's).
I have heard the term "rubber head" but not "rubber neck". We use the term "rubber head" to define an incompetent person or a person who does stupid things.
Richard
In New England, that's a knucklehead.
the meaning of "rubber head" Use quotations.
This was the meaning given;
1. Rubber Head 8 4
The quality of not knowing what you are doing at work or how to do your job properly.
"The last time they sent out a repair person they sent out a couple of rubber heads"
The meaning of "rubber neck" got this answer;
rub·ber·neck
[ruhb-er-nek] Show IPA Informal.
verb (used without object)
1.
to look about or stare with great curiosity, as by craning the neck or turning the head.
verb (used with object)
2.
to gawk at: The tieup was due to drivers rubbernecking an accident.
I have heard of rubber necking but not rubber head...so once again, I learned something today, not of any importance, but, I did learn something.
Also, if you want to look up the spelling of a word or a definition or antonym etc.
Use google, write definiton, spelling, homonym, antonym etc, and then the word in quotations.
I lost the sale of a dictionary by telling a customer that's all they had to do if they didn't know how to spell a word. I thought, who buys a dictionary anymore?

Today for the most part it is getting the product to the customer for the least amount of money. Nothing is in there that states to get the best value for the dollar for the customer. And the customer doesn't care either as long as they get what they perceive as the biggest and or best while paying the least.
This leads to big box stores getting the cheapest products on the show room. Due to this the products (especially the lower priced ones) are substandard. Also the cut costs by hiring unskilled and unknowlable sales staff who get only the basics of training.
Because of that you either have to know what you are doing and/or go to the specialty shops. You don't have to pay globs of money more, just a little more to have good quality products that are right for you.
Currently I am trying, with little luck, to talk a co-worker out of buying a bicycle from Wally World. I keep telling her that by spending a little more money at a bike shop she can buy a quality bike assembled by a qualified bike mechanic. Not only that but the sales staff are usually cyclists that will guide her to the right type and size bike for her.
But she doesn't see the value in that and will buy the Wally World bike. And thats the problem with many people, they don't see the value in paying more,

Back in the late 50's my parents bought a large Zenith B/W TV (I think it was 19 inches). That TV was still going strong in the late 70's. I think my step mother made him get a new color one when they got married around 1980.

That is a major problem in the USA. Too many people will blindly and dumbly pay $50 for a crap DVD player that'll need replacement every year when they just could have got a good one for maybe 3X more money but will last them far more than 3 times longer.
Going back to bicycles, there is a website (I will try to find it again) where someone bought a bike from Wally World (or some other big box store) and he kept track of all the money he spent on it. Long story short he paid more for the bike and repairing things that broke than he would have paid for a high quality bike and it's maintenece.
2011 Hyundai Sonata, 2014 BMW 428i convertible, 2015 Honda CTX700D
From DVD players, to bikes, to cars, to tires, to whatever.
The problem is some manufacturers try to get away with charging top dollar for bottom quality. So I think some people are scared into getting the cheapest thing from fear. At least if the product sucks they can say "we'll, it was only $x.xx" whereas with the expensive product someone might say, "my so and so is better and I got it for half the cost you did!"
Tires is a good example, some of the cheaper tires rate far better than some of the more expensive ones, but in general the more expensive tires are better with lots of exceptions.
A Kirby Vacuum cleaner doesn't necessarily clean any better than a typical "good" vacuum cleaner, but it does seem to last 10 times longer with fewer problems according to CR. I don't know if it's worth the super high cost though.
Cars seem to follow fairly closely to "pay more, get better or get more" but handbags? Forget it. Same with shoes.
Insurance?
There are just a lot of things where "you get what you pay for" doesn't always apply.
Not sure it is the same for cars as it is with things like bikes or electronics.
Back to bikes for an example, an inexpensive road bike from Wally World will be about 175 or so. A good inexpensive road bike from a bike shop will run you 3 to 4 times as much.
With limited maintenance the $175 bike will, for a regular rider, last a few months and/or a few hundred miles before it starts to fal apart.
With limited maintenance the $600-700 road bike from the local bike shop should last 15 years or more and get 10's of thousands of miles.
Convert that into cars, your least expensive cars should get you at least 10 years and 125K miles with just regular routine mantenance. So to have the same level of increase in quality in cars your BMW 3 seriers should last 125 years or more and get a ten million miles with just tune ups and oil changes. I don't see that happening.
Of course when you breach the $700 or so range with bikes your increase in quality, performance and ride in relation to increases in price drops dramatically. Basically a $2K bike is not twice as good as a $1K bike. I would think that the same holds true with cars.

Don't complain, I checked the temperature in Toronto (back home) and it is currently 3, with a high of 15 for today.
In Tampa everyone complains because the high will only be in the 60s today, 68 to be exact. For me, anything over 60F is a blessing.
At least when they show a weather map down here and they blame Canada for the cold weather they could print what the temperatures are in the main Canadian cities. And, another thing, why don't they say the cold weather originates in Alaska....then sweeps over Canada? Nah, better to blame us poor Canadians.

