I’m 57 and ordered a Lunar Mist Base MT on January 27, 2007. The dealer said it would take 6 to 8 weeks. I called him today and he said the car didn’t even start to build which means 6 to 8 weeks from build date. I was wondering if you got your fit yet??? I purchased this for my wife, as our main car is a 2006 Pilot that I tow a boat with. The second car will replace her 86 civic wagon. We are mainly replacing the 21 year old Honda for safety reasons (no air bags, ABS etc). I gave him $500.00 down on January 27, 2007. I paid $14,445.00 plus tax. I haven’t seen the color nor dove the 5 speed but from what I read and hear the color and the 5 speed is great.

Good luck with your new fit!!

    Hey Ya'll,
I've had my Fit since November '06 and totally LOVE it. But, I hardly ever see another Fit on the road. I see all the other makes that are similar to it, but no Fit buddies to wave at.
I'm in Nashville, TN. What's the deal??

    Thanks,
    Suzecruise

According to the NY Times a week or two ago, Honda only sold 26,000 in the US in 2006. So maybe there are 32,000 here now. That's very few Fits across a very large country.
  • suzecruisesuzecruise Member Posts: 23
Did Honda limit the number of them or are they just not selling well?
  • ciara1ciara1 Member Posts: 25
Limited numbers, absolutely. With a waiting time for one averaging a couple months or more, I'd say they're definitely selling well :)

Does anyone know if Honda will be making any changes to the 2008 Fit? I would like to see more options offered (leather, moonroof, power seats, etc.) Any ideas on this?
  • fitrnfitrn Member Posts: 47
I ordered a Black Sport AT Feb 20. It was due in Mar 20 and Im still waiting but new estimated date is no later than April 2. Lets hope it comes in... only 1 Fit located on the lots in RI and it is super suped up and pricey which is why it is still there... Same for 100 miles (I called every dealership that advertised them). Yeesh!!

I am guessing that Honda is still producing a handful of fits for the 07 model year.

I wonder, of those 32000, how many are manual transmission?

    :)

One more thing, replying again to same post:

I would think just about every one of these cars in the country is sold. I cannot imagine there being 6K sitting on lots throughout the US. Did they say that was the case or the 6K was "more on the way"?

    Thanks!

I decided against buying what is an otherwise sound little car. Years ago I made a decision that I would never again buy a car without a factory installed sunroof option, nor would I buy one that did not have disk brakes BOTH front and rear. These decisions were made based on experiences with safety, driveability, and maintenance.

Just curious how the sunroof helps safety, driveability or maintenance. :)
  • user777user777 Member Posts: 3,341
a sunroof provides for "heads up driving"... you know, looking at the stars on a clear night for "dead" reconing one's position. :shades:

but seriously, i can't imagine a scenario where a sunroof would help with roof integrity. if anything, i would imagine it would decrease the overall safety of the vehicle. unless perhaps you had to exit a vehicle which was flooded... but then maybe only if the retraction mechanism was manual, not electric.
  • plektoplekto Member Posts: 3,738
Of course, the sunroof in almost every car these days is so far back because of the ceiling "wart" with the lights/garage remote and such in it that you can't SEE out of the sunroof while driving. Not unless you turn you head sideways.

Mainewoods, it's hard to get everything you want. I really wanted a car with stablity and traction control, and yet I ended up buying the Fit over the Scion xB because it was just more fun to drive, and the cargo area was more useful (I carry around a lot of stuff sometimes). I was just reading about the next xB which seems to address those differences... but no mention yet of price or fuel economy, which will probably be moving the wrong direction since they made the car bigger and more powerful.

When in intermittent mode, the wipers make a click noise (timer/switch). Apparently it is normal. Do you find the same? Any corrective actions?

Purchased 2007 Honda FIT Sport Auto Storm Silver the evening of April 19, 2006 from Sterling McCall Honda in Kingwood (Houston) Texas. Paid MSRP. Traded a 2005 Honda Ody EX which was too big for our needs yet it was a good car with minor problems. The FIT has been PERFECT, racking up nearly 9800 miles over the year. Not much, it's my wives and used mainly for commuting in the local area.

    Best mpg: 41.75
    Worst: 27.6
    Last tank: 33.15 mpg

Even though it's used mainly for local driving we did take it to Atlanta and St. Petersburg. We've also taken it to San Antonio, Austin and Laredo. Not a bad road car, however slightly too small.

Added equipment: Arm rest (a must), tint, bra, cargo net and cover plus rear bumper applique. All purchased from College Hills Honda.

