Ryan, Better question why your new truck, that you ordered and have not yet seen in person and is still at the dealership, already has 80 miles on it. Surely the dealer did not drive it nearly that much just to get the rails and bedliner installed. Maybe they drove it from the GM factory in Ft. Wayne to the dealership! That could have saved some days on the delivery time also. Maybe it was driven from one dealer to your dealer. Maybe the salesperson likes it so much that he wanted to drive it home with him a few times. Maybe he took it on a short fishing trip. Maybe the service department needed to drive it to pick up parts!!!!!!!!!!!!! Guess it is still their truck to use as they like until you get the title to it. Just thought I would give you more things to think about. Bob.

Oh, I forgot to add that others just may be out driving your truck to see if they want to buy one also!!!! There are so many other possibilities. But, I know you are not the least bit concerned. When it has thousands of miles on it, you probably will not even think about those first 80 miles driven by some unknown hotrodder!!!!!!!! Good Luck. As you know mine was built on April 16 and I am still waiting to find out when it will arrive at the dealership. Hopefully later this week and if not then hopefully next week. Plan to pick it up immediately as soon as it is cleaned and ready, if not the same day of delivery, then the very next day. Bob

Thanks. I read good things on the DC280. I like the floppy on the Sony tho. I understand USB is a very good feature? Any others?

what plant was your truck built at?
i don't know of any of the plants that build on
Sunday (4/16)? or is this another one of your
    oversights?

RYAN, don't worry about test drives. if that has
happened and i'm sure it has'nt, there would have
been someone along to make sure it was'nt hot
rodded. these few miles are probably delivery
miles by your salesman or they're making sure the
truck is a'ok for you. BOB's getting one of the
new 4 handle 4drs. so he's just jealous that
    you're getting one that's perf.

Was reading about mileage on test drives.

In owners manual it talks about break in
    periods, starting, stopping.

Well when I've test drove models with salesman
    its pedal to the floor.

    example

    Before purchased my BMW

Tested a 1999 Corvette, salesman got the
keys to a 24mile model we hit interstate
35 following just a few feet from cars, changing
lanes, once on a secondary road took a Railroad
track at 110, than was upset while i was driving
that didn't go over 80. If I would have decided
on a vette it wasn't going to be that one.

The BMW salesman had me drive from dealership
but still did full thottle accelerations, quick
stops and drove some narrow twisting roads. I
brought the car with 30 miles after our ride
so it must have been on one before.

Family just brought a Lincoln LS V-8, Same
procedure saleman hit the interstate full
thottle to 80 and couple of full thottle
lane changes and quick exit to show braking.
So no telling about the 80 mile on Ryans truck

My ordered Silverado had 2 miles so pretty
sure no test drive except mile unless hot
rodded off transport. I'm still thinking
Vette if decide to trade BMW but going to
have talk with dealer about no driving
till I pick up or deal off.

Some dealers rode with me, others let me take a vehicle out alone. I doubt that most dealers would allow test drives in a vehicle which was already sold.
  • redsilveradoredsilverado Member Posts: 1,000
goofiest story i've heard yet. 'bout what you'd
expect to hear from a BMW owner anyways.

oh yeah in case you can't read ryan's getting a
truck not a vette, and surely not a BMW( or
overpriced volkswagon as we call 'em out here in
    CA) either.

    Kyle,

Sorry I haven't responded sooner. Taxes.

The rattle I was referring to was my intermediate shaft.
    Old No. 26049343
    New No. 26083324-F
I also only heard it for a while. Eventually I began to feel it as well. Through the steering column up to the wheel.

Never did/have experienced the binding you describe.
Do hear the "rubbing" when coming into the driveway. Always assumed it was the tires. BFG 285 All Terrain.
I guess I should look closer.

When I installed the add-a-leaf I used a generous amount of grease and added a spring clamp.
    So far no chirps.

I do experience a "roar" when in 4WH. Where did you get the double cardan/mfg? I think I need to invest in one. Don't want premature damage to diff, cv, transfer etc.

I feel the Lift was worth the time and expense.

    My truck looks/handles great.

    I'll keep you posted.
    Thanks,
    Jeff

Sorry it has taken so long to get back. I been out of the office traveling. The coupon was for Cartparts.com as stated by someone else, not Edelbrock. Look at page 97 of the May 2000 issue. Carparts quoted me a price of $58.91 per shock before the discount via their live chat line. After shipping they were just under $45 apiece. They came in yesterday and are sitting in my garage wait for me to put them on. I also got a response yesterday to an email inquiry I sent to Carparts before I actuall ordered via their chat line. This email quoted me a price of $74.22 per shock. Not sure what is up with the increased price. I checked with my credit card company and the charge was the lower of the two. The $74 shocks did have a different SKU # from what I ordered (which was from the Edelbrock web page). I hope to get that clarifed before I install them.

I wish I had them installed before this past weekend. I hauled two 1400-1500# loads of landscape bricks. The solid smooth ride shocks definitely don't work well with this kind of load. I still had about 2-3 inches between the quarter panel and the top of the rear tire. Never bottomed out, but I did take it easy.

DUDE CHILL. Yes the drive to get the accessories on it was from angola to fort wayne and that is about 40 mls one way. The salesman did take the truck for me i didnt want rhino coming and taking it. He is the only one who has driven it. Only person who has touched the truck is the prep guy (took off truck) and my salesman. Its in a bldg waiting for me to pick it up now. Damn BOB why are you so scared. No one has been able to even look at it (other customers). Unlike some of you i am good friends with my salesman. It sounds wierd but we are. he is only a yr older than me and is in college. After driving my truck he is now hinking of buying one. Chill Bob i know exactly where each and every one of those mls that is on it came from.

    Meredith,
My gray under rail liner was just $359 at Fast Set with a discount. You can go to their shop and see a sample. I checked out both B & H and Fast Set and the B & H liner is just ugly, I wouldn't go with B & H just to save a few bucks. They do have to rough the paint by sanding to get good adhesion of the liner to the bed. As for over vs. under, I agree that having an above rail liner stick outside of the topper sounds strange. Campers have been mounted on truck beds for years w/o the benefit of a liner (i.e. camper tape).

Pick-up Heaven does handle both Husky and CatchAll floor mats, but compare prices and make sure that you get the right ones for the new style truck. I'll have to re-check that web site I gave you.

    Kevin,
The cover folds in 4 sections, it does not slide. Each section weighs about 11lbs, so it is light to handle. This is the 2nd truck that I have put this type of cover on. I used the other one for many years and was very satisfied with it. Cost was about $560 and I ordered it from a distributor in Mich. Go to www.foldacover.com and contact them for the name/number of the distributor.

Planet Ft. Wayne. April 13 instead of the April 16 typo. What a riot! As far as I know mine will not have rear outside door handles. But if I had a choice, I think I would elect to take them. More convenience and would be more up-to-date for future model years. Bob

Bedliners - Haven't had a chance to call Fast Set. I'm going to stop but both B&H and Fast Set in a while and check them both out. Hopefully, B&H will have an example up too so I can see what I would be getting.

before I bought my truck, I test drove several. everytime except once the salesman went with me. that one time nobody was with me, I found out exactly what the truck could and could not do. I hammered that thing. WOT starts, slammed on brakes, etc... just drove the @#$% out of it. I guess I got it out of my system. I know what the truck can do and have not had the desire to do it in mine.

The rubbing noise is definately not the tires rubbing. It sounds more like in is in the driver's side cv axle. also the rattle sounds like it is comming from the front cv axle. the intermidate steering shaft was replaced, maybe it needs to be replaced again. truck goes in on friday to the dealer that replaced the shaft. soon it will be figured out.

the chip sounds for sure like it coming from the rear leafs. the shop that installed the kit said that is where it is comming from. I also have spring clamps on, it is just annoying!!

    thanks

Thanks for the info. Just one more question. Can the whole thing be removed easily? Or does it just all fold towards the front? Also, do you have to screw brackets to the bed/tailgate for the locks?

    Kevin
  • ran3ran3 Member Posts: 13
my vette ride but its the truth. RR tracks
weren't high like some but enough to get a
little airborne. What concerned more were
the cross roads just past, if soccer mom
came out from subdivisions we would have been history. Those 5.7's have some go. My v-8
reg short bed is up there before realize it.
From post on the other "board" some people really drive maybe not the smartest but they do test the
cars designs. Not my BMW because don't want the
repair bill. Now got to go earn $$$ for my toys.
  • rdve80rdve80 Member Posts: 139
    Kevin,
The rear 3 panels fold forward or the front panel folds back. And there are both front and rear locks. You do have to pop-rivet stainless steel brackets to the tailgate and front of bed for the locks. Removal is very easy, other than the locks, there is just one clamp on each side rail. And since the cover folds and snaps into a 44 lb panel that is 20 inch x 60 inch x 3.5 inch in size, it is easy to handle by one person.

