Fuel Pump Running when car is off

Went into garage 3 hours after my wife gets home in her 2018 Forester. Hear a low level motor noise coming from the rear of the vehicle. Called dealer the next morning and the service writer tells me "Yea, it's the fuel pump running, they do that sometimes" I will never claim to be a mechanic, but I believe this can't be good for the pump and this should not be running. Anyone experienced this or know what is going on? Any help would be appreciated.
