While the pics in that last post were great, I had to take it down because of oversized images.
Please remember to limit the width of images youo add to your post to no more than 500 pixels. Larger images push the right margin of the message area under the right side videos and create some problems.
So if you have an image that HAS to be seen full sized to be appreciated, simply post the URL to the image. That way, other users can still view the image in the new browser window that it will open in, and we avoid the margin issue.
'97 Mazda Miata M Editon in Green - To tinker with (since there is an endless supply of aftermarket parts for these guys) and to do a little bit of SCCA racing in.
'92 Mustang LX, 5.0, convertible - Always liked these for some reason - and like the Miata, tons of aftermarket possibilities.
2000 Acura NSX - Well balanced machine, and pretty rare to see on the street.
'06 Toyota Tacoma 4x4 TRD crew cab - To tow the boat and for Home Improvement runs.
'07 Lexus ES350 - For some reason, I really like these. My "out on the town" car.
The leftover $ would be used to buy the boat that the Tacoma would tow, and for the aftermarket accessories.
Buick Lucerne CXS (daily driver) Cadillac DTS Sport (night on the town car) Cadillac CTS-V (for girlfriend) Cadillac XLR-V (sports car) Dodge Ram (for Home Depot)
Have to set aside a good amount for insurance. I'd keep my 1989 Cadillac Brougham, sell the '88 Park Ave, and use my current Seville STS as my beater car.
a true 4-door hardtop, or is there a slim B-pillar in there? Sharp looking car.
It's interesting how the Japanese seemed to embrace the hardtop look long after the domestics dropped it. And IIRC, the only small 4-door hardtop that the domestics ever made was the Corvair.
Yeah, Nissan hit everything just right on the R32. About the only thing I can complain about is the weight of the RB block. 200+ hp available in an RWD car the size of a Cobalt makes for a lot of fun.
Is that 4-door Skyline a true 4-door hardtop, or is there a slim B-pillar in there? Sharp looking car.
It has an internal B-pillar, but the frameless windows do a nice job of hiding it.
I had a friend who owned a Red 97' BMW M3 Sedan and it was bad to the bone. Now they almost doubled the power and my god this would be a really fun car to own. I will probably never be able to afford one but if I had $500K to blow on cars this one right now would get a close look.
I guess I will have to see where this one ranks once the 09' CTS-V arrives which might be the fastest production sedan ever made. :surprise:
...and have a ball! I was just at the Fall Carlisle and I saw two that would make my list - a gorgeous gold 1972 Cadillac Coupe DeVille and a really nice silver 1966 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham.
The regular factory ones wouldn't since they were hobbled to give some semblance of honoring the horsepower limitations of the time, but I think the Autech R33 could run the full boost for 450-500hp.
Unfortunately, $500k isn't quite enough to retire on, these days. I'm hoping that the 529 accounts I've funded in lieu of a $500k garage will lead at least one of my daughters to becoming a vascular surgeon and supporting us in our old age.
...a lot of guys who save that kind of money only make their widows very happy in their golden years. This one dude just retired with a HUGE nest egg and died two months later. Usually, it's the guys who retire dead broke who live forever for some reason.
My kid's school, or some other worthy cause, would get a fleet of hybrids and electric cars. Maybe even pay CalCars to convert some Priuses to PHEV for me.
Not one of mine actually he was one of my co-workers clients.
And yes they think the rapid drop in activity from running a successful business for 30 plus years to having nothing to do might have had something to do with the heart attack.
Just to piss off larsb: 1970 Chevelle SS454 LS6 1970 Hemi Cuda 1969 Mustang Boss 429 1964 GTO 1970 GTO Judge Ram Air IV These cars drip more unburnt gas out their tail pipes than a hydrogen car leaks out water Oh wait, did you say $500,000 or $5,000,000?
And yes they think the rapid drop in activity from running a successful business for 30 plus years to having nothing to do might have had something to do with the heart attack.
I have three friends/associated off the top of my head that could have easily retired, but refused to do so. One started and sold a credit card company to Wachovia, personally pocketing $400 million. He now runs his own venture capital company. Another sold a technology company and pocketed north of $100 million. He is now acquiring turnaround companies and investing in China. Another runs a hedge fund and is in the top 200 on the Forbes 400 list with a personal net worth rapidly approaching $2 billion. He claims his job isn't work, it's fun.
They all happen to be in their 40's, but even if they were in their 60's 70's or 80's they wouldn't be letting their brain rot by not doing something interesting and productive.
I'd like to think if I were in their position, I'd have the same attitude. Heck, now that I'm 50, I'd be happy just to be their age.
To me, retirement does not mean not working, it means not HAVING to work. Even if your activities don't change, it can mean a huge change in attitude about them, and may even affect one's choice of vehicle.
Yeah, as long as we coordinate first and don't accidentally start bidding against each other on eBay or something!
For some reason, I'm starting to get a taste for the "traditional-sized" (non-Dart) '60 Dodges. Last week I took my Intrepid to a new mechanic, recommended by my buddy with the two Mark V's. He must have close to a dozen of them scattered around his shop, in various states of repair.
This new mechanic is also really getting after me to get my '57 DeSoto roadworthy again. So I might just get it up to Carlisle yet!
Wow! I would really love to see that 1957 DeSoto and especially to get to ride in it! I also like the 1960 Dodge and it wasn't that long ago you could get one cheap! I remember a guy who bought a nice minty green 1960 Dodge Dart Seneca for a measly $1,000 back in the mid 1980s.
Too many idiots think it is Barrett-Jackson out there and price their cars accordingly. I get a monthly magazine from the Cadillac-LaSalle club and they have cars for sale in the back of the magazine for far more reasonable prices than we saw at Hershey.
Has just watching Godfather II the other night and Michael Corleone is riding in the back of a 1958 Imperial limousine by Ghia. Something like that would be on my short list if I had $500K to blow on cars!
retirement does not mean not working, it means not HAVING to work.
That is me. I love not having to go to work. I work harder now than before I retired. I also have lost 30 pounds of un-needed mid section.
Now to the car. I guess it would have to be a Bugatti Veyron, just to have the quickest car from the stoplights. Can you even buy one for half a million?

I would not mind a spectrum of vehicles to cover the whims and needs and wants of everyday life.
I would even choose a Prius....
The Fit by Honda is nice.

Seriously, that's a decade's worth of gas, maybe half, but still.
And mulch is heavy, I think the Touareg would be the better choice for that job.

Ummmm, for my $500k, I want a nice shiny new BMW M3 GTR, a pit crew, and about $20k worth of tickets to drive the Nurburging......
The balance of the $500k can then go to my next of kin... :surprise:
I would consider paving a short go-kart course in my back yard, and then getting half a dozen go-karts. :shades:
