  • Yes, that insurance is a good idea for many people.

BTW, the Sub and Suz are not directly comparable, although some people might cross-shop them of course. The Subie is a bigger vehicle and it gets less mpg. The SX4 is more the size of a VW Golf, but still offers AWD and decent ground cleaarance.

Resale is a factor for people who trade every three or four years, but means less if you keep your vehicle longer. Furthermore, the SX4 has proven to be a very good seller for Suzuki, selling well without a lot of incentives. That alone will prop up resale a bit.

Not worried about GAP on my Subaru, but I can understand having it on brands like Mitsubishi and Suzuki.

We'll see how the SX4 does. Suzuki as a brand is doing better. I wish they'd bring the Swift over. That is a nice car. The Fiat diesel would be nice too.

FWD vehicles, and/or AWD vehicles that are primarily FWD, seem to be going through an evolutionary period insofar as shift "schedules"/patterns are concerned with automatic transmissions.

I think you will gladly acknowledge that it's a really BAD idea, patently UNSAFE, to downshift a manual transmission to attain a significant level of engine compression braking when you KNOW, are aware, that the roadbed traction is LOW. It is also now being widely acknowledged that even a not significant level of engine compression braking can potentially interfere with the operation of your ABS as you slow to a final stop on these adverse, slippery, roadbed surfaces.

Since late in the last century many FWD automatic transaxles have been (re)designed to upshift upon a full lift throttle event in order to alleviate instances of loss of directional control or ABS interference. In at least one instance this technique is only used if the OAT is very near or below freezing.

    Good idea, DAMN good idea.

    But.

If you should happen to need to quickly accelerate immediately after a full lift throttle event you may find yourself dead in the water for 1-2 seconds until enough ATF pressure/flow is built up to support a second gear shift in quick succession.

Most "legacy" gear type ATF pumps do not have enough capacity with the engine at idle RPM, to support a second gear change in quick succession to the previous one.

Does the SX4 use the evolutionary technique?

    Safer wintertime driving if true.

Does its ATF pump have sufficient capacity?

If not expect 1-2 second DBW "enforced" sequential downshift delays or early transaxle failures.

Have your sister-in-law buy a "stick" and teach her how to drive a FWD "stick" safely if she doesn't already know.

Stick is my first choice for her, expecially since it typically saves $800 to $1100. However the time I tried to teach her she got so nervous she jsut stopped at a light, got out, and had me drive the rest of the way:-).

I apprecaite the insights on the Suzuki from all. Now it's up to her!

Scroll down to the entry from Tim McCabe

He sold me one for $34, and it works great! The back of the dash is just one big space. I can route the cable from the back of the radio through the back of the glove compartment and into the glove compartment. I can shut the glove compartment on the cable when I have my iPod out. Otherwise I hide the iPod there when not in use. No cables visible anywhere that way.

It was a little tricky getting it plugged into the back of the radio. You have to be very gentle with the plastic molding when removing it or else you'll break something.

My check engine light just came on the other day. The car is running great and I only have 4400 miles on it. Just wondering if anyone else is having the same problem.

On July 17th I traded my 2003 Suzuki Aerio in for a new bright red, stick shift, Suzuki SX 4. I have owned them all - Olds, Ford, Honda <--horrible car, Pontiac, AMC, Chevy. Hands down - the Suzuki will be the only car company for me.

In 4 years I put a new battery in my Aerio and that's it! I bought that car used and Suzuki still repaired the hatch and brakes for me FREE of charge. Suzuki stands behind every car they make. No other car company I have ever encountered has ever stood behind their product like Suzuki did.

When I went car shopping, the Suzuki dealer was my first stop. I knew I wanted another one. The Sx 4 is great! Major fun to drive and has more features than I expected. The keyless entry is wonderful.

I tell everyone - once you own a Suzuki you won't want any other car. All the American car companies make cookie cutter cars - all the same! Suzuki is an original.
    I love my SX 4. :)

what was it about your Honda that you hated so much? I mean, Honda's are praised by so many and to me they are the dullest, plainest looking cars around. They look like they were designed by their kids on their etch-a-sketches. I won't buy a car that looks like an appliance and Honda fits that mold to a tee.

I agree, Suzuki's SX4 is a great looking car. I think that Suzuki is a fine choice because they are all about making great small cars. What was it about your Honda though?

I had a little under 1,000 miles when mine first came on... they told me that it could be where the gas lid needs to be tighter, but i knew it wasnt that so i changed gas stations because of water in the gas... its came on 3 times since. this past week it came on right as i was pulling out of the car lot, and they hooked it up and the machine read error with the oxygen sensor. It hasn't came on again... I'm going to have some sensors changed if it keeps happening. almost 20,000 miles on my baby lol

Suzuki has issued a TSB for early models regarding the Check Engine Light coming on. Mine has done it twice, and both times the code had to do with "Control Module Performance." This last time, I took it in and they reprogrammed the engine control unit. I haven't had the problem since.

My tire light will not go off even with correct air pressure non punctured tires. My check engine light goes on and off and nothing wrong! Is this a mileage trick to get me to the dealer. The dealers suck and rip me off.

Did you check the spare (assuming the spare in your SX4 has a monitor)?

I drive a 2007 SX4 and want to disable the audible safety belt alarms that go off when the key is in the ignition and the and the safety belt is not buckled - same for the passenger side. I checked the manual, but it did not list the specific fuse that connects to the alarms.

Does anyone have any ideas on how I can disable these alarms?