BTW, if some of you have never heard of OPPO, they are a relatively large Far East firm that makes high end electronics.
We'll have to agree to disagree on the actual sonic benefits of using analog connections vs HDMI. Personally, having been in this hobby for 20 years, I have yet to see/hear differences in the connection types (component + optical vs HDMI). But, some say they can. I'm just not one of them. I've used both.
If nothing else on your RPTV, the bulb(s) have to be pretty dim after 6 years. If you've not seen the difference between a good 1080p picture vs 720p, you probably need a new TV.
That said, I was at CES in Vegas a couple of weeks ago. The upcoming 4K TVs are stunning. But, they're still pricey (and probably will be for the next few years). Plasma is still strong with lots of offerings from Panasonic and Samsung. They also had the best picture. But, although LCDs didn't show the best pictures, they are dropping in price and is the real reason HDTV has been successful. Companies are still pushing 3DTVs, but unless something dramatic happens this year (like another blu ray like Avatar is released), 3D will stay in the theater and only have limited success in the home.
Ditto. To each his own, but my BJC HDMI cables are more than good enough for me. I'm probably going to finally break down and buy an OPPO BD player this year and relagate the Samsung to the basement 5.1 HTS.

We change the bag twice a year.
It was a blistering 7F this morning here just north of Boston. High today expected to be 15F.
Don't expect sympathy from me. We had 1.5 Deg. F. as the low previous night and 5 for last night. Currently at 1 pm it's a smoldering 25 on my storage barn thermometer.
I'll bet you're up 55 or 60. I am envious.

I suggest pricing them, original brand or some replacement aftermarket brands, on Amazon.com and Ebay. I've had great luck at finding reduced pricing for some things that are generally price-fixed in the retail market. Examples are Gillette Fusion razor blades and vacuum cleaner bags for my Hoovers.
As for vacuums, I used Consumer's Report opinion and bought what was 4th best vacuum in their two previous evaluations--a Hoover Widepath. Rated best suction (even picks up cats and dogs) and I bought original for $70 online with pickup at my local Sears. just got another one a couple months ago for son's single apartment for next year at OSU and I believe it was less than $79 at Sears online with local store pickup.
2014 Malibu 2LT, 2015 Cruze 2LT,
Just to clarify, an optical/toslink or coaxial digital cable connection is digital, and the same quality as HDMI (only the former can only do audio and not video and audio together like HDMI).
My preference is to use HDMI for video, and analog (RCA type) connections for multi-channel audio. Yes, it requires one cable for every audio channel (up to 8 these days), but to me, it's worth it. Granted, you'll need high resolution SACD's and DVD-Audio discs to begin to decipher the differences. Blu-Ray uncompressed audio formats seem to be right up there with those "ancient" technologies as well.
If nothing else on your RPTV, the bulb(s) have to be pretty dim after 6 years. If you've not seen the difference between a good 1080p picture vs 720p, you probably need a new TV.
You would think the light would be dim, I thought that as well, but the picture still looks very bright to me. Maybe when I put in the new bulb I'll have an "aha" moment, but I don't think so. It is strange. Maybe I got an exceptional bulb.
Also, the Sony SXRD's were 1080P. Cox Cable HD is 1080i, but my blu-ray takes advantage of every pixel.
I've heard you need at least 50" to appreciate anything over 720P. My TV is 50".
I have my cable box hooked up with component video cables since 720P and 1080i are arguably the same quality, and my OPPO has an HDMI video connection.
Don't expect sympathy from me. We had 1.5 Deg. F. as the low previous night and 5 for last night. Currently at 1 pm it's a smoldering 25 on my storage barn thermometer.

Down side to that is that the grasslands get very dry and prone to fire.

Houses in Europe are a lot smaller too.
btw...our new Bosch dishwasher is absolutely amazing, I can't imagine a dishwasher that could do better. It is just one model up from the bottom and was $535 at Lowes, incl delivery and take away old one. The bags are a little small, but about equal in size to our previous Eureka. I bought a box of 4 bags that came with the extra filters for $18. Miele branded and produced in Germany. I can live with that price. The carbon filter will be a little expensive once a year, but eliminating the pet odor will make that an expense I'll gladly pay.

LOL, that's funny.
Just recently, I tried out Target's generic self-branded shaver and blades since they were so much cheaper, and I felt "Gillette" and others were over charging drastically.
After that experience, I was appalled how horrible the Target stuff was. Didn't someone say generics are often as good as the name brands; well, not even close in this case.
I went from feeling Gillette was overcharging by costing 4X more than the generic stuff, to thinking Target was overcharging by 4X for the "cheap" stuff.
