it could. I think it is just a bandaid though, trying to overcome a design flaw. Kinda like the Boeing Max issue. Software can only do so much compared to fixing the root cause.
It is beginning to appear that one of the biggest design flaws was that Boeing didn't adequately inform pilot's of the changes, as well as the lack of a back-up sensor input as a secondary.
it was still a case of trying to engineer a band-aid to fix a fundamental design flaw. Instead of eliminating the root cause. They just needed a better bandaid, which always have some consequences. For the Honda engine, must do something to have it hotter quicker, sifting differently, etc. At least must impact MPG, otherwise unlikely they engineered it that way to start with.
Sad how Honda seems to be going backwards from its engineering and quality reputation just a few years back. The Odyssey now has a poor reliability rating in CR. The CRV has this engine issue. I don't know, did they put a US Ivy League MBA in charge or something? Toyota made that error a few years back, but the family quickly stepped back in.