My wife and I both love it. Empty nesters.

Only been back to the dealer once for it's oil change which the first one was free.

I've had quite a few cars over my 60+ years and I have to say the FIT has been one of our best.. and a blast to drive! :)

We have had our LX auto Fit since May 6/06, and have piled on 48,500 kms. I too, adore the car still. Did however, stop going to Honda for servicing. Too pricey. Have had authorized service for codes B1 and 2. Nothing has failed, but the interior is a little delicate. Have some gouges in a few door spots. Maybe we are not delicate enough! Have carried dogs, kids, luggage, ladders, many, many boxes (moving), skis, Home Depot spoils, etc. etc. I have not tracked fuel consumption/mileage for a while. Oh yes, brakes are still good. Next long trip in July (1500 miles). I would only trade this in on a newer Fit, or an Element, if we needed that kind of vehicle. cheers, everyone.

I have a 2006 Honda pilot EXL and purchased a base MT Fit on March 12, 2007 for my wife. Although its my wives car we seem to always use it on trips. It really feels good to get the gas mileage, not only for the money but environmental side of owning an economical vehicle such as the fit. We are having a great time driving it with around 34 MPG 70% hi-way and the rest NYC driving.

My wife was set on getting the base model MT. You definitely get your monies wort in the sport. I installed the keyless entry and mud guards as well as new wheels that the sport come with. The sport doesn’t come in Lunar Mist the color we both liked and now that we own it we like it even better. I sure which I had the cruse control. The after market cruse controls never work right.

My advise to new buyers, buy the sport. It’s $1,320.00 more.

My grandparents' 1997 Civic does this, and has for as long as I can remember. No problem has ever come from it, however.
  • eldainoeldaino Member Posts: 1,618
...thoughts being that offering leather and such defeats the purpose of the econo segment.

I love the fit, but if i were looking for a replacement for my rabbit, i'll have to wait till the newer generation comes out.

Leather and power seats, most likely not. However, the rumor in Japan has it that the next-gen Fit may get an optional glass roof that the JDM Airwave has, which looks like this:

Unfortunately i think that some of those options will not show up due to the fact that the fit is aimed towards those who are price conscious. Moonroof maybe, there is tons of headroom available so yes that is a possiblity. But i do not think leather seats will be and power seats maybe just the driver.

OOOO I like that ! I think I will wait and see what Honda does .

I own a Fit Sport and love it. One this is driving me crazy and that's the carpet. I know it's cheap - that doesn't bother me so much as the fact that it just doesn't seem to fit. Can anyone tell me if they, too, have poorly fitting carpet on the passenger side? The carpet in front of the wheel well isn't attached to anything, and there is a piece of foam on the passenger door trim that keeps the carpet from sitting flush to the well...

Do others have this piece of foam? It feels like it should not be there, and there is nothing like it on the drivers side (where the carpet fits much better).

    Thanks.

A reporter from a large national newspaper is looking to speak to anyone who has purchased a small car in the past couple of months. If you purchased this car as an additional car for the family versus a replacement, please note that as well. I suggest you do what I did with my old truck. Go to a good auto upholstery shop and get them to put in proper carpet. It should only cost about $400 or so for a replacement that's as good as the best cars made, since it is a new car/no cleaning/prep and no new cushions/etc).

What city are you located in?

What a concept! Are you suggesting replacing the entire front and back flooring? Or just a "toss in floor mat" so to speak?

That might be worth it when current one gets run down, but probably not just yet.

Are there certain places that do this that you can direct us to online? (re: where are you at?)
  • plektoplekto Member Posts: 3,738
As odd as it sounds at first, the front and middle(rear cargo area is thicker, evidently) is one big piece and really is worth upgrading to something tough enough to last a decade or more.

The stock "carpet" is more like a covering and will wear thin in a very very short time.

I'm in Los Angeles(know a few very good places here) - but look in any book under auto upholstery and call around. The best ones will cut and make the piece(s) by hand on a nice thick backing. Something like 1/4 inch thick combined, versus 1/16th by the looks of it for stock.

Has anyone had leather seats installed? I've ordered leather and will likely have it installed this week. Just curious if anyone else has done this. I'm going thru Classic Softtrim.

Brittany Spears, is that you? :) Just kidding. Sorry, I couldn't resist cracking on the leather.

Curious, as I have considered a change in the seat covers, does the leather create an issue with the safety of the side airbags? Could it void warranty, risk danger to passengers, and subsequently lower trade in/value of the car?