The card type are better than the floppy type as the floppy type don't have high enough resolution for better pics.
A 1536 x 1024 or higher with a $400 printer...can replace your 35MM.....I have done it. I print 8x10's that are awesome. Soem cameras now days are even way higher than that res...

USB is a MUST for large size pics....unless you like waiting?

    Ryan,

I had 4 miles on my truck when it came.
If you think you know how it was driven?...then that's cool...but I wonder about those guys that drive them?....might have beat the crap out of it?

Nah i had em put on. Only think i gotta put on is the bug deflector and mud flaps. Saves time so i can go out and show all my friends my new turck (they are all jealous). My truck also had 4 mls when it came in. Guys? it was one guy and i felt comfortable letting him take it for me. He actually couldnt go over 55 (haha im glad) cause of construction and traffic. So what if he did. Nowadays you cant stay under 55 its a safety hazard. Im sure when i drive it home ill be around 70mph.

Tim we have a digital camara here at work the floppy kinda and it takes great pics. Me and my boss just took a few pics of this old pump we are working on and its like i am standing right next to it. Saves me from going every 5 min and walking about a half mile just to look at the thing to see what i need to do to plan for its removal. Might have to get me one soon

    Ryan

Oh wait cant i owe $29000 well maybe in the distant future if they dont start making some new kinda camara i will get one

I just reprogrammed my 2000 5.3L with the HPPIII that finally came. It has been ordered since January. Reprogrammed for larger tire size, power tuned for 87 octane, and increased shift firmness. The truck now registers the proper speed and mileage, does not idle rough, has distinct shifts (I like also easier on the tranny), and may have a little more uhmf? Took about 15 min to do.

So far, no indication of any problems with the Airaid or the Granatelli MAF.

    good luck
    Kyle

P.S. When and if gas prices ever go down, I will reprogram for 92 octane!

obyone, There is no desire to follow you. No time for Mustangs. There is sufficient good info. and laughs on Silverado for the time that I can give to it. Have fun with the vetteeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.

Ryan, No disrespect to your area of the country. In fact I think it is a nice area. I spent some time and the night in Ft. Wayne last August on our way back from Canada. I referred to it as Planet Ft. Wayne because Red asked me which planet my truck was built. Sounds like you are getting closer to protecting your truck. The dealer says mine will be here late this week or next week. I think I will drop by there tomorrow and ask a couple of questions on possible rebates. Bob

I hope my HPP is on the door step when I get home as well then. Question - what size tires do you have on your truck and what did you put in for size. From what I've read you enter the size in inches with the HPP. I have 285/75R16's. They calculate to 32.8" - but from several posts on another forum most chose to enter 32" (never got an answer as to why). I guess if it can't be exact you have to choose, but I figured that being of 2/10 vs 8/10 was better. My only guess is most would rather have the odometer show a few under actual mileage vs a few over. What was your take on it?

Anyone with the 5.3l getting any detonation with the onset of the warm weather?

I don't get it all the time. Seems like if their is a cool breeze (inlet air temp cooler), I don't get it.

I ordered some NGK TR6 plugs (copper core and one range colder firing) to see if it reduces my cylinder temps any. Can't hurt. If they don't run well, I will just go back to the regular heat range. $20 possible fix. Anyone with a 5.3l got any comments on this?

It seems that you are satisfied with the results from the HPIII unit. Did you change the top speed limiter also? I guess it's order time "again".

Funny thing happened the last time my truck was in at the dealer. They had updated my PCM with the tech II for the trans growl...and it actually got worse. Still can't figure that one...

Finally got some pics this last weekend of the new truck. I couldn't be happier so far. Only 400 miles, but none of the common problems so far, I hope they have them all resolved by now. Yes, I know its sitting on concrete, will get if off in the dirt and mud in a month or so. There is not a single scratch of any kind on it - trying to keep it that way, but after all it is just a truck - I don't mind using it.
