2000 Avalon parking lights are turning on by themselves and draining the battery

My wife drives a 2000 Avalon XLS and the parking lights are turning themselves on and draining the battery. I just heard about this today. She called me today and told me the lights were on in the parking lot at work. I drove there, unlocked the car, turned the ignition on (did not start the car) and then turned it off and the lights went out. I watched the car for 15 minutes and they did not turn on. I then started the car, then shut it off. At the end of her shift, she called me and told me the lights were on and she needed a jump. I took care of that and started the car. She has a remote starter for the car, and recently after a jump (probably the parking lights) it stopped working. I disconnected the negative battery terminal for 15 minutes. After reconnecting, the remote worked, everything seemed to fine. Then this thing with the parking lights started. I am wondering what is causing this to happen?

You might have a sticking relay in the relay box. You'd need a wiring diagram to see if this is, in fact, a possible cause for your problem. Might be a headlight relay, or the daytime running lights relay (if you have that), or even the alarm system.