  • mklein2mklein2 Member Posts: 15
Nope, it doesn't void any warranties. This is the company a lot of dealers use when they offer the leather option.

The leather is patterned to factory specs, and they actually have a recommended color for each vehicle. I'm not going w/the recommended color for my fit, which was black (i have a storm silver). Going with a grey instead.

It's actually a pretty interesting site.

That's exactly why I recommended replacing the carpets as well. Factory interiors are exactly like factory tires, brakes, and so on. If the car isn't a top-trim/luxury model, it's built to a price and quite often the factory choices stink compared to aftermarket.

And it's not pleather or textured man-made leather(which even makes its way into Mercedes, BMW, Audi, Cadillac, and other high end cars the cost-cutting is so pervasive.

Real leather seats will last twenty years or more, and feel great in the winter and summer. Plus, small great. If they have an option for higher-grade leather, spend the extra hundred or so for it - you want it to be full grain/thickness, which is about double what typical cheap leather in cars is.
  • mklein2mklein2 Member Posts: 15
Yeah, this leather is top quality. My friends got it in their car, and the moment I sat in it, I was sold. It really feels amazing.

Plus even though I drive my dogs around in the cargo area, their hair still manages to float about, and clean-up with leather is so nice.

    Honda Mid-Year CEO Speech Summary
  • stevemr1stevemr1 Member Posts: 15
I am seriously considering purchasing a Fit but I am skeptical about how it does in snow. The ground clearance doesn't appear to be adequate to drive in moderate snow. I live in northern Minnesota and will frequently encounter poor winter conditions. If anyone has much experience with the Fit in poor winter driving conditions, please do tell. Thanks in advance.
  • jacksan1jacksan1 Member Posts: 504
I live in Minnesota too, though not in your area (I'm in the Twin Cities). Our Fit was just fine this past winter. We do have a Subaru Forester in case of severe conditions, but the Subie was hardly ever activated this last time around. In northern Minnesota, I can see your worries, however.

We did have a couple of situations last winter where we had 10 inches or snow came down overnight, and backstreets were unplowed in the morning. Although I am not the primary driver of the Fit (my wife is), she went out and said nothing about having had trouble. Just my two cents' worth.
  • fitman548fitman548 Member Posts: 172
do you have sport or not? I think the clearance on a sport would be a problem.
  • tguntgun Member Posts: 20
I too live in the Twin Cities and have a Blaze Orange Metallic (BOM) FIT Sport 5 speed manual. No problems in the snow... even the late March-early April 10" with drifts.

Reminds me of how my 84 Accord handled in the snow... normally pretty sure-footed.
  • jacksan1jacksan1 Member Posts: 504
do you have sport or not? I think the clearance on a sport would be a problem.

    We do have a Sport.
  • stevemr1stevemr1 Member Posts: 15
Thanks for your replies on the Fit's winter weather capabilities. After doing more research,I noticed that "Consumer Reports" listed the Fit Sport as having 1/2" more ground clearance than the Fit base model. This is contrary to first impressions, but is probably due to the 15" wheels on the sport vs the 14" wheels on the base model. That makes me wonder if adding the optional 16" wheels would be even a better choice for deep snow.
  • stevemr1stevemr1 Member Posts: 15
Consumer Reports lists the Sport as having 5" of ground clearance with the base at 4 1/2". This is contrary to appearance but is probably due to the 15" wheels on the Sport while the base model has 14" wheels. Doesn't seem like alot of clearance, but all the other cars in this test had similar ground clearance. This comes from the Dec 06 issue.
  • bobw3bobw3 Member Posts: 2,989
It also depends on where the clearance is measured. The base may have 4 1/2 at the center of the car, but the 5" on the Sport right at the nose can affect driving through the snow more. So even though the lowest point of the Base is lower, it may drive through the snow better without the front snowplow.

Much as I would like to see a small diesel motor in a Fit, I didn't see anything in the linked speech summary that would lead me to that conclusion. What am I missing?

Hey folks, some of you may recognize me from the Subaru threads, or more recently the Sienna ones.

Any how, mom's on a fixed income so my brother and I just chipped in to help her get a brand new Fit. :shades:

She's actually in Recife, Brazil. They build Fits there, in Brazil that is.

So far all I know is she got the automatic. My brother promised to take pics this weekend. I'll probably call her tonight to make sure she's happy with it.

Any how, I figured I'd subscribe to follow what goes on in the Fit World now that I've paid for one. :D
